Opis:
The study presents the results of microstructural examinations of the volume solidifying Fe-C-V alloys containing carbon in the range of 1.45-2.23% and vanadium in the range of 7.33-15.08%. Attention was focussed on near-eutectic alloys. The Fe-C-V eutectic crystallising in these alloys is composed of ferrite and vanadium carbides of VC1-x type, and as such is included in the group of fibrous eutectics. During research, the experimental eutectic lines were plotted for Fe-C-V alloys, and a formula enabling calculation of the eutectic saturation ratio of these alloys was proposed.

Opis:
The results of the leaching of vanadium(V) from the mixture after potassium metavanadate synthesis from KCl and spent vanadium catalyst in the presence of steam were presented. Spent vanadium catalyst was obtained from the waste storage of a chemical plant producing sulfuric acid(VI) by the contact method. The reaction mixture was leached using different solutions: 1 M Na2CO3, 20% CO(NH2)2, 15% NaOH, 15% KOH, 2 M H2SO4. The effect of time and temperature was studied. The results showed that for reaction mixture leached for 4 h at 303 K in the presence of 15% sodium hydroxide solution at a liquid:solid ratio of 10:1, the extent of leaching of vanadium(V) was 95.43%.

Opis:
This article addresses the results of microstructural examinations of the volume solidifying Fe–C–V–Si alloys containing carbon in the range of 1.39÷1.76%, vanadium in the range of 6.77÷7.77% and silicon in the range of 0.02÷3.10. The melting charge was Armco iron, ferro-vanadium with 81.7 wt.%V, spectrally pure graphite and technically pure silica. It was shown that with increasing the silicon content, the microstructure of the resulting alloy changing. These changes include both a matrix the shape of the primary carbides and type of crystallizing eutectic. In the studied alloys was observed following eutectic: fibrous (crystallize as non-faceted/ non-faceted eutectic), complex regular (crystallize as faceted/ non-faceted eutectic), spiral (crystallize as faceted/ faceted eutectic). The results illustrated by the images of the microstructures made with an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope.

Opis:
The cast alloys crystallizing in Fe-C-V system are classified as white cast iron, because all the carbon is bound in vanadium carbides. High vanadium cast iron has a very high abrasion resistance due to hard VC vanadium carbides. However, as opposed to ordinary white cast iron, this material can be treated using conventional machining tools. This article contains the results of the group of Fe-C-V alloys of various microstructure which are been tested metallographic, mechanical using an INSTRON machine and machinability with the method of drilling. The study shows that controlling the proper chemical composition can influence on the type and shape of the crystallized matrix and vanadium carbides. This makes it possible to obtain a high-vanadium cast iron with very high wear resistance while maintaining a good workability.

Opis:
The main objective of this study was to quantitatively and qualitatively idenify trace metal admixtures in ore mineralsfrom Fe-Ti-V ore deposits within the Suwałki Anorthosite Massifin NE Poland. Chemical composition of ore minerals was determined using the CAMECA SX-100 electron microprobe and scanning electron microscope. The most abundant trace elements were Ti and Vhosted in oxides and Co, Ni, Cu, Zn contained in sulphides such aspentlandite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, pyrite, siegenite, millerite. Scarce occurrences of native Bi, hessite and greenockite were identified. Samples, which were depleted in iron oxides were enriched in REE due to the presence of zircon, apatite and monazite.

Opis:
The sorption of vanadium(V) ions from acidic solutions using the Pyrolox sorbent was studied at varying ions concentrations, pH, contact time and temperature. The investigated ions were determined by means of graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS). The sorption capacity of vanadium(V) ions was examined in the pH range 2-10. The adsorption capacities of vanadium(V) ions depend on the pH values. Therefore, the initial pH 2 of vanadium(V) results in the highest adsorption capacities. The sorption vanadium(V) kinetics was investigated. The experimental data were analyzed using the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order forms, Elovich, and intra-particle diffusion models. The kinetics of vanadium(V) sorption is described by the pseudo-first-order in the best way. The results indicate the endothermic process of V(V) ions sorption. The presented results of vanadium ions recovery from the solutions obtained as a result of spent catalysts leaching indicate the possibility of vanadium recovery.

Opis:
With the aim of separating Fe and V, a vanadium-titanium magnetite concentrate was selectively reduced, followed by magnetic separation. The processes accompanying reduction of the vanadium-titanium magnetite concentrate were investigated using thermodynamic simulation, experiments, scanning electron microscopy, and electron probe microanalysis. Appropriate reduction conditions and controlling the amount of CaCO3 promoted the reduction of Fe-containing minerals to metallic Fe. V was released from magnetite, ilmenite, and titanomagnetite, and was inhibited to reduce to metallic V, leading to V enrichment in the non-magnetic products in the form of oxides. Moreover, the Fe particles wrapped the slag phase when the amount of CaCO3 exceeded 8%, which is unfavourable for the magnetic separation of Fe and V. Magnetic products with an Fe content of 87.19%, Fe recovery of 82.62%, V content of 0.09% and non-magnetic products with a V content of 1.00% and a V recovery of 85.49% were obtained when the vanadium-titanium magnetite concentrate was reduced for 100 min at 1623 K with a C/O molar ratio of 2.5 and 8% CaCO3, followed by separating at a magnetic field strength of 85 mT.
