    The proof of a concept for a new method of modulation has been presented which reduce switch count in a three-level neutral point clamped (3L-NPC) inverter. The method is an implementation of space vector modulation (SVM) by means of a prediction algorithm and sequences of transistors, which are not common in use. Those sequences make active use of clamping diodes of the inverter. The prediction algorithm analyzes possible sequences of transistors’ states and choose those which offers smaller switch count. Measurements of steady states were taken on prototype 3L-NPC.

    The aim of the paper is to present a concept of implementation of a space vector modulation (SVM) algorithm, which is used to create alternating current waveforms of changing amplitude and frequency in power inverters. The main goal of the method is to decrease the number of state changes in power transistors. It is realized by utilizing a prediction algorithm and sequences of transistors, which are not common in use. The method requires measurement of inverter output current flow. The prediction algorithm analyzes possible sequences of transistors’ states and choose those which offers smaller switch count. A decrease of about 20% was obtained for the cases tested. This paper presents simulation result for selected driving scenario. The described method decreases the number of state changes in power transistors and therefore it is a potentially good method to considerably decrease energy losses of multilevel inverter-powered drive.

    Opis:
    Multilevel inverters have been widely used in various occasions due to their advantages such as low harmonic content of the output waveform. However, because multilevel inverters use a large number of devices, the possibility of circuit failure is also higher than that of traditional inverters. A T-type three-level inverter is taken as the research object, anda diagnostic study is performed on the open-circuit fault of insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) devices in the inverter. Firstly, the change of the current path in the inverter when anopen-circuit fault of the device occurred, and the effect on the circuit switching states andthe bridge voltages were analyzed. Then comprehensively considered the bridge voltages,and proposed a fault diagnosis method for a T-type three-level inverter based on specificfault diagnosis signals. Finally, the simulation verification was performed. The simulation results prove that the proposed method can accurately locate the open-circuit fault of theinverter device, and has the advantage of being easy to implement.

    Opis:
    The neutral point clamped (NPC) three-level inverter is widely used in high-voltage and high-power applications. However, neutral point voltage oscillation (NPVO) and common-mode voltage (CMV) problems exist in the NPC three-level inverter. In this paper, an improved virtual space vector modulation (VSVM) is proposed based on the reconstruction of a virtual small vector and a virtual medium vector. Compared with the traditional VSVM, an improved VSVM can effectively reduce the CMV. On this basis, a vector conversion method is proposed to further reduce the NPVO in the whole range. Simulation results verify the effectiveness and superiority of the improved VSVM.

    The paper presents an induction generator connected to the power grid using the AC/DC/AC converter and LCL coupling filter. In the converter, both from the generator and the power grid side, three-level inverters were used. The algorithm realizing pulse width modulation (PWM) in inverters has been simplified to the maximum. Control of the induction generator was based on the indirect field oriented control (IFOC) method. At the same time, voltage control has been used for this solution. The MPPT algorithm has been extended to the variable pitch range of the wind turbine blades. The active voltage balancing circuit has been used in the inverter DC voltage circuit. Synchronization of control from the power grid side is ensured by the use of a?PLL loop with the system of preliminary suppression of undesired harmonics (CDSC).

    The paper deals with development of sensorless Direct Torque Control (DTC) system based on neural network. This network is built to solve the task of proper switching states selection based on information about electromagnetic torque and stator flux (position and magnitude) of induction motor. In fact, this technique which uses conventional switching table is not convenient for one-line and real time control for its high computation time. In order to avoid this problem a solution based on neural network is proposed. Well trained Artificial Neural Network structure can replace successfully the switching table. However, in the Neutral-Point-Clamped topology, it has an inherent problem of Neutral Point Potential (NPP) variation. In this way, a Neural Network-Direct Torque Control technique has been applied and the estimated value of the Neutral Point Potential is used, which is calculated by motor currents. This control strategy offers the possibility of selecting appropriate switching state to achieve the control of Neutral Point Potential. Simulation results verify the validity of the proposed method.

    W artykule przedstawiono nowatorski system predykcyjnego sterowania z modelem (ang. Model Predictive Control – MPC) bez-czujnikowym napędem z silnikiem klatkowym zasilanym z falownika trójpoziomowego pracującego w szerokim zakresie prędkości łącznie z osłabianiem strumienia stojana. Do ważnych zalet opracowanego układu sterowania napędu należą: bardzo wysoka dynamika regulacji momentu i strumienia, stała częstotliwość łączeń falownika i brak konieczności doboru współczynników wag w funkcji kosztów sterowania predykcyjnego. Opisano zasady teoretyczne zastosowanej optymalnej sekwencji łączeń w metodzie sterowania predykcyjnego. Przedstawione wyniki eksperymentalne napędu o mocy 50 kW potwierdzają zalety zaproponowanego systemu sterowania predykcyjnego.
    The paper presents a novel model predictive torque control scheme for three-level inverter-fed sensorless induction motor drive operated in wide speed region including field weakening. Among the important features of the developed drive are: very high dynamics, constant switching frequency and no need to adjust weighting factors in the cost function. The theoretical principles of the used optimal switching sequence predictive control methods are discussed. The experimental results measured on 50 kW drive validate performances of the proposed predictive control system.

    Zaproponowano prostą i skuteczną metodę wyznaczania wartości napięcia niezrównoważenia w obwodzie pośredniczącym trójpoziomowego falownika NPC (ang. Neutral-Point-Clamped). Zastosowanie proponowanej metody nie wymaga dodatkowych czujników pomiarowych, a nakłady obliczeniowe na realizację algorytmu są niewielkie. Do wyznaczania napięcia niezrównoważenia wykorzystuje się informacje zawarte w mierzonych prądach wyjściowych falownika. Wymagana jest znajomość impedancji obciążenia. Przedstawiono wyniki badań symulacyjnych i laboratoryjnych potwierdzających prawidłowe działanie proponowanej metody.
    A simple and effective method is proposed for evaluating the neutral-point voltage in the three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter. The method does not require extra sensors, and the use of computing resources is limited. The neutral-point voltage is estimated based on the current measurements. The proposed approach necessitates the knowledge of the load impedance. Sample simulation and experimental results are provided, confirming satisfactory working of the proposed method.

    Przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczące pasywnej stabilizacji rozkładu napięć w obwodzie pośredniczącym falownika trójpoziomowego NPC wskazujące na dobre uwarunkowania tej metody i możliwość jej wykorzystania w zastosowaniach praktycznych. Odpowiednio skonstruowana stabilizacja pasywna zapewnia stateczną pracę z podtrzymywaniem równowagi napięć i powrót napięcia niezrównoważenia do zerowej wartości średniej po ewentualnym zaburzeniu tej równowagi.
    The paper presents and discusses some test results pertaining to the passive control of the DC-link midpoint voltage in the three-level NPC inverter. The results indicate that the method is well-behaved, insuring stable operation with balanced voltages across both capacitors in the DC link, convergence to a voltage balance after possible disturbances and low sensitivity to asymmetries in the inverter load.

    Opis:
    In railway tractive vehicles, three-phase PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) inverters generate parasitic Differential-Mode Voltages (DMV) and Common-Mode Voltages (CMV). Parasitic voltages are a side effect of using the width modulation to shape the phase-to-phase inverter’s voltage. In this article, the authors present a mathematical description of the DM and CM voltages and carry out their spectral analysis. Based on the spectral harmonics analysis, the authors present a method for filtration of harmonics of DM and CM voltages aimed at limiting the capacitance parasitic currents: due to DM voltage – phase-to-phase parasitic current and CM voltage – ground parasitic currents. As the final result of the tests, almost complete elimination of leakage parasitic current form PE shock protection system was achieved.
    W kolejowych pojazdach trakcyjnych trójfazowe falowniki MSI (Modulacja Szerokości Impulsów) wytwarzają pasożytnicze napięcia różnicowe (Differential Mode Voltage) i wspólne (Common Mode Voltage). Pasożytnicze napięcia są skutkiem ubocznym stosowania modulacji szerokościowej do kształtowania napięć międzyfazowych falownika. W artykule autorzy przedstawiają opis matematyczny napięć DM oraz CM i przeprowadzają ich analizę widmową. Na podstawie przeprowadzanej analizy autorzy przedstawiają metodę filtracji wybranych harmonicznych napięcia DM i CM dla ograniczania wytwarzanych przez nie prądów pasożytniczych: (DM) - międzyfazowych i (CM) – doziemnych. W wyniku badań osiągnięto prawie całkowitą eliminację pasożytniczego prądu upływu doziemnego z systemu ochrony przeciwporażeniowej PE.

    To improve the reliability of motor system, this paper investigates the sensor fault diagnosis methods for T-type inverter-fed dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. Generally, a T-type three-level inverter-fed dual three-phase motor drive utilizes four phase-current sensors, two direct current (DC)-link voltage sensors and one speed sensor. A series of diagnostic methods have been comprehensively proposed for the three types of sensor faults. Both the sudden error change and gradual error change of sensor faults are considered. Firstly, the diagnosis of speed sensor fault was achieved by monitoring the error between the rotating speed of stator flux and the value from speed sensor. Secondly, the large high-frequency voltage ripple of voltage difference between the estimated voltage and the reference voltage was used to identify the voltage sensor faults, and the faulty voltage sensor was determined according to the deviation of voltage difference. Thirdly, the abnormal current amplitude on harmonic subspace was adopted to identify the current sensor faults, and the faulty current sensor was located by distinguishing the current trajectory on harmonic subspace. The experiments have been taken on a laboratory prototype to verify the effectiveness of the proposed fault diagnosis schemes.
