    Katolicką interpretację Pisma św. charakteryzuje współistnienie zasad teologicznych i metod naukowych. Tak rozumiana egzegeza teologiczna sama z kolei wymaga uzasadnienia teologicznego. W jego poszukiwaniu autor artykułu sięgnął do dokumentów Międzynarodowej Komisji Teologicznej. W tekście ukazany został teologiczny fundament zarówno dla tzw. wielkich zasad interpretacji Biblii, jak i konieczności stosowania metody historyczno-krytycznej. W zakończeniu przedstawiono propozycje godne uwagi w interpretacji biblijnej. Spośród nich najbardziej interesująca wydaje się przede wszystkim niemożliwa do zdefiniowania dwubiegunowość procesu egzegezy.
    The Catholic interpretation of the Holy Scripture is characterised by coexistence of theological principles and scientific methods. Theological exegesis so understood itself requires theological justification. In search of the latter the author of the article referred to the International Theological Commission’s documents. A theological basis for both the so-called “great principles of the interpretation” of the Bible and the necessity to apply the historical-critical method are presented in the text. The conclusion deals with suggestions worthy to be considered in the Biblical interpretation. Bipolarism of the exegesis process that is impossible to be defined is first of all to be heeded.

    Opis:
    Second Vatican Council took over from the first Vatican Council the doctrine on infallible teaching of the Bishop of Rome, approved it and presented in more complete context. It is the teaching of Dogmatic Constitution on the Church Lumen gentium on infallibility of bishops when together with the pope they exercise the Church's Magisterium, and on supernatural sense of faith of all people, thanks to which they cannot get lost in faith. International Theological Commission issued “Sensus fidei” in the life of the Church, a document which deals with the issue of supernatural sense of faith of all people of God. This document presents sufficient theology of sensus fidei and therefore it is possible to attempt to place the dogma about the pope’s infallibility into more complete context which sensus fidei is a part of. Three carriers of infallibility in the Church: the pope, the college of bishops and sensus fidei are complementary to one another when it comes to explanation and defence of the divine Revelation. None of them can form anything new in relation to the Revelation. All together serve infallibility given to the Church by the Spirit of Truth.

    This paper discusses the issue of the sense of faith (sensus fidei) in the life of the Church. The author first describes the contemporary social context in which discussing the sensus fidei is meaningful. He then presents the nature of the sensus fidei and evaluates some major definitions of this concept. Emphasis is placed upon the biblical teaching on this spiritual gift and the milestones in the development of this idea. The author examines the manifestations of the sensus fidei in the personal life of the believer and in the communal life of the Church. He shows the living connection between the sensus fidei and the Magisterium Ecclesiae. The author concludes with his reflection on the dispositions needed by all believers for authentic participation in the sensus fidei. Ecumenical aspects of the sensus fidei still remain an important topic for Christian theologians. The relationship between the sensus fidei and public or majority opinion is a very delicate question. For that reason, the magisterium and theologians must constantly work to constitute the clear criteria for discernment of the authentic sensus fidei.

    The article presents the fundamental aspects of the encyclical Fides et ratio of John Paul II concerning the historical and theological context of contemporary culture. It indicates current problems in the harmonious existence of societies that function according to paradigms contrary to the absolute truth of the theological subject. The errors resulting from modernism (subjective rationalism, the cognitive negation of faith) and postmodernism (relativization of truth, atheism and antitheism, the reductionism of faith) are discussed. Further, the existential value of religious faith is demonstrated through the correlation of meaning/sense and truth. In doing so, this article serves as an apologetic for the rational nature of faith. Truth is emphasized as a gift both contained in and received from God’s Revelation, a gift necessary for discovering the sense of human reality.
    Artykuł przedstawia fundamentalne aspekty encykliki Fides et ratio Jana Pawła II w odniesieniu do kontekstu historycznego i teologicznego współczesnej kultury. Wskazuje na aktualne problemy w harmonijnym egzystowaniu społeczeństw funkcjonujących według paradygmatów sprzecznych z prawdą absolutną stanowiącą przedmiot teologiczny. Omówione są tu błędy wynikające z modernizmu (subiektywny racjonalizm, poznawcza negacja wiary), postmodernizmu (relatywizacja prawdy, ateizm i antyteizm, redukcjonizm wiary). Wyjaśniono wartość egzystencjalną wiary religijnej jako ukazującej korelację sensu i prawdy, w ten sposób dokonując apologii racjonalnego charakteru wiary. Wyakcentowano prawdę jako dar zawarty w Bożym Objawieniu, niezbędny do odkrycia sensu ludzkiej rzeczywistości.

It indicates current problems in the harmonious existence of societies functioning according to paradigms contrary to the absolute truth constituting the theological subject. The errors resulting from modernism (subjective rationalism, cognitive negation of faith) and postmodernism (relativization of truth, atheism and antitheism, reductionism of faith) are discussed here. The existential value of religious faith was explained as showing the correlation of meaning/sense and truth. In doing so, apologizing for the rational nature of faith. The truth was emphasized as a gift contained e received from God’s Revelation, necessary for discovering the sense of human reality.
