    The reconstruction of the image of the child would have to begin with the ways of establishing the subject of research, namely, the basis of the verbal image of the child. Words and names distinguish and identify concepts and things, carry a certain meaning, and it is the context that sometimes allows to make the meaning more specific. However, in Korczak’s work it is not that easy, because there is no single, consistent definition of the child, there are many different explanations and explications of the concept in question depending on the situation and circumstances it was located by the author. I will try to show the meanings and connotations of the lexeme ‘child’ used in Korczak’s texts. It must be emphasized that the motif of the child is omnipresent in Korczak’s world, it acts as a dominant in each of the texts under analysis Nevertheless, putting these images together into a single, coherent picture seems impossible for several reasons. One of them is the fact that the child is involved in many different linguistic, cultural, social and generational contexts in Korczak’s prose. The other is the repertoire of linguistic means the author used to define the concept of the child and to create an image of the child to model the ways the child is perceived.

    Jednym z najbardziej oryginalnych i interesujących aspektów twórczości naukowej Józefa Nowackiego był założenia metodologiczne jego badań teoretycznoprawnych. Niezwykle rygorystyczne rozumienie naukowości twierdzeń prawniczych daje się zrekonstruować na podstawie jego prac poświęconych różnorodnym problemom prawniczym – w tym pojęciu normy prawnej, klauzuli generalnej, przepisów dyspozytywnych, zasad prawnych czy praktyki stosowania konstytucyjnego pojęcia państwa prawnego. Bezwzględne dążenie do ujawniania i eliminacji z rozważań naukowych wszelkich sądów wartościujących służyło obronie teorii prawa przed wpływami politycznych ideologii i subiektywnego wishful thinking udającego twierdzenie naukowe. Pod tymi względami nie tylko miała ona, ale wciąż zachowuje ogromną wartość. Jednocześnie nasuwa wiele wątpliwości i pytań pozostających w centrum metodologicznej dyskusji prawoznawstwa.
    Methodological assumptions underpinning Józef Nowacki’s research were one of the most original and intriguing aspects of his approach to legal theory. An extremely rigorous conception of what kind of legal claims may be regarded as scientific can be reconstructed based on his various writings about legal norms, general clauses, dispositive provisions of law, legal principles or the practical application of the constitutional notion of the rule of law. His relentless efforts to uncover and eliminate from scientific discourse any evaluative judgments served to defend legal theory against ideological influences and subjective wishful thinking disguised as scientific claims. In these respects, it not only was an unquestionably valuable position then, but it remains so nowadays. At the same time, it begs numerous questions and doubts that still permeate central methodological debates in jurisprudence.

    The paper presents an attempt to analyze the interview with Natalia within the framework of sociology of poverty and from a social exclusion perspective. The information about the origins of Natalia’s interview is delineated. In the main part of the text, the author refers to the concept of the badge of ability, described by Richard Sennett and Jonathan Cobb, as a tool of social categorizing and valuing and introduces the corresponding notion of the badge of inability, ascribed to the unprivileged group members. Furthermore, the influence of both kinds of badges on the situation of Natalia’s family of origin, on her life course, and self-description are indicated with some remarks on the narrator’s biographical and identity work. The last part of the paper presents the narrator’s understanding of the world of poverty and social exclusion, its mechanisms, and conditionings.

    The reflection on the theme of formation to valuing in the context of pluralism entails several important areas of analysis. First of all, the social and cultural dimension of the process of formation has been stressed. This implies both a necessity to properly choose values in formation and to take into account social consequences of the strategies how to teach them. The concepts of formation and values have been explained here, and particular principles according to which select values in the process of formation have been described. The formative situation under the conditions of the pluralism of values has been characterized in particular detail, including requirements and approved valuing attitudes in this context. A complex context of pluralism calls for adequate strategies of formation to valuing, among which we find: strategy of dissonance, strategy of testimony and strategy of stimulation. The strategies under consideration are directed towards a desirable formative effect, such as: greater sensitivity of the disciple to values, a coherent order of the selected values, coherence between the selected system of values and the realized attitude.

    In 2012 and 2015, Zbigniew Kobyliński’s articles on valuing archaeological monuments and sites (the article of 2012 was co-authored by Jacek Wysocki) were printed in post-conference publications. Z. Kobyliński assumed that historic preservation officers can assess values of archaeological sites by basing on non-scientific criteria and the level of preservation of artifacts only. The author is also of the opinion that the criteria used for classifying and categorising both properties of special architectural and historic interest and works of arts cannot be applied to archaeological sites. This stems from the knowledge on full potential of archaeological monuments and sites being limited prior to conducting thorough analyses. According to Kobyliński, any value assessment results in negative selection of archaeological sites and therefore, it is of utmost importance to provide all resources with appropriate protection. The author of this article takes a different point of view. Assuming that there is 0.5 million sites entered into the Polish record of archaeological monuments and sites, Konopka is of the opinion that it is and will be impossible to provide all resources even with basic monitoring, not mentioning active care. He reckons that basing on the information collected by archaeologists, it is possible to nominate sites of outstanding potential. Analysing the records by applying the most innovative non-invasive methods may allow for selecting sites which should be provided with particular care in a certain region. Konopka calls for implementing a form in which past relics of outstanding historical value and features characteristic of archaeological sites would be listed. These would be useful in identifying the potential of the place to be protected. He suggests creating a card being of higher rank than the record. The information provided therein would be helpful in nominating properties and sites to be entered into the register of historic monuments and sites.

    The author depicts valuing attitudes in student's vocabulary on the basis of texts from four Krakow universities at the end of the twentieth century. The paper is limited mainly to the vocabulary from the semantic field kobieta (woman), mężczyzna (man). This vocabulary occurs in synonymous series: neutral words // words with a positive or negative connotation, e.g. osoba (person), kobieta (woman), dziewczyna (girl) // babka (chick), kumpela (mate), laska (chick), ważniara (panjandrum), artycha (skirt) or człowiek (man), mężczyzna (man), chłopiec (boy) // studencik, gościu (fellow, guy, bloke), facecik (fellow, guy), przystojniak, palant. In comparison with the vocabulary earlier by 30-40 years contained in the Vocabulary of Student's Dialect, there are twenty or so new words describing women and men, e.g. pankówa (punk girl), przeaparatka; boyfriend, przewir.

    Aim. The main purpose of the research was to determine which group of participants will value the well-being of the mother, the child and both of them the most and to define the similarities and differences in the ways of thinking of mothers, fathers, people without children, and seniors when solving problems related to motherhood. Materials and methods. The proprietary tool Questionnaire “Advice for Mothers” was used, with six stories of women’s life problems. The participants determined to what extent they agreed with solutions – two (intersystemic level of thinking) prioritized the well-being of the mother or the child, and the third (metasystemic level of thinking) emphasized the simultaneous well-being of both mother and child. 936 people, aged 18 to 96, participated in the research. Results and conclusion. All groups preferred solutions were those emphasizing the wellbeing of both mother and child, but the similarity of the mothers’ way of thinking to others depended on the type of solution. The greatest similarity in the valuing well-being of both mother and child was noted between mothers and men without children, dissimilarity – between mothers and fathers and male seniors. When it comes to a child’s well-being, mothers valued it the most similarly to fathers and men without children, and the least – to seniors. The well-being of mothers was valued similarly by all groups, but the scores of mothers were the highest, the fathers’ – the lowest.
    Cel. Głównym celem badań było określenie, które grupy badanych będą wartościować dobro matki, dziecka i jednoczesne dobro obojga najwyżej oraz opisanie podobieństw i różnic w sposobach myślenia przy rozwiązywaniu problemów związanych z macierzyństwem pomiędzy matkami oraz ojcami, ludźmi nie posiadającymi dzieci i seniorami obu płci. Materiały i metody. Wykorzystano autorskie narzędzie Kwestionariusz „Rady dla Matek”, zawierające sześć historii kobiet, dotyczących ich problemów życiowych. Uczestnicy badania określali stopień, w jakim zgadzają się z każdym z rozwiązań – dwoma (na intersystemowym poziomie myślenia), w których priorytetem było dobro matki bądź dobro dziecka oraz trzecim (na metasystemowym poziomie myślenia), podkreślającym równoczesne dobro obojga. W badaniach wzięło udział 936 osób, w wieku od 18 do 96 lat. Wyniki i wnioski. Wszystkie grupy badanych preferowały najbardziej rozwiązania ukierunkowane na jednoczesne dobro matki i dziecka, jednakże podobieństwo myślenia matek i pozostałych osób zależało od typu rozwiązania. Największe podobieństwo w wartościowaniu równoczesnego dobra matki i dziecka odnotowano u matek i mężczyzn nie posiadających dzieci, różnicę – pomiędzy matkami i ojcami oraz seniorami. Jeśli chodzi o dobro dziecka, matki wartościowały je podobnie do ojców i mężczyzn nie posiadających dzieci, najmniej podobnie – do seniorów. Dobro matki było wartościowane w podobny sposób przez wszystkie grupy badanych, przy czym matki uzyskały najwyższe wyniki w tym zakresie, ojcowie – najniższe.

    The paper is an attempt to reflect on the valuing dimension of the category of the rationality of science, ontological and epistemological problems. Such problems should be solved should rationality be deemed a valuing category. Taking into consideration the discussions on the valuing character of the categories in ethics (good, evil) and the significance of moral judgements as the point of departure, I am posing a question about the importance of expressions with regard to the rationality of science, expressions treated as valuing expressions. Since the beginning of the reflections on science until now it has contained valuing and normative elements. This was irrespective of whether it took the form of logic, epistemology, methodology or philosophy of science. Moreover, the above disciplines were treated as, of their nature, formulating the ideal of knowledge and providing rules of a valuing cognition. In the twentieth century the central concept on which the discussions focused was the category of rationality. The question was how to define a valuable scientific knowledge and how to pursue science. We find some problems when we want to interpret the category of rationality as a valuing category. These problems seem to be good examples of questions that should be answered, while interpreting other epistemic categories as valuing. Including the category of the rationality of science in the valuing categories is tantamount to the conferral of a valuing sense on the statements about the rationality of science, the predicator „rational” and its antonyms. The standpoints in question, the interpretations of valuing statements are as follows: anti-naturalism, naturalism, cognitivism, and acognitivism. They answer such questions as: 1) what kind of feature is rationality? 2) what are its relationships with other features, in particular with the features examined by the natural, or broadly, empirical sciences? 3) does the feature of being rational or the relationship of being a good reason on behalf of something really exist? 4) what kind of predicator of the predicator „rational” and its antonyms? 5) what are their relations to other predicators, in particular those predicators which the natural, or broadly, empirical sciences make use of? 6) what kind of propositions are the statements about the rationality of science? 7) what do the statements about the rationality of science denote, or do they denote anything really existing? 8) what are the relationships of the statements of the rationality of science to other statements, in particular the statements formulated by natural sciences, e.g. cognitive psychology? The review of various manners by which to use the category of rationality in the philosophy of science speaks on behalf of the rejection of extreme interpretations: both extremely cognitivist and acognitivist. In the statements about rationality there are now two components: descriptive (object-related) and valuing. The valuing component may be understood in at least three inseparable and often coexisting manners: approving/disapproving, perfectionist and normative.

    Autor stawia pytanie, w jakim stopniu rozważania z zakresu aksjologii dotyczące relacji prawa i moralności mogą być przydatne dla rozwijania nurtu filozoficznoprawnego określanego mianem estetyki prawa, gdzie przedmiotem zainteresowania są – najogólniej rzecz biorąc – relacje prawa i piękna. Punktem wyjścia do rozważań jest zagadnienie aksjologii w kontekście prac pozostawionych przez Józefa Nowackiego, w tym przede wszystkim artykułu pt. „Wartościowanie w nauce prawa”. Przedmiotem artykułu jest więc aksjologia, ale w znaczeniu, które obejmuje zarówno etykę, jak i estetykę. Autor rozróżnia cztery rodzaje opisu, jakimi posługują się nauki prawne: opis normatywny, empiryczny, teoretyczny i – wyróżniony przez autora – opis aksjologiczny, który może być uzasadniany w ramach subiektywizmu aksjologicznego. Polega on na ocenie wartości i ich przydawaniu albo odejmowaniu, a także wartościowaniu, czyli porównywaniu i ważeniu wartości. Autor rozważa, co w tym zakresie inspirującego mogą podpowiadać dociekania aksjologiczne w ogólności, a prace J. Nowackiego w szczególności.
    In his article, the author asks the question to what extent considerations in the field of axiology regarding the relationship between law and morality can be useful for the development of the legal-philosophical trend known as legal aesthetics, where the subject of interest is, most generally, the relationship between law and beauty. The starting point for reflections is the issue of axiology in the context of the works left by Józef Nowacki, including, first of all, his article “Valuing in the science of law”. Thus, the subject of the article is axiology, but in a sense that covers both ethics and aesthetics. The author distinguishes four types of description used by legal science: normative description, empirical description, theoretical description and – distinguished by the author – axiological description, which can be justified within the framework of axiological subjectivism. It involves evaluating values and either adding or subtracting them, as well as valuing, that is, comparing and weighing values. The author considers what inspiration in this regard can be drawn from axiological inquiries in general, and Nowacki’s works in particular.

    Opis:
    Picture books and illustrations provide children fine art contact and first visual communication experience. Therefore, it is important for them to have their place in the child’s daily routine and to be valuable in terms of cognitive and aesthetic stimuli. A place where a toddler can experience them – next to the family home – is a kindergarten, so teachers should have the competence to introduce a child into the world of book illustration. Above all, teachers ought to express personal involvement in the evaluation of such cultural texts. The paper outlines the value of book illustrations which are perceived and preferred by people who are preparing for the profession of early childhood education teacher. The subjects assessed illustrations made in different conventions and stylistics (realistic and fantastic, classic and avant-garde) and made with various techniques (painting and graphic). The assembled lexical corpus, perceiving perceptions of the illustration, was analysed from the perspective of the category of paintings evaluation and the lexical assessment category, which expressed a personal attitude to the perceived images.
    Kontakt ze sztuką plastyczną i pierwsze doświadczenia w komunikacji wizualnej zapewniają dziecku książki obrazkowe i ilustrowane. Dlatego istotne jest, by miały one określone miejsce w codzienności dziecka i by zapewniały wartościowe pod względem poznawczym i estetycznym bodźce. Miejscem, gdzie małe dziecko może ich doświadczać – obok przestrzeni domu rodzinnego – jest przedszkole, dlatego nauczyciele powinni posiadać kompetencje związane z wprowadzaniem wychowanka w świat dobrej ilustracji książkowej, a przede wszystkim wyrażać osobiste zaangażowanie w wartościowanie tego rodzaju tekstów kultury. W opracowaniu przedstawiono, jakie wartości ilustracji książkowych postrzegają i preferują osoby przygotowujące się do zawodu nauczyciela wczesnej edukacji. Badani wartościowali ilustracje wykonane w różnych konwencjach i stylistyce (realistycznej i fantastycznej, klasyczne i awangardowe) oraz wykonane różnymi technikami (malarskimi i graficznymi). Zgromadzony korpus leksykalny, dotyczący odczuć związanych z percepcją ilustracji książkowej, analizowano z perspektywy kategorii ocen dzieł malarskich oraz kategorii wartościowania leksykalnego, wyrażającego osobisty stosunek do percypowanych obrazów.

    Ludwik Osiński – professor-aesthete. An attempt to valorize the comparative literature lectures The article is an attempt to give a broad outline of the profile of Ludwik Osiński as a literature lecturer at the Warsaw University. Over the centuries, the author of Zbiór zabawek wierszem has been accused of: lack of originality in concluding, imitativeness, deficiency of qualifications characteristic for a university lecturer, and finally, disapproval for transformations taking place in literature. The purpose of the article is to answer the question about the Osiński’s position among the scientists of the Congress Kingdom. Moreover, this paper is also an attempt to verify the slightly understated, still taken over and reproduced judgements about unilateral and definitely negative attitude of scientists towards the critical legacy of the author of Zbiór zabawek wierszem. When assessing the aesthetic and literary achievements of Ludwik Osiński, two points of reference were determined; the first one is the heritage of Antique, and the other one – the European literary doctrines developing in the 2nd half of 18th and the beginning of 19th century. In the exemplification, the author of the article subjects a fragment of the Osiński’s course (Wykład literatury porównawczej, czytanej w Uniwersytecie Warszawskim, [The lecture of comparative literature, read at the Warsaw University]) devoted to lyrical poetry to research review. A detailed presentation concerns a few issues, mainly the attitude to the antique tradition and the European literary doctrines, as well as understanding of the rules of evaluating and valuing of literary works.
