Opis:

In his metatheoretical deliberations on the subject and the methods used in the sacra doctrina Thomas Aquinas does not refer to the four causes of mental model or even the typology of scientific questions, advanced by Aristotle in Posterior Analytics. As a result, in the first issue of his commentary he gives not four, but five articles. It was dictated by the consistent use within the theology developed by the metaphysics of being as existing and manifesting its existence through five transcendental properties, ie, the reality of unity, individuality, truth and goodness. This behaviour of the theologian, who is explaining the intricacies of shots in the relevant field for himself, and by reference to the correct application of philosophy and other sciences, in the opinion of Thomas is the right way to implement the guideline contained in formulas auctoritates: Crede ut intelligas (Augustine) fidem si potes rationemque coniunge (Boethius), fides quaerens intellectum (Anselm). At the same time it allows him to emphasize the difference between theology and revealed theology, which is part of metaphysics. In his opinion, the metaphysical consideration take into account the concept of being as existing, and in the sacra doctrina we use the concept of being as a creature, because it is a derivative of one of the articles of faith.

In discussion in which there participate almost all intellectuals (including the lawyers) who deal with broadly understood social sciences, the sintagma of human rights has been detectable for centuries. Its understanding however has been and still is ideologically conditioned. The present paper was inspired by Jerzy Kolarzewski’s monograph on Idea praw jednostki w pismach Braci Polskich. U narodzin nowożytniej koncepcji praw człowieka (The idea of rights of an individual as depicted in the papers of Polish Brethren. The genesis of modern concept of human rights) Warszawa 2009. The present contribution, apart from presenting the aforementioned study, tries to make a general reflection on the method of conducting legal history research by those who are engaged in seeking the links of “genetic” characters between the legal history phenomena and the phenomena of contemporary law. In other words the researchers that come into play are those who try to arrive at the moments of “concepts” of contemporary legal concepts, as set in history. These researchers try to juxtapose them upon the “genetic principle”.

The intention of the author is to encourage the methodological reflection on the possibility of using the grounded theory methodology in the analysis of the situation of a person affected by a chronic somatic disease and their family. The author presents the key assumptions of classical grounded theory methodology developed by Barney G. Glaser and Anselm L. Strauss. Then, the author describes the constructivist grounded theory methodology by Kathy Charmaz, comparing its concept with classical approach. The rest of the text presents the experience of chronic somatic disease as a research area in which the methodology of grounded theory may be useful. Referring to the system model of the family, the author argues that the disease impacts the patient and their family. It should be considered by a researcher who uses the grounded theory methodology.

Problematyka dobrobytu społecznego od kilku lat zyskuje na popularności jako temat analiz i opracowań naukowych z zakresu szeroko pojętych nauk społecznych oraz jako interesująca kwestia dla opracowań publicystycznych. Z oczywistych względów spowodowało to powstanie i nawarstwienie się problemów definicyjnych i metodologicznych związanych z tymi kwestiami. Mimo upływu lat wciąż nie ma, pomijając oczywiste kwestie szczegółowe, powszechnego konsensusu co do tego, czy w istocie jest dobrobyt i jak powinien być mierzony. Niniejsze opracowanie ma na celu omówienie oraz krytyczną analizę pojawiających się definicji oraz miar dobrobytu spo-łecznego. W celu realizacji tematu zakłada się dokonanie pogłębionej analizy literaturowej oraz empiryczną analizę krytyczną kwestii definicyjnych i metodologicznych występujących w opracowaniach specjalistycznych i naukowych.
The problems of social welfare during the years has gained popularity as a subject of analysis and scientific studies in the social sciences and as well as an interesting issue for journalists. For obvious reasons this has created several definitional and methodological problems. Despite the years it still has not resulted in creating specific, universal consensus in the field of common definition and measurement. This study aims to discuss and critically analyze definitions and measures of social welfare. In order to implement the aim the author shall make an analysis of the literature and empirical studies found in specialized studies and research.

Opis:

The paper analyzes the cognitive functions of metaphors present in both colloquial and scientific discourse. First, presented is the history of research into linguistic metaphors, followed by a discussion of the psycholinguistic turn towards metaphors as thought schemas (George Lakoff and Mark Johnson), as well as metaphoricality embodied in gestures, images and behaviors and their socio-cultural contexts. Based on the analysis of metaphors in the natural sciences, mainly in physics (Max Black, Mary Hesse, Thomas Kuhn) as well as in psychology (Douwe Draaisma), the heuristic and methodological functions of metaphors in science are discussed. Finally, on this basis, a general model of the cognitive functions of metaphor is constructed in which, apart from the cognitive communicative functions, emphasized are also the pragmatic aspects of metaphorical thinking.

The biography of Professor Jan Żak resulted largely from the spirit of the times in which he lived, but also from his open, curious personality. He touched the warfare, and his professional life took place in the realities of the People's Republic of Poland; he also witnessed its dramatic end. The aim of this article is not only to recall the methodological and theoretical foundations of J. Żak's scientific work, but also to try to answer the question about the contemporary methodology of archeology, practiced by the Professor's students and subsequent generations.

On March 23rd, 2023 the 100th anniversary of Professor Jan Żak’s birth was marked with an exhibition and a seminar meant to present the modern archeology he had been creating. In addition to Professor’s scientific achievements, there were fragments presented of three documentaries to illustrate his involvement into popularization of archeology. The article discusses also Professor’s work and scientific activities in the field of early medieval archeology, methodology of archaeology and general prehistory, widely recognized and appreciated not only in Poland but also abroad. In 1945 Jan Żak took part in the military operations of the 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division, and his professional life took place in the realities of the People’s Republic of Poland. Particularly important were his organizational achievements as well as scientific contacts with researchers from Western Europe. The article also presents the direction of contemporary archeology methodology established by J. Żak, continued by his students and subsequent generations or archaeologists.

Opis:

This article discusses the issue of historical method as addressed by different authors in the pages of the Historical Quarterly. The focus here is both on methodological enunciations and on the practical application of specific methodological approaches. The analysis of the articles and reviews published in the journal has allowed the author to specify some key aspects of the methodological debate in question and to highlight the role it played in the modernisation of the journal’s methodological profile. Throughout the Lvov period, the journal was dominated by the positivistic “critical emploi”. However, the catalogue of methodological problems discussed in its articles was significantly bigger than that typically addressed within the confines of positivistic historiography, and the journal’s authors managed to remain true to the ideal of open scholarship. Such an attitude prevented them from ignoring attempts to modernise historical studies. It was the discussion of new historiographical trends and of various problems of modern history (from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries) that provided an opportunity for methodological novelties to find their way into the journal’s content. The journal’s authors did not avoid discussing different aspects of their profession, but instead tried to keep track of the way it was changing.
Przedmiotem artykułu są zagadnienia metodologiczne pojawiające się na łamach „Kwartalnika Historycznego” w latach 1887–1939. Analiza zawartości roczników czasopisma prowadzi do wniosku o dominującej roli metodologii pozytywistycznej. Poniżej wyjaśnione zostaną przyczyny utrzymującej się pozycji owego „krytycznego emploi” przez cały okres lwowski czasopisma, a także jego renesans po odzyskaniu przez Polskę niepodległości w 1918 r. Ukazane zostaną także przejawy metodologicznych innowacji, które na łamy czasopisma zaczęły przenikać w latach 20.–30. XX w., przede wszystkim w związku z omawianiem nowych nurtów w światowej historiografii.

The subject of this article is the symbol mechanism proposed by J.F. Drewnowski as a tool for the accurate formulation of sentences in science, including theology. The tool consists of three elements: classical propositional calculus, classical predicate calculus without variable functors and constant functor of the elementary proposition f (x,y,z). This sentence contains three arguments of three different types that correspond to the frame of reference, things and qualities of things. The purpose of this article is to show the language apparatus in the context of author’s other works as well as explain the terms characteristic for the author in order to enable the assessment of the value and timeliness of this idea.

Opis:

The scientific methodology of management science (MSc) is consistent in terms of direction with the overall methodology of sciences. Still, it continues to pose significant challenges. One such challenge is the problem of system characteristics of MSc methodology at the highest level of scientific practice, i.e. praxeology and systems theory. There are also the problems of MSc synthesis, i.e. the definition of its universal scope, in the light of its increasing diversity and specialisation of domains. This paper aims to elaborate on the achievements to date in management science on the grounds of the systemic-praxeological approach, scientific synthesis of methodology, with a particular focus on the role of reasoning and inference.  My assertion is that methodology is a subsystem of the core of primary scientific activity of MSc, comprising the com- ponents of scientific practice focused around the scientific method (methods). Its objective domain extends beyond the cognitive function, also encompassing value assignment, determination of post-diagnosis scientific action, decisions about scientific models and implementation of scientific models –CARNI system. The scientific methodology of MSc is specifically a product of scientific problems as well as the goals, principles and methods used to solve them, forming an exceedingly complex system.

This article is yet another contribution to a discussion on a grammar handbook on Kashubian written by Hanna Makurat (2016) and, directly, a reply to her text published in edition 53 of the SFPS. First and foremost, it is a presentation of the history of the discussion of Gramatika… in a context of extra-content strategies employed by the author in the dispute that has arisen. Next, 13 linguistic phenomena have been presented (related to spelling, phonetics, morphology, vocabulary and syntax) in relation to which Hanna Makurat clearly referred to her opponents’ criticism in her text published in the SFPS. An analysis has shown that in 12 of them, the reviewers’ comments were fully justified. Last but not least, general and methodological issues are touched upon with reference to grammar itself and the discussion of it to date.

The concept of “the beginning and end of history” in Serbian historiosophy. Dominant problematic and methodological featuresIn this study, the most representative and (importantly) not easily methodologically categorised historiosophical concepts of the Serbian state and nation are taken into consideration. Among these, the most elementary point of reference is that of “the beginning and end”. On the one hand the Serbian philosophy of history – dependant both on common historiosophical concepts and native ideas – demonstrates its connections with orientations of a post-Hegelian background; while on the other connections can be seen with the Providentialist historiosophy dominant in the first part of the 20th century in Serbia and, nowadays, taking into account history in Soteriologic and Eschatological terms – Christian historiosophy (more strictly: the Orthodox theology of history based on the Russian pattern), as well as eclectic historiosophy referring to the contamination of indigenous folk tradition and ethicised Orthodoxy (which in turn synthesises mythic and messianic elements). Within all perspectives and methodological practices, the very thought enabling the whole history of Serbia and the Serbs to be grasped – referring at the same time either to constant casual mechanisms concerning the national consciousness or to the variously-defined national psyche – is co-constructed and present in all ideas: the concept of “the beginning and end”. Within this concept, several events and historical figures – forming a constitutional and basic domain of meaning with its potential as loci communes – are grasped: the beginning of Nemanjić’s state, St. Sava as the “Serbian beginning and end”, and the very central event – the Battle of Kosovo – within the transcendental frame – as the beginning of the cyclically repetitive “holy history”, etc. Kategorie początku i końca dziejów w serbskiej historiozofii – dominanty problemowe i metodologiczneArtykuł omawia najbardziej reprezentatywne i – co istotne – wymykające się jednoznacznej kategoryzacji metodologicznej ujęcia historiozofii dziejów państwa i narodu serbskiego, w których kategoria „początku i końca” stanowi elementarny i stały punkt odniesienia. XX wieku historiozofią prowidencjalistyczną i – także współcześnie – ujmującą historię w perspektywie soteriologicznej i eschatologicznej – chrześcijańską (a dokładniej – wzorowaną na rosyjskiej – prawosławną teologią historii) oraz ukształtowaną w oparciu o tradycję ludową i zetnizowane prawosławie eklektyczną historiozofią syntezującą pierwiastki mityczne i mesjanistyczne. Niezależnie od perspektyw i strategii metodologicznych historiozoficzną refleksję umożliwiającą ogarnięcie całości dziejów Serbii i Serbów, a przy tym wskazującą na stałe mechanizmy sprawcze lokalizowane w sferze świadomości, bądź też rozmaicie rozumianej psychiki narodowej, współtworzy elementarna – obecna we wszystkich koncepcjach – kategoria „początku i końca”. W jej obrębie mieszczą się konstytuujące podstawową sferę sensów i mające status loci communes najważniejsze wydarzenia i postaci historyczne (początek państwa i świętej dynastii Nemanjiciów; św. Sava jako „serbski początek i koniec”; centralne wydarzenie – bitwa na Kosowym Polu – w wymiarze transcendentnym – „początek” cyklicznie powtarzającej się „historii świętej”, itd.).

The instrument of evaluation is being more and more valued, and the need to deploy it is perceivable in almost every field of activity. Evaluation should impose rational actions, therefore it has the same importance for the public sector as the market mechanism for the private sector. The visibly growing popularity of evaluation research results from modern tendencies of organization management (among others Total Quality Management, New Public Management), and in the context of the European Union from the increasing role of structural funds. This paper has a survey character and deals with problems of evaluation in the wide perspective. The essential aspect of study is the methodology conducting evaluation of structural fund. In this paper the peculiarities of using different methods during individual evaluation phases have taken into account and preliminarily assessed their usefulness. Author has done the review of literature, legislation and Polish and UE documentation, as well as evaluation reports with the aim of indicating tendency in the application of quantitative data in evaluation.
Ewaluacja staje się coraz bardziej doceniana, a potrzeba jej prowadzenia zauważana jest w niemal każdej dziedzinie działalności. Ewaluacja powinna wymuszać racjonalność działań, jest więc dla sektora publicznego tym, czym mechanizm rynkowy dla sektora prywatnego. Obecna rosnąca popularność badań ewaluacyjnych wynika ze współczesnych tendencji w zakresie zarządzania organizacjami (m.in. Total Ouality Management, New Public Management), a w kontekście Unii Europejskiej z wzrastającej roli funduszy strukturalnych. Niniejsza praca ma charakter przeglądowy i porusza problematykę ewaluacji w szerokim ujęciu. Kluczowy aspekt analizy stanowią zagadnienia metodologiczne związane z ewaluacją funduszy strukturalnych. Autorka dokonała przeglądu literatury przedmiotu, aktów prawnych oraz dokumentacji polskiej i unijnej, a także raportów ewaluacyjnych w celu wskazania tendencji w zakresie aplikacji metod ilościowych w ewaluacji.

The author describes the nature of the legal documentation related to applications for the approval of tariffs for access to and use of railway infrastructure. It also outlines the dispute between infrastructure managers and the President of the UTK, and the railway undertakings who apply for access to the documents in question. Gaining access to this documentation is necessary in order to calculate the amount of damages incurred in connection with an incorrect implementation of Directive 2001/14/EC.

The paper aims to present the most important works of Czesław Głombik, in which he analysed the philosophical and historical-philosophical legacy of his university teacher, Władysław Tatarkiewicz. It was thanks to Tatarkiewicz, inter alia, that Głombik undertook research on the history of Polish philosophy. Głombik’s most important areas of interest in the history of philosophy and his research methods are discussed on the basis of his works devoted to Tatarkiewicz. The paper is enriched with personal memories and correspondence.

Opis:

The paper seeks to bring home to theorists and practitioners of education one of the branches of pedagogical thought, namely existential pedagogy. The main line of thinking in pedagogy can be defined in the following way: the point is to help people to overcome their banal existence and help them to choose a way towards authentic existence. Thus formulated watchword of this trend opens a new perspective on pedagogical thinking of great importance both theoretical and practical. It is true that in the end of the 1960s the peculiar vogue for existentialism was in the wane. Nevertheless it brought about a vivid interest in philosophy, introduced a new approach in many domains of science, including pedagogy. Consequently, the reality of education and its planning could better be recognized. By opening to what is non-verifiable, existentialism made it possible to seek after the sense of existence and education (interest in the noetic dimension), and to quest after a climate in which one could adopt an attitude of openness and overcome abstract categories (V. Frankl). The very categories of existentialism are significant, starting with the category of „existence” (Lat. existere - take place, exist, appear, be outside, go towards). Owing to existentialism such categories as „freedom,” experience etc. have clearly received a dynamic dimension in pedagogy. The author points to existentialism as a branch of contemporary philosophical thought with which is connected its appearance in pedagogical thought. The author devotes much attention, within the framework of basic problems of existential pedagogy, to the tasks and objectives of education. He does this by turning our attention to the axiology of existential pedagogy, understanding of the educational relationship, the role of educator/teacher and pupil/student in the overall dynamism of the educational process. Then he goes on to outline an existential approach to the methodology of education and instruction. By showing the main aspects of the existentialist trend in pedagogical thought, the paper may become a help in understanding not only how to approach the reality of education in the future, but also how to understand many ideas that have been imported to pedagogical thought by existentialism. Undoubtedly, existentialism has contributed to the recognition of the role of human experiences and emotions in the formation of personality. This can also be seen as an important element in the formation of a society that is more capable of empathy, dialogue, reconciliation, and sensitivity. It is especially valuable of existentialism that it has directed pedagogical thinking towards planning (in relation with the be-project idea) and the carrying out of plans in the future. They call for the climate of empathy, agreement, dialogue, and collaboration with others. Existentialism has faced criticism, but has also won great popularity and recognition. At least some of these attitudes are illustrated in the paper. Generally, one can say that undoubtedly existentialism has had its role in stressing a living concrete anew in pedagogical thought. Among other things, it has contributed a lot to the issue of coming to terms between individualism and socialization, subjectivism and objectivism, solving these problems by way of compromise between the two kinds of opposition.

Tym razem Autor omawia orzeczenia TK wydane przez pełny skład Trybunału, ale tylko te, w których wyznaczono więcej niż jednego sprawozdawcę. Opracowanie nie jest analizą prawniczą. Autor pokazuje, jak w różnych okresach funkcjonowania TK ucierały się stanowiska z wykorzystaniem instytucji referentów.
The article is a continuation of the considerations presented by the author in the study ‘A Court of Peers – Political economy behind the triumph and crisis of the Polish Constitutional Court’ (‘The Voice of Law’ 2020, vol. 3, no. 5, item 6), in which it was indicated that the functioning of the Constitutional Court during the systemic transform- ation could be described by means of the ‘court of peers’ model, which was confirmed by historical analyses and patterns of formulating dissenting opinions. This article, however, is meant to deepen the analysis by proposing an alternative approach to the study of the process of ‘reaching a compromise’ in adjudicating panels of the Constitutional Court. Instead of traditional analyses of dissenting opinions, it uses the cases of the Constitutional Court in which more than one rapporteur was responsible for preparing the draft judgment and its main motives as well as written reasons.

Teaching past tense forms in groups at lower levels of Polish language proficiency (from A1 to B1) requires a number of tasks which allow to present and practise the required grammatical forms, as well as to test their knowledge. W filozofii i logice metody stanowią „drogi do prawdy”, zaś w etyce są to „drogi do dobra”, celem nie jest poznanie, lecz działanie – poprawne i etyczne. W etyce bezpieczeństwa stosuje się obecnie zwłaszcza trzy metody: humanistyczną, inwencji i intuicji. Autor omawia zarówno trzy główne, jak i drugorzędne metody współczesnej etyki bezpieczeństwa: heurystyczną, fenomenologiczną, semantyczną, empiryczną, funkcjonalizmu, aktualistyczną, pragmatyczną, redukcji, dedukcji i dialektyczną. Współczesna metodologia etyki bezpieczeństwa koncentruje się na stosunku człowieka do człowieka i nakierowuje na ten aspekt wszystkie rodzaje etyki ogólnej. Wartość moralna pewnych działań, a także sama metodologia ulegają jednak zmianom. Bez dostrzegania i świadomości tego zjawiska nie sposób sprostać współczesnym wyzwaniom etyki bezpieczeństwa ani tym bardziej być aktywnym podmiotem bezpieczeństwa.
The ethics of security, a sub-field of security studies, uses the same methods as the philosophy and logic of security, but emphasises its different aspects. Methods used in philosophy and logic are “a path to the truth”, whereas methods used in ethics are “a path to the good”. The aim of ethics is not cognition but actions that are proper and ethical. Nowadays, the ethics of security uses mainly three methods: the humanistic, inventive and intuitive method. The author discusses not only the above mentioned main methods, but also secondary methods used in the contemporary ethics of security: the heuristic, phenomenological, semantic, empirical, functionalist, actualistic, pragmatic, reductive, deductive and dialectic method. The contemporary methodology used in the ethics of security focuses on the attitude of man to man and directs the attention of general ethics to this aspect. However, the moral value of certain actions, as well as the methodology itself, are subject to change. Without noticing this phenomenon and being aware of it, it is impossible to face the contemporary challenges of the ethics of security nor to be an active security entity.

Opis:

The present article raises the issue of the methodological status of the Church’s social doctrine from its beginnings, namely, from the social teaching of Leo XIII, to the Second Vatican Council. In the first part, the author highlights the substantial role of the Magisterium in constituting the Church’s social doctrine. The second part, presents an analysis of the key social documents of the Church, with particular emphasis on methodological strands. The reflection is based on the assumption that the Church’s social doctrine is not just another ecclesial scientific discipline, since it involves a more complex reality in terms of practitioners, methods, sources of cognition or, finally, the nature of assertions formulated within that area of science.
Przedmiotem artykułu jest zagadnienie statusu metodologicznego nauki społecznej Kościoła od jej początków, a więc od nauczania społecznego Leona XIII, do Soboru Watykańskiego II. W pierwszej części autor ukazuje Magisterium Kościoła jako aktywny podmiot w ukonstytuowaniu się nauki społecznej Kościoła. W drugiej poddaje analizie kluczowe dokumenty społeczne Kościoła, wydobywając z nich wątki metodologiczne. W podjętej refleksji przyjęto założenie, że w przypadku nauki społecznej Kościoła chodzi nie tylko o kolejną kościelną dyscyplinę naukową, ale o rzeczywistość bardziej złożoną pod względem podmiotów ją uprawiających, metod, źródeł poznania czy w końcu charakteru twierdzeń, do których dochodzi.

W niniejszym artykule dokonujemy krótkiego przeglądu życia i pracy Komeńskiego, aby określić wpływy jego postaw i przekonań na rozwój metodologii dydaktycznej. Ponadto staramy się podkreślić znaczenie wkładu Komeńskiego w ogólny rozwój dydaktyki jako dyscypliny naukowej i jej metodologii. Artykuł zawiera: 1. analizę życia i pracy Jana Amosa Komeńskiego; 2. analizę dzieła Komeńskiego jako najbardziej wiarygodnego źródła jego reformatorskich idei; 3. przedstawienie jego poglądów na pedagogikę i metodologię dydaktyczną; 4. wskazanie metodologii dydaktycznej w odniesieniu do zasad edukacyjnych Komeńskiego. Wykorzystana została analiza historyczna i analiza zastosowania metody historycznej w celu zebrania i analizy danych empirycznych oraz przedstawienia idei i postaw Komeńskiego zawartych w jego dziełach. Stanowią one podstawę jego zasad edukacyjnych.
The works of John Amos Comenius, as the most prominent thinker in didactics, have often been the focus of researchers in the field. His legacy is a wealth of practical ideas, theories, suggestions, and guidelines, used by today’s pedagogy experts, researchers, and practitioners. This paper will briefly review Comenius’ life and work to determine the influences hisatt itudes and beliefs had on the development of the didactic methodology. Furthermore, our aim is to emphasize the significance of the Comenius’ contribution to the overall development of didactics as a scientific discipline and its methodology. The specific tasks thepap er will perform are as follows: 1. to analyse the life and work of John Amos Comenius; 2. to analyse the works of John Amos Comenius as the most reliable witness to his reformatory ideas; 3. to map his attitudes on pedagogics, pedagogy, and didactic methodology; 4. to indicate the alignment between the didactic methodology and the educational principles. For the purposes of this study, historical analysis and the content analysis of the historical method were used to collect and analyse the data and present the ideas and attitudes expressed in the works of Comenius that form the basis for his educational principles.

The article presents the possible input of musicologists in terms of popular music studies. It describes basic differences between rock and classical music, being still in the centre of attention of traditional musicology, and underlines the necessity of analysing musical recordings instead of relying on score music. New terminology is proposed – both original and based on Western scholars’ experiences – especially relating to formal structure. The author also analyses different approaches to rhythmics (advocating that scholar himself needs to divide a song into bars), harmonics and melodics (presenting popular models), and instrumentation (underlining the importance of sound processing methods).

Marc Bloch — one of the most distinguished 20th Century historians – is the author of Strange Defeat: A Statement of Evidence Written in 1940. Serving as a staff offi cer, Bloch witnessed the fall of France in 1940 from the front line. This book is so interesting from the methodological point of view, because we are presented here with a historical source created by a historian, who additionally knows how an ideal type of historical evidence ought to be written. This French historian thought that history is also written to give contemporaries lessons on how to avoid the mistakes of the past. This is an important message of Strange Defeat.

The article contributes to the discussion on the interpretation of processes taking place in the contemporary Polish language from two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic (ahistorical, to be precise). The author draws attention to the problem of not accounting for the achievements of diachronic linguistics, which is visible in the studies devoted to the analysis of the language used by the contemporary Poles. This leads to a situation in which the same research questions are not infrequently examined and interpreted in completely different ways in synchronic studies and those dealing with the history of language. Sometimes the differences are so vast that coherent scientific discourse becomes disabled. Enriching the investigation of the processes occurring in the contemporary Polish language with conclusions drawn from analysing historical sources is thus an important claim. Considering the diachronic perspective could be particularly beneficial for discussing the issue of the norm. Since a number of problems with language correctness result from tendencies and processes which have been happening in language for centuries, only becoming acutely aware of them can bring a change in understanding codification and the linguistic norm.

Opis:

Stanisław Tabaczyński, a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, passed away in November 2020. He was one of the most influential theoreticians of Stanisław Tabaczyński – pro memoria 183 archaeology in post-War Poland. He developed an original concept of the archaeo- logical process at the junction of the Annales school, the Poznań methodological school, and the inspirations from the Italian academic milieu cantered around the Polish-Italian Interdisciplinary Working Taskforce of Applied Sciences in Archaeology and Protection of Cultural Patrimony. Its main components com- prised long-term processes, ethnogenetic processes, and the polisemantisation of culture. He understood archaeology as the anthropology of the prehistoric past, outstretched between anthropology and history. He participated and ran numerous excavation projects in Poland and abroad. These comprised excavation campaigns carried out in the large-scale Millennium Research project in Poznań, Wrocław, Biskupin, Kołobrzeg, Grody Czerwieńskie and Nakło nad Notecią. His major achievement was the excavation of the early Medieval Sandomierz. He discovered a glassmaking workshop of the 7–8 th centuries on Torcello Island in the Venice Lagoon and participated in numerous field projects in Italy, France, and Algieria. He is the author of numerous books and articles. Among his most important publications are three-volume Theory and Practice of Archaeological Research, Przeszłość społeczna [The Social Past], Neolit środkowoeuropejski. Opis:

This article attempts to find the answer for two questions. Is memory training reasonable and effective? And how to work with seniors in classes involving cognitive stimulation activities? Empirical part that involved the study with 99 participants (experimental group underwent memory training) answers the first question. The results indicate moderate effectiveness of cognitive stimulation but it can also act as a buffer against deterioration of memory functioning. Methodological part which answers the second question, refers to three aspects: profile of a senior, role of the educator and good practices of running such trainings.

Aim: This article was written out of a felt need to reflect on the relationship between economic theories and models on the one hand and the empirical world as we experience it on the other. The question is in particular whether it is possible for economic models and theories to say anything definitive about the world we live in.   Design/Research methods: The article relies on professional publications, both within the field of economics and outside of it.   Conclusions/findings: There is much reason for humility, economic models and theories have hardly anything definitive to say about the empirical world, and there is a need for a more varied menu of theories and models and for a listening ear for the needs and fears of the population at large. The best we can do is discussing competing and conflicting views in a polite way. However, this requires a Sprachethik that looks more and more like an endangered species.   Originality/value of the article: Recent developments concerning the reach of economic models and theories are related to earlier discussions and a way forward is sketched

Artykuł prezentuje wstępne uwagi na temat języków antropocenu. Wychodzi z założenia, że antropocen wymaga wielowymiarowego, niejednorodnego, międzyskalowego spojrzenia, które ujawnia, że to, jak nazywamy i opisujemy tę epokę geologiczną, ma znaczenie dla naszego myślenia o przyczynach, następstwach oraz aktorach odpowiedzialnych za kryzys ekologiczno-klimatyczny. Następnie autor opisuje kilka przykładowych języków antropocenu: język geologii, rozmaitych dyskursów teoretycznych oraz literatury i sztuki. Przedostatnia część artykułu prezentuje zawartość 11 tomu czasopisma "AUPC. Studia Poetica". W części końcowej autor proponuje kategorię "antropocenu dyfrakcyjnego", która jego zdaniem pozwala sprostać antropocenowi jako nowemu, nieintuicyjnemu, emergentnemu wydarzeniu.
The article presents preliminary remarks on the languages of the Anthropocene. Its assumption is that the Anthropocene requires a multidimensional, heterogeneous, cross-scale view revealing that how we name and describe the geological epoch matters to our thinking about the causes, consequences and actors responsible for the ecological and climate crisis. The author then describes a few exemplary languages of the Anthropocene: the language of geology, various theoretical discourses, as well as literature and art. The penultimate part of the article presents the content of the 11th volume of the journal “AUPC. Studia Poetica”. In the final part, the author proposes the “diffractive Anthropocene” category, which, in his opinion, makes it possible to face the Anthropocene as a new, non-intuitive, emergent event.

In the history of anthropology, that is, a science whose borders have considerably shifted, the object of study has continually changed but there has been a prevailing conviction about the unusual sensitivity of its practices; however, such sensitivity has not been discussed by researchers in the context of wars, military intelligence, or other military endeavors. When the history of this discipline is recounted as it is by Michał Kowalski in the book Antropolodzy na wojnie [Anthropologists on War], through the prism of the complications involved in direct activities of this type, it forces one to reflect on the ethical principles that should guide field researchers. Historical analyses of such sensitive material should also incline scholars to greater methodological awareness and avoidance of the trap of presentism.

Opis:

This article is devoted to the analysis of the autobiographical element in the novel by Zachar Prilepin The Pathologies. It can be noticed that the contemporary Russian writer resigns from postmodernism poetics and turns to the tradition of realistic literature. What is more, he wants to overcome the crisis of authorship. The novel The Pathologies is also a response to the esthetic need of modern readers, who are interested in broadly understood autobiography and observation of life in all its dimensions. Prilepin – a veteran of The First and the Second Chechen Wars – shares his soldier’s experience and emotions. The autobiographical element is present in The Pathologies on various levels (hero, narration, extreme situation).

Opis:

The purpose of this article is to look into the problem of grounded theory methodology (GTM) application in social research on the human body. First, the theoretical roots of GTM in symbolic interactionism are enumerated and their consequences for applying the research strategy are described. The author presents examples of her research as an illustration of how GTM procedures enable the researcher to ingrain the body in social processes, and explains what it actually means to embed physical body in social phenomena and processes. The conclusions concerning the practice of GTM research are based on a series of empirical studies conducted by the author in the fields of dance, physical therapy, and medical work. The author argues that GTM expounds on specific procedures, which offer both methodological discipline and flexibility that is necessary for studying as challenging phenomenon as that of the human body.

Opis:

Openness to new technologies and an ability to use them efficiently is a feature of the modern education. They often say about elevating efficiency of education through preparation of the youth to independent gaining and broadening their knowledge. It is necessary, however, to underline, in the light of presented threats, that it should be a critical selection of information which is found in the various kinds of sources. The present socioeconomical situation of the world creates new educational challenges. Using information and communication technologies in our country becomes widespread, first of all, thanks to schools and young generations. The youth belong to the largest group of the computer and Internet users. School has already been criticized for many years mainly for this that using coercion against pupils plays an essential role in it. Criticism also concerns the education of the ‘theoretical man’. Such an approach resulting from that school in reality does not lead to the pupil’s development because only learning resulting from the internal need can lead to it.

Opis:

Suicide by hanging is a social phenomenon that is very often analyzed by police officers at the place of its disclosure. Activities carried out pursuant to Art. 308 of the Code of Criminal Procedure provide for an inspection of both the place where the corpse was discovered and the examination of the corpse. Both of these activities are classified as procedural activities and a protocol is drawn up for each of them. This article presents the activities carried out by a forensic technician at the scene of the event, aimed at a kind of reconstruction of the event by revealing traces and objects and their proper protection. The role performed by a forensic technician can definitely be considered necessary and his participation can be compared to the participation of a specialist because the conclusions drawn on the basis of his work should be considered key and often constitute the basis for further preparatory proceedings.

The article concerns Wojciech Kętrzyński (1838–1918), the long-term director of the Ossoliński National Institute in Lviv. He was above all an outstanding historian, a passionate researcher with great methodological background. For the contemporaries, he was undoubtedly a scientific authority, an expert in the Polish Middle Ages, Prussian lands, genealogy and diplomacy, and a publisher of historical sources. Less known are his other merits in the field of research, such as interest in the history of law. There is no doubt that they remained beyond his main scientific interests; nevertheless one may say that Kętrzyński was also a researcher in the history of law. It should also be noted that he received a good education in this respect during his studies in Königsberg, especially in the field of Roman law and German law. Mostly, his research concerned the history of law in the Prussian lands and the original socio-legal system of Polish lands. It should be emphasized, however, that in these disciplines Kętrzyński usually limited himself to searching for sources of law and the system, their analysis and explanation. He rarely made detailed analytical or wider synthetic conclusions. He kept up to date with the historical and legal literature; he also maintained intense contacts with the entourage of Polish and foreign (German-speaking) scholars dealing with the history of law. Kętrzyński’s findings were scarcely maintained, but they undoubtedly constituted a step forward in the development of historical and legal sciences. The source publications and possibly their translations remain valid, as do numerous extracts from archival sources, which are nowadays partly missing.

 W artykule została zaproponowana korekta w ujmowaniu relacji między modelami soteriologicznymi. Zwykle określa się ją mianem komplementarnej. Po skrótowym przedstawieniu stanu dyskusji nad ideą idei modeli w teologii i zasadą komplementarności zwrócono uwagę na specyfikę modeli soteriologicznych: ich wielość, która wymyka się konstruowaniu dychotomicznych układów (typowych dla wzorcowej idei komplementarności i stosowalnej np. w trynitologii), a także ich niejednorodność wynikającą z niejednakowego powiązania ze źródłami wiary. Relacje między modelami w soteriologii są na tyle skomplikowane, że nie zawsze pomaga w ich wyjaśnieniu „standardowa” zasada komplementarności, choć zawsze pozostaje w mocy reguła niewyrażalności tajemnicy zbawienia przy pomocy jednego tylko wyjaśnienia, a zatem także reguła uzupełniania się różnych (poprawnych) ujęć. Pojawiające się w teologii próby syntetycznego ujęcia soteriologii nie mogą się tym regułom sprzeciwiać, ale też ich podejmowanie świadczy o tym, że można odstawiać na bok tezę o pozostawaniu poszczególnych modeli we wzajemnym, nieusuwalnym napięciu.
The article proposes a correction in the recognition of the relationships between soteriological models. Usually, the relation is referred to as complementary. After briefly presenting the state of discussion on the idea of models in theology and the principle of complementarity, attention is drawn to the specificity of soteriological models: their multiplicity, which eludes the construction of dichotomous systems (typical for the model idea of complementarity and applicable e.g. in trinitology), as well as their heterogeneity resulting from connections with sources of faith. The relationships between the models in soteriology are so complicated that the „standard” principle of complementarity does not always help in their explanation, although the rule of the inexpressibility of the mystery of salvation using only one explanation and therefore the rule of complementing different (correct) approaches always remains in force. The attempts of a synthetic approach to soteriology appearing in theology cannot oppose these rules, but the sole undertaking proves that one can put aside the thesis that individual models remain in mutual, irremovable tension.

Wśród wielu perspektyw badania przestrzeni dzieciństwa na uwagę zasługuje interesujące poznawczo zagadnienie eksploracji tego fragmentu rzeczywistości społecznej, który nazywamy „dzieciństwem dzieciństwa”. Interesujące studia na ten temat zaprezentowała Alison Clark, nazywając je podejściem mozaikowym (the Mosaic Approach). Owo oryginalne podejście badawcze opiera się na dowartościowaniu kompetencji dzieci przeżywających swoje dzieciństwo, będących głównymi podmiotami, dzięki którym „dorosły” badacz pozyskuje wiarygodne źródło informacji. Dzieci postrzegane są jako eksperci ich własnego życia. To dzięki nim otrzymujemy wiedzę o tym, jakie znaczenia, wartości oraz doświadczenia życia codziennego budują przestrzeń ich dzieciństwa. W tej strategii badawczej szczególnego znaczenia nabiera aktywne słuchanie i proces rozumienia dzieci poprzez wszystkie dostępne ich wytwory. Poniższy artykuł przedstawia ujęcie teoretyczne proponowane przez A. Clark, które wykorzystała ona w procesie poszukiwań znaczeń, jakie dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym nadają prawu pozytywnemu współtworzącemu przestrzeń ich dzieciństwa.
Among the many research perspectives in the exploration of childhood space, the attention of the researcher should be drawn to a cognitively interesting approach to the question of studying this fragment of social reality, which is called „the childhood of the childhood”, namely the one which was presented by Alison Clark and defined as the Mosaic Approach. This original research strategy is based on the appreciation of the competences of children who experience their childhood as the main subjects through which an “adult” researcher acquires a reliable source of information. Children are experts in their own lives. It is thanks to them that we obtain knowledge about what meanings, values and experiences of everyday life build the space of their childhood. In this research strategy, active listening and the process of understanding children through the analysis of many available children’s products become particularly important. The following article presents the theoretical approach proposed by A. Clark used in the search for meanings that preschool children give to a positive law co-creating the space of their childhood.

Opis:

The article analyzes contemporary interest in utopia as a method in the area of the new humanities. The author asks whether nowadays, after the post-critical turn, humanists can afford to use utopia as a method. She also ponders on the attitude that would have to be adopted for this methodology. In this context, she briefly discusses the proposals of Jeffrey C. Alexander, Immanuel Wallerstein and Ruth Levitas, while identifying ethical and methodological problems related to utopian experiments and their limits. Taking into account her methodological findings about utopia as a method, she continues her search through Polish cultural studies, pointing for example to Jan Sowa’s works and broader research trends presented at the 3rd Congress of the Polish Association of Cultural Studies in Poznań. While diagnosing them only as a preliminary phase, she believes they may be the phenomena that herald a turn towards utopia in the Polish humanities.
