Opis:: In recent years, the speech-language pathology has developed dynamically. It plays a growing role not only in the area of education but also in the field of medicine. Teaching correct articulation is just one of possible challenges faced by speechlanguage pathologists. The multidisciplinary context of that field of knowledge can be seen in various subfields of speech-language pathology which have evolved over time. Therefore, the primary objective of the conducted research was to assess the awareness of the importance of speech-language pathologists in everyday life of children and adults. The research was carried out among 50 respondents in the city of Poznań and provided the ground for discussion on the subject being the core issue of the presented paper.

Opis:: Healthcare workers, especially those with direct patient contact are amongst professions with the highest rate of workrelated musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), physical therapists (PTs) being one of them. Our objective was to review current knowledge relating to the prevalence, risk factors and prevention of WMSDs among PTs. Pubmed, Google Scholar and PEDro databases were searched for terms relating to WMSDs in PTs from inception to 2015. The prevalence of WMSDs among PTs was high, with lifetime prevalence reported as 55–91%, and 12-month prevalence ranges 40–91.3%, and the lower back as the most frequently affected, with estimates of a lifetime prevalence ranging 26–79.6%, and a 12-month prevalence ranging 22–73.1%, followed most often by the neck, upper back and shoulders. The major risk factors for workrelated low back pain (LBP) were: lifting, transferring, repetitive movements, awkward and static postures, physical load, treating a large number of patients in a single day and working while injured. Low back pain seems to be age- and genderrelated with a higher prevalence in females, younger PTs and PTs working in rehabilitation settings. Physical therapists, as a consequence of work-related LBP, may seek treatment, modify their daily living and leisure (lifestyle) activities, use aids and equipment or change their specialty area either within the profession or by leaving it. Skills and knowledge as to correct body mechanics do not prevent work-related injuries. Mechanical aids used for a patient transfer should be adopted by PTs and new strategies should be developed to reduce their WMSDs without compromising the quality of treatment. Autorka odnosi się do współczesnej wiedzy na temat wad wymowy, podkreślając różnice pomiędzy tradycyjnym a nowym ujęciem tego zaburzenia. Wskazuje nowe zadania, jakie powinny zostać uwzględnione w programach kształcenia w związku z obecnością w przestrzeni internetowej różnorodnych informacji, często niezgodnych ze współczesną wiedzą na temat postępowania w dyslalii, a także z innymi problemami, np. z różnym rozumieniem interdyscyplinarności logopedii. Analizuje wybrane zagadnienia związane z przygotowaniem programu kształcenia w zakresie zaburzeń realizacji fonemów z perspektywy pożądanych cech przyszłego logopedy. Przedstawiona praca jest głosem w dyskusji na temat kształcenia logopedów w zakresie dyslalii.
The following study refers to the issue of education in the field of phoneme implementation disorders, which is one of the important elements of the program of speech therapy – postgraduate studies. The author refers to the contemporary knowledge about speech impediments, emphasizing the differences between the traditional and the new approach to this disorder. One also indicates new tasks that should be included in educational programs due to the presence of various information in the Internet – often inconsistent with the modern knowledge embracing the management of dyslalia, as well as other problems related to, for example, different understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of speech therapy. Additionally the author analyses selected problems connected with the preparation of the educational program in the field of phoneme implementation disorders from the perspective of the expected features of the future speech therapist. The presented work is a voice in the discussion on the education of speech therapists in the field of dyslalia.

Opis:: Introduction. Ability to work is most often defined as a relationship between a person’s resources and requirements specific to a particular type of work. It is the result of interaction between job requirements in terms of physical and mental strain, capabilities and skills of the employee, as well as his/her health condition and own evaluation of functioning in a given organizational and social situation. Objective. The primary objective of the study was to evaluate the current value of the Work Ability Index (WAI) in a sample of employees in Poland. Materials and method. The study sample was selected purposefully from 422,000 employees covered by the largest occupational health provider in Poland. The standard WAI questionnaire provided by CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) methodology was voluntary and completed anonymously by 688 employees within 12 months (0.16% response rate). The results were statistically analyzed using the Pearson’s chi-squared test and correlation coefficient, independent- sample T test and one-way analysis of variance (p < 0.05). Results. It was found that the average value of WAI was 37.5 ± 7.7, and 37% of the participants represented low to moderate ability to work. The results showed no significant correlation between the WAI value and its 7 compounds and demographic variables. Nonetheless, a dependency between WAI level and industrial branch was observed. Conclusions. Subjects with moderate and low WAI (1/3 of the study population) had particular indications to implement prophylactic actions, especially for the health care employees and civil servants, whose ability to work may be subject to accelerated deterioration.

Opis:: The dynamic development of research focusing on effective elements in psychotherapy has revealed not only which therapeutic techniques are particularly effective in treating specific disor-ders, but also which elements of the therapeutic relationship make psychotherapy work. The latter include therapeutic alliance and therapist’s empathy. Both of these concepts are complex, multidimensional constructs; they seem to share one crucial element – the humanization (mentalization) of the client: the fact that the therapist ascribes psychological depth and agency to his/her patient. In this context, we formulate a question concerning the factors that might facilitate or interfere with this kind of therapist’s attitude. We look for an answer to this question not only in the literature on psychotherapy but also in the area of social psychology. Taking into consideration the conclusions derived from both research domains, we formulate recommendations for clinical practice intended to humanize the relationship between the therapist and his/her client. We also formulate research questions aimed at empirical verification of the recommendations.

Opis:: Czucie ciała pacjenta jako część profesji terapeutów manualnych to tematyka powiązana z pojęciem wiedzy niedyskursywnej. Podstawowym celem artykułu jest przybliżenie czytelnikowi tych zagadnień jako swoistego pomostu, który pozwala interdyscyplinarnie łączyć nauki społeczne z naukami o zdrowiu. Cel ten zakłada przede wszystkim uświadomienie istnienia pewnego elementu wiedzy fizjoterapeutycznej, który – wbrew temu, czego wymaga dominująca w naukach medycznych zobiektywizowana forma prezentacji wiedzy i badań – łatwo nie poddaje się językowemu wyjaśnieniu i kwantyfikacji. Wraz z tym założeniem najważniejszymi kwestiami, na których koncentruje się artykuł, są: uwrażliwienie na bariery, na jakie napotykają badacze próbujący badać zjawisko czucia ciała pacjenta przy użyciu metod jakościowych; przedstawienie tego, czym jest kompetencja czucia ciała pacjenta; w jaki sposób się jej naucza i ją nabywa oraz w jaki sposób problematyzuje ona dominujące standardy naukowości w naukach medycznych.
A sense of the patient’s body as a part of the profession of manual therapists is a subject related to the concept of non-discursive knowledge. The main goal of the article is to familiarize the reader with these issues as a certain bridge that allows for an interdisciplinary link between social sciences and health sciences. Above all, this aim assumes spreading awareness of the existence of a certain component of physiotherapeutic knowledge, which – contrary to the requirements of the dominant in medical sciences objectified form of the presentation of knowledge and researches –does not easily subject to quantification and explanation in linguistic terms. Thus, along with this assumption, the most important points of references for this article include: sensitizing to barriers encountered by researches who try to study the phenomenon of feeling the patient’s body by using qualitative methods; presenting what the competence of feeling the patient’s body means; revealing how this competence is taught and acquired; and showing how it addresses the dominant scientific standards in medical sciences.

Opis:: Types of oncological rehabilitation and its objectives are described. Opis:: Popularność metody werbo-tonalnej w środowisku polskich logopedów wciąż rośnie, ale okrojony dostęp do rzetelnych informacji powoduje, że jej potencjał nie jest w pełni wykorzystywany. Z tego powodu istotne było poznanie poziomu świadomości polskich logopedów oraz ich opinii na temat wykorzystania elementów metody werbo-tonalnej w terapii logopedycznej różnych zaburzeń mowy. W celu zebrania materiału badawczego został stworzony kwestionariusz ankiety w internetowym formularzu. Wyniki badań wykazały stosunkowo wysoki poziom świadomości polskich logopedów na temat wykorzystania elementów metody werbo-tonalnej w terapii logopedycznej różnych zaburzeń mowy. Specjaliści często wskazywali na efekty, które bywają spektakularne, zwłaszcza w przypadku, gdy inne metody zawiodły.
The popularity of the verbo-tonal method continues to grow among Polish speech therapists, but limited access to reliable information means that its potential is not fully exploited. For this reason, it was important to find out the level of awareness of Polish speech therapists and their opinions on the use of the elements of the verbo-tonal method in speech thearpy of various speech disorders. In order to collect the research material a survey was created in the form of an online questionnaire. The results of the study showed a relatively high level of awareness among Polish speech therapists on the use of the elements of the verbo-tonal method in speech therapy of various speech disorders. Specialists often pointed to the effects, which can sometimes be impressive, especially when other methods have failed.

Opis:: In this article, the author examines the relationship between selected aspects of psychological flexibility and the experience of the burnout syndrome among professionally active speech therapists. The author presents results from a correlation analysis (n = 143) of the relationship between the burnout syndrome (OLBI) and selected aspects of psychological flexibility: experience avoidance (MEAQ-30), cognitive fusion (CFQ), and acceptance and action (AAQ-II). These results indicate that there is a statistically significant relationship (p < 0.05) between burnout and non-acceptance and action (0.38), cognitive fusion (0.56), as well as the following components of avoidance (0.4): procrastination (0.37), repression/denial (0.33) and the resistance to stress (–0.26). The conclusions emphasize the need to carry out burnout prevention therapy among speech therapists which should involve instruction on the skills that make up the different aspects of psychological flexibility.
W artykule podjęto próbę przedstawienia zależności pomiędzy wybranymi aspektami elastyczności psychologicznej a doświadczaniem syndromu wypalenia zawodowego wśród czynnych zawodowo logopedów. Zaprezentowano wyniki badań korelacyjnych (n = 143) nad zależnościami pomiędzy syndromem wypalenia zawodowego (OLBI) a wybranymi aspektami elastyczności psychologicznej: unikaniem doświadczenia (MEAQ-30), fuzją poznawczą (CFQ) oraz akceptacją i działaniem (AAQ-II). Wyniki te wskazują na istnienie istotnych statystycznie zależności (p < 0,05) pomiędzy wypaleniem zawodowym a brakiem akceptacji i działaniem (0,38), fuzją poznawczą (0,56), jak również składowymi unikania działania: awersją do stresu (0,4), prokrastynacją (0,37), wyparciem/zaprzeczeniem (0,33) i wytrzymałością na stres (–0,26). We wnioskach podkreślono zasadność prowadzenia profilaktyki wypalenia zawodowego w grupie logopedów poprzez edukację w zakresie umiejętności składających się na poszczególne aspekty elastyczności psychologicznej.
