    The starting point of this article is the relationship of art and science from the perspective of epistemological and ontological insights of philosophers of science and researchers of contemporary art. Further on, the author presents the specificity of the interaction of art and pedagogy, in which the complex subject of the latter opens the field to various sources, styles and languages of knowing and understanding of the world and the human being (including the language of the arts). Seeing art as an important exploration tool for the analysis of education in qualitative pedagogical research, the author summarizes the assumptions of visual ethnography – a research method that, as she explains, oscillates between art and science (with its methodological appeal to the image as the primary medium of the art). In the conclusion, she indicates cognitive and practical benefits which may result from using the concepts that derive from the arts as a source of knowledge about the educational reality.

    The article presents the basic concepts and methodological procedures of grounded theory methodology that uses visual data and is called visual grounded theory. It uses the visual data to con¬struct categories, theoretical properties of categories for action and visual phenomena that manifest themselves as processes. Present article introduces, therefore, the rules and procedures for visual grounded theory based on both my own, and other authors research experience. In order to bet¬ter illustrate the procedures in question, there are presented examples of these studies. The visual analysis is conducted at four levels: creating an image, its presentation, its content and structure and its reception. It is the basis for the concept of multislice imagining and visual grounded theory helps to reconstruct it.

    Artykuł przedstawia ogólny zarys teorii i praktyki badań wizualnych w edukacji. Przybliża etnografię wizualną jako jedną z dostępnych metodologii badawczych oraz wybrane techniki zbierania danych. Próba prześledzenia zastosowań metodologii wizualnej wskazuje, że obrazy mogą stanowić podstawę analizy poglądów społecznych i kulturowych oraz procesu postrzegania zjawisk przez uczniów, studentów, nauczycieli, edukatorów czy członków innych społeczności związanych z edukacją. Poruszone zostały także kwestie etyczne związane z publikowaniem danych wizualnych, takie jak anonimowość czy zakres wynegocjowanej konstrukcji znaczeniowej. W głównych refleksjach podkreślono znaczenie etnografii wizualnej jako kluczowej metodologii pozyskiwania bogatych danych, które umożliwiają dostęp do przestrzeni edukacyjnych, jak również znaczenie technik partycypacyjnych w gromadzeniu danych oraz roli technologii jako niezaprzeczalnego „uczestnika” procesu badawczego.
    This article provides an overview of the theory and practice of visual research in education. It introduces visual ethnography as one of the available research methodologies and selected data collection techniques. The attempt to trace the applications of visual methodology shows that images can be the basis for analyzing social and cultural views and the process of perceiving phenomena by pupils, students, teachers, educators or members of other communities related to education. Ethical issues related to the publication of visual data, such as anonymity or the scope of the negotiated construction of meaning, are also addressed. The main reflections highlighted the importance of visual ethnography as a key methodology for capturing rich data to access educational spaces, as well as the importance of participatory techniques in data collection and the role of technology as an undeniable “participant” in the research process.

    Our view of organizations, labour and the competencies of managers will soon need to change. In the postmodern and post-Fordist world, economy and organizations function differently than they did in the 20th century. Workers and managers will have to face new expectations. Not only has reflectivity become one of the key organisational factors; it is also taught, learnt and shaped. Drawing on an authoethnographic model and action-research, authors of this paper provide an education and development tool that managers and workers can use to develop and trigger reflectivity. Picture ethnography, coaching philosophy and hermeneutics are theoretical bases for the construction of a new model of self-development.     Przyszłość wymaga od ludzi innego spojrzenia na funkcjonowanie organizacji, wykonywaną w nich przez ludzi pracę oraz posiadane przez menedżerów kompetencje. W świecie ponowoczesności i postfordyzmu gospodarka i organizacje funkcjonują w odmienny sposób niż w XX wieku. Tym samym innego rodzaju oczekiwania adresowane są do pracowników. Refleksyjność stała się nie tylko jednym z kluczowych zasobów ludzi i organizacji, lecz także przedmiotem kształcenia. Autorzy tekstu, w oparciu o model autoetnografii i action-research, ukazują autorskie narzędzie do pracy rozwojowej, skierowane do menedżerów i pracowników m.in. w kontekście kreowania i wyzwalania w nich refleksyjności. Etnografia obrazu, filozofia coachingu, hermeneutyka stanowią podstawy teoretyczne do skonstruowania modelu nowego modelu pracy nad samym sobą.     The article refers to one of the potential action paths for educating teachers and refers to the possibility of using applied research in the process of identifying social problems by students. It is an attempt to answer the questions about how to prepare university graduates to recognize in their professional work completely new situations and to solve the previously unknown dilemmas resulting from the rapid development of civilization. The structure of the presented study reflects successive stages of searching for possibilities to solve the methodological problem outlined above. The first part covers the basic assumptions of visual ethnography with particular emphasis on photo-ethnography and the foundations of Yjro Engeström's theory of expansive learning, on which the idea of action was based. The second part outlines the scheme of the basic activity, with particular attention paid to the subject of the activity, which uses elements of visual ethnography as a way to change the activity and use the potential of both entities (teacher and students) participating in it.
    Artykuł odnosi się do jednej z potencjalnych ścieżek działania w zakresie kształcenia pedagogów i nawiązuje do możliwości wykorzystania badań stosowanych w procesie rozpoznawania problemów społecznych przez studentów. Jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytania o to, w jaki sposób przygotowywać absolwentów studiów wyższych do rozpoznawania w pracy zawodowej zupełnie nowych sytuacji i rozstrzygania nieznanych im dotąd dylematów, wynikających z szybkiego rozwoju cywilizacyjnego. Struktura prezentowanego opracowania odzwierciedla kolejne etapy poszukiwania możliwości rozwiązywania zarysowanego powyżej problemu metodycznego. Część pierwsza obejmuje podstawowe założenia etnografii wizualnej ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem fotoetnografii oraz podstawy teorii ekspansywnego uczenia się Yjro Engeströma, na których oparto pomysł działania. W części drugiej zarysowano schemat podstawowego działania, zaś szczególną uwagę zwrócono na przedmiot działalności, w którym zastosowane zostały elementy etnografii wizualnej jako sposób na zmianę aktywności i wykorzystanie potencjału obu podmiotów (nauczyciela i studentów) biorących w niej udział.

    The Józef Burszta Digital Archive [Cyfrowe Archiwum im. Józefa Burszty; http://cyfrowearchiwum.amu.edu.pl] is an online platform established in 2014 for publication of audiovisual materials collected since the 1950s by the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.The Józef Burszta Digital Archive functions on the basis of Creative Commons licenses and has the status of a social archive. There are broad applications for its resources both in academe and beyond. The author discusses the bases for founding the archive, the specifics of its accessible materials, and plans for its future activities.

    This article is based on an analysis of the content of the private archive of Professor Roman Reinfuss (1910-1998) which was being donated to the Ethnographic Museum in Kraków in the year 2010. The main part of the archive consists of visuals, mostly photographs made by Reinfuss himself during his various ethnographic research as well as other visual materials collected by Professor. The visuality of the Reinfuss’s private archive is discussed in the context of broader ethnographic experiences and anthropological discourses. In particular, the author problematizes sensorial dimension of ethnography, relationship between ethnography and photography, Reinfuss’s attitude toward traditional folk culture which is revealed in his usage of photography. There is a focus on correlations between “private” and “public” photography and on the structure of visual experience based on photography.

    Regardless of the growing popularity of visual studies, the subject of the tools for image content analysis particularly employed in the non-critical paradigms to categorize large amounts of data and allow triangulation between the qualitative and the quantitative techniques is nearly absent in Polish sociological writings. The main goal of this article is to at least partially fill this gap. The author pursues this objective through the adoption of a broad perspective for the discussion of the manner in which the coding sheet has been designed and used in a research project “The Invisible City.” Illustrating the point with the chosen example, he follows the rules in the sheet construction and operation, and also seeks them in a photographing scenario, the initial categorization of data, and sampling. Also, he analysis the aims and the consequences of a non-institutional forms of space modification in a large Polish cities and the methodological dilemmas of studying the subject with a visual means.

    Tekst jest owocem współpracy między Kamilem Pietrowiakiem, prowadzącym badania etnograficzne na temat budowania dorosłości i samodzielności przez osoby niewidome (18–40 lat) oraz dwoma uczestniczkami badań – Sandrą Tworkowską i Joanną Zdobylak. Metodyczną i etyczną inspirację artykułu stanowią postulaty collaborative ethnography wyrażane przez Luke’a Erica Lassitera i badania społeczne przez wspólne doświadczenie Anny Wyki, według których warto dążyć do otwartej współpracy z uczestnikami badań na każdym etapie ich prowadzenia, w tym także w miarę możliwości pisać wraz z nimi wspólne teksty etnograficzne. Idąc za tą myślą, autorzy stworzyli wielogłosową prezentację wiedzy, odczuć i opinii na temat wybranych zagadnień związanych z życiem młodych osób niewidomych. Do poruszanych kwestii należą: wzajemne postrzeganie się i współżycie osób widzących i niewidomych; dominacja wizualnego modelu kultury; dostępność i dostosowanie różnych wymiarów świata do potrzeb osób niewidomych.
    The article is the result of collaboration between the author, whose ethnographical research focuses on the ways of building adulthood and self-reliance by blind people at the age of 18–40, and two of his consultants – Sandra Tworkowska and Joanna Zdobylak. Methodological and ethical inspiration for this undertaking are taken from in the Luke E. Lassiter’s conception of collaborative ethnography, as well as the idea of social research through shared experience promoted by Anna Wyka. According to these researchers, it is recommended to aim at open collaboration with interlocutors at all of the research stages, including writing ethnographic. Following these ideas, the authors created a polyphonic presentation of knowledge, feelings and opinions on the subjects connected with the life of the blind. These include the mutual perception and coexistence of the blind and the sighted, the domination of the visual model of culture and the accessibility of various elements of the world for needs of the blind.
