Społeczeństwo informacyjne wymaga krańcowo innego systemu edukacji niż dotychczaso-wy, ukształtowany według wymogów społeczeństwa przemysłowego. Współczesna cywilizacja oparta jest na technologiach informacyjno-komunikacyjnych (TIK) będących podstawowymi i niezbędnymi narzędziami do uzyskania, przetwarzania informacji, a w efekcie – tworzenia wiedzy. Zakłada się, że kolejna rewolucja technologiczna otworzy szkoły na intelektualny dorobek człowieka w niespotykanym dotąd stopniu i zakresie. Ale wymaga to zmia-ny samej szkoły, gdyż przyswojenie tak dużej ilości wiedzy opiera się na doświadczeniu w stoso-waniu reguł i zasad pozyskiwania i przetwarzania informacji, ogromnej wrażliwości intelektualnej, gdyż uczenie się jest sposobem wchodzenia w kulturę.
The information society requires extremely different than the existing educational system, shaped by the requirements of industrial society. Modern civilization is based on information and communication technology (ICT) that are basic and essential tools for acquiring, processing, resulting in the creation of knowledge. It is assumed that the next technological revolution will open the school on human intellectual achievements of unprecedented scope and extent. But this requires a change in the school, so as to acquire a large amount of knowledge is based on experience in the application of rules and proce-dures for the acquisition and processing of information, the vast intellectual sensitivity, because learning is a way of entering into the culture.

Editor in chief of The Pedagogical Quarterly talks with Irena Wojnar. As a long-time professor of the University of Warsaw, she remembers the importance of the International Pedagogical Congress organised 50 years ago in this university. It was a congress of the AISE/WAER association founded in 1961, and grouping educationalists from different universities and research institutes of the world. Scheduled as an important event of the liberal Polish transformation after 1956 – it took place in 1969, one year after 1968, in different and difficult times. However, it aroused keen interest of participants from all over the world. It was part of the ongoing discourse on the role and tasks of education in the everlasting “repair human things” (Comenius), as well as in the implementation of continuous civilisation changes. The congress initiated and edited the international educational journal “Paideia” (1972–1992) under the auspices of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Autorka sa, z tohto pohľadu, zameriava aj na výsledky výskumu PISA, ktoré prezentujú čitateľskú gramotnosť žiakov na Slovensku.
The author of the paper presents some futurological theories of the development of education and society. They represent an important theoretical and methodological basis for the creation of an educational society in which the educational system has an important function. In the previous but also in the present period, this system is undergoing transformational changes, the intention of which is to improve the quality of education for the needs of the educational society. In a wide range of information that also penetrates the school curriculum, it is important to be able to orientate, which is helped not only by the teacher but also by the student himself with his critical thinking. From this point of view, the author focuses on the results of the PISA research, which presents the reading literacy of students in Slovakia.

The paper presents contemporary discussion about consumerism in academia. Commercialization of higher education is widely discussed among scholars. Some of them condemn the commodi cation of higher education as well as the neoliberal approach. The others perceive the market orientation in HE as the necessity and the next step in this area development. The orientation on students as a customer is widely discussed in the literature. The author of this paper reconstructs and analyses selected problems of commercialization and consumerism in academia, including the relationship between the tutor and the student replaced by the producer- consumer relationship, grades in ation, student satisfaction and infantilization of education. Moreover, the author of the paper makes attempt to analyze di erent approaches towards consumerism in academia and presents a contrasting orientation towards problem in question.

In the context of current education reforms carried out at various levels of education, it is im-portant to ask about high quality and child friendly preschool education. As stated by Klim- -Klimaszewska, “preschool education in Poland is the first stage of education system. Its main task is not only to help parents in mentoring and education of children, but first of all to stimulate their comprehensive development and school preparation” (Klim-Klimaszewska, 2012, p. 9). Polskie uniwersytety od kilku lat przechodzą przez proces reform, jednocześnie pozostają w tyle za uczelniami państw wysokorozwiniętych. W artykule wskazano na wybrane bariery w rozwoju polskich uczelni, takie jak: problem przywództwa w polskim ustroju uniwersytetu, spór o kształt misji uniwersytetu, problemy umiędzynarodowienia, a także wybrane kwestie kulturowo-etyczne.
The aim of the text is to outline selected challenges to Polish universities in the context of transformations in Polish higher education policy. For a few years, Polish universities have been undergoing a process of reforms, but they still lag behind the universities of highly developed countries. The article presents selected barriers in the development of Polish universities, such as the problem of leadership in Polish university system, the disagreements as to the mission of university, problems of internationalization, and selected cultural and ethical issues.

The contribution is focused on the analysis between education and unemployment in the Slovak Republic. There is a reciprocal proportion between education and unemployment: the lower education, the higher unemployment. It is especially typical of long-term unemployment which is highest at the lowest level of basic education. In Slovakia, young people’s unemployment rate in the age range of 15–24 is three times higher in comparison with the OECD countries. The situation necessitates a quick solution. The education level of people and a constant rise of qualifications belong to basic assumptions needed for a decrease of unemployment, an increase in labour market flexibility, and a development of national economy.

In recent years, historians have increasingly looked at social science data in their search for sources to study the transformation period. Researchers hope that a secondary analysis of this data will expand the existing sources. This expansion promises new perspectives, while simultaneously bringing new methodological challenges to the discipline. This article deals with both: 1. It uses a history of knowledge approach to evaluate the topics and tools of transformation research. It also argues that social scientists were not only producers of knowledge but historical actors in the restructuring of the institutions of social sciences in East Germany after 1989/90. 2. With the German Socio-Economic Panel and especially the Saxonian Longitudinal Study as an example, the article refers to the content of the studies itself – in this case, the East German school as a site of life-worlds in upheaval. It concludes that the encounter of social scientists and historians is very fruitful for historians interested in the interaction of system change and everyday life. That is, the secondary analysis of qualitative and quantitative social science data compliments ‘classical’ sources of historical research by providing insights into memories and experiences at different times in the historical process.

W artykule podjęto próbę wyjaśnienia terminu retardacja tempa życia i przekształcania zasobów przyrody, podkreślono złożoność tego pojęcia oraz zaprezentowano propozycje działania dla jej upowszechniania. Retardacja przekształcania zasobów wydaje się być ważnym narzędziem wdrażania nowego podejścia do jeszcze posiadanego bogactwa przyrodniczego i usług środowiska. Wspierająca wdrażanie retardacji edukacja środowiskowa powinna wykorzystywać metody aktywnej edukacji i być rozumiana szeroko (jako środowisko przyrodniczo-społeczno-ekonomiczne), służąc społeczeństwu partycypacyjnemu – potrzebującemu ponownego oparcia się o holistyczne rozpoznawanie siebie i świata.
The article attempts to explain the term retardation of pace of life and transforming natural resources, highlights the complexity of the concept and presents proposals for action for its dissemination. Retardation of resources transformation is an important tool for the implementation of the new approach on those environmental resources and services that are left. Environmental education that supports the implementation of retardation should use active methods of education and should be interpreted widely (as an environment of natural and socio-economic character), serving the participatory public which is in need to re-build a holistic recognition of itself and the world.

Kolegium Nauczycielskie (ZKN) w Szczytnie jest dobrym przykładem przebiegu procesu tych zmian.
Poland’s political transformation in Poland in the 1980s and the close perspective of the country’s entry into the EU were the crucial reasons the Polish government was determined to change the education system and modernize the teacher training. In 1990 the Ministry of National Education established colleges as a new form of professional preparation for Polish teachers (especially in primary-school education, foreign language teaching, mathematics and Polish language teaching). The Teacher Training College (ZKN) in Szczytno is a prime example.

The article is a memoir of Professor Eugenia Anna Wesołowska. It draws a vivid picture of a distinguished andragogy professor involved in the organisation of academic life, an initiator of numerous educational activities on domestic and international levels, a thesis adviser and a great friend of students and young scholars. The author of the article discloses her own experiences of working with her dissertation adviser and attempts to draft retrospectively a short review of Professor’s achievements. Main issues were selected out of the rich output of Professor Wesołowska, which constitute the leading motive of her research. These are: educational policy, women’s education and comparative pedagogy. The andragogical idea of Professor Eugenia Wesołowska, appreciated and inspiring in the time of the political transformation in Poland, remains present and crucial up till today.
