The article focuses on selected aspects of the activities ofthe Poznań University of Economics, which is marking its 85th year in existence. The article was written by five senior academics tied to the university: Ryszard Domański, Marian Gorynia, Bohdan Gruchman, Witold Jurek, and Emil Panek. The first part of the article discusses the legal basis of the university’s existence. The second part focuses on faculty issues, including a presentation of the university’s authorities throughout its history. The next section analyzes the teaching agenda of the Poznań University of Economics, highlighting the evolution of the forms and fields of study as well as trends in student numbers. In the part devoted to academic research, the article describes the activities of the main research schools that have operated during the university’s 85-year history, listing their chief representatives. The fifth part of the text presents holders of honorary doctorates conferred by the university. The last section describes the work of the Partner Club of the Poznań University of Economics.

For several years we have watched worsening demographic situation of our country. Fever children are born and fewer people choose legalization of their relationships There are a lot of arguments to explain such a situation. Problem of appropriate work is worth special attention. It is hard for the young people to find decent job for decent salary. The main study objective is showing what kind of values are the most important in Poznan students’ life. The study attempts to determine what, according to the youth’s opinion, is the sense of life through the value identification. Usually there are several important ones, the rest remains complying.

The article aims at broadening the knowledge in the area of the image of a university. It provides an overview of research on factors influencing the perception of a university and its impact on the satisfaction and loyalty of students. The author also proposes a definition of the ‘university of choice.’ The paper is based on the results of research carried out on a sample of over 400 respondents – candidates for studies at a Polish state economic university: SGH Warsaw School of Economics. One of the aims of that research was to examine their perception of the image of the university. The results obtained indicate the importance of links between the educational offer, the labor market and future careers of candidates, while the conducted factor analysis provides some additional information concerning new trends in economics and business.

The paper presents the results of the sixth edition of the survey on the awareness and economic maturity of children and adolescents. It was carried out - as in previous editions - in the form of anonymous questionnaire. All of the respondents were primary and junior high school students participating in extracurricular programs on economic education - Children's University of Economics (EUD) and the Academy of Young Economist (AME). The survey enabled to gather data on three main areas of research: knowledge, skills and attitudes related to economics, finance and entrepreneurship. The results show that the students of EUD and AME appreciate the possibility to participate in extracurricular programs on economic education. The possibility to analyze economic and entrepreneurial problems results in their high familiarity with particular terms and ability to define them (ex. electronic money, privatization, unemployment rate). Moreover, students from both groups estimate their ability to deal with everyday life problems requiring economical knowledge (practical skills) on higher level than their ability to explain economic problems (theoretical skills). The results also show that students' attitudes toward economic issues, such as taking out a bank loan to fund holiday expenses, are unexpectedly mature and based on common sense.

The article presents the results of the fifth edition of the study focused on the economic maturity and awareness of children and youth. Dynamic changes taking place in the contemporary world, which may be observed in the economy, politics and in the way the society functions, create many challenges to people in every aspect of their lives. One of the main tasks of today’s education is to help young people to obtain the skills necessary for lifelong learning, which will enable them to flexibly adapt to the ever-changing reality and consciously manage their own education, also after leaving school. Therefore, awakening students’ curiosity about the world around them and convincing young people that learning can be a pleasure and passion becomes the main goal of children’s universities. Such initiatives have been acting around the world and also in Poland for many years. The economic education programs aimed at primary school students offered by the Children’s University of Economics (EUD) and the Academy of Young Economist (AME) distinguish them within the rich offer of Polish children’s universities. Their primary goal is to popularize knowledge and build economic awareness among children, to promote entrepreneurial attitudes and to support parents in the appropriate economic education of the young generation. The EUD and AME offerings of extracurricular activities may also contribute to the growth of economic awareness among Poles. The high level of satisfaction of EUD and AME lecturers, as well as the unceasing interest in these activities among children, prove these projects to be a success.

The article's main objective was to identify the propensity of students to participate in foreign exchange programmes and the expectations they formulate towards the HEI (Higher Education Institution) in creating conditions conducive to foreign mobility. The article presents a broader context of this mobility, presenting in the first part considerations concerning the essence of the process of internationalisation of HEIs and the strategies created for this process. The research used a multi-method approach (survey method and desk research method), with data triangulation. The assessment of the models of the range of internationalisation of these universities indicated the use of elements of the 'import' and 'export' models. An important aspect of internationalisation is the foreign mobility of both employees and students. Although students perceive the importance of international exchange, their level of knowledge about exchange programmes and interest in foreign mobility is low.
Głównym celem badań zaprezentowanych w artykule była identyfikacja przejawów internacjonalizacji publicznych uczelni ekonomicznych w Polsce oraz rozpoznanie skłonności studentów do uczestnictwa w programach wymiany zagranicznej, a także ich oczekiwań formułowanych pod adresem uczelni w kontekście tworzenia warunków sprzyjających wyjazdom. W badaniach zastosowano podejście multimetodyczne (metodę ankietową i metodę desk research) z triangulacją danych. Ocena modeli zasięgu internacjonalizacji badanych szkół wyższych wskazała na stosowanie elementów modelu „importu” i „eksportu”. Istotnym aspektem umiędzynarodowienia jest mobilność zagraniczna – zarówno pracowników, jak i studentów. Choć studenci dostrzegają istotność wymiany międzynarodowej, to poziom ich wiedzy o programach wymiany i zainteresowanie mobilnością zagraniczną są niskie.

Artykuł przedstawia rezultaty zadania powierzonego studentom kierunku Towaroznawstwo na Uniwersytecie Ekonomicznym w Krakowie wiosną 2018 roku w ramach przedmiotu Ochrona dóbr kultury z aspektami celnymi. Na liście PH znajdowało się wówczas 91 miejsc i obiektów, a zadaniem studentów było krytyczne odniesienie się do zawartości listy poprzez wskazanie miejsc i obiektów, których obecność na liście budzi ich zdziwienie lub sprzeciw oraz zaproponowanie takich, które w ich ocenie powinny się na niej znaleźć, a jednak ich nie ma. W tej pierwszej kategorii najwięcej osób (aż 8 z 32 wypowiadających się) wyraziło zdziwienie umieszczeniem na liście stadniny koni w Janowie Podlaskim, z czego 5 uznało, iż obiektu tego nie powinno być na liście w ogóle. Bardzo krytycznie (3 głosy zdecydowanej dezaprobaty) oceniono też Łódź – wielokulturowy krajobraz miasta przemysłowego. Jeśli chodzi o uzupełnianie listy, to najwięcej osób (5) dostrzegło konieczność wpisania na nią Auschwitz Birkenau - niemieckiego nazistowskiego obozu koncentracyjnego i zagłady oraz Twierdzy Przemyśl (4), co w tym drugim przypadku stało się już faktem. Realizacja zadania pokazała, iż taka forma ochrony zabytków jest w Polsce potrzebna, a emocje, jakie budzi zawartość listy PH mogą mieć walor edukacyjny i popularyzatorski.
The article presents the results of the task given to students of Commodity Studies at the Cracow University of Economics in the spring of 2018 within the framework of the subject Protection of Cultural Property with Customs Aspects. The students' task was to critically address the content of the list by indicating those places and objects which they found surprising or objectionable on the list and proposing those which in their opinion should be included but are not. In this first category, most people (as many as 8 out of 32 who spoke) were surprised at the inclusion of a stud farm in Janów Podlaski on the list, 5 of which decided that the farm should not be on the list at all. Łódź - a multicultural landscape of an industrial city - was also assessed very critically (3 votes of strong disapproval). As for adding new items to the list, most people (5) noticed the need to include Auschwitz Birkenau, the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp, and the Przemyśl Fortress (4), which has since actually happened in the latter case. The implementation of the task showed that such a form of protection of historical monuments is necessary in Poland, and the emotions aroused by the content of the MH list may have an educational and popularizing value.

Dear Readers, We are pleased to present the next issue of the Research Papers in Economics and Finance published by the University of Economics and Business in Poznan, Poland. We have selected five articles from different parts of Europe. This issue opens with a great paper, which received three excellent reviews, written by Mihaela Simionescu from the Institute for Economic Forecasting of the Romanian Academy entitled “Bayesian combined forecasts and Monte Carlo simulations to improve inflation rate predictions in Romania”. The author has proved, using empirical data for Romania, that the Bayesian combined forecasts using experts’ predictions as priors, when the shrinkage parameter tends to infinity, improved the accuracy of the predictions based on individual models. The second paper entitled “Risk management system references in construction” has been written by four authors: Volodymyr Tkachenko, Maryna Klymchuk, Tetiana Ilina from Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture and Iryna Tkachenko from the Academy of the State Penitentiary Service in Kyiv, Ukraine. In this paper the authors examine the basic methods of risk management in construction: avoidance of risk, localisation, dissipation and compensation. Formalised functional structuring of risk management in construction was proposed, allowing for the implementation of management functions at two levels – executive and coordinating, with the help of a special structural component in the enterprise management system or a specialised unit in the organisational structure. The next paper concerns “Information demand of foreign labour market from the point of view of Chinese students”. This paper has been written by Anna Pilarczyk and Tomasz Naprawski from the University of Szczecin, Poland. The authors have used the companies’ and students’ surveys which identified the main problems facing employers (like a small number of applicants or lack of expertise and experience) and foreign employees (like organisational problems or formal requirements in a foreign country) during the job application process. The proposed information-logistics engine was designed as a core for the software architecture of target-oriented application, in which the user requirements are not clear but have the highest priority. The fourth paper has been created by Joanna Ratajczak from the University of Economics and Business in Poznan, Poland, and concerns “Recruitment and motivation of Generation Z in the face of the employee's market”. The study involved 390 students in Leszno, Poland. The author has proved that despite the low level of unemployment and the problem of finding people willing to work in Leszno in 2018, employers did not fully respond to the expectations of young people. The employee market in the opinion of the employees themselves, especially in smaller towns, where a low unemployment rate is observed, does not translate into improved employment conditions. The last paper entitled “Statutory regulations and corporate governance standards in cooperative banks” has been written by Mikołaj Jalinik from Bialystok University of Technology, Poland and Krzysztof Łukaszuk from the Cooperative Bank in Bielsk Podlaski, Poland. According to the authors’ research, although the regulations of the European Parliament duplicate the solutions already existing on the domestic legal grounds in some areas, they are part of the general policy and practice of developing financial sector regulations, unifying requirements for financial institutions and raising standards in the area of corporate governance. In the case of cooperative banks, doubts arise as to whether, being entities different from commercial banks, implementing solutions (including those of the European Parliament) under pressure from the regulator, the results obtained will prove to be adequate to the specificity of the entities covered by it. Dear Readers, I have the pleasure of presenting to you the second issue of the research journal entitled “Research Papers in Economics and Finance” (REF), published by the Faculty of Economics at Poznań University of Economics and Business.  The first and the second paper were presented during the 10thEnvironmental PhD Candidates’ Conference “Economy. Technology. Society.” (GTS), organised by the Heads of Doctoral Studies together with the PhD Council of the Poznań University of Economics and Business. Five research papers were published in this issue of the journal. The first one focuses on changes in the employment structure caused by the development of automation technologies. The second article presents the role of the social responsibility of the state in shaping the reputation of the largest donors of official development assistance. The third article describes the theoretical background of motivation and market statistics of distressed investments on global mergers and the acquisitions market. Another article focuses onthe efficiency of the R&D sector in the European Union countries. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja wybranych aspektów funkcjonowania Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Poznaniu w okresie 90 lat istnienia Uczelni. Artykuł został przygotowany przez sześciu rektorów Uczelni: Ryszarda Domańskiego, Mariana Gorynia, Bohdana Gruchmana, Witolda Jurka, Emila Panka i Macieja Żukowskiego. W pierwszej części opracowania omówiono podstawy prawne istnienia Uczelni. Drugą część poświęcono zagadnieniom kadrowym, włącznie z przedstawieniem władz Uczelni w całym okresie jej istnienia. W kolejnym fragmencie opracowania zanalizowano działalność dydaktyczną Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Poznaniu ze zwróceniem szczególnej uwagi na ewolucję form i kierunków studiów, a także na tendencje w zakresie liczby studiujących. W następnej części artykułu uwagę skupiono na prowadzeniu badań naukowych. Wyodrębniono i zaprezentowano działalność najważniejszych szkół badawczych, jakie powstały w okresie 90 lat istnienia Uczelni, wskazując na ich najważniejszych przedstawicieli. W piątej części tekstu przedstawiono doktorów honoris causa Uczelni. Ostatni fragment poświęcono zaprezentowaniu działalności Klubu Partnera Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Poznaniu.

W artykule przedstawiono w zarysie genezę oraz etapy rozwoju działalności Zespołu Katedry Transportu, funkcjonującego w strukturze Wydziału Ekonomii Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Katowicach, w zakresie realizacji funkcji naukowo-badawczych, badawczo-eksperckich oraz edukacyjnych. W ciągu 48 lat istnienia zespołu zajmującego się ekonomiczną problematyką transportu, spedycji i logistyki można wymienić etap kształtowania profilu ośrodka naukowo-badawczego, założonego przez doc. Jana Wiesnera oraz okres, w którym pracownicy Katedry kontynuują przyjęte standardy oraz podejmują nowe inicjatywy, uzasadnione szeroko rozumianymi przemianami. Zespół prowadzi badania naukowe ważne z punktu widzenia istniejących megatrendów, jak również rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczego regionu Górnego Śląska oraz kraju. Badania naukowe, dorobek publikacyjny i doświadczenie zawodowe kadry wiążą się bezpośrednio z prowadzonymi procesami kształcenia na kierunku ekonomia w ramach specjalności transport i logistyka oraz studiach stacjonarnych i niestacjonarnych pierwszego stopnia kierunku logistyka o tytule zawodowym inżyniera oraz nowo uruchomionych, trzysemestralnych studiach drugiego stopnia na kierunku logistyka.
This article outlines the origin and the development of the activities pursued by the members of the Department of Transport, which is part of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics in Katowice, within the scope of performance of scientific research, expert and educational functions. The 48 years of existence of the Department of Transport, which deals with issues related to transport, forwarding and logistics, may indeed be divided into an early period of building up a profile of the scientific research centre established by Assistant Professor Jan Wiesner, and then, the period in which the members of the Department maintain the established standards and undertake new initiatives justified by broadly-defined transformations. The Department of Transport conducts scientific research essential in terms of the existing major trends as well as the socio-economic development of Silesia and the whole country. The research, the publication record and the professional expertise are closely connected with the provided educational processes offered in the field of Economics, specialization of ‘Transport and Logistics’ as well as in full-time and part-time first-cycle studies for engineer’s degree and a newly-launched three-semester second-cycle course in the field of Logistics.

Celem pracy była ocena zwyczajów żywieniowych studentów Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego we Wrocławiu. W badaniu ankietowym zdecydowano się na celowy dobór próby. Do analizy danych ankietowych wykorzystano test Ch2. Uzyskane wyniki potwierdzają, iż większość studentów nie odżywia się prawidłowo. Najczęstszą nieprawidłowością jest nie regularne spożywanie śniadań przed wyjściem z domu, jak również nieregularne lub wcale nie spożywanie drugich śniadań w pracy lub w przerwach między zajęciami. Również spożywanie obiadów przez dużą grupę badanych było nieregularne. Przyczyną takiego stanu jest prawdopodobnie brak prawidłowych nawyków żywieniowych wśród młodych łudzi. Pośpiech młodych ludzi oraz ograniczone środki finansowe są przyczyną spożywania, przez większość badanych studentów; tylko obiadów jednodaniowych, najczęściej przygotowanych we własnym zakresie. Podstawowe produkty takie jak mięso, ryby; drób, mleko i przetwory mleczne oraz owoce i warzywa większość badanych studentów spożywała przynajmniej raz w tygodniu lub częściej. Duża grupa badanych (zwłaszcza kobiety) deklarowała częste spożywanie słodyczy.
The aim of a paper was an assessment of Wroclaw University of Economics students nutritional habits. Purposeful sample group selection was opted in this surrey. The method Ch2 was used to analyses questionnaire data. Obtained results confirm, that most of student don't nourish properly. Irregular breakfast before leaving home is the most frequent incorrectness, as well as irregular second breakfast or resignation from second breakfast at work or on classes breaks. Dinners consumption for large group of polled was irregular too. Lack of proper nutrition habits among young people is the cause of this state. Young people haste and limited finance causing that most of polled. Students consume only one course meal, mostly preparing by themselves. Basic foodstuffs i.e. meat, fishes, poultry, dairy products and fruits and vegetables or more often. Large group of students (especially women) declared eating sweets to often.
