The rapid inventions of social media in current era have changed the wellbeing of human lives. The current study aimed to explore the correlation between social media usage and undergraduate students’ psychological wellbeing in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Two research instruments were used in this study Social Media Addiction Scale-Student Form (SMAS-SF) and Flourishing Scale (FS). The first scale measures the usage capacity of social media and the second measures the psychological wellbeing of undergraduate students. The correlation between the scores obtained from the scales was determined by applying Pearson correlation formula. The positive correlation between social media usage and psychological wellbeing of undergraduate students has been found in this study. The other finding related to most preferred social media concluded that WhatsApp was most preferable social media among undergraduate students. 61% undergraduate students used the WhatsApp to engage their daily life in using social media.

Opis:
Edukacja informacyjna i źródłowa jest istotnym elementem służącym rozwijaniu podstawowych umiejętności studentów w zakresie wyszukiwania informacji, jej selekcji, krytycznej oceny i efektywnego wykorzystania. Przedmiot ten jest zazwyczaj realizowany dla studentów w bibliotekach w ramach upowszechniania modelu uczenia się przez całe życie. Studenci napotykają problemy w procesie przekazywania i przyswajania umiejętności nauczanych przez bibliotekarzy. W niniejszym artykule poddano analizie wyzwania związane z kształceniem kompetencji informacyjnych wśród studentów Uniwersytetu Ajayi Crowther. W tym celu wykorzystano kwestionariusz ankiety. W obliczeniach zastosowano metodę procentową. Na podstawie wyników badań wyciągnięto wnioski i sformułowano zalecenia dla bibliotekarzy dotyczące ustawicznego kształcenia studentów w zakresie edukacji informacyjnej i źródłowej. Wykazano, że proces ten pozwala poszerzyć kompetencje informacyjne studentów oraz odpowiednio wykorzystać zasoby biblioteki.
Information literacy programmes are important in developing students’ basic skills which are needed for searching, retrieving, evaluating and effectively using information. This is often organized by the library to prepare undergraduate students for lifelong learning. However, students often encounter problems in the process of impartation dissemination and absorption of the skills being taught by librarians. This study examines the challenges of information literacy skills impartation dissemination by undergraduate students in Ajayi Crowther University. The descriptive survey research method was adopted. Data gathered was analysed using the frequency count and simple percentages. Conclusion and recommendations were drawn on how librarians should endeavour to continuously train undergraduates on a yearly basis as this will enhance better information literacy skills impartation and improve the usage of the library information resources.

The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of using a virtual history strategy on the development of historical thinking skills among a sample of undergraduate classroom teachers from one public university located in the middle part of Jordan. To achieve this purpose, a historical thinking test was adapted from Al-Safadi (1999), and applied to one classroom with (54) students who studied Arab world history course during the 2016/2017academic year. The results of the study indicated significant differences (α = 0.05) between the pretest and posttest in the students’ historical thinking as a result of utilizing the virtual history approach. The study was concluded by proposing practical and theoretical recommendations for the field of study.

The learning to learn competence is becoming more and more important, as it enables efficient learning, is developing awareness and planning one‘s own process of learning. With empirical research, we wanted to study some of its aspects in the 4th year (undergraduate) and 1st year students (postgraduate) of the Faculties of Education in Slovenia. To establish the students‘ evaluation of their ways of learning and competence to teach we used a questionnaire. With the use of the research, we established the growth of evaluation of the majority of aspects, which shows that the learning to learn competence is related to a better evaluation of students’ own way of learning and better marks. Reported findings reveal that this competence and its aspects have a great impact on the effectiveness of learning and success of students.

This study elicited Arabic students’ perceptions regarding their language-learning strategy preferences (LLSPs). A sample of 120 undergraduate Arabic students participated. Data were collected through a questionnaire and interviews. The findings reveal that students tend to adopt a holistic view of the learning task and relate it to real-life, personal experience. Participants selected interaction with the teacher, speaking, and flashcards as their most preferred application-directed learning strategies. These selections demonstrate that Arabic students desire to be proactive in order to make the language more concrete for them, to enhance their performance, and to develop language skills that will last a lifetime. Whereas advanced level participants preferred interaction with the teacher, speaking, flashcards, and working individually, beginner level participants preferred learning grammar and group work. The empirical evidence from this study could have implications regarding theoretical models of effective Arabic language instruction, Arabic teacher education programs, and curriculum development.

Opis:
Analysis of gender may be applied to many areas of human personalities and activities, including business, science, ICT, society and policy. Thus combining gender issue and innovativeness should be explored in search of extraordinary sources of progress. The purpose of this article is to verify outcomes of one of the themes: the identifi cation of differences between women and men in functionalities and types of knowledge themes obtained from the Internet. The hypothesis was: making the Internet available does not require creative thinking skills from students in acquiring knowledge from the accessible sources online or its operationalization, thus they have to be learned as part of the teaching process. The article contains the results of a pilot survey study conducted among students. The hypothesis was confi rmed. Students using the Internet, and particularly social networks, do not creatively seek new sources of knowledge and resources, and also cannot operationalize or work independently and creatively on these resources. Internet access as such is not enough. It is necessary to for it to be refl ected in the formal transfer of knowledge in universities, as exercises, personal training, or other forms of training, to prepare students for the effi cient and effective use of the Internet.
Dokumenty Komisji Europejskiej dotyczące europejskiej perspektywy 2020 podkreślają, że zapisy równościowe co do roli kobiet i mężczyzn są dla Europy niezbędne dla Europy, aby wzmocnić wykorzystanie całego swojego potencjału. Dlatego też pozycja kobiet i mężczyzn w gospodarce i społeczeństwie jest ważnym polem badawczym w poszukiwaniu nadzwyczajnych źródeł osiągania postępu. Szczególnie w gospodarce opartej na wiedzy, gdzie innowacyjność zajmuje miejsce kluczowe. Analiza w aspekcie płci może być stosowana do biznesu, nauki, technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych, społeczeństwa i polityki. A więc także połączenie kwestii płci i innowacyjności powinny być traktowane jako poszukiwanie niezwykłych źródeł postępu. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki jednego z zadań podejmowanych przez autorów w ramach projektu badawczego zatytułowanego „Innovative Gender – nowe źródło postępu”. Identyfi kacja różnic między kobietami i mężczyznami w umiejętności pozyskiwania wiedzy z Internetu, a także jej wykorzystania (transformacji dla różnych celów) może dostarczyć pewnych uzupełniających dowodów na istnienie określonych źródeł damskiej i męskiej kreatywności. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badania pilotażowego przeprowadzonego wśród studentów. Głównym wnioskiem jest to, że zarówno kobiety jak i mężczyźni korzystali z sieci społecznych głównie jako sposobu komunikowania się ze znajomymi, poznawania nowych ludzi, codziennych rozmów o przypadkowych i osobistych sprawach oraz problemach. Ponad 50% wszystkich kobiet i mężczyzn wskazało, że korzysta z Internetu na uczelni iw pracy, ale tylko 14% kobiet i 7% mężczyzn korzystać z wielu serwisów społecznościowych, aby znaleźć informacje i wiedzę niezbędną do rozwiązania profesjonalnych i praktycznych problemów zawodowych czy naukowych. Więc pytanie brzmi, czy Internet zapewnia dostęp do wysokiej jakości wiedzy?

Aim. The article examines the characteristics of learning English in students from different cultural backgrounds – Thailand and Latvia. We aimed to gain empirical evidence of how the cultural background influences student leisure time English language learning habits and their English language learning anxiety. Concept and Methods. In the study two questionnaires were used: leisure time use of reading and writing activities in English (RWA), and English language learning anxiety scale (ELLAS). RWA included five areas of leisure time use of reading and writing activities:  using Internet or e-mail, writing regularly, reading regularly, watching TV or movies, and having checker; ELLAS consisted of four subscales - Communication Anxiety, Fear of Negative Evaluation, Test Anxiety, and English Classroom anxiety. The participants in the study were 95 undergraduate sports science program students from Thailand and Latvia – Thai students were 50, and 45 students represented Latvia. The research was carried out in two stages, first one being a pilot study. Results and Conclusions. The results showed that Thai and Latvian students showed more similarities in their leisure time use of reading and writing activities in English than differences: they often watched movies and TV, but rarely were reading and writing to improve their English. Latvian students spent more time watching TV, movies, reading regularly, using Internet or e-mail than Thai students (p < .01 and .05). Both Thai and Latvian students experienced moderately elevated communication anxiety, fear of negative evaluation, test anxiety, and English classroom anxiety. However, Thai students had higher anxiety than Latvian students in all aspects of ELLAS (independent samples t-test, statistically significant level of .01).

The results from a significant survey of international students provided us with an evidence base to understand the improved student experience this cohort may seek in what will likely be a competitive environment for attracting international students post-COVID-19. While this case study has focused on one faculty, our findings are relevant to higher education institutions across disciplines, domestically and internationally.

Background: In recent years, the interest of Polish medical students in choosing a career in surgical subspecialties has been declining. In the face of a growing demand for surgical procedures it seems essential to find the reasons responsible for that situation. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the level of interest in pursuing surgical careers among Polish medical students and to identify factors that may influence their decision. Material and methods: An anonymous questionnaire was distributed electronically among students from 11 different Polish medical universities. Results: We surveyed 595 individuals (190 male and 405 female). 48% of them declared interest in choosing surgical subspecialty as a career. The percentage of students who considered it before medical school was higher and reached almost 65%. Slight or no interest in surgery as a field of study (OR = 20.6), self-assessment of surgical predispositions as unsatisfactory (OR = 14.3), feeling unable to enter and accomplish surgical specialty (OR = 5.2), being discouraged by the partner (OR = 3.4), negative past experience with the surgical environment (OR = 3.2), not having a surgeon as a mentor (OR = 2.6), no authorship of journal articles or congress presentations (OR = 1.9) and first contact with the operating theatre >2nd year of study (OR = 1.9) were found to be the independent risk factors of abandoning a surgical career. Conclusions: Most medical students are interested in pursuing a surgical specialty at some time during their education. However, being discouraged by lifestyle issues, surgical training quality or experiencing gender discrimination, they often resign from such a career path.
