Artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie oryginalnego typu biżuterii, jakim jest dewizka, będąca w przeszłości niezwykłym świadectwem ludzkich emocji, wyrażanych w nich za pośrednictwem symboli i znaków ujętych w kunsztowną artystyczną formę. Podstawę rozważań stanowi analiza wybranych wzorów zabytkowych dewizek z kolekcji muzealnych oraz opracowań z zakresu dziejów biżuterii, w szczególności tzw. biżuterii „mówiącej” i jej symboliki. Mając na uwadze, że temat dewizek nie został jeszcze dogłębnie zbadany, nie posiada opracowania w polskiej literaturze naukowej i dopiero rozpoczynają się badania w zakresie funkcji, typologii, materiałoznawstwa, zdobnictwa oraz kwestii znaczenia kulturowego i społecznego tej zapomnianej biżuterii, artykuł jest próbą wyznaczenia kierunków badań w zakresie znaczeń symbolicznych i związków emocjonalnych tych przedmiotów z ich właścicielami. W toku analizy wybranych przykładów została podjęta próba identyfikacji i wyszczególnienia dominujących wzorów symboli, m.in. miłosnych, charakterystycznych dla określonych kręgów kulturowych, jak również określenia sposobów ich kształtowania, rozwoju w wizualnych realizacjach w wyrobach rzemiosła artystycznego. Ponadto poza wzorami zdobniczymi dewizek, gdzie symbolika uczuć przybiera formę wizualnego znaku, zostały przeanalizowane pod kątem potencjału emocjonalnego również materiały, z jakich zostały wykonane wybrane obiekty, np. włosy ukochanej osoby. Analizy pozwoliły stwierdzić, że dewizka, posługując się określonymi kodami kulturowymi i przyjmując rolę pamiątki lub tajemnego prezentu, była nośnikiem ukrytych wiadomości na temat skrywanych czy wręcz przeciwnie – manifestowanych uczuć w grupach społecznych.
The article deals with the issue of an original type of jewelry, i.e. watch chains, which in the past were an extraordinary testimony of human emotions expressed in them through symbols and signs presented in an exquisite artistic form. The basis for the considerations was the analysis of selected samples of antique watch chains from museum collections and studies on the history of jewelry, in particular “speaking” jewelry and its symbolism. Taking into account the fact that the subject has not yet been thoroughly researched, so that there is no study in the Polish scientific literature, and that the research in the field of functions, typology, material science, ornamentation and cultural and social significance of this forgotten type of jewelry is just beginning, the article is an attempt to set the directions of research in the field of symbolic meanings and emotional relations of these objects with their owners. In the course of the analysis of selected examples, an attempt has been made to identify and list the dominant patterns of love symbols characteristic of specific cultural circles, as well as to determine the ways of their formation and development in visual realizations in artistic craftsmanship. In addition to the decorative patterns of watch chains, in which the symbolism of feelings takes the form of a visual sign, the materials from which the objects were selected, for example the hair of a loved one, were also analyzed in terms of their emotional potential. The analyses showed that watch chains, in the role of a souvenir or a secret gift, were carriers of hidden messages about implicit or, on the contrary, manifested feelings in social groups, using specific cultural codes.

The Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) became inevitable central navigational tool for effective voyage planning and voyage monitoring execution. Furthermore, each model comprises numerous navigational and other display components, each of them with its limitations, reliability and simplicity. This is also supported by the fact that there is a large number of approved manufacturer systems on the market. Apart from fulfilling the performance standards regulated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the system models differ significantly regarding handling, interface, and interpretation of data and information, therefore biasing the required knowledge and the purposefulness of the system. The aim of this study is to determine navigators’ response in ECDIS comparison of different manufacturer models to identify pros and cons of specific tasks, features and other navigational functions. The present work is based on international survey in form of questionnaire conducted among ECDIS stakeholders. Answers are presented and discussed, revealing certain shortcomings of specific manufacturer ECDIS system. On the other hand, the analyses show the significant advantages of each system, potentially leading to creation of the ideal system from the end-user’s perspective. The proper configuration of ECDIS should standardise functions and display considering different types, and undoubtedly resolve a problematic issue as a consequence of numerous ECDIS models and their diversities.

Статья посвящена проблеме репрезентации визуального в лирическом тексте. Основная проблема, которая решается в статье, – как представлена картина Рембрандта ван Рейна Выступление стрелковой роты капитана Франса Баннинга Кока и лейтенанта Виллема ван Рёйтенбюрга (1642), больше известная в истории культуры как Ночной дозор, в лирическом сюжете стихотворений различных авторов. Материалом статьи являются произведения, в которых картина Рембрандта не просто упоминается, а находится в центре лирического сюжета: стихотворение Александра Кушнера Ночной дозор (1966), песня The Night Watch группы King Crimson (1974), песня The Shooting Company of Captain Frans B. Cocq проекта Ayreon (2000) и стихотворение Александра Городницкого Ночной дозор: Картина Рембрандта ван Рейна (2019). Для достижения цели в статье решается ряд задач. Вопервых, определяется понятийный аппарат, в который входят такие категории, как экфрасис, лирический сюжет, визуальное в литературе. Во-вторых, анализируются выбранные тексты, с точки зрения использования в них картины Рембрандта. И, наконец, в процессе сопоставления произведений делается вывод о том, какие особенности обретает картина Ночной дозор, попадая в контекст лирического стихотворения.
This paper is devoted to the problem of visual representation in a lyric text. The main problem that is solved in the paper is the following: how is Rembrandt Van Rijn’s painitng titled Performance of the rifle company of Captain Frans Banning Kok and Lieutenant Willem Van Ruytenburg (1642) – better known in the history of culture as The Night Watch – presented in the lyrical plot of poems by various authors. The material of the paper consists of the works in which the painting by Rembrandt is in the centre of the lyrical plot, but not merely mentioned. These include: Alexander Kushner’s poem “The Night Watch” (1966), the song “The Night Watch” by King Crimson (1974), “Ayreon’s” song “The Shooting Company of Captain Frans B. Cocq” (2000), and Alexander Gorodnitsky’s poem “The Night Watch: Painting by Rembrandt van Rijn” (2019). To achieve the goal, several tasks are solved in the paper. First, the conceptual apparatus is determined, which includes categories such as ekphrasis, lyric plot, and the visual in literature. Second, the selected texts are analysed from the point of view of the use of Rembrandt’s paintings in them. And, finally, the works are compared with each other and a conclusion is made about what features the The Night Watch paining acquires, falling into the context of a lyric poem.

Most ship collisions and grounding accidents are due to errors made by watchkeeping personnel (WP) on the bridge. International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopts the resolution on the Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) detecting operator disability to avert these accidents. The defined system in the resolution is very basic and vulnerable to abuse. There is a need for a more advanced system of monitoring the behaviour of WP to mitigate watchkeeping errors. In this research, a Bridge Navigation Watch Monitoring System (BNWMS) is suggested to achieve this task. Architecture is proposed to train a model for BNWMS. The literature reveals that vision-based sensors can produce relevant input data required for model training. 2D body poses belonging to the same person are estimated from multiple camera views by using a deep learning-based pose estimation algorithm. Estimated 2D poses are projected into 3D space with a maximum 8 mm error by utilising multiple view computer vision techniques. Finally, the obtained 3D poses are plotted on a bird’s-eye view bridge plan to calculate a heatmap of body motions capturing temporal, as well as spatial, information. The results show that motion heatmaps present significant information about the behaviour of WP within a defined time interval. This automated motion heatmap generation is a novel approach that provides input data for the suggested BNWMS.

Tematem artykułu są perspektywy chronopoetyki w ujęciu literaturoznawczym, rozumianej zarazem jako jeden z rejonów teorii i poetyki kulturowej, ze szczególnym wyeksponowaniem miar czasu i mechaniki zegarowej – głównie w odniesieniu do dziedzictwa epoki wczesnonowożytnej. Poruszone zostały m.in. następujące zagadnienia: termin „chronopoetyka” w polu terminologicznym, mechanika zegarowa jako czynnik rozwoju wczesnej nowożytności, zegar i zegarek w świecie przedstawionym, metaforyka zegara, miary zegarowe jako moduły kompozycyjne, inskrypcje na zegarkach i ich horyzonty badawcze.
The topic of the article are perspectives of the chronopoetics within the litterary criticism approach. It is also understood as one of the regions of the theory/poetics of culture, with particular stress on the measures of time and the clock mechanics – mostly in relation to the early modern heritage. The following issues have been taken up: the term chronopoetics in the terminology field, the clock mechanics as a factor for the development of the early modern civilization, a clock and a watch in the litterary representations, the metaphors of a clock, the measures of time as compositional modules, inscriptions on watches and their research horizons.

Organizational structure of a ship changes under the influence of technological development. Processes on board a ship change as well. Major change refers to the role of the crew and consequently leads to the change of a method of determining competences. Equipment and working processes are becoming more complicated. They have a strong impact on the crew, i.e. on their competences. Competences prescribed in STCW Convention are not in accordance with the changed role of the crew in the processes on board. In STCW Convention, competences have been grouped according to the ship’s functions at different levels of responsibility. Competences have not been prescribed on the basis of the working processes within a system. Such a situation has led to the absence of the proper upgrade of needed competences. Based on the analysis of the functional organizational structure of a ship, the paper suggests more elaborated approach to defining competences. Such an approach links competences with equipment and working processes on board a ship.

The maritime industry is striving towards increasing levels of autonomy within the field of navigation. However, fully autonomous vessel navigation requires an extraordinarily complex system. As a step towards full autonomy and to reduce system complexity, nautical officers should still be available on board to take over the watch from the autonomous system in situations, in which human intervention is required. Therefore, a highly advanced human-machine interface (HMI) is essential, which supports nautical officers in retrieving all necessary information in order to manage the takeover. The implementation of the autonomous system and introduction of an HMI creates new processes, which need to be defined. In this paper, we portray our approach to define the processes for watch handovers from the autonomous system to nautical officers by investigating current watch handover processes. Subsequently, the resulting process models are described and discussed.

It is assumed that the so-called the refugee crisis began in 2015 with a particularly intense influx of this group to the borders of Europe. One of the countries most affected by the problems related to the phenomenon of an increased influx of refugees was and still is Greece. Due to the crisis, the organizations and institutions responsible for monitoring the respect for the rights and freedoms of individuals began to raise doubts related to issues such as human rights violations or counteracting terrorism. The study used the method of source analysis, which was applied to reports from 2015 to 2020, prepared by one of the most important non-governmental organizations dealing with the protection of human rights in the world, namely Human Rights Watch, which produces annual reports on migration and asylum policy of countries European Union. The reports also include information on issues of discrimination and intolerance as well as on counterterrorism. The aim of the study is to check what actions in the field of limiting human rights have been taken by public administration entities, in relation primarily to refugees, but also citizens in general. The research problem is the violations of human rights in the period 2014-2019 in the surveyed country indicated by Human Rights Watch. The content analysis of the reports focused primarily on the part devoted to Greece, as this country was most affected by the crisis related to the reception of the incoming population from different regions of the world, as evidenced by the launch of EU aid for Greece and Italy as the frontline countries. The study used the category of militant democracy, which allows for the theoretical validation of the research and explanation of the activity undertaken by this state in relation to refugees.

In the last decade evolution of the requirements for training and professional competences of ship’s crewmembers, including ship engineers can be observed. Despite the implementation of training programs according to IMO requirements in maritime training centres, a different level of competence of young people beginning their professional career on ships in the engine department is observed. The article discusses general conventions, goals, and effects of the "BS Cadet Program" training program, introduced by one of the larger German ship-owner to improve the competencies of crewmembers at the operational level, who will take duties of the watch engineer in the ship engine room soon. General idea of this training program is reducing the time of the path career what is a standard in most shipping companies. Such idea in this program is utilised by directly merging theoretical knowledge with professional practice on special prepared training vessel. The work present also comparison of the acquired knowledge verification results of training participants with the results of engine cadets from last semester of the UMG Faculty of Engineering. The comparison includes computer exercises of Marine equipment and machineries (UNITEST Company – CBT) also genera ship and engine room knowledge checked by written test called “Final Test” carried out on the end of 3 months training.

The general accessibility and high accuracy of GPS caused that for a dozen or so years it is applied commonly, not only in marine navigation. We can ascertain that in this regard there exists the monopoly. However, now it is apparently that this system can be easily disturbed, what testify numerous reports. The problem has been treated as troubles in land navigation, however nowadays became every-day reality on coastal waters as well, especially on the Mediterranean and Black Seas and Persian Gulf. Officers who survived this tell that the first impulse in such situation is to verify GPS receiver, regardless of the situation around the ship. The concentration of the officer’s attention on the GPS receiver, especially on coastal waters creates the threat for the ship, however in this situation appear other threats which many officers does not associate with GPS. Usually on the present ship GPS receiver is not only the source of positioning information. It is a source of information for many other devices, so inappropriate work of it generates problems with many other processes on the ship. Today question is who on the bridge can notice GPS problems and how? There are receivers which do not inform about the problem, or present not realistic data. Sometimes only ECDIS picture shows some abnormality, for example still the same position while ship is under the way. On the paper the analysis of possibly aspects of the problem is discussed. Presented analysis goes to the conclusion that should be prepared some procedure how to proceed in case of the lack of GPS signals, as well as the watch officer should be prepared to act in such situation. This is a task for marine academies.

Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) is currently on the agenda in several countries and also in the IMO. In Norway a 120 TEU container feeder is being build and will start sailing autonomously in 2022. The challenge is huge. One question is whether or not the present, quantitative, collision regulations needs to be updated to rules where expressions as “early” and “substantial” are quantified? Or if ships can sail autonomously under the present rules? Another question is if MASS should be marked to signal that the ship is in autonomous mode? Or if it is enough that she follows COLREGS? This discussion paper will take a closer look at these questions and advocate automation transparency, meaning that the behavior of an autonomous vessel has to make sense and be understandable to human operators on other manned ships and crafts.

Simulator-based training assumes a very important role in the maritime domain, particularly in the education of Officers Of the Watch (OOW). In the Portuguese Navy, most of the cadet’s skills as future OOW rely on the success of this training. Beyond theory and technical training, the development of non-technical skills is a key factor for obtaining officers capable of identifying and solving problems. To optimize the training and development of non-technical skills, using the Portuguese Naval Academy Simulator, a previously designed Behavioral Marker System model was further assessed. The revised model, which comprises new parameters such as the effectiveness of the task, was validated through a set of simulated sessions, where 11 instructors and 48 students participated. After each session, data was collected with questionnaires and focus group discussion, focusing on the quality and usability of the model and on the design of the scenario. The results show that the revised model, positively addresses the limitations found on the previous version, and it has received encouraging feedback from both instructors and cadets. This new model is now under implementation in all the Naval Academy course programs, and future research aims to digitalize the behavior markers.

W artykule zostały omówione ogólne założenia, cele oraz efekty działania programu szkoleniowego „BS Cadet Program”, jaki wprowadził jeden z większych niemieckich armatorów w celu poprawy wyszkolenia członków załóg na poziomie operacyjnym w dziale maszynowym, którzy dopiero będą obejmować obowiązki mechanika wachtowego w siłowni okrętowej. W pracy zawarto również porównanie wyników weryfikacji zdobytej wiedzy przez uczestników szkolenia z wynikami studentów Wydziału Mechanicznego po ostatnim roku nauki.
The article discusses general conventions, goals and effects of the "BS Cadet Program" training program, introduced by one of the largest German shipowners to improve the competences of crew members at the operational level, who will take up duties of the watch engineer in the ship engine room soon. The work also presents the results comparison of verification of knowledge acquired by participants during the training with the results gained by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering students being after their last semester of studies.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę efektywności systemów logistycznych służących do kompletacji wykorzystywanych w nowoczesnych magazynach. Opracowanie zostało wykonane na podstawie systemów, które oferuje firma LUCA Logistic Solution. Badania do artykułu zostały przeprowadzone w Centrum Badawczo-Rozwojowe Systemów Logistycznych na Wydziale Inżynierii Produkcji i Logistyki Politechniki Opolskiej. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie czasów trwania kompletacji poszczególnych metod. W pierwszej części występuje opis teoretyczny systemów logistycznych, w drugiej natomiast wyniki badań oraz ich interpretacja.
The article presents an analysis of the efficiency of logistic systems used for picking process implemented in modern warehouses. The study was based on the systems offered by LUCA Logistic Solution. The research for the article was carried out at the Research and Development Center of Logistic Systems at the Faculty of Production Engineering and Logistics at the Opole University of Technology. The aim of the work is to present the completion times of individual methods. The first part contains a theoretical description of the logistic systems, the second part presents the results of research and their interpretation.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę systemów lokalizacji, monitoringu i sterowania stosowanych w podziemnych zakładach górniczych. Opisany został protokół Zigbee zastosowany w kopalniach węgla kamiennego oraz rodzaje topologii łączenia sensorów bezprzewodowo. Zaproponowano koncepcję optymalizacji obecnie istniejącego systemu detekcji ludzi i urządzeń za pomocą wprowadzenia innowacyjnego rozwiązania tzw. inteligentnego zegarka w celu poprawy szeroko rozumianego bezpieczeństwa pracy kopalni. Opisano budowę, schemat działania oraz konstrukcję nowoczesnego rozwiązania tzw. inteligentnego zegarka. Przedstawiono potencjalne korzyści wynikające z wdrożenia prezentowanego w artykule rozwiązania.
Characteristics of localization systems, monitoring and control implemented at present in underground mines were presented. The Zigbee protocol along with the different topologies for connecting wireless sensor networks were described. A concept of optimizing the currently implemented detection systems for personnel and equipment through the introduction of the „intelligent watch” innovative solution in order to improve security were mentioned. The construct and schematic model of our innovative device were described. Moreover the potential benefits resulting from the utilization of the solution were presented in this article.
