We study, for a basis of Hölderian compactly supported wavelets, the boundedness and convergence of the associated projectors $P_j$ on the space $L^p(dμ)$ for some p in ]1,∞[ and some nonnegative Borel measure μ on ℝ. We show that the convergence properties are related to the $A_p$ criterion of Muckenhoupt.

Let $M_{m,n}$ be the space of all complex m × n matrices. The generalized unit disc in $M_{m,n}$ is $R_{m,n} = {Z ∈ M_{m,n}: I^{(m)} - ZZ^\ast \text{ is positive definite} }$. Here $I^{(m)} ∈ M_{m,m}$ is the unit matrix. If 1 ≤ p < ∞ and α > -1, then $L_{α}^{p}(R_{m,n})$ is defined to be the space $L^p{R_{m,n}; [det(I^{(m)} - ZZ^\ast)]^α dμ_{m,n}(Z)}$, where $μ_{m,n}$ is the Lebesgue measure in $M_{m,n}$, and $H_α^p(R_{m,n}) ⊂ L_{α}^{p}(R_{m,n})$ is the subspace of holomorphic functions. In [8,9] M. M. Djrbashian and A. H. Karapetyan proved that, if $Reβ > (α+1)//p -1$ (for 1 < p < ∞) and Re β ≥ α (for p = 1), then $f(\mathcal{Z})= T_{m,n}^{β}(f)(\mathcal{Z}), \mathcal{Z} ∈ R_{m,n},$ where $T_{m,n}^{β}$ is the integral operator defined by (0.13)-(0.14). In the present paper, given 1 ≤ p < ∞, we find conditions on α and β for $T_{m,n}^{β}$ to be a bounded projection of $L_α^p(R_{m,n})$ onto $H_α^p(R_{m,n})$. Some applications of this result are given.

There are given necessary and sufficient conditions on a measure dμ(x)=w(x)dx under which the key estimates for the distribution and rearrangement of the maximal function due to Riesz, Wiener, Herz and Stein are valid. As a consequence, we obtain the equivalence of the Riesz and Wiener inequalities which seems to be new even for the Lebesgue measure. Our main tools are estimates of the distribution of the averaging function f** and a modified version of the Calderón-Zygmund decomposition. Analogous methods allow us to obtain K-functional formulas in terms of the maximal function for couples of weighted $L_p$-spaces.

We study the generation of analytic semigroups in the L² topology by second order elliptic operators in divergence form, that may degenerate at the boundary of the space domain. Our results, that hold in two space dimensions, guarantee that the solutions of the corresponding evolution problems support integration by parts. So, this paper provides the basis for deriving Carleman type estimates for degenerate parabolic operators.

This paper deals with infinite horizon optimal control problems, which are formulated in weighted Sobolev spaces ... [wzór] and weighted Lp-spaces ... [wzór]. We ask for the consequences of the interpretation of the integral within the objective as a Lebesgue or an improper Riemann integral. In order to justify the use of both types of integrals, various applications of infinite horizon problems are presented. We provide examples showing that lower semicontinuity may fail for objectives involving Lebesgue as well as improper Riemann integrals. Further we prove a lower semicontinuity theorem for an objective with Lebesgue integral under more restrictive growth conditions on the integrand.

For a wide class of weights we find the approximative point spectrum and the essential spectrum of the pointwise multiplication operator $M_φ$, $M_φ(f)=φf$, on the weighted Banach spaces of analytic functions on the disc with the sup-norm. Thus we characterize when $M'_φ$ is Fredholm or is an into isomorphism. We also study cyclic phenomena for the adjoint map $M'_φ$.

Let Φ be an N-function such that both Φ and its complementary N-function satisfy $Δ_2$. We characterize the pairs of positive functions (u,ω) such that the weak type inequality $u({x ∈ ℝ | M_{g}^{+}⨍(x) > λ}) ≤ C/(Φ(λ)) \int_ℝ Φ(|⨍|)ω$ holds for every ⨍ in the Orlicz space $L_Φ(ω)$. We also characterize the positive functions ω such that the integral inequality $\int_ℝ Φ(|M_{g}^{+}⨍|)ω ≤ \int_ℝ Φ(|⨍|)ω$ holds for every $⨍ ∈ L_Φ(ω)$. Our results include some already obtained for functions in $L^p$ and yield as consequences one-dimensional theorems due to Gallardo and Kerman-Torchinsky.

In this paper we are concerned with the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution for the weighted p-Laplacian. The purpose of this paper is to discuss in some depth the problem of solvability of Dirichlet problem, therefore all proofs are contained in some detail. The main result of the work is the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution for the Dirichlet problem provided that the weights are bounded. Furthermore, under this assumption the solution belongs to the Sobolev space $W₀^{1,p}(Ω)$.
