    In this paper, we propose an optimal viewpoint selection system for monitoring robots to search for the optimal viewpoint of a scene with the highest aesthetic property. Using the information of the targets, we propose a novel method for predicting human aesthetic sense for a scene. We construct evaluation functions based on certain known composition rules using three factors, namely, target size, visual balance, and composition fitting value. Then a score, which is a reflection of human evaluation, will be obtained using these functions. The optimal viewpoint will be selected from a number of candidates around the target group, by evaluating the aesthetic properties of scenes for each candidate viewpoint. Finally, once the optimal viewpoint is confirmed, path planning and path following controls are implemented for the robots during the moving process.

    Kashubian national discourse – an anthropological viewpointAn animated discussion concerning the status of the Kashubs is at present ongoing in Kashubia. In 2005, the Act on National and Ethnic Minorities and the Regional Language was passed in Poland and Kashubian gained the status of a regional language within Poland but Kashubs were not recognized as a distinct group. Following the 2011 Census, the Association of People of Kashubian Nationality, Kaszëbskô Jednota, was created. The Association considers Kashubs to be a nation and is striving to change the Kashub status to that of an ethnic minority. The Kashubian–Pomeranian Association which until now was the only institutional representative of Kashubs does not recognize the Kaszëbskô Jednota aspirations and they consider that Kashubs have a double Polish and Kashubian identity. Both organizations are trying to convince as many people as possible to support their arguments. Meanwhile in Kashubia there are numerous cultural and political movements which influence the Kashubian identity. This article is an analysis of the Kashubian national discourse based on socio-scientific texts and Kaszëbskô Jednota information documents, media sources and interviews with young Kashubs engaged in the movement. This analysis confirms that the Kashubian identity is changing and the discussions underline different perceptions of the role which Kashubs should have in Poland.

    The contribution deals with selected questions of the interaction between the so called “lexical aspect” (the opposition between telicity and atelicity) and the grammatical aspect (or so called “viewpoint”- aspect, i.e. the opposition between perfectivity and imperfectivity) in the languages with and without the overtly encoded aspect. The striking point of the analysis is the “complexive” meaning of aspectual forms and constructions involving lexical atelicity by indicating durativity or iterativity, on the one hand, and grammatical perfectivity by indicating the complexive perspective of the verbal action on the other. This type of aspectuality was a special feature of verbal systems with the aorist category. My claim is, thus, that the contemporary English has a special grammatical form of the “complexive aorist”, i.e. the form of Present Perfect Progressive. The Slavic languages encode this function by using the – unmarked – imperfective forms of the verbs, whereas German uses special means of encoding the very same function on the whole-clause level, such as adverbials or definite vs. indefinite or zero article.

    The article makes a case for a particular kind of conceptual metaphor, the viewpoint metaphor. The viewpoint metaphor is argued to be a tool employed by narrators in personal experience narratives in order to render their irregular perception mode. The viewpoint metaphor allows mapping on the narrated real experience the perception characteristics of other experiences such as watching a movie or having a dream. The research material consisted of a sample of 50 personal experience narratives (25 in English and 25 in Ukrainian) produced by the participants or witnesses, military and civilian, of hostilities mainly in Ukraine in 2014-2023 and in some other conflicts. It was found that two basic and most prominent viewpoint metaphors in this kind of discourse is EXPERIENCING THE EVENT is DREAMING OF THE EVENT or WATCHING A MOVIE OF THE EVENT. These metaphors are often reinforced by other viewpoint metaphors and they tend to repeatedly occur in the narrative. The function of the viewpoint metaphor is expressing the subjective experientiality, emotional condition and embodied perception mode at the time of the experience narrated. Viewpoint is therefore argued to be a part of the mental space’s construal. Studying the viewpoint metaphor allows to shed light onto the conceptual structure of viewpoint. It was found that the elements mapped from the source experience of watching a movie or having a dream include passive witnessing, reduced agency, hushed perception, unreality of events, timelapse, and slow motion.
    W artykule przedstawiono argumenty za istnieniem szczególnego rodzaju metafory pojęciowej – metafory oglądu. Metafora oglądu jest narzędziem stosowanym w narracjach dotyczących osobistych doświadczeń narratorów w celu oddania niezwykłości tych doświadczeń. Metafora ta pozwala na użycie w narracji rzeczywistego doświadczenia projekcji cech percepcyjnych innych doświadczeń, takich jak oglądanie filmu lub sen. Materiał badawczy stanowił korpus 50 narracji osobistych doświadczeń (25 w języku angielskim i 25 w języku ukraińskim) wojskowych i cywilnych  uczestników lub świadków działań wojennych, przede wszystkim  w Ukrainie w latach 2014-2023 oraz w niektórych innych konfliktach. Stwierdzono, że dwie podstawowe i najbardziej widoczne metafory oglądu w tego rodzaju dyskursie to DOŚWIADCZENIE WYDARZENIA to SEN O WYDARZENIU lub OGLĄDANIE FILMU Z WYDARZENIA. Metafory te są często wzmacniane przez inne metafory oglądu i zwykle pojawiają się wielokrotnie w narracji. Funkcją metafory oglądu jest wyrażanie subiektywnego doświadczenia, stanu emocjonalnego i ucieleśnionego trybu percepcji w momencie doświadczenia, które jest opowiadane. Dlatego też punkt widzenia jest traktowany tutaj jako część konstrukcji przestrzeni mentalnej. Badanie metafory oglądu pozwala rzucić światło na strukturę pojęciową punktu widzenia. Z badania wynika, że cechy percepcji przejęte na podstawie doświadczenia domeny źródłowej (oglądania filmu czy snu) obejmują bycie biernym świadkiem, zmniejszoną sprawczość, wyciszoną percepcję, nierzeczywistość wydarzeń, klatkowość widzenia i zwolnione tempo.

    At the beginning of her article, the author briefly presents the assumptions of memorystudies. She indicates that literature and written forms create some kind of “traces” of memory and shows, among written genres, the letter as a genre particu- larly associated with life and as an auto-narrative personal document. The use of the letter genre in the function of a special medium activating the personal memory of the intra-textual recipient in literature for children and adolescents is the subject of further analysis. In two novels for youth: “Dziewczyna z pomarańczami” (Girl with oranges by Jostein Gaarder) and “Moja droga Aleksandro”(My dear Aleksandra by Krystyna Siesicka), the author analyses the following categories: communicative situation, time variability (experiencing the past, present and future), view point with change ability of focus, perspective change and pronouns, as well as signs of dialogism in texts of literary letters.

    The present account – conducted in the paradigm of the recent approach to Plato – comprises a new translation with a short introduction and source bibliography. It consists of three major parts: I. Plato’s own testimonies: arguments against writing; II. References within the dialogues to the dialectic of principles (a selection); III. Testimonia Platonica (a selection). Apart from the relevant parts of Plato’s dialogues, the testimonies of Aristotle, Theophrastus and Sextus Empiricus have been taken into account. The translation of the testimonies has been arranged in a more systematizing manner than it was in the previous editions. The idea is to provide the Polish reader with reliable sources on the widely discussed hermeneutics of the written and unwritten Plato.

    Our work involves hand posture recognition based on 3D data acquired by the KinectTM sensor in the form of point clouds. We combine a descriptor built on the basis of the Viewpoint Feature Histogram (VFH) with additional feature describing the number of extended fingers. First, we extract a region corresponding to the hand and then a histogram of the edge distances from the palm center is built. Based on quantized version of the histogram we calculate the number of extended fingers. This information is used as a first feature describing the hand which, together with VFH-based features, form the feature vector. Before calculating VFH we rotate the hand making our method invariant to hand rotations around the axis perpendicular to the camera lens. Finally, we apply nearest neighbor technique for the posture classification. We present results of crossvalidation tests performed on a representative dataset consisting of 10 different postures, each shown 10 times by 10 subjects. The comparison of recognition rate and mean computation time with other works performed on this dataset confirms the usefulness of our approach.

    Wśród różnych wyznań chrześcijańskich istnieją rozmaite poglądy na temat piekła. W artykule przedstawiono różnorodne stanowiska teologiczne dotyczące piekła, nad którymi debatowano w ciągu ostatnich dziesięciu lat (2010–2020) w Stanach Zjednoczonych na płaszczyźnie teologicznej oraz w prasie popularnej. Badane są tutaj: anihilacjonizm, uniwersalizm i tradycyjny punkt widzenia. Dla każdej generalnej kategorii przedstawiono różne teorie filozoficzne, teologiczne i biblijne. W artykule starano się zaprezentować ogólny przegląd rozmaitych teologii, aby pokazać, że takie teologiczne dociekania powinny być niezwłocznie podjęte, bo mają bardzo ważne znaczenie dla współczesnych chrześcijan.
    Among the differing Christian denominations there are various viewpoints regarding hell. This article presents differing viewpoints of the theological questions concerning hell that have been debated over the last ten years (2010–2020) in the United States in the theological arena as well as the popular press. The positions of annihilationism, universalism, and the traditional viewpoint are be surveyed. The differing philosophical, theological and biblical are presented for each general category. The article strives to give a general overview of the various theologies and to show that such theological investigation is of urgent importance for Christians today.

    In the paper, two preprocessing methods for virtual view synthesis are presented. In the first approach, both horizontal and vertical resolutions of the real views and the corresponding depth maps are doubled in order to perform view synthesis on images with densely arranged points. In the second method, real views are filtered in order to eliminate blurred or improperly shifted edges of the objects. Both methods are performed prior to synthesis, thus they may be applied to different Depth-Image-Based Rendering algorithms. In the paper, for both proposed methods, the achieved quality gains are presented.

    In this paper, a modification of the graph-based depth estimation is presented. The purpose of proposed modification is to increase the quality of estimated depth maps, reduce the time of the estimation, and increase the temporal consistency of depth maps. The modification is based on the image segmentation using superpixels, therefore in the first step of the proposed modification a segmentation of previous frames is used in the currently processed frame in order to reduce the overall time of the depth estimation. In the next step, a depth map from the previous frame is used in the depth map optimization as the initial values of a depth map estimated for the current frame. It results in the better representation of silhouettes of objects in depth maps and in the reduced computational complexity of the depth estimation process. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed modification the authors performed the experiment for a set of multiview test sequences that varied in their content and an arrangement of cameras. The results of the experiments confirmed the increase of the depth maps quality - the quality of depth maps calculated with the proposed modification is higher than for the unmodified depth estimation method, apart from the number of the performed optimization cycles. Therefore, use of the proposed modification allows to estimate a depth of the better quality with almost 40% reduction of the estimation time. Moreover, the temporal consistency, measured through the reduction of the bitrate of encoded virtual views, was also considerably increased.

    Contemporary tourism is one of the most dynamically developing branches of the global economy. Together with travelling masses there come reflections on the cultural and social determinants of travelling itself and tourism, as well as meetings with the other, i.e. the cornerstone of anthropological research. Tourist sensitivity may now be observed from the interesting perspective of a photograph which reveals not so much the intentions of the author as the whole baggage of his or her cultural experience and related contexts. This tourist viewpoint, while often stereotypical, does not necessarily have to be a mere reproduction of certain representations. An example from an online forum about travelling in Morocco shows that some travellers are becoming increasingly aware of the complexity of contacts with foreign culture. Most of them understand that sensitivity and respect are usually the key to mutual understanding and turning tourism into an ethical tool for exploring the world.

    Kulturowe usługi ekosystemowe (ang. CES- Cultural Ecosystem Services), to usługi świadczone przez ekosystemy i krajobrazy, które cechują się wartościami niematerialnymi. Usługi te nie byłyby „konsumowane”, gdyby w przestrzeni nie funkcjonowały obiekty przekazujące te usługi od producentów (ekosystemów, krajobrazów) do odbiorców (człowieka). Takimi dystrybutorami CES są punkty widokowe. Celem pracy jest określenie klas CES podlegających dystrybucji za pośrednictwem punktów widokowych oraz wskazanie klas cieszących się największym zainteresowaniem wśród odbiorców. Badania prowadzono na terenie miasta Kazimierz Dolny. Wyniki pokazują, że badane punkty widokowe mają w swojej ofercie szeroki wachlarz CES, jednak popyt na te usługi jest znaczenie węższy i uzależniony od położenia i promocji punktu. Wyniki pokazały także, że płatne punkty widokowe charakteryzują się podobnie szeroką ofertą CES jak punkty bezpłatne.
    Cultural Ecosystem Services (CES) refer to services provided by ecosystems and landscapes that have non-material values. These services would not be „consumed” if there were no objects in the environment that transmit these services from produ-cers (ecosystems, landscapes) to recipients (humans). Such distributors of CES are viewpoints. The purpose of this work is to determine the classes of CES that are provided through viewpoints and to indicate the classes that are most popular among recipients. The research was conducted in the town of Kazimierz Dolny. The results show that the viewpoints in the study area offer a broad range of CES, but the demand for these services is much smaller and depends on the location and promotion of the viewpoint. The results also showed that pay-to-enter viewpoints have a similarly broad CES offer as those that are free of charge.

    The aim of this paper is to justify the assumption that understanding is the essence of learning. From the constructivist viewpoint understanding is a complex mental and social process that involves decoding the symbolic message received from others and then interpreting and assigning a personal meaning to that message. Since personal background largely determines how the message will be understood it is important that the development of the learning environment encourages understanding from multiple perspective. Therefore the learning process should be based on techniques drawn from the constructivist’s epistemological assumptions, e.g., construction of intersubjective perspective, situated cognition in authentic life contexts and collaborative learning environment.

    This article focuses on describing the process of the establishment of emotional contact between an observer and an urban identity in small historic areas. The objective is to formulate the terminological tools for describing phenomena of visual observation and spatial exploration by the observer. The author sets out tasks for future research
    Artykuł opisuje proces formowania wzajemnych relacji oraz emocjonalnych kontaktów pomiędzy obserwatorem i identyfikacją miasta w jego niewielkich, historycznych obszarach. Głównym celem badań jest uformowanie właściwej terminologii opisującej zjawisko wizualnych powiązań oraz przestrzennej eksploracji widza. Praca jest wstępem do badań nad tym tematem w przyszłości.

    W artykule przedstawione zostały „prawa widzenia” budowli w przestrzeni krajobrazu opisane w jednym z pierwszych polskojęzycznych podręczników z dziedziny architektury i budownictwa, napisanym i wydanym w 1812 roku w Krakowie przez Sebastiana Alojzego Sierakowskiego (1743–1824) - duchownego, architekta i naukowca, sprawującego ważne urzędy publiczne w odchodzącej w przeszłość dawnej Polsce przełomu XVIII i XIX wieku. Opisane sugestywnym i barwnym językiem zasady percepcji obiektów tworzą rodzaj oryginalnego zbioru reguł odwołujących się do pojęć z zakresu optyki, perspektywy i kompozycji, które zasługują na uważną analizę i odczytanie na nowo w kontekście trwających dyskusji nad stanem polskiego krajobrazu i systemem planowania miast.
    This paper presents the ‘precepts of perception’ of buildings observed in the space of the landscape that were described in one of the first Polish-language handbooks on architecture and construction published in Krakow in 1812 by Sebastian Alojzy Sierakowski (1743–1824)-a clergyman, architect and scientist, as well as a statesman holding important public positions during the turn of the nineteenth century in what was becoming historical Poland. Sierakowski’s principles of building perception-described in suggestive and colourful language—created a kind of original set of rules referring to optics, perspective and composition, that deserve careful analysis and re-reading in the present times of ongoing discourse on the condition of the Polish landscape and city planning system.
