Opis:
Currently produced diesel engines of different manufacturers, used for the same applications, have comparable specific fuel consumption. Therefore, the laboratories measuring fuel consumption, especially in comparative tests, require the use of more accurate methods of measurement. The Environmental Protection Centre of Motor Transport Institute has recently implemented the fuel consumption measurement method using KMA Mobile flow meter produced by AVL company. This device allows to carry out measurements by both volumetric and mass method, thanks to builtin device for measuring the fuel density. Due to some customers requirements the laboratory began with preparations for obtaining accreditation of the Polish Centre of Accreditation for the procedure of measuring fuel consumption by volumetric and mass method. One of the requirements of the Polish Centre for Accreditation is carrying out the validation of the new method. It can be done by comparing the results obtained with new method with the results of the method already validated. The validated method is described in the regulation. This is the carbon balance method described in UN-ECE Regulations No. 101. The calculation of fuel consumption according to this method is based on a measurement of pollutants emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (THC). This paper describes the fuel consumptions measuring procedure using two methods: mass method using a AVL KMA Mobile flow meter and carbon balance method using the AVL AMA i60 analyzers. To verify measurement results additionally there was fuel consumption measured with using a scale, as a difference of the external fuel tank mass change, from which the vehicle was fuelled during the tests

Opis:
Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the psychometric properties of the French versions of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and to compare the appropriateness of the three versions of this scale (14 items, 10 items, or 4 items) in a sample of workers. Materials and Methods: Five hundred and one workers were randomly selected in several occupational health care centers of the North of France during 2010. Participants completed a questionnaire including demographic variables and the PSS. The psychometric properties of this scale were analyzed: internal consistency, factorial structure, and discriminative sensibility. Results: For the PSS-14 and PSS-10, the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) provided a two-factor structure, corresponding to the positively and negatively worded items. Those two factors were significantly correlated (r = 0.43 and 0.50, respectively). For the PSS-4, the EFA yielded a one-factor structure. The reliability was high for all three versions of the PSS (Cronbach’s α values ranged from 0.73 to 0.84). The results concerning the effects of age, gender, marital, parental and occupational statuses showed that the 10-item version had the best discriminative sensibility. Conclusions: The findings confirmed satisfactory psychometric properties of all the three French versions of the PSS. We recommend the use of the PSS-10 in research settings because of its good psychometric properties.

Opis:
Suggestibility is one of the personality traits. The ability to accept signals from oneself, another person, or any type of media without feeling obligated to do so, including messages concerning physiological feelings, is referred to as suggestibility. It varies from compliance in that it requires the internalisation of a message rather than just a behavioural change. The study aims to validate the Multidimensional Iowa suggestibility Scale (MISS) developed by Dr Roman Kotov on Indian youth for future use and application. The study’s hypothesis is that the scale will be highly reliable and valid for the Indian population. The original scale established by Dr Roman Kotov consisted of 95 items to be responded to by choosing the appropriate option from five given, which was given to an Indian sample of 510 individuals. The scale includes five suggestibility subscales and two companion scales. To check the validity, inter-scale correlation and reliability was performed. The results have been positive, with high correlations among the subscales, which suggests further future use. MISS, consisting of five subscales of suggestibility and a Short Suggestibility Scale, has been validated and can be used on the Indian population.

Opis:
This paper concerns the psychometric evaluation of the Polish version of a self-report questionnaire to measure burnout. Although the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) is the most commonly employed measure of burnout, researchers have been troubled by some of its psychometric limitations. The aim of this study is to examine the MBI-GS factor structure in three occupational groups (both within the human services sector and elsewhere), and to evaluate its reliability (internal consistency). In evaluating factorial validity, we carried out an explanatory analysis and a number of confirmatory analyses (using the total database and the three occupational groups). An additional aim was to explore the relationships between biographic characteristics (gender, age, work experience, employment level, and occupation) and burnout. The results of the confirmatory analyses show us that all three models fit the data almost acceptably, both in the total sample (N=998) and in the separate occupational groups, and that the fit of the three-factor solution appears to be somewhat better than that of the one- and two-factor solutions. When the initial model failed to fit the data well, we had to eliminate two items with weak reliability. The results then confirmed the factorial validity of the MBI-GS—as expected, the MBI-GS consists of three scales that are moderately correlate.

Opis:
The systematic study of the phenomena accompanying decompression is complex problem because of a lack of precise measurement methods to monitor the processes taking place in body tissues. The mathematical models used to describe the decompression process, reflect only a fragmentary part of the total phenomena taking place. They usually consist of trying to fit experimental data by means of relatively simple mathematical functions. Such mathematical models, however, should be treated as calculation methods for deriving decompression procedures, not as mathematical models of the physiological processes taking place during decompression [2]. The validation process is to verify the assumptions made in the decompression model by establishing a decompression sickness (DCS) risk function based on experimental dive data. This paper presents the result of a project entitled: "Deep Diving Trimix System", sponsored by the Naval Academy, Gdynia.

This article reports on the updating and validation of a questionnaire for vocabulary learning strategies. An English as a second language (ESL) version of the Vocabulary Learning Questionnaire (VLQ), first published in Gu and Johnson (1996), was created based on its latest version. Two response formats were piloted, that is, a paper version with a 7-point Likert scale and an online version with a 100-point slider bar. A series of validation procedures resulted in a 62-item instrument which was then administered online among 682 English language learners at the tertiary level in China. The paper presents evidence of content validity, construct validity, internal consistency reliability, and predictive validity. It also provides suggestions for interpreting and using the questionnaire for both research and instructional purposes.

The purposes of this article are to present validation techniques according to their discriminatory power, while indicating the reservations about such techniques, and to check the adjustment of the existing Polish bankruptcy prediction models in the context of their discriminatory power. This is the first study that performs a validation of such models. Based on the analysis, it was found that the fifth model developed by Hadasik was characterised by a very high discriminatory power. The decision was made to base the evaluation of the discriminatory power of the modules on the Gini index, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic, the H measure, the information value (IV), and the precision of the estimates of bankruptcy.

An assessment of the Galileo In-Orbit Validation (IOV) signals on the E5 band is presented in this paper, investigating the signal features compared with the expected characteristics as described in the Galileo Interface Control Document (ICD) specifications. In detail, the results in terms of signal acquisition and tracking during multiple satellite passes are discussed, providing also a description of the experimental setup used in order to separately receive and process E5a and E5b signals. The analysis covers the received signal strength versus the satellite elevation, the modulation format, and the presence of navigation data and secondary code chips. Since at time of writing both the two Galileo IOV satellites (PFM and FM2) are broadcasting E5 signals, the results obtained processing their E5a and E5b signals are discussed. In addition, these signals are also compared with those currently transmitted by the two experimental Galileo satellites, GIOVE-A and GIOVE-B.

Zaproponowano ogólną metodologię walidacji oprogramowania systemów pomiarowych. Przedstawiono możliwość zastosowania tej metodologii do walidacji oprogramowania współrzędnościowych maszyn pomiarowych (WMP). Maszyny te stanowią bardzo ważne wyposażenie pomiarowe w przemyśle, stosującym zaawansowane technologie. Aktualnie brakuje ujednoliconych procedur walidacji oprogramowania tego rodzaju systemów. Publikacja jest wynikiem pierwszego wspólnego podejścia autorów do ujednolicenia działań dotyczących walidacji oprogramowania WMP. Głównymi etapami proponowanej metodologii są: dekompozycja oprogramowania na części, moduły i komponenty, określenie fazy realizacji komponentu, ustalenie kategorii ryzyka, wyspecyfikowanie wymagań, opracowanie procedury walidacji odpowiedniej dla ocenianego komponentu, przeprowadzenie walidacji i wygenerowanie jej certyfikatu.
A general validation methodology for measurement system software is proposed. The possibility of applying this methodology to validation of the software of coordinate measuring machines (CMM) is presented. These machines are important measurement equipment of industrial plants using advanced technologies. Up to now there have not been developed unified and standardized procedures for software validation of such systems. The publication is the result of the authors' joined approach to developing the unified validation methodology of the CMMs software. The main stages of the proposed methodology are: decomposition of the software into parts, modules and components, specifying the requirements, development of the validation procedure appropriate to the assessed component. Since the requirements can be different for each type of the software component subjected to validation, the software examination should be carried in accordance to them. The necessary stage is preparation and generation of the validation certificate.

Opis:
The purpose of this article is the analysis of the system dynamics model validation illustrated by the example of a model of the manufacturing resource allocation. In the first part of the article the authors present an overview of the definitions of validation and verification that can be found in the reference literature. Also, they emphasize the role which validation and verification play in the modeling process. Furthermore, they discuss the techniques of system dynamics model validation with particular focus on tests of the model structure, behavior and policy implications. The second part of the article contains an example of the validation process of a system dynamics model simulating manufacturing resource allocation in an electronic company. The purpose of the model is to assess the long-term effect of assigning workers to individual tasks on such production process parameters as efficiency or effective work time. The authors focus their particular attention on that part of the model which deals with a storehouse, one of the company production units. They conduct tests of its structure and behavior. When validating the structure the authors make use of the information obtained in a series of interviews with the company staff. They also refer to the generally accepted knowledge found in the reference literature. The results generated by the model in the course of the behavior tests are compared with the real data. The authors evaluate both the logic of the system behavior and the level of accuracy of the output data in reference to the real system.
