Opis:

In chapter 2 Swinburne rejects physicalism for two reason. The first is that it is committed to entailments that do not exist. It is suggested that this reason is questionable both because there is no persuasive reason to deny there are such entailments, and also no reason to think that physicalism has such entailments. The second reason is that the mental involves privileged access by the subject and physical features do not allow privileged access. It is proposed that the physical does in fact permit privileged access. In chapter 3 Swinburne defends the Simple View of personal identity. The reasoning is very complex and rich, but it is proposed that Swinburne has not really shown that a reductionist account cannot be correct.

In this paper the author focuses on the image of the African leaders in the reports of the French international media, above all the journals and magazines that are disseminated in Africa (the weekly „Jeune Afrique" or the monthly „Afrique Magazine"). France is, however, the biggest patron of the Black Continent, at least of its French-speaking part, so the countries that belong to la Franco- phonie (an international organization uniting French-speaking lands). Africa is perceived in the European consciousness as a poor continent with a very rich nature world. Moreover, Africa is perceived by the West also in accordance with the Western standards, so with the liberal-democratic frameworks. As a consequence, the African leaders often are described as political animals (les animaux politiques) or, in the cases of many dictators, as predators of freedom (predateurs de la liberte), like in the case of the Reporters Without Borders' list of the dictators that attack the media. Hence, in many reports from Africa, the leaders receive some metaphoric animal labels like „the black beast" or „the old lion". It is noteworthy that the women taking over the rules in Africa are not perceived as „predators of freedom" or „black beast" that is a good conclusion for the future of this continent.

Opis:

Values are an essential, intrinsic part of language and the linguistic view of the world. They are associated with the point of view and perspective of perception of the surrounding reality, and the linguistic view of the world is derived from the presumed value system. When studying language, one can discuss values, their hierarchy, the cultural orientation of the system of judgments and patterns, ways of judging, typical of a given community. Interest in the influence of values on worldview and, consequently, on intercultural communication resulted in a study in the form of an associative experiment among Polish and Ukrainian youth. Its results showed that the perception of values is most often similar or even the same in both nationality groups, e.g. associative interpretations of such phenomena as health, love, friendship, etc. Differences in understanding are more noticeable in values that are ranked differently, cf. security, honesty, etc.

Opis:

Inter-organizational relations (IORs), complex constructs existing on the verge of companies’ boundaries, are a popular area of managerial and academic investigation, due to their ability to create sustainable competitive advantage. The aim of the article is to show applicability, insights and limitations of economic perspective in IORs analysis. By reviewing advances of selected economic and organizational theories exploring IORs, we will try to answer the following questions: - Can economic thought add any novelty to IOR analysis in the era of dynamic global shifts in competitive environment? Are economic lenses still useful and applicable here? - Do organizational sciences’ academics take more practical, down to earth approach, or have they just moved forward (or blurred the clarity of) their theories by employing advances from social sciences, like sociology and psychology? - Are these two perspectives contradictory or supplementary? The article is divided into four parts. Firstly, we propose an analytical framework to study inter-organizational relations, secondly we analyze the theories focused on IORs as results of rational choices; thirdly, we move to theories exploring the reasons why IORs are built in a specific way, and then to concepts looking for conditions, methods and key drivers of IORs successful management. In conclusion, we give a brief summary of the main findings together with the limitations and areas open for further investigation of inter-organizational relations.

Opis:

Szadek – a town fulfilling in the past important administrative and socio-economic functions – is found on almost all maps of old Poland’s territory. Therefore plentiful archival material is kept in the Central Archive of Old Documents in Warsaw and Public Records Office in Łódź. It allows various studies on the history of Szadek and its inhabitants to be conducted, but the town’s spatial structure – both its origins and stages of development – can be studied on the basis of cartographic sources from the 19th century, especially several hand-drawn general plans. The article presents cartographic material kept in the Central Archive of Old Documents, with a particular focus on three plans of the town drawn up in the mid-19th century. They make it possible to trace changes in the spatial structure of the town and the character of construction work carried out at that time.

W artykule przedstawiono najważniejsze wyznaczniki koncepcji Resource-Based View (RBV), która nie tylko eksponuje kluczowe znaczenie zasobów w tworzeniu przewagi konkurencyjnej, lecz także podkreśla istotną funkcję, jaką pełnią zasoby w rozwoju kompetencji przedsiębiorstwa.
Firms are constantly looking for ways and tools enabling competitive advantage creation. Among the factors affecting such advantage achievement and maintenance one can specify – among others – business strategic potentials, which include: resources, capabilities and competences. The article presents the most important characteristics of the Resource-Based View (RBV) concept. RBV concept not only exposes the vital importance of resources in competitive advantage creation, but also emphasizes the important role which is played by resources in firm competences development.

The aim of the present paper is to carry out a preliminary study of the Nahua pre- Hispanic god called Techalotl. The first part focuses on the animal avatar of this deity, whose identification in colonial sources ranges from squirrel to skunk and mole, and which, at the same time, shares many characteristics with the opossum. The next step consists on the comparison of the limited data about Techalotl included in the alphabetic and pictographic documents from Central Mexico, in order to determine the domain of this god. It has been noted that on the iconographic level he resembles the “gods-Five” or macuiltonaleque, which links him to the field of dances, songs, performances, mockery (hence his description as “god of buffoons”) and excesses. The latter aspect is reflected, among others, in his relation to sexuality and transgression, quite evident from the festive context in which the figure of the impersonator of this deity appears. The sexual connotations of squirrel are also visible in the symbolism of this animal among the Nahuas and, more broadly, in Mesoamerica, that has survived to this day in various indigenous communities.

This article demonstrates how language and culture determine the use of German „Heimat”, „Heimatland” and „Vaterland” translated into Polish as „ojczyzna”. From the perspective of anthropocentric linguistics, the central research object is primarily the translator who is responsible for the appropriateness of the translation result. The explication reflects the theories within the scope of linguistic worldview, developed by J. Bartmiński and A. Wierzbicka. The cognitive aspects of literary translation will be explained on the example of Mascha Kaléko’s poems, originally written in German.

Opis:

This article is about realization of the laboratory stand used for measuring parameters of LCD displays. The stand together with additional accessories (spectrophotometer and measuring probes) as well as software allow to measure a wide range of parameters (colour gamut, response time, contrast coefficient and its irregularity, luminance of black colour and its irregularity, luminance of white colour and its irregularity, changes of luminance depending on the viewing angle). This paper also show method and results of measurements of differences in contrast ratio and luminance uniformity between particular pieces of the same model of a display screen (research has been carried out on 5 pieces of the same model of a display). The presented results show that the measured value of the viewing angle may significantly differ from the value provided by producers of displays.

Business models from the 90s are used to transform the idea of entrepreneur in the value creation process. This paper presents a proposal to modify the concept of the business model according to A. Osterwalder and Y. Pigneur. It pointed out the need to pay attention to intangible assets while defining elements of the business model. Attention was also drawn to the appropriate integration of intangible and tangible assets, because the interaction of all elements of the business model can achieve synergistic effects that manifest themselves in gaining competitive advantage.

Background: From the public health perspective, it is particularly important to establish links between a persons' perception of their own health and their predispositions to undertake pro-health behaviours that enable them to maintain proper functioning of their body. In the case of the paediatric population, it is crucial to emphasise that adults are responsible for the adoption and development of appropriate health-enhancing behaviours by children. The aim of this study is to verify parents' perception of the level of children’s physical activity (PA) in comparison with objective measures describing children's physical fitness. Material and methods: Material for analysis consists of the results of anthropometric tests and cardiopulmonary exercise capacity of children as well as questionnaires concerning 28,891 children completed by parents. Results: In more than 40% of the sample, the subjectively assessed level of PA was not consistent with the cardiorespiratory fitness level. It was observed that the correct assessment of the level of PA of children is more common for girls, increases with the age of the child and with the level of parental education.

Opis:

The research focuses on the setting-up of a free zone strengthening the economic diversification of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Dedicated to storage, handling and trading of high value items and in particular artworks and jewellery. The Luxembourg Freeport was inaugurated in September 2014. Using the Resource-Based View as theoretical framework, the paper aims to show what combinations of resources can have a positive impact on economic activities in connection with the Freeport. The research confirms that these activities go beyond pure logistical and operational sights. The findings highlight a triptych of resources justifying this location in an environment where art, finance and logistics seem to create a virtuous circle benefiting economic development of the country and promoting the rise of clustering effects.

Der unerschöpfliche Schatz der Doktrin vom Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil über das Ehesakrament stellt die Kanonistik vor die wichtige Aufgabe, sich immer neue Mühe zu geben, um das theologische Magisterium zur Ebene des kanonischen Rechts zu verpflanzen. Es geht ja um die großzügige Teilnahme der Canones an der prophetisch-pastoralen Sendung der Kirche, die volle Wahrheit über die Ehe zu präsentieren, was praktisch bedeuten sollte, günstige Umstände für ein adäquates Verständnis und Interpretation der Normen im Kodex zu schaffen, ohne die berechtigten Vorschläge de lege ferenda auszuschließen. Wie in diesem Artikel umrissen wurde, sollte das Ziel einer solchen Aktivität sein, die allseitige Erhellung des zentralen Platzes des Ehesakramentes im Geheimnis (und der Mission) der Kirche durch die Anwendung - als hermeneutischer Schlüssel - des ekklesiologisch wichtigen und wertvollen Communio-Prinzips. Gegenstand der vertieften Untersuchungen konnte eine Prüfung des vorgestellten Postulats sein, um in der Zukunft in die das Eherecht grundlegende Norm c. 1055 § 1 (CIC/1983) den Begriff Communio einzuschließen. Es ist zu vermuten, dass die Realisierung dieses Postulats eine deutliche Betonung der Wahrheit bedeuten konnte, dass das Ehesakrament das Fundament einer „Hauskirche” ist.

Literary versions of the legend of Tristan and Isolde are suitable especially for an analysis of the issues connected with the point of view, particularly if it is understood in the literal, visual meaning, which is here closely associated with the narratological meaning. Lovers are constantly hiding, being followed, then found in the farthest recesses and exposed to gaze of the others, hostile or sympathetic. These gazes decide about their fate; a gaze is therefore an instrument of power, control, and judgment. In the first place, though, a gaze is the instrument of understanding and interpretation, which in many scenes are both shown as complex, problematic and non-obvious. Therefore, the opposition between favorable and hostile gazes is not always so strong: especially the gaze of King Mark, torn between the contradictory feelings for his wife and nephew, is characterized by ambivalence. This ambivalence can also be discerned in the changeable attitudes of some characters, hesitations of narrators and in numerous variants of particular versions of the legend.

Since the publication of "Świat nieprzedstawiony” by J. A. Kornhauser and A. Zagajewski in 1974, its name started to be considered in the Polish language as a synonym of manipulation of news, messages in order to achieve the goal assumptioned by the sender. This method was mastered to perfection by the Catholic newspaper “Nasz Dziennik”, which is a part of the Polish Conglomerate of Redemptorists. Journalists often use the element of fear. It happens that only in one edition there are articles with titles such as “There was no money or good will”, "Ossolineum on the brink of bankruptcy”, "Gas – unsolved problem still”, "People’s veto to Minister Hall”, "Too much coal formation”, “Rostowski will explain himself”, “Restore the right balance”, “School is not a square for elections”, “Mines and plants at the stalemate”, “We won’t give the schools back”, “Someone neglected his duties”, “Researches on human embryos don’t make any sense” or “Pyongyang ignored the ban”. The main topics which are presented as attacks or misfortunes are: attacks of the civil authorities on the Church, the loss of Polish culture, Christianity, the decline of democracy in Poland, Polish enemies grow stronger and obviously Smolensk Distaster. It is difficult to determine how great impact on readers was caused by years of frightening them. Additionally, “Nasz Dziennik” has never published its editions as well as never signed any suitable commitments, which makes it hard to honestly examine the issue of scaring readers. Therefore, the only way to investigate the effectiveness of this medium is to observe how politicians strive for its support.

Modern reality is ambivalent, heterogenous, ambiguous and unpredictable. The living conditions it creates aren’t easy for adolescing people forced to realize many developmental tasks. Among theese tasks is forming a mature vision of reality. This article presents the postmodern view of the world from the perspective of young people, based on research conducted on high school graduates. It shows young people as very reflective, critical towards certain aspects of postmodernity but at the same time, due to highly developed adaptational skills, able to find their place in the world and make use of its possibilities.

Opis:

Inclusive education is being introduced into Poland. To be successful, educators must think critically about disability and learn what the Poles think. Iris Marion Young argues that notions how to criticize a society find their background in either experience or reflection on the society. In 2014 the author read Janina Paradowska’s description of an action by parents who took their disabled children to a sitdown strike in the house of Polish parliament. Paradowska, the late famous Polish journalist, wrote she had mixed feelings about the event. The paper argues the injustice hidden in this phrase, based on the framework of the current view described by Iris Murdoch, who suggests an alternative way of thinking about experiences extending far beyond our mind. Disabled people have always been marginalized by the European culture, and now disabled children are to be part of the inclusive education. What factors might affect their learning?
W 2014 r. ukazał się artykuł Janiny Paradowskiej na temat akcji protestacyjnej rodziców dzieci niepełnosprawnych. Rodzice wraz z dziećmi uczestniczyli w strajku okupacyjnym w budynku polskiego Sejmu. Paradowska napisała, że miała mieszane uczucia na temat tego wydarzenia. Autorka rozważała poczucie niesprawiedliwości ukryte w tym sformułowaniu. Argumentację oparła na modelu współczesnego sposobu myślenia, opracowanego przez Iris Murdoch. Angielska filozof zaproponowała alternatywny sposób myślenia na temat doświadczeń wykraczających poza nasze możliwości zrozumienia. Ludzie niepełnosprawni zawsze byli w Europie marginalizowani, a teraz dzieci niepełnosprawne mają stać się częścią nauczania włączającego. Jakie czynniki mogą mieć wpływ na ich nauczanie?

Research background: Accounting records provide a wide range of data necessary for decisions of the management as well as for users of a company?s financial statements. IFRS represents one of the widely accepted accounting principles, often mentioned in relation to the preparation of high-quality financial statements. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is to identify the factors contributing to the occurrence of misstatements when preparing financial statements under IFRS. The subsequent goal is to identify the possible influences of such misstatements on the users of the financial statements. Methods: The research itself focuses on perceived problems in IFRS application in the Czech Republic. The total tested population is 193 Czech companies preparing their financial statements under IFRS. Descriptive statistics, the chi-square test of independence along with proportional tests, are used for the statistical data analysis. Findings & Value added: The results indicate that, while misstatements in accounting do not occur regularly, a statistical dependence can be shown be-tween the frequency of misstatements occurrence and the average size of mis-statements. The frequency of the subsequently identified misstatements is also proven to be statistically dependent on the average size of misstatements. The IFRS themselves are not proven to influence misstatement occurrences in financial statements, which is in contrast with previous studies. Managerial pressures, similarly to other studies, are proven by the research to be affecting the quality of accounting information. This paper broadens the literature on the factors influencing the quality of financial statements prepared under IFRS and simultaneously reaches conclusions disproving the frequently noted bene-fits of IFRS implementation.

Rozwój praktyk podwykonawstwa uznany jest w literaturze tematu za metodę stymulowania rozwoju małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw oraz jako sposób kreowania okazji rynkowych. Podwykonawstwo tradycyjnie kojarzone jest z relacją dużych i rozwiniętych przedsiębiorstw, często międzynarodowych, z mniejszymi i słabszymi graczami rynkowymi, którzy świadczą usługi podwykonawstwa większym partnerom. Niniejszy artykuł skupia się na podwykonawstwie opartym na obustronnie korzystnej relacji mniejszych podmiotów i prezentuje sytuacje, w których partnerska relacja podwykonawstwa jest okazją przedsiębiorczą. Artykuł przedstawia poszczególne kategorie powodów, dla których małe i średnie przedsiębiorstwa mogą angażować się w partnerskie podwykonawstwo. Opracowanie poddaje analizie podwykonawstwo, odwołując się do teorii przedsiębiorczości okazji jako podstawowej jednostki badawczej tej teorii. Praca omawia determinanty identyfikacji i eksploatacji okazji przedsiębiorczych w kontekście podwykonawstwa oraz przedstawia przedsiębiorczą orientację w podwykonawstwie na przykładzie podwykonawców przetwórstwa rybnego w północno-zachodniej Polsce. Podsumowaniem rozważań jest propozycja modelu badawczego podwykonawstwa przemysłowego oraz egzemplifikacja przedstawionych związków na przykładzie lokalnego przemysłu przetwórstwa rybnego w północno-zachodniej Polsce.
The development of subcontracting practices is often referred to as one of the ways to stimulate the growth of small-scale enterprises and the creation of entrepreneurial opportunities. Most works focus on situations in which the subcontracting firm is of a relatively larger size than the sub-contractor, operating on a larger scale and sometimes being of foreign origin and ownership. On the example of Northwest Poland’s fishing processing industry, this article brings attention to the potential of partnership subcontracting relationship between firms of a small size, arguing that this stream of research deserves to be given more attention. The paper presents various categories of reasons for which firms engage in subcontracting in its productive activities and various situations in which partnership sub-contracting relationships between small scale enterprises are beneficial to both the contractor and the subcontractor. It then turns to opportunity as unit of research as it outlines the potential entrepreneurial opportunities of both subcontracting firms and their subcontractors. The paper concludes with a synthesis of current research in the area of opportunity-based-view of subcontracting and proposes a research model that will hopefully serve to test various relationships in the practice of partnership subcontracting. The theoretical development of the paper is illustrated on the example of fish-processing industry in Northwest Poland region.

Increasing cooperation trends force firms to roll out their strategic management approaches like lean management to their intra- and interorganizational network. Regarding lean management as a people-oriented management approach we argue that a successful roll-out constitutes a learning process comprising the level of individuals (i.e. managers and employees) as one of the most important factors. In this article we aim at recommendations for realizing competitive advantages by an efficient roll-out processes focussing the individual level. Therefore we look at cooperations as social networks. Combining the accepted relational view and social exchange theory we develop a framework for realizing relational rents regarding the individual level. We argue that the individual level acts as an enabler and has the potential to be managed depending on the stage of corporation development. Summing up we suggest the constructs of exchanged resources, individual assets and relationship structures and characteristica to be approaches for an effective management of exchange-relationships.

W artykule została przedstawiona idea stworzenia ciągu spacerowego obejmującego 9 miejsc, z których można obserwować lubelską starówkę. Półtora kilometrowa trasa spacerowa została opracowana w ramach "Studium wartości widokowych miasta Lublin" i nazwana "Szlakiem Panoram Lublina".
The very important aspect of promotion of the city of Lublin is its location and very good conditions for exposing its landscape features. The very interesting is exposition or oldtown built-up area. The article presents design idea for walk path including 9 places offering scenic views towards old-town of Lublin. The 1,5 kilometer long route was designed within the framework of the "Study of visual availability values for Lublin" and is called "Lublin Route of Panoramas".

This article concerns Bronisław Malinowski’s ethnographical theory  of magical word. His theory was a revolutionary one for two reasons (1)  he claimed that magical word is not an instrument of understanding of „primitive mentality” (2) he argued that analysis of magical word  demanded abandoning  of  textual  bias  which  entailed  our  seeing  linguistic  genres  as semantically autonomous texts. Malinowski was not so interested in the question of literacy. He  remarked, though,  that  writing  determinated  our  linguistic  reflection  and  that  magical word, as another oral linguistic genres, demanded a radical rejection of textual conceptions of  meaning,  language and folklore.  Although  Malinowski’s  methodological  stipulations were not always consistent and his rejection of textual bias was fairly half, his abandonment of the conception of „magical world view” which is  a foundation for uses of magic is still up-to-date.

Dans cette quête, trois figures majeures le guideront : le sculpteur Giacometti, le peintre Rembrandt et le funambule Abdellah Bentaga. À travers les oeuvres de ces artistes, Genet découvrira l’identité absolue. Qu’est-ce qui le mena vers cette découverte et quelles conséquences eurent-elles sur l’écrivain ? C’est ce rapport à l’Autre, analysé dans les quatre textes que Genet a écrit sur ces artistes, que nous nous proposons d’interroger dans cet article, notamment à travers le mythe de Narcisse.
The life and work of French author Jean Genet have always been a quest for the ultimate masterpiece. In this quest, three major figures will guide him: the sculptor Giacometti, the painter Rembrandt and the tightrope walker Abdellah Bentaga. Through the works of these artists, Genet will discover the ultimate identity. What drew him to this discovery and which consequences did it have on the writer? It is this relationship to the Other, analyzed in the four texts that Genet wrote about these artists, that we will explore in this article, particularly through the myth of Narcissus.

Ibn Khaldun is a Muslim thinker who lived in North Africa in the Middle Ages. The places where he lived were in a geography where tribal management systems were dominant and political turmoil and wars were never lacking. It is possible to see the traces of the geography and era in which Ibn Khaldun lived in the shaping of his political views. At that time, due to the fact that the tribes were constantly at war with each other, the administrations changed hands frequently, some states were destroyed and some new ones were established in their place. These observations led Ibn Khaldun to liken the life of states to human life. According to him, every state is born, develops and dies just like people. The destruction of states is an inevitable end. Ibn Khaldun has been criticized by some thinkers because of these views. In fact, his book Mukaddime was banned in the Ottoman Empire for a while on the grounds that it led the people to pessimism. This study was created by examining the original works of Ibn Khaldun with the exploratory method and interpreting his views.

And their independent action was even encouraged. Realities and socialistic society changed attained the stage of the «developed socialism». On flight this new society which flew to nowhere, distinctly in a domestic literary process «cut» through and voice of writers-postmodernists, well-disposed to individualism and to principle of noninterference in what be going on.

The article focuses on the ways Wisława Szymborska potrays a mother in her poetic works. The main goal of the analysis is to establish and discuss characteristic features of mother figure and to define the linguistic and stylistic measures Szymborska employs to convey her artistic vision. Additionally, the connotations of mother exposed in Szymborska’s poetry are confronted with the traditional view of maternity to highlight the differences and similarities between a generally accepted stereotype and the artistic vision of the poet. The study shows that the portrayal of mother in Szymborska’s poetry is characterized by a diversity of representation and artistic vibrancy of language used by the artist, who is not confining herself only to dictionary definitions and stereotypes.

El presente trabajo versa sobre las implicaciones que tuvo en la concepción de los muertos el enterramiento. Se muestra así que no sólo la inhumación era la práctica mayoritaria sino que, además, el viaje de cadáver al lugar de los muertos daba inicio con su depósito al interior de la tierra. Tras la salida de la principal entidad anímica, el cuerpo continuaba dotado de volición e intencionalidad y, por consiguiente, las diferentes manipulaciones a las que fuera sometido repercutían directamente en los tipos de relaciones que el muerto mantendría con la sociedad; ya sea para retenerlo o para expulsarlo si se trataba de un ser potencialmente dañino. A su paso por Mictlan, el difunto habría perdido tanto su identidad individual como su función dentro del grupo pero, al mantener sus vínculos con el territorio, terminaría transformándose en una entidad gestora de recursos. Los diferentes desplazamientos de segmentos corporales que atestiguan los contextos arqueológicos muestran que, a través de su división, se debió multiplicar la presencia de los muertos en diferentes espacios significativos. Es así que, a través del contraste entre datos arqueológicos, etnohistóricos y etnográficos, este trabajo muestra que, a través de la manipulación de los cuerpos, la memoria termina por inscribirse en el espacio.

In this paper I have assembled evidence, chiefly from my own field work on a branch of the Northern Ojibwa, which supports the inference that in the metaphysics of being found among these Indians, the action of persons provides the major key to their world view. While in all cultures “persons” comprise one of the major classes of objects to which the self must become oriented, this category of being is by no means limited to human beings. (...) Although not formally abstracted and articulated philosophically, the nature of “persons” is the focal point of Ojibwa ontology and the key to the psychological unity and dynamics of their world outlook. This aspect of their metaphysics of being permeates the content of their cognitive processes: perceiving, remembering, imagining, conceiving, judging, and reasoning.

Artykuł traktuje o różnych sposobach wykonywania analiz widokowych służących ochronie krajobrazu. Celem autora jest przedstawienie szerokiego zakresu wykorzystania wizualizacji stanowiących często punkt wyjściowy do dalszych analiz widoków i następnie do kształtowania zasobów wizualnych. Przedstawiono przykłady współczesnych sposobów analiz umożliwiających prawidłowe zarządzanie zasobami widokowymi odnoszącymi się do różnych form krajobrazów i ich elementów. Uwzględniono zarówno metody analiz na podstawie zdjęć, jak również cyfrowej kartografii, powiązanej niekiedy z trójwymiarowymi modelami terenu i sposobem jego użytkowania. Jak można zauważyć wykorzystanie technik opartych na systemach GIS, cechujących się dużą dokładnością, jest coraz szerzej stosowane w ochronie krajobrazu.
The article discusses the various ways of view analysis, which can be use to protect the landscape. The aim of the author is to focus on the visualization element which is often a starting point for further analysis of the views and can be used to shape the visual environment. The examples of modern methods of analysis, which allow to proper economy of view, refers to different forms of landscapes and their components. It includes both methods of analysis based on images as well as digital cartography, sometimes associated with three-dimensional models of the terrain and the way of its use. As can be seen using techniques based on GIS systems, characterized by high accuracy, is widely used in the protection of the landscape.

But we can also look at Street View images differently. The author of the article analyzes creepypasta stories (anonymous short scary online legends posted on various message boards) that are happening in the visual world created by Google. Agility is a term that is widely used. However, a common understanding of what agility means and what it consists of is missing. Many frameworks have been developed for how to approach agility, but they are very heterogeneous regarding content and structure. This paper approaches the issue by conducting a systematic comparison of 28 available agility frameworks out of the domains of agile manufacturing, agile software development, agile organization, and agile workforce. Altogether, 33 concepts related to agility were identified. The results of the comparison show that, even within the specifically examined domains, a lack of consensus is obvious. In addition, the utilized concepts are very ambiguous and overlapping. As such, the interdependencies between the identified concepts were analyzed in detail. This revealed five recurring “clusters”, each of which combines several concepts with similar content, but despite the amount of available frameworks, none of them reflects these clusters directly. Hence, the study shows that factors beyond the construct of agility are not yet fully uncovered.

W artykule zaprezentowano przykładowe aplety, które zostały przygotowane przez autorów w programie GeoGebra. Część z nich wykorzystano do stworzenia kursu elearningowego Liczby zespolone, używanego na Politechnice Gdańskiej. Inne użyto jako materiały pomocnicze w czasie tradycyjnych zajęć kursowych z matematyki dla pierwszego roku studiów, oraz podczas kursów: przygotowawczego z matematyki do matury i do studiów. Szczególną uwagę chcielibyśmy zwrócić uwagę na aplety, w których wykorzystano widok grafiki 3D, występujący w GeoGebrze od niedawna. Przedstawiliśmy również szereg apletów, w których widok grafiki pełni rolę interfejsu.
Presented article describes examples of applets, which were prepared by the authors in the GeoGebra software. The applets were used to create e-learning course Complex Numbers used at Gdansk University of Technology, as well as supporting educational materials of traditional class activities during first year courses in mathematics. The authors would like to draw particular attention to the applets which were created using 3D graphic view. The 3D view was added to GeoGebra recently. The authors also present a number of applets, where graphic view is served as an interface.

Opis:

Surveillance, nowadays especially provided by information and communication technology, is at the core of social control that has been largely commoditised and privatized. Consumer culture gives hope for freedom lives, challenging the social hierarchies that dominated the earlier – in Bauman’s vocabulary, “solid” – phase of modernity. The aim of this paper is to present two of many tools, which are used by biggest IT companies to keep under surveillance the individuals, societies and nations in the Liquid Modern Times. There has been the socio-cultural context of Internet’s development analyzed to find the premises that led to a transformation of cyberspace from a freedom to a surveillance place, and conducted a case study of Facebook’s facial recognition technology and Google Street View practices. Non-reactive research methods have been used in the paper.

The view on the communication process as a process in which something is communicated (transmitted), is a collective view and as such must be regarded as subject to historical changes. This article aims to analyse the metaphorical conceptualizations, which form part of the collective view, and which are important research subjects of communicology. A new division introduced in the article is the distinction between the pre-theoretical and the theoretical metaphorical conceptualization in relation to communication processes. This procedure allows for an analysis of the relationship between pre-theoretical views (conduit, container metaphor) and theoretical ones (transfer metaphor). The author suggests how the introduction of the diachronic perspective to the study of defining of communication helps to better understand the genesis of the modern understanding of communication practices.

Opis:

Determining the size of source effect of a radiation thermometer is not an easy task and manufacturers of these thermometers usually do not indicate the deviation to the measured temperature due to this effect. It is one of the main uncertainty components when measuring with a radiation thermometer and it may lead to erroneous estimation of the actual temperature of the measured target. We present an empiric model to estimate the magnitude of deviation of the measured temperature with a long-wavelength infrared radiation thermometer due to the size of source effect. The deviation is calculated as a function of the field of view of the thermometer and the diameter of the radiating source. For thermometers whose field of view size at 90% power is approximately equal to the diameter of the radiating source, it was found that this effect may lead to deviations of the measured temperature of up to 6% at 200ºC and up to 14% at 500ºC. Calculations of the temperature deviation with the proposed model are performed as a function of temperature and as a function of the first order component of electrical signal.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse how spatial experience is reformulated into the experience of the mental ‘horizon’, which reveals the process of conceptualization of point de vue (point of view). The review of French dictionaries and discourses from the early 19th century shows the ambiguity and semantic haziness of the term point de vue. It also shows the evolution of the metaphorical use of the term: from spatial experience (the sensory perception of space and location) to a cognitive category (the mental processing). The point de vue becomes in this way a heuristic element introducing an ‘intellectual view’.

Die Kanonistik und Jurisprudenz gehen heute einer ständig wachsen den Krise entgegen, die sich an erster Stelle als eine Krise der Wahrheit darstellt. Die aggressiven Strömungender individualistischen Anti-Kultur, die eine stark säkularisiere Mentalität (Nihilismus und Utilitarismus) kreieren , erlegen den Kanonisten und kirchlichen Richtern einen besonderen Pflicht auf, die humanistischen und religiösen Wërte der Ehe zu promovieren. In der Ansprache vor der Römischen Rota vom 30. Januar 2003 hebt der Papst Johannes Paul II hervor, dass die Ehee in Sakrament ist oder zumindesden heiligen Wesenscharakter des „Anfangs” in sich trägt. Aus diesem Grunde gibt es in der kirchlichen Rechtsordnung keinen Platz für eine immanente und rein weltliche Sicht der Ehe. Diese Aussage des Gesetzgebers wird in seine lehramtlichen Anstrengungen eingeschrieben, um die personalen Aspekte von „matrimonium canonicum” besser zu Geltung zu bringen, welche die völlig realen (keine idealisierten!) Anforderungen der kanonistisch en Disziplin implizieren. Bedeutsam in dieser personal-realistischen Sicht de „totius vitae consortium” ist die Anerkennung einer rechtlichen Relevanz der ehelichen Liebe, derselben Liebe, die den Ehegatten - kraft der sakramentalen Teilhabe in „mysterium Caritatis” - die Würde und Aufgabe erteilt, die Kommunion der Personen von Trinität widerzuspiegeln.

In this article, the image of Russian Orthodox woman is reconstructed. Based on the thoughts of Renata Grzegorczykowa, who looks for causes of failure in the definition of religious language in the specifics of the religious life − which, in her opinion, cannot be clearly and decisively separated from the secular activities – the author postulates an extension of studies on the sacred language in the categories of the linguistic view of the world, i.e. the point of view and perspective in the understanding of Jerzy Bartminski. Acceptance of a particular point of view affects the choice of the content and the form of the concepts presented. The analysis of the concept of a woman is carried out using the material from the Orthodox bi-monthly magazine “Славянка”. The reconstructed image consists of two primary facets: mental features and relationships with family members, as well as four secondary ones: professional activity, education, social activity and appearance. The results of the analyses show that this is a traditional image – a woman is seen as an assistant to her husband, whose task is to support the man in all his activities. The most important value for a woman is the family and its well-being rather than her own aspirations.

Opis:

Podejście zasobowe do organizacji (Resource-based View − RBV) zostało spopularyzowane na początku lat 90. ubiegłego stulecia. Jednocześnie w dalszym ciągu obserwuje się proces kształtowania zasobowej teorii organizacji (Resource-based Theory – RBT). Rosnąca konkurencja wśród podmiotów ochrony zdrowia stanowi przesłankę do wykorzystania założeń RBT w zarządzaniu nimi. Placówki te stają przed koniecznością ciągłej adaptacji do pojawiających się wyzwań, co wydaje się szczególnie trudne dla szpitali publicznych. Ich sukces zależy od posiadania odpowiednich zasobów, kluczowych kompetencji, dynamicznych zdolności, umiejętności uczenia się oraz przewidywania przyszłości, w odpowiedni sposób się do niej przygotowując. Odpowiedzią na rosnącą dynamikę otoczenia jest wspomniane podejście zasobowe oraz zbieżne z nim koncepcje i nurty badawcze tworzące RBT. W artykule skoncentrowano się na możliwości wykorzystania zasobowej teorii organizacji w zarządzaniu szpitalami publicznymi dla skuteczniejszego realizowania ich celów i szybszego dostosowywania się do dynamicznych zmian otoczenia.
The resource-based view (RBV) was popularised in the early 1990s. At the same time, the process of shaping the resource-based theory (RBT) is still observed. The increasing competition among healthcare entities is a prerequisite for using of assumptions of RBT in their management. These organisations are faced with the need of constantly adapting to the occurring challenges, what seems to be particularly difficult for public hospitals. Their success depends on having the adequate resources, core competencies, dynamic capabilities, learning skills, and predicting the future, for preparing to it in a suitable way. The answer to the growing environmental dynamics is the mentioned resource-based view and consistent with it concepts and research streams forming RBT. The article is focused on the possibility of applying the resource-based theory in public hospitals management for more effective aims implementation and faster adaptation to dynamic environmental changes.
Ресурсный подход к организации (resource-based view, RBV) получил широкое распространение в начале 90-х годов прошлого столетия. Одновременно по-прежнему наблюдается процесс формирования ресурсной теории организации (resource-based theor, RBT). Растущая конкуренция среди субъ- ектов здравоохранения представляет собой предпосылку для использования тезисов RBT в управлении ими. Эти заведения стоят перед необходимостью постоянной адаптации к появляющимся вызовам, что кажется особенно труд- ным для публичных больниц. Их успех зависит от наличия соответствующих ресурсов, основных компетенций, динамичных способностей, умения учиться и предусматривать будущее, соответствующим образом готовясь к нему. Ответ на растущую динамику среды – упомянутый ресурсный подход и смеж- ные с ним исследовательские концепции и течения, создающие RBT. В статье сосредоточили внимание на возможности использования ресурсной теории организации в управлении публичными больницами для более результатив- ного достижения их целей и более быстрого приспособления к динамичным изменениям среды.

The paper deals with the problem of representing time in fictional discourse from different perspectives The principle of binary oppositions is used in it to investigate "surface"and "deep" layers of meaning in the text of the short story Ripe Figs by the American writer Kate Chopin. lt is established that the "surface" semantic layer includes the opposition of the key words "ripe" (adult) and " green" (young) as well as the corresponding semantic fields. The "deep" layer of meaning includes an opposition of descńptive-narrative contexts and evaluative textual sequences. the analysis shows that narrative and descriptive sequences are connected with the perception of time by an adult w oman(which may be called "objective fictional time") while evaluative contexts are connected with the perception of time by a teenage girl ("subjective fictional time).

The main task of the research was to investigate and differentiate the historical stages of the formation of Ukraine’s geopolitical view, based on the Ukrainian statehood history and works of key researches, which had been directly influenced by the evolution of its geopolitical consciousness and thinking. In the article, three main historical stages of Ukraine’s geopolitical view formation were differentiated and the reason why the state’s geopolitical view gradually transformed into the state’s geopolitical interest after Ukraine attained independence was substantiated. The article includes a SWOT analysis of Ukraine’s geopolitical location, based on which the state’s geopolitical interests of local, regional and global levels were represented. As Ukraine is in the field of geopolitical orientation of many countries not only in Europe but also around the world, the study of the state’s geopolitical view formation and current transformation is topical and can be useful for foreign researchers.

The main objective of the paper is to verify the vanishing interim regime hypothesis (so-called bipolar view) and to analyse factors that may influence the probability of use of intermediate exchange rate regimes, especially in emerging and developing economies. In order to accomplish the research objectives the evolution of exchange rate regimes is presented with the special consideration of decisions of IMF member states in this respect. Next a logistic regression model that estimates the probability of use of an intermediate regime is applied. The results achieved allow a challenge to the vanishing interim regime hypothesis. Empirical observations support this hypothesis only in advanced countries and not in their emerging and developing peers.

Rola logistyki w zarządzaniu stale rośnie. Podstawą kształtowania i rozwoju koncepcji logistyki jest orientacja na przepływy. Koncepcja ta coraz częściej jest postrzegana jako systemowa determinanta sukcesu i przewagi konkurencyjnej przedsiębiorstwa, zajmująca istotne miejsce we współczesnym zarządzaniu strategicznym. W rozwoju koncepcji logistyki można wskazać pięć faz, umownie nazywanych kolejnymi koncepcjami logistyki: (1) logistyka jako funkcja operacyjnego zarządzania zadaniami i czynnościami logistycznymi, (2) logistyka jako funkcja strategicznego zarządzania procesami i potencjałami logistycznymi, (3) logistyka jako koncepcja przepływowo zorientowanego zarządzania przedsiębiorstwem, (4) logistyka jako koncepcja przepływowo zorientowanego zarządzania łańcuchem dostaw, (5) logistyka jako koncepcja przepływowo zorientowanego zarządzania siecią dostaw. Celem artykułu jest próba identyfikacji i oceny miejsca oraz roli koncepcji logistyki w zasobowym nurcie zarządzania strategicznego. W nurcie tym kluczowe znaczenie jest przypisywane tzw. potencjałom sukcesu przedsiębiorstwa, obejmującym zasoby, zdolności i kompetencje, które wpływają na osiąganie oczekiwanych efektów rynkowo-ekonomicznych przez przedsiębiorstwo, będących podstawą tworzenia jego przewagi konkurencyjnej.
The role of logistics within business management is still growing. The basis for shaping and developing the logistics concept is the flow orientation. The logistics concept is more and more often perceived as a systemic factor affecting business success as well as firm competitive advantage. Such logistics concept occupies an important place in contemporary strategic management. Within the logistics concept development one may notice five stages (referred to as the consecutive logistics concepts): (1) logistics as a function of operational management of logistics tasks and activities, (2) logistics as a function of strategic management of logistics processes and potentials, (3) logistics as a concept of flow-oriented management within the firm, (4) logistics as a concept of flow-oriented management within the supply chain, (5) logistics as a concept of floworiented management within the supply network. The aim of the article is to identify and evaluate the place and role of logistics concept within the resource stream of strategic management. Within this stream, the key role is assigned to the so-called business success potentials, comprising resources, capabilities and competences, affecting the expected market and economic outcomes achievement by the firm, which are the basis for business competitive advantage creation.

The purpose of this research is to show the comparison of Resource-based view, Human capital, stakeholder as alternative theories and Balanced Scorecards (BSCs). Resource-Based View (RBV) appears to be limited with narrow implications as the strategic roles. RBV is forced on the internal organisation of a firm and it does not consider the external factors like the demand side of the market. A firm or an organisation may have the resources and the capabilities to gain a competitive advantage but still have no demand. RBV is not explicit on how particular market-based assets and capabilities contribute to generating and sustaining specific form of customer values. Accordingly, Human Capital theory (HC) assumes education increases productivity in the organisation, resulting in higher individual wages, but failed to provide adequate insight into the process through which education training are translated into higher wages. High level of educational attainment and quality may not potentially yield greater productivity and wages across the board. In the same vein, stakeholder theory has no learning and growth perspective required in the 21st century business but provides managers with clear mission and facilitates decision making. Balanced Scorecards (BSCs) has four perspectives: Financial, Customer, Internal development and Learning and growth perspective. It sets priorities by identifying, rationalising and aligning initiatives. The broad aim of this study is to shed light on limitations of these theories. The paper intends to identify future research questions that would help to remove fundamental barriers to pave the way to the company-wide performance in Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs): does BSC or alternative theory add significant value to SMEs? If it does add value, how does it enhance the performance of SMEs in emerging economies?

The acceleration of the dynamic microobjects (MO) movement, the motion of which is accelerated uniformly or non-uniformly is an important task for television measuring systems. Most existing measuring systems usually have a small range of acceleration with a short period of growth. Such period of growth of the acceleration is characteristic for many dynamic MO. Better instruments to determine the non-uniform velocity of the various objects are based on various laser devices. These instruments are contactless and high-speed enough. In the paper the basics of the television scanning optical microscope (TSOM) are presented. In the Chapter 2 the schematic diagram of the TSOM and its main functionalities are pointed out. In the Chapter 3 an adaptation of the TSOM for movement acceleration of microobjects is discussed. Modified structural and functional diagram of the instrument is presented.

The first part of the article presents the history of the development of the principle of viewpoints starting from its illustrative and static perception, and ending with its contemporary, interactive use. In the second part, referring to our own research, we describe and analyze the contemporary use of the principle of viewpoint during extracurricular mathematical classes organized for pre-school and younger school children. The essence of the contemporary use of the principle of objectivity is the intentional and skilful use of didactic means while shaping the mathematical concepts of students. Attention was paid to the fact that children were provided with conditions free and without time pressure to experiment with mathematical objects, the ability to agree their observations and discoveries with their peers, the teacher.

Opis:

The author discusses the question of the so-called zero viewpoint in the context of the presence of epic elements in the dramatic text. Using the category of perspective in her study, she observes that one of the characteristic features of drama is the intersection of dramatic background and the protagonist’s perspective. Contrary to the traditionally accepted view, the author argues that it is natural for drama to position the addressee not simply outside or inside the dramatic microcosm but at the point of a permanent intersection of these two lines. It is this moment of overlap between the extra- and intra-textual perspectives that she defines as the zero viewpoint. The variety of solutions by means of which this perspective can be achieved is demonstrated on excerpts she analyses from Bolesław Leśmian’s The Possessed Fiddler, Tadeusz Różewicz’s The Trap, and Marian Pankowski’s Camping Rough.

Background: Traditionally, machine learning algorithms have been simply applied for software defect prediction by considering single-view data, meaning the input data contains a single feature vector. Nevertheless, different software engineering data sources may include multiple and partially independent information, which makes the standard single-view approaches ineffective. Objective: In order to overcome the single-view limitation in the current studies, this article proposes the usage of a multi-view learning method for software defect classification problems. Method: The Multi-View k-Nearest Neighbors (MVKNN) method was used in the software engineering field. In this method, first, base classifiers are constructed to learn from each view, and then classifiers are combined to create a robust multi-view model. Results: In the experimental studies, our algorithm (MVKNN) is compared with the standard k-nearest neighbors (KNN) algorithm on 50 datasets obtained from different software bug repositories. The experimental results demonstrate that the MVKNN method outperformed KNN on most of the datasets in terms of accuracy. The average accuracy values of MVKNN are 86.59%, 88.09%, and 83.10% for the NASA MDP, Softlab, and OSSP datasets, respectively. Conclusion: The results show that using multiple views (MVKNN) can usually improve classification accuracy compared to a single-view strategy (KNN) for software defect prediction.

Walkability entails measuring the degree of walking activity, a non-motorized mode of active transportation crucial in fast-developing urban settings and combating sedentary lifestyles. While there has been extensive objective research focusing on factors related to the physical environment that influence walkability, there has been a comparatively limited exploration into objectively evaluating a pedestrian’s visual perception. This study in Khulna, Bangladesh, aimed to develop a novel method for objectively measuring walkability based on pedestrian-level visual perception using machine learning. In this research, ResNet, a computer vision model, analyzed 127 panoramic Google Street View images taken at 200-meter intervals from seven major roads. The model, trained with the “deeplabv3plusResnet18CamVid” algorithm, quantified five selected visual features. The results, including walkability rankings, correlation analysis, and spatial mapping, highlighted that greenery and visual enclosures significantly influenced the walkability index. However, the impact of other visual features was less distinctive due to an overall poor streetscape condition. This study bridged the gap between human perception and scientific intelligence, allowing for the evaluation of previously “unmeasurable” streetscape designs. It provides valuable insights for more human-centered planning and transportation strategies, addressing the challenges of modern urbanization and sedentary behavior.

Artykuł przedstawia charakterystykę medialnego obrazu osób z zaburzeniami psychicznymi sporządzoną na podstawie analizy treści i narracji 403 tekstów opublikowanych w polskich dziennikach w 2015 roku. Wykazano w niej, że osoby chorujące psychicznie przeważnie są prezentowane w negatywnych kontekstach lub w celu metaforycznego przedstawienia jakiegoś zachowania jako nielogicznego lub ryzykownego. The article in which people with mental disorders are being presented in the media. The study is based on content analysis of 403 press materials which were publicized in Polish newspapers in 2015. The author concludes that press expose mental disorders mainly in negative context or as a metaphor for something illogical or risky. The main image of mentally deranged people is usually twofold: they are either very emotional and illogical or overly intellectual and emotionless.

Opis:

In the paper, two preprocessing methods for virtual view synthesis are presented. In the first approach, both horizontal and vertical resolutions of the real views and the corresponding depth maps are doubled in order to perform view synthesis on images with densely arranged points. In the second method, real views are filtered in order to eliminate blurred or improperly shifted edges of the objects. Both methods are performed prior to synthesis, thus they may be applied to different Depth-Image-Based Rendering algorithms. In the paper, for both proposed methods, the achieved quality gains are presented.

Opis:

Road traffic injuries are a leading cause of death worldwide. Proper estimation of car accident risk is critical for the appropriate allocation of resources in healthcare, insurance, civil engineering and other industries. We show how images of houses are predictive of car accidents. We analyse 20,000 addresses of insurance company clients, collect a corresponding house image using Google Street View and annotate house features such as age, type and condition. We find that this information substantially improves car accident risk prediction compared to the state-of-the-art risk model of the insurance company and could be used for price discrimination. From this perspective, the public availability of house images raises legal and social concerns, as they can be a proxy of ethnicity, religion and other sensitive data.

A linguistic picture of the world is such a vision of reality existing in the minds of people forming a language community which is fixed in words. The results of empirical research presented in this paper lead to the conclusion that no elements of the so-called striptease culture or confessing culture, or the phenomena of de-tabooisation or eroticisation, perceived as inherent traits of the contemporary mass culture, are observed within the love and eroticism prototypes – components of the linguistic world view of the women in early adulthood examined in this study.
Językowy obraz świata stanowi utrwaloną w słowach taką wizję rzeczywistości, jaka istnieje w świadomości osób stanowiących wspólnotę językową. Zaprezentowane w niniejszym tekście wyniki badań empirycznych prowadzą do spostrzeżenia, iż w obrębie prototypu zarówno miłości, jak i erotyzmu – wycinków językowego obrazu świata objętych badaniami kobiet w wieku wczesnej dorosłości – nie zauważa się ani elementów tzw. kultury obnażania czy kultury zwierzeń, ani zjawiska detabuizacji i zerotyzowania, które są postrzegane jako immanentne właściwości współczesnej kultury masowej.

The article offers a brief overview of the most prominent landmarks in the development of Cognitive Linguistics. It starts with the very inception of the field in the late 70s as a strong reaction against a doctrine of generative linguistics dominating at that time. Later the paper describes the cornerstone theories which were at the onset of this linguistic enterprise. From the very beginning the movement was rather diverse and still cannot be defined as one unified theory; however, there has always been one common factor in its approaches which is the centrality of meaning in language study. The works of the second wave of cognitive linguists, which are also outlined in the article, focused even more increasingly on cognitive functions providing insights into the nature and organization of human thoughts. Nowadays the postulates of Cognitive Linguistics are applied not only to all levels of language study but extended to other scientific areas.

The paper examines the perspecitivity potential of German articles within the framework of cognitive linguistics. According to Langacker’s cognitive grammar, one of meaning components resulting from subjective scene construal is perspective. Perspective is understood as the viewing arrangement of a conceptualized scene. Its main components are subjecitivity/objectivity, that describe the relation between the subject and the object of conceptualization and the vantage point/the point of view defined as the mental position from which the scene is viewed. The analysis focuses on the use of definite and indefinite articles, on the choice of nouns and pronouns and on the function of tenses as grammatical correlates of different perspectivation strategies in narrative and humorous texts.

The main purpose of the article is to try and locate the meeting points, but also the substantial discrepancies developed in the course of history, the aesthetics which devises its own notion of landscape and the empirical sciences, humanist geography in particular, which resorts to a broader understanding, incorporating it into the notion of environment. By drawing upon the Renaissance idea of landscape, I point to three factors: landscape painting along with the perspective, theatre and the development of cartography, which significantly contributed to the evolution of an aesthetic notion of landscape. The environmental aesthetics may however play a conciliatory role between the traditional, aesthetic presentation and the standpoint of humanist geography, if one takes into account the assumptions of the latter in terms of shaping the renewed cultural notion of landscape.

The article is exposing some results of the study in bee-keepers’ spell as a featuring trait of Ukrainians’ world-view practice; the present research is the first work of such a kind in the home ethnology. The spell belongs to that sort of ritual text that might be characterized by a vivid and most active speech with its fully evident magical strength. Spell as a genre of folklore refers to peculiar items owing to its archaic nature as well as to utilitarian functionalism, especially verbal destination, unity of sacral and profane articulation. The world-view ground of spell has been always heterogeneous as that originated and developed through the ages  with  fixing  so  prime  of  human world-consciousness  as  historically  later  (Christian) epistemological and axiological picture of the reality. In the paper the bee-keepers’ spell has been  considered  because  of  its  religious  and magical  contents  that  has  quite  significant spread so in everyday bee-keeping practice (occasional aspect), as in the contents of yearly religious  festivals  (the  calendar  one).  The  aim  of  bee-keepers’  spell  has   been  getting a concrete practical result, i.e. successful functioning of apiary.

This paper deals with the motifs of eroticism in the story Lilika by Dragoslav Mihailović, in the context of the growing up and maturing of the young ten-year-old heroine. The erotic in this story is brought down to the level of pornography – animal instincts in the scenes of the girl’s drunken mother and stepfather grabbing each other by the arms and legs in front of the child, slipping hands under the skirt, chasing each other with knives and pushing their tongues into each other’s mouth. They stretch the sphere of eroticism to extremes, which is, in this case, thanatically tainted. And such a bestial life that is led by the stepfather and the mother is not far from true violence over the ten-year-old girl, who is beaten and tied to a bed by the parents; and apart from the physical abuse, whose effects are frequent blood spots and bruises under Lilika’s eyes and uncontrolled night urination, there is an additional passive kind of violence towards the girl – ignoring and neglecting her. In a series of circumstances in which she finds herself unwillingly, there forms an inner framework of the heroine’s unhappy childhood, whose basic problem was posed already at her very birth, and it is the question of her identity.

To the history of the ancient family names format on of modern Belarus arealThe aim of the article is investigation of the ancient family names formation of the modern Belarus areal covering three aspects: areal topological, comparatively historical and lingua cultural.The Object Subject of the article is the etymological reconstruction of the anthroponymycal archetypes, cultural possibilities and modes of ancient family names conceptualization. We understand the term “ancient family names” as family naming in the XIV–XV centuries when this territory belong to the Great Principality of Lithuania. We attributed to the ancient family names’ nuclear composite and formed out of them short onomastic units that go back, regarding X. Krae, to the ancient European areal. Many anthroponymycal roots entering into the composition of ancient complex names are referred by investigators to the category of relict proper names.Methods of investigation is areal‑typological, comparatively‑historical and descriptive. Some methods of onomastic investigation such as etymological, structural and word‑formative analysis were also used.The scientific novelty of the investigation lies in the fact that we propose the concept of the ancient family names formation in Belarus areal in the context of the formation of the European anthroponymycal systems; singled out and systematize the corpus of ancient anthroponymycal and toponymycal lexemes of investigated areal and their etymological conceptual analysis was carried out.

Application of GPS Common View method in remote comparison of time and frequency standards located in COMW and GUM is presented in the article. Results covers 6-month interval. The article aims to analyse four important point of view novels, namely Henry James’ The Ambassadors, Zasypie wszystko, zawieje [Everything Will Be Covered by the Snow] by Włodzimierz Odojewski, The Flanders Road by Claude Simon, and Morfina [Morphine] by Szczepan Twardoch. The notion of point of view serves as a starting point for considering the epistemological aspects of the novel and for tracing its evolution. James, both in his theory and novelistic practice, uses the point of view to make the character’s consciousness the main theme of his novels. Odojewski employs internal monologue to render the characters’ perspective, while Simon combines internal monologue with other voices. Finally, Twardoch’s novel can be interpreted as a parody of the point of view technique.

The paper introduces the concept of tableau as articulated by film history and theory, with examples from the films of Roy Andersson, Jean-Luc Godard and Lars von Trier. A lesser known tradition, the bonnet view originates from Kelly Reichardt’s western Meek’s Cutoff which set out to tell the story from “the point of view of the woman who pours John Wayne’s coffee.” By replacing generic conventions, notably the customary widescreen with a square-like image, Meek’s Cutoff conveys the visual and social restrictions signified by women’s bonnets. In the first part of the paper, Azzouni’s derivation–indicator view was presented. In the second part it is analyzed in a detailed way. It is shown, that many problems arise, which cannot be explained in a satisfactory way in Azzouni’s theory, in particular the problem of the explanatory role of proof, of its epistemic role; the relationship between first–order and second–order versions of proofs is also not clear. It is concluded, that Azzouni’s theory does not provide a satisfactory account of mathematical proof, but inspires an interesting discussion. In the article, some of the mentioned problems are discussed.

The aim of the article is to analyse Ryszard Sarkowicz’s theory of the levels of interpretation of a legal text. On the one hand, this theory is aptly indicated as one of the most original and valuable achievements of the Polish theory of law. On the other hand – quite paradoxically – it is extremely rarely discussed. In my article, I show one element of the tension that you can see in the description of what Sarkowicz calls the descriptive level of interpretation. It seems that sometimes this level is associated only with the external perspective, while at other times, it is associated with external and internal ones. In the following subsections, I present arguments for the second of these ideas. At the end of the article, I show a consequence of this choice. It involves transforming the concept by distinguishing an additional level of interpretation – a descriptive one, from the internal point of view.
Celem artykułu jest analiza wypracowanej przez Ryszarda Sarkowicza koncepcji poziomowej interpretacji tekstu prawnego. Teoria ta z jednej strony trafnie jest wskazywana jako jedno z bardziej oryginalnych i cennych dokonań polskiej teorii prawa, z drugiej zaś – nieco paradoksalnie – jest ona niezwykle rzadko dyskutowana. W swoim artykule pokazuję pewną niejasność, jaka wkrada się do opisu tego, co R. Sarkowicz nazywa deskryptywnym poziomem interpretacji. Otóż wydaje się, że poziom ten czasami wiązany jest tylko z perspektywą zewnętrzną, a czasami z zewnętrzną i wewnętrzną. W kolejnych podrozdziałach przedstawiam argumenty przemawiające na rzecz zasadności przyjęcia drugiego ze wskazanych ujęć. W konkluzji artykułu pokazuję konsekwencję wyboru takiego rozwiązania. Polega ona na przekształceniu koncepcji poprzez wyróżnienie dodatkowego poziomu interpretacyjnego – deskryptywnego w perspektywie wewnętrznej.

The meaning of emotions and the meaning of words- emotions’ labels are described in studiem about emotions. Although there are some differences between these two domains, most studies about understanding emotions use lexical approach. On the other hand, the nonspecific limits inspired by language can be noticed in the area of changes in emotion meaning. Two studies were conducted and metaheuristic postulates were involved with the aim of breaking these limits. The denotation and emotional complexity were examined/analyzed in the first study. In the second study the atypical connotations taken from the psychology of creativity were used. The outcomes were discussed in relation to abstraction and metaphor as a result it is possible to go beyond literal understanding of emotions and express emotions verbally.

W artykule szczegółowo przedstawiono znaczenie elektrofizjologicznych sygnałów narządu wzroku oraz zasady ich pozyskiwania. Omówiono najczęściej przeprowadzane badania, opisano rodzaj i miejsce aplikacji elektrod pomiarowych. Przedstawiono charakterystyki diagnostyczne otrzymane podczas badań elektrofizjologicznych oraz omówiono praktyczne wykorzystanie tych badań w diagnozowaniu schorzeń narządu wzroku.
The interdisciplinary aspects of measurements and processing of electrophysiological signals of the vision organ, are presented. Examinations based on non-invasive measurements of electrical potentials are described, including visual evoked potentials (VEP) and electroretinography (ERG). Electrophysiological signals of the vision organ and procedures of their acquisition, are presented in details. The diagnostic characteristics obtained from electrophysiological examinations are presented, as well as the practical application in the diagnosis of the vision organ pathology, is described.

Renzi shows how literature (or more generally: art) and life intertwine. By analysing fragments of Proust’s famous novel as well as his records and letters, the author presents the French writer as an avid fan of Vermeer’s paintings. He also touches upon the history of the influence of the Dutch painter on Proust’s works.

The article examines the notion of point of view (POV) in translation by drawing on examples from selected Polish translations of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado. First, the paper deals with the question of narratologically-oriented research in translation studies and outlines a short history of the concept of point of view with an overview of definitions proposed by literary scholars. It is argued that recent linguistic analyses of point of view have contributed to examining the notion of POV in literary translations. The article also systematises different research approaches that have been developed to study “point of view in translation.” Finally, the paper follows the linguistically-oriented conception of point of view in order to examine translation shifts with regard to the linguistic indicators of POV, including time markers and modality, based on examples from Polish translations of Poe’s short story.

The article describes the linguistic mechanisms that create an image of Szczecin in the novel Bambino by Inga Iwasiów. The subject of examination are lexical and phraseological forms and word interactions which present an image of the city in three dimensions: spatial, social and both: historical and cultural. This lexical and semantic circle was made up by the names, usage of selected colloquial lexemes and non-standard verbal collocations. Linguistic mechanisms are various and contain also specifi c evaluation of used forms. The article is concluded with the observation that linguistic creation of Szczecin in analyzed novel is a multiaspectual and subjective construction.

About meaning and interpretation through the prism of the translinguistic issue of the view point Based on Ducrot’s speaker/utterer distinction, the present paper examines interpretation at the center of studies on meaning, on the basis of choices of exophoric references and of order of words predications made by the initial speaker/utterer according to his/her own point of view (POV) or to points of view that are coreferential to secondary utterers. This issue concerns all levels of organization of languages, from words to utterances and actual texts/discourses. Beside highlighting the predication referents and their truth conditions, it emphasizes the underlying speech acts and modal values. The paper identifies in French texts the sources of the POV, their forms (incipient, represented, asserted POV) and especially their confrontation, within a dialogic framework.

Mathematicians use theological metaphors when they talk in the kitchen of mathematics. How essential is this talk? Have theological considerations and religious concepts influenced mathematics? Can mathematical models illuminate theology? Some authors have given positive answers to these questions, but they do not seem final. It is unclear how religious views influenced the work of those mathematicians who were also theologians. Religious background of some mathematical concepts could have been inessential. Mathematical models in theology have no predictive value. It is, however, important to continue the recently initiated search for the mutual influences of mathematics and theology. Research background: SMEs' concern for the digital literacy of their workforce, their interest in increasing digital literacy among employees, and securing their digital platforms, have been major issues in their digital transformation process. To reduce those obstacles, the dynamic capabilities of SMEs included in the Resource-based View (RBV) might be an effective solution since they help companies be more competitive and proactive against the threats they face in the digitalization process. Purpose of the article: This research aims to investigate whether SMEs' dynamic capabilities positively contribute to their digital transformation process. Methods: In line with the proposed relationships, this paper analyzes SMEs from Czechia by running Ordinal Logistic Regression analyses. The research sample is created by stratified random sampling and purposive sampling methods. The research data is collected via telephone surveys. Findings & value added: This research does not find a positive relationship between the dynamic capabilities of SMEs and the digital transformation process. While the results related to digital literacy are negatively associated with digital transformation, no significant relationship exists between security actions and the digital transformation of SMEs. This paper extends the scope of RBV on the digital transformation of SMEs by analyzing various dynamic capabilities of SMEs that have not been included in a sole study. Moreover, the perceptions of SME executives are considered by this research to provide effective solutions for the problems they face in digital transformation. Having a joint venture agreement with well-experienced IT companies, having a network with partner firms, looking for funding opportunities in the EU, participating in some practical training, and providing internships for bachelor students might enable SMEs to hit their targets in digital transformation.

The binding Public Finance Act introduces the principle of openness of public funds management (the openness in the narrow sense). It enters as a lex specialis, into the broad principle of public finance openness. The source of the latter is the Constitution and numerous acts. Until now, the science of financial law has focused on the principle of openness in the narrow sense. The aim of the article is to present arguments for the importance of the principle of public finances in a broad sense and the need for its specific protection.

The goal of this paper is to identify and criticize an intuitive way of thinking about gaps in the law, which I dub “the input view”. In this approach, legal gaps play the role of premises in legal reasoning in the sense that they trigger the application of, otherwise impermissible, methods of interpretation. The input view thus rests on a sharp distinction between the following two stages of legal interpretation: identification of a legal gap and filling it. The central motivation for embracing this view is to limit the scope of judicial discretion. I argue that the input view fails by its own lights by showing a class of cases in which it actually increases the scope of judicial discretion. My argument exploits the observation that, on any account of legal gaps available to the proponent of the input view, there will be cases in which a judge has discretion to say whether it involves a legal gap or not.
Celem niniejszego tekstu jest identyfikacja oraz krytyka intuicyjnego sposobu myślenia o lukach prawnych, który określam mianem „przesłankowego ujęcia”. Na gruncie tego podejścia, luki prawne odgrywają rolę przesłanek w rozumowaniu prawniczym – wystąpienie luki stanowi okoliczność warunkującą zastosowanie, niedopuszczalnych w innych okolicznościach, nieformalistycznych metod interpretacji prawniczej. Ujęcie przesłankowe opiera się zatem na ścisłym rozgraniczeniu dwóch etapów interpretacji prawniczej: etapu identyfikacji luki oraz etapu jej wypełniania. Główną motywacją dla tego poglądu jest chęć ograniczenia dyskrecjonalności sędziowskiej. W niniejszym tekście stawiam tezę, że ujęcie przesłankowe nie jest w stanie podołać temu zadaniu, ponieważ istnieje klasa przypadków, w których prowadzi ono do poszerzenia zakresu dyskrecjonalności sędziowskiej. Mój argument korzysta z obserwacji, że – niezależnie od przyjętego ujęcia luk prawnych – formalista zmuszony będzie przyznać istnienie stanów faktycznych, w których decyzja, czy mamy do czynienia z luką prawną, leży w zakresie władzy dyskrecjonalnej sędziego.

Opis:

The purpose of the article was to give an overview of conception, nosology, ways of treatment of depression from the origins of humanity. The evolution of psychiatric thoughts, rivalising theories approaching from mysticism and rational seeking biological grounds of depression, to descriptions of features, systemization and common classification development, DSM-IV and ICD-10 covering internal, external and psychogenic causes has been shown. The first reference about the mood insanity comes from ancient times. The Hippocratic conception describes biological ground of depression occurring due to excess of one of four humours. The conception, although frequently changed, survived through the next centuries, still exists in contemporary way of understanding of internal causes. The scientist introduced the term “melancholy” which until the beginning of the XIX century has been characterizing mood diseases, covered temperament, insanity states and periodic mood changes. In the XIX and XX centuries Kraepelin, describing the whole group of affective insanities used the term of manic-depressive psychosis. This conception was revised in the XX century by Kleinst and Leonardo. In the XX century new classification systems were built, actually functioning as DSM-IV and ICD-10. In explaining of the genesis of melancholy the scientists regarded to chemistry and physics. Burton also suggested family source of depression and Perfect accorded to congenital factors. Psychoanalytic approach of Freud shows early childhood psychical nature conflict impact, the influence of separation process and uncovered needs. Nowadays in the etiology of depression biological, genetical and psychological factors are concerned. The evolution of treatment ways starts from magic, herbs, diet, massages, physical activity, through opium, laudanum, electroshock therapy to actual pharmacology.
Celem niniejszej pracy było prześledzenie na przestrzeni historii ludzkości rozwoju poglądów, nazewnictwa, sposobów leczenia depresji. Chronologicznie przedstawiono ewolucję myśli psychiatrycznej, konkurencyjne teorie, podążające od mistycyzmu i racjonalnego odnajdywania biologicznego podłoża depresji do wyodrębniania objawów, dokonywania podziałów i tworzenia współczesnych klasyfikacji DSM-IV i ICD-10, obejmujących przyczyny endogenne, egzogenne i psychogenne. Pierwsze doniesienia na temat zaburzeń nastroju pochodzą z czasów starożytnych. Hipokrates wskazywał na biologiczne podłoże depresji wynikające z przewagi jednego z czterech płynów wewnątrzustrojowych. Pogląd ten, choć w zmienianej postaci, przetrwał kolejne wieki, aktualny jest we współczesnym rozumieniu jej endogennych przyczyn. Uczony wprowadził termin „melancholia”, który aż do początków XIX w. opisywał schorzenia nastroju, obejmował temperament, stany chorobowe i okresowe zmiany nastroju. W XIX i XX w. Kraepelin, opisując ogół schorzeń afektywnych, stosował termin „psychozy maniakalno-depresyjne”. Pogląd ten zrewidowano w XX w. za sprawą doniesień Kleista i Leonarda. W XX w. tworzono systemy klasyfikacyjne aktualnie funkcjonujące jako DSM-IV i ICD-10. W wyjaśnianiu patogenezy melancholii uczeni odwoływali się do zasad chemii i fizyki. Burton wskazywał na rodzinne podłoże depresji, a Perfect na rolę czynników wrodzonych. Psychoanalityczne podejście Freuda odwołuje się do udziału wczesnodziecięcych konfliktów natury psychicznej, roli procesu separacji i niezaspokojonych potrzeb. Współcześnie w etiologii zaburzeń depresyjnych uwzględnia się czynniki biologiczne, genetyczne, psychologiczne. W leczeniu najpierw stosowano magię i zioła, następnie dietę, masaże, aktywność fizyczną, opium, laudanum, elektrowstrząsy, obecnie terapia opiera się na środkach farmakologicznych.

The aim of the study is to answer the question of how a slight change in the actuarial assumptions (regarding the discount rate used) can affect the amount of the provisions, and consequently create the level of costs in the entity. In order to find the answer the financial statements of 148 stockexchange- quoted companies from 2007 to 2014 (1184 financial statements in total) were analysed, determining whether the changes in long-term provisions for retirement benefits provisions (due to the use of a different discount) have a significant impact on the financial statements of these companies. The research involved the use of deductive-inductive research methods in the form of literature review and analysis of the content of financial statements. The obtained results indicate that the estimation of the discount rate significantly affects the levels of costs related to creating provisions, which may be an effective tool for manipulating the financial result.

In this text I have taken up a reflection upon one of the most important works by J.J. Rousseau, “Confessions”. The book is considered to belong to personal literature, so I treated it as an autobiographical narration. In the methodological research I used both the category of a linguistic view of the world and the category of constructing an identity in the linguistic and cognitive analysis. On the one hand Rousseau’s work can be considered as an autobiographical narrative, but on the other hand it can be treated as fiction. And it is the dualism of construction that allows the interpretation of the text in many ways, formal or poetic, as well as referring to the writer’s life. I recommend reading Rousseau’ s biography again in order to see the intersection of history and fictitious reality, to reconstruct the linguistic strategy of giving meaning by J.J. Rousseau in constructing “Confessions” as well as in constructing identity.

Opis:

The aim of the article is to analyse the particularity of second-person narratives in non-fiction. Their special status results from the fact that telling another person his or her own story is a convention in fiction but occurs rarely in everyday communication. In non-fiction narratives, the problem of different perspectives (of the narrator and the addressee) is particularly valid, i.e. often the point of view of the narrative “you” is only a disguised point of view of the “I.” The analysis of A Man by Oriana Fallaci shows the shift from the melting of perspectives to an evident distance. In Hanna Krall’s Hamlet, the “I” presents the “you” with an ultimate interpretation of his life.

Tematyka artykułu sytuuje się w obszarze krytyki przekładu literackiego. Jego celem jest analiza korelacji między wyborami translatorskimi na poziomie jednostek języka a funkcjonowaniem struktury tekstowej wyższego rzędu, jaką jest sekwencja deskryptywna wbudowana w opowiadanie. Zastosowana metodologia łączy w sobie narzędzia literaturoznawcze i językoznawcze, co uznano za konieczne, biorąc pod uwagę naturę badanego dwutekstu literackiego. Następstwem takiej perspektywy jest fakt skoncentrowania analiz wokół dwu obszarów kluczowych dla przekładu powieści Terrasse à Rome Pascala Quignarda: wyznaczników leksykalnych punktu widzenia narratora oraz dynamiki sekwencji opisowej. Na ostatnie zagadnienie składają się zjawiska takie jak : międzyzdaniowe relacje spójnościowe, predykaty werbalne, stylistyczna funkcjonalność form czasowych oraz zależność między dystrybucją funkcji składniowych i semantycznych. Przeprowadzone analizy porównawcze uprawniają do podważenia statusu opisu jako struktury wtórnej w stosunku do opowiadania, nieposiadającej charakterystycznych dla siebie środków organizacji tekstowej. Ponadto poczynione obserwacje dowodzą, że nawet drobne z pozoru interwencje tłumacza uwidaczniające się np. w eliminacji pojedynczych czasowników czy w zmianie sposobu łączliwości zdań skutkują znacznymi przesunięciami na poziomie stylu sekwencji opisowych w stosunku do oryginału. Powyższe stwierdzenia skłaniają do upatrywania w tej makrostrukturze wypowiedzi narracyjnej uprzywilejowanego miejsca tekstowego, pozwalającego dostrzec indywidualną poetycką wizję świata zamkniętą przez pisarza/tłumacza w zaproponowanych środkach stylistycznych.

Artykuł jest próbą podjęcia refleksji nad zjawiskiem nie-ludzkiej fotografii. Punktem wyjścia tekstu jest zwrócenie uwagi na fakt, że w dobie automatyzacji procesu fotografowania, zdjęcia wykonywane przez człowieka są tylko jednym z wymiarów współczesnej fotografii. Artykuł jest analizą projektów artystycznych Jona Rafmana i Michaela Wolfa, którzy wykorzystują fotografie wykonane przez automatyczne aparaty Google Street View. Eksponowanie pęknięć, szczelin i błędów tego systemu zbliża ich twórczość do tzw. glitch artu. Ważnym aspektem podejmowanej analizy jest refleksja nad wyobrażeniami związanymi z nie-ludzkim spojrzeniem, pytanie o prawdę fotografii oraz o to, w jaki sposób zbudowany jest interfejs Google Street View.
The article is an attempt to reflect on the phenomenon of non-human photography. The starting point of the text is noticing that because of the automatization of the photographing process, the photography created by humans is merely one of the fields of contemporary photography. The article is an analysis of Jon Rafman’s and Michael Wolf’s artistic projects in which they utilize images created by automatic Google Street View cameras. Artists expose cracks, gaps and errors of this system, bringing their projects close to the field of glitch art. The vital aspects of the analysis are its reflection on the notion of non-human gaze, its questioning of the truthfulness of the photography, and its examination of how the Google Street View interface is constructed.
