Opis:
Damage detection based on structural dynamic characteristics, such as natural frequencies and mode shapes, is an important area of research. Obtaining accurate structural dynamic characteristics is perhaps the most challenging aspect. In particular, changes in environmental temperature due to seasonal weather or radiation from sunshine leads to changes in the dynamic characteristics of structures. An important conclusion is that changes in the dynamic characteristics of a structure due to damage may be smaller than changes in the dynamic characteristics due to variations in temperature. Also, damage can affect the frequency response. This is the first study of evaluation of the effect of changes in temperature and multiple damages on natural frequency at the same time. In this paper, the simultaneous effect of the multiple defects and temperature on the natural frequencies of 6063 aluminum alloy beam are assessed numerically. ABAQUS finite element software is used for the numerical analysis. The present paper aims to evaluate the temperature effect and multiple damages on vibration responses. The variations in the frequency have been analysed in simulation by using an aluminum specimen and obtaining impedance signatures at temperatures ranging from −200◦C to 204◦C. The results show that an increase in temperature leads to a decrease in structural frequency, and that a decrease in temperature leads to an increase in structural frequency. The evaluation of the effect of multiple defects on natural frequency shows that when damages are created in the structure, there is a significant decrease in the natural frequency responses of the 6063 aluminum alloy beam. The results show that damage causes a decrease in the natural frequency of the structure. This study highlights the importance of applying simulation methods to the evaluation of the effect of changes in environmental temperature and multiple damages on the dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies and mode shapes, especially at the same time.

Introduced through policy instruments, as well as due to increase awareness of and demand for energy, alternative, renewable energy sources are becoming increasingly popular and necessary. The growing market and standards are forcing producers of renewable energy sources to constantly improve the quality of their products. Biomass trigenerators are one way of obtaining such energy, both in the form of electricity, heat and cold. These are elements generating steam by burning various solid, liquid or gaseous fuels of organic origin. Rotating machines in the form of turbines or steam engines are used to generate electricity. Unfortunately, they are particularly exposed to steam impacts associated with discontinuous work. This article presents the monitoring and prevention system for such impacts. It is based on the analysis of the frequency spectrum of vibrations of such generators and can be used to implement a trigenerator control system that will reduce the influence of such impacts. With proposed diagnostic system, the efficiency and life span of a Renewable Energy Source can increase significantly.

Opis:
In this paper, implementation of soft sensing technique for measurement of fluid flow rate is reported. The objective of the paper is to design an estimator to physically measure the flow in pipe by analysing the vibration on the walls of the pipe. Commonly used head type flow meter causes obstruction to the flow and measurement would depend on the placement of these sensors. In the proposed technique vibration sensor is bonded on the pipe of liquid flow. It is observed that vibration in the pipe varies with the control action of stem. Single axis accelerometer is used to acquire vibration signal from pipe, signal is passed from the sensor to the system for processing. Basic techniques like filtering, amplification, and Fourier transform are used to process the signal. The obtained transform is trained using neural network algorithm to estimate the fluid flow rate. Artificial neural network is designed using back propagation with artificial bee colony algorithm. Designed estimator after being incorporated in practical setup is subjected to test and the result obtained shows successful estimation of flow rate with the root mean square percentage error of 0.667.

Opis:
In order to study the dynamic response of a drill pipe under the motion of the float platform, current and waves during the installation of a subsea production tree (SPT), a numerical model was established to analyse the mechanical properties of the drill pipe. The effects of the float platform motion on the mechanical behaviours of the drill pipe are carried out as well as the operation depth, submerged weight of the SPT, current velocity and drill pipe specification. At the same time, the evolution mechanism of the dynamic response of the drill pipe was also explored. The results show that the bending stress of the drill pipe approaches the maximum value when the platform moves to about one fourth of its period. Based on the research, the deeper the operation depth, the smaller the range of motion of the bottom of the drill pipe; the current velocity and the size of drill pipe have the greatest influence on the lateral displacement and bending stress.

Paper presents a report of a research work that concerns possibilities of freight wagons modernization using new composite materials. The main aim of presented work was to verify the possibility of inference from the dynamic response of the wagon about the changes in its technical condition. During the presented works tests on real objects were carried out using Macro Fiber Composite (MFC) piezoelectric transducers glued to the freight wagon’s frame. The dynamical response of the wagon was measured while the object was driving. On the next stage the measured signal was generated on a laboratory stand using electrodynamic modal shaker and vibrations of the laboratory model were measured. Measured signals were juxtaposed on charts and analysed. The aim of this work was to verify if it is possible to detect the change in the system using measurements of vibrations that are being generated during exploitation of the freight wagon.

Opis:
As part of an ongoing study into hydropower runner failure, a submerged, vibrating blade is investigated both experimentally and numerically. The numerical simulations performed are fully coupled acoustic-structural simulations in ANSYS Mechanical. In order to speed up the simulations, a model order reduction technique based on Krylov subspaces is implemented. This paper presents a comparison between the full ANSYS harmonic response and the reduced order model, and shows excellent agreement. The speedup factor obtained by using the reduced order model is shown to be between one and two orders of magnitude. The number of dimensions in the reduced subspace needed for accurate results is investigated, and confirms what is found in other studies on similar model order reduction applications. In addition, experimental results are available for validation, and show good match when not too far from the resonance peak.

Opis:
In this work, transient and free vibration analyses are illustrated for a functionally graded Timoshenko beam (FGM) using finite element method. The governing equilibrium equations and boundary conditions (B-Cs) are derived according to the principle of Hamilton. The materials constituents of the FG beam that vary smoothly along the thickness of the beam (along beam thickness) are evaluated using the rule of mixture method. Power law index, slenderness ratio, modulus of elasticity ratio, and boundary conditions effect of the cantilever and simply supported beams on the dynamic response of the beam are studied. Moreover, the influence of mass distribution and continuous stiffness of the FGM beam are deeply investigated. Comparisons between the current free vibration results (fundamental frequency) and other available studies are performed to check the formulation of the current mathematical model. Good results have been obtained. A significant effect is noticed in the transient response of both simply supported and cantilever beams at the smaller values of the power index and the modulus elasticity ratio.

Opis:
In this paper, the vibration analysis in terms of modal and harmonic responses are investigated for the power station structure of Kenyir Dam in Terengganu, Malaysia. Modal analysis is carried out to provide the dynamic characteristics of the power station which includes the natural frequencies and mode shapes. Meanwhile, the harmonic response analysis is performed by applying the force to the structure to obtain the Frequency Response Function (FRF) in certain range of frequencies. A real scale threedimensional (3D) model of the Kenyir Dam power station is constructed using Solid Works software and imported to ANSYS software for the Finite Element (FE) analysis. A proper boundary condition is taken into consideration to demonstrate the real behaviour of the power station structure. From the results, six most significant natural frequencies and mode shapes including the FRF in all three axes are selected. The highest natural frequency value occurred at 5.4 Hz with the maximum deflection of 0.90361 m in the z axis direction. This value is important in order to verify whether the structure can overcome the resonance phenomenon from the external disturbance forces in the future.

Opis:
The equipment mounted on the carbody chassis of the railway vehicles is a critical component of the vehicle in terms of ride comfort. The reason for that is their large mass, able to visibly influence the vibrations mode of the carbody. The paper examines the influence of the equipment upon the mode of vertical vibrations of the carbody in the high-speed vehicles, reached on the basis of the frequency response functions of the acceleration in three carbody reference points – at the centre and above the bogies. These functions are derived from the numerical simulations developed on a rigid-flexible coupled model, with seven degrees of freedom. As a rule, the results herein prove the influence of the equipment mounting mode (rigid or elastic), along with the speed regime, upon the level of vibrations in the carbody reference points, at the resonance frequency of the symmetrical bending mode. Similarly, it is also demonstrated how the equipment mass and the damping degree of the suspension system affect the level of the vibrations in the carbody.
