The paper deals with the role of multilingualism in selected text types. The reflections on forms of multilingualism and occasions for using multiple languages in a text lead to the creation of a typologythat distinguishes between obligatory and optional use of multiple languages in text types. The obligatory multilingualism is constitutive in dictionaries, textbooks and teaching materials. Optional multilingualism, which was examined using the example of German advertising texts and grave inscriptions from Germany and Denmark, reinforces the main function of the text.

The present paper involves a textlinguistic‑codicological analysis and attempts to identify the specific features of the Polish administrative language in the entries of the 19th c. parish register from the town of Busko‑Zdrój. The aim of the paper is to describe the column as a type of text. This text type has its roots back in the 19th century France. But at the beginning this text type had a totally different character, different form, aim and features. It was a part of newspaper, where novels, critiques and poems were posted. Nowadays there may occur a problem to define the term ‘column’. Generally it is the text type with a polemical and derisive character, which serves as the entertainment, but sometimes the term ‘column’ still refers to a part of the newspaper. This article defines the term and how this text type has developed through the time.

The article presents the analysis of the means of “odyvnennia verging on being absurd” of the form and content of the most well-known Ukrainian Diaspora playwright Ihor Kostetskiy’s (1913–1984) play ”The Twins will Meet One Day” (1947). It was established that the formal-semantic organization of the “dramatic work” text type is deformed to a great extent. First of all, these are communicative-lingual actions of the “presenter” in the prologue and interlude of the play. Communicative actions of the heroes of the play in a number of cases break the rules, conventions and maxims of confl ict free communication. Besides, the author introduces mystical elements in a quite realistic content of the play.

This article is a review of a monograph on genological research on speech species. The objects of this publication are tomb inscriptions from over 60 necropolises in the north-eastern Lublin Region, which is situated within the borders of the Orthodox Lublin-Chelm Diocese and in the western part of the Volyn oblast in Ukraine. These are ethnically, linguistically, culturally and religiously non-homogeneous areas. The analysis takes into consideration the structure, the type of the functions fulfilled by grave inscriptions, the pragmatic aspect and cultural specificity of the analyzed texts. The subject of the review is to discuss the content of the publication and to implement the research goals undertaken by the author. In assessing the scientific value of the monograph, the current methodological solutions and the role of the study in the context of the state of research in Polish text linguistics were taken into account. The reviewed monograph is a reliable empirical study, however, the adopted description model does not take into account semiotic features that would complete the information about the analyzed texts. The book may be a contribution to Slavonic dialectological studies, especially to the indication of mutual Polish-Ukrainian interferences. It constitutes a source for studying the vocabulary of the borderland. The work may be used for comparative studies of funeral texts.

The investigation aims to answer the question as to whether the examined testaments suit the pattern of the will as a text type. The proposed paper is the outcome of a research project dealing with a comparison of the culinary and medical recipes at various stages in their development. The main aim of the present study is to concentrate on the major text type features as found in the two types of the recipe. Our preliminary studies have shown that some of these features are common in only one type of instruction, being hardly noticeable in the other. The results will show the differences but also the degree of overlapping between the most prominent text type features of culinary and medical recipes produced in Middle and Early Modern English.

Polish and German perspective in genre studies
Opis:
Drawing from both German and Polish linguistic and literary perspectives, the article attempts to examine genre changes within the genre pattern of the novel and decide whether Olga Tokarczuk’s Flights, described by the author herself as a novel, should be attributed to this genre. We assume that linguistic and literary tools will allow us to determine the most characteristic features of contemporary novel productions to decide on the nature of changes taking place within the studied genre. Looking at Tokarczuk’s work not through the prism of a single genre but, following Maria Wojtak, Kirsten Adamzik or Ulla Fix, from the perspective of inter-genre relations, allows not only to conclude that the analyzed material is located on the fringes of the genre pattern of the novel but also to see other inter-textual dependencies and consider the text under study as a genre in the form of a collection.

Obwohl, oder vielleicht gerade dadurch, dass der Nachruf im Interessengebiet mehrerer Forschungsdisziplinen steht, gilt er als eine immer noch unzureichend untersuchte Kategorie. Auch aus der textsortentypologischen Sicht herrscht über den Status des ‚Nachrufs‘ sowie dessen funktionale und thematische Merkmale und definitorische Parameter in der germanistischen Forschung keine Übereinstimmung. Hinzu kommen die immer wieder in der Tages- und Online-Presse erscheinenden Texte, die mit dem Vermerk ‚kritischer Nachruf‘ im Titelkomplex versehen werden. Sollte dies somit bedeuten, dass sich neben dem Nachruf eine neue Größe etabliert hat? Der Beitrag setzt sich zum Ziel, den Nachruf als Analyseobjekt aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven zu beleuchten und anhand der Analyse von ausgewählten Pressetexten zu ermitteln, ob es sich bei kritischen Nachrufen womöglich um eine neue Textsortenvariante handelt.
Despite, or perhaps because of the fact that the obituary is in the area of interest of several research disciplines, it is regarded as a still inadequately examined category. From the point of view of linguistic genology concerning the German studies of this text type, scholars are not unanimous on the status of the obituary, its functional and thematic features and definitional parameters. Furthermore, both in printed and electronic press one can increasingly find texts provided with an annotation ‘critical obituary’ in the title. Does it mean that beside the obituary there has been established a new category? The author of this article aims to describe the concept of the obituary, discuss it from different perspectives, and on the basis of selected press releases, examine whether it is possible to talk about differentiating a new variant of text type.
Mimo, a może właśnie z tego powodu, że wspomnienie pośmiertne znajduje się w obszarze zainteresowań wielu dyscyplin badawczych, uchodzi ono za wielkość, która nadal niewystarczająco została zbadana. Z punktu widzenia genologii lingwistycznej w badaniach germanistycznych dotyczących rodzajów tekstów badacze nie są zgodni co do kwestii statusu, wyróżników funkcjonalnych i tematycznych wspomnienia pośmiertnego ani też odnośnie wyznaczników definicyjnych tego gatunku. Ponadto w prasie drukowanej i elektronicznej pojawiają się coraz częściej teksty opatrzone w tytule wzmianką ‘krytyczne wspomnienie pośmiertne’. Czy należy więc z tego wnioskować, że obok wspomnienia pośmiertnego wykształciła się nowa wielkość? Artykuł przybliża pojęcie wspomnienia pośmiertnego oraz ukazuje je z różnych perspektyw, a na podstawie analizy wybranych tekstów prasowych stawia także pytanie, czy w przypadku krytycznego wspomnienia pośmiertnego można mówić o nowym wariancie gatunkowym.

Opis:
The text type of the inspection decree can be reconstructed from the corpus of such documents issued in the region of Lviv. This text type was that of an official decree, and it was part of the legal enforcement process in the 16th-century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The main argument schema in the text type under analysis was realized through the following formulation: who decrees what to whom in response to complaint. Its full version also contains additional textual components that further elaborate the main structure, and which provide precise conditions on how to effectively execute the decree and on what legal grounds. Shaping this text type was a long-term process. As presented in the analyses, the 17th-century version of the text type in case was a highly developed, advanced one. Its earliest textual sources can be traced back to the Medieval official documents. One can safely assume that the officials in inspection commissions – established by the Polish Diet, and active from the 16th to the 18th century - contributed hugely to the development of a standardized text type for this official document.

The paper deals with the functioning of if-clauses in mathematical word problems and with their equivalents. First, the nature of a word problem as a text type is shown. Further, the difference between complex sentences with proper implicative-causal relation and a lay use of conditional clauses is examined. As its main goal, the paper presents a comparison of various instances of conditional clauses in mathematics word problems. Also, it shows the role of formulaic stereotypy and conventional assumptions in word problem texts as an integral part of both the mathematical and the communicative competence.

Będące przedmiotem analizy Godzinki moskalofilskie. 300 dni łaski carskiej za każdorazowe odmówienie tych godzinek z pokorą i skruszonym sercem T. Chełchowskiego to tekst odpowiadający poetyce polonijnych sporów politycznych przełomu XIX i XX wieku, a przy tym czerpiący z polskiej tradycji literackiej. Za sprawą nawiązania do modlitewnego wzorca – godzinek, i uwzględniając ich genezę, Godzinki moskalofilskie uznać można za trawestację (w ujęciu Nycza) lub okaz (w ujęciu Wojtak) wzorca modlitewnego. Nawiązanie to przejawia się w siedmioczęściowej budowie (jutrznia, pryma, tercja, seksta, nona, nieszpory i kompleta) z zaczęciem, hymnem, wersetami i responsoriami, modlitwą; konsekwentnie stosowany w wezwaniach i hymnach wzorzec metryczny; apostroficzne otwarcie hymnów; wersety i responsoria następujące po hymnie i/lub modlitwie; nawiązania stylistyczne i semantyczne (wezwania do cara i bohaterów hymnów na wzór apostrof do Boga i Maryi; parafrazy kolokacji biblijnych i modlitewnych). Odstępstwem od wzorca kanonicznego są: zredukowana forma ofiarowania (tylko antyfona), brak modlitwy, modyfikowane w każdej z godzin zaczęcie.
Subject to analysis in this article is T. Chełchowski’s Godzinki moskalofilskie. 300 dni łaski carskiej za każdorazowe odmówienie tych godzinek z pokorą i skruszonym sercem [Moscophile Hours: 300 Days of Grace for Each Saying of the Hours with Humility and Contrite Heart]. The Hours is a text that fits the general poetics of the political disputes typical of the Polish émigré milieus at the turn of the 20th century. At the same time, the text retains a lot from the Polish literary tradition. Taking into account the fact that the text exploits a prayer as a textual genre (Canonical Hours), and acknowledging the roots of the genre, the Hours can be classified as a travesty (trawestacja in Nycz’s approach) or as an idiosyncratic token (okaz in Wojtak’s terms) of the prayer genre. The generic linkage is realized by constructing the text of the Hours in seven parts (Matins, Prime, Terce, Sext, Nones, Vespers and Compline) with its introduction, hymn, verses, responsories and prayers; by consecutive use of metre in invocations and hymns; by an apostrophic opening of the hymns; by positioning verses and responsories after hymns or prayers; as well as by stylistic and semantic references (invocations addressed to the Tsar and hymn protagonists, modelled on apostrophes to God and Mary; paraphrases of biblical and prayer collocations). Departures from the canonical text-type include: the reduced form of the final antiphon, lack of prayer and an introduction that is modified per each hour.

Vor uber 10 Jahren sind Arztbewertungsportale als ein neues mit Medizin zusammenhangendes Angebot im Internet entstanden. Seit dieser Zeit entwickeln sie sich dynamisch und werden langsam zu einem etablierten Marketinginstrument in der medizinischen Branche. In diesem Beitrag werden Arzte-Profile auf Arztbewertungsportalen als Vorstellungstexte aus textlinguistischer Sicht analysiert. Mit einem Modell textlinguistischer Beschreibung werden sie als Textsorte charakterisiert, indem auf ihre konstitutiven Merkmale auf verschiedenen Ebenen hingewiesen wird.
Over 10 years ago, physician rating portals emerged as a new medicine-related offer on the Internet. Since then, they have been developing dynamically and gradually have became an established marketing tool in the medical industry. In this article, physician profiles on physician rating portals as introductory texts are analyzed from a linguistic point of view. Using a model of textual linguistic description, they are characterized as a type of text by pointing out their constitutive features at different levels.

W wypadku prototypowej noweli, czyli gatunku prozatorskiego o krótkich bądź stosunkowo krótkich rozmiarach można mówić o tendencji do zauważalnej stabilności, jako że stan staropolski i dziewiętnastowieczny charakteryzuje się względnym podobieństwem: w obu wypadkach obserwujemy trójdzielny model, choć różna bywa jego aktualizacja. Z czasem rozbudowaniu ulega segment centralny, niemniej wciąż można wskazać trzy podstawowe ogniwa kompozycyjne. Wyraźny jest tu związek z innymi gatunkami spokrewnionymi, przede wszystkim facecją i anegdotą, które – począwszy od czasów antycznych – wykazują silne związki strukturalne z nowelą. Zmianie ulega także rola puenty, która w staropolszczyźnie stanowiła znaczący element struktury gatunku, nawet gdy nie była wyrażona expressis verbis. Nowela pozytywistyczna z uwagi na fakt zmiany tematyki, a tym samym funkcji w uniwersum komunikacyjnym, rezygnuje z puenty na rzecz bardziej skomplikowanego przesłania, leżącego prawie zawsze po stronie odbiorcy tekstu. Kluczem do stabilności strukturalnej noweli wydaje się jej krótka forma, związana z genetycznym dziedzictwem anegdoty jako krótkiej, zwięzłej narracji codziennej, oralnej u swej podstawy.
This article discusses the exponents of the structural component of the novella, as seen from the perspective of the evolution of this genre - understood not only as a literary phenomenon, but also a case of social communication, embedded in its cultural and anthropological environment. The generic form is understood as a component of the genre constellation, comprising such text types as anecdote, joke or story. In the case of a prototypical novella, that is a genre that relies on the form of a short or relatively short prose text, one can observe a tendency towards its noticeable stability, since the Old Polish and the 19th-century status of this genre is largely comparable. In both époques, one can observe the prevalent tri-partite pattern, yet the way in which it was practically realized could differ at times. With time, the central segment of the novella tended to be expanded, yet the three main structural components were easily recognizable. This structural organization betrays a clear link with other related genres, like the joke and the anecdote. These three text types remained in a close structural correlation since antiquity. The role of the story punch line also changed. In Old Polish, it constituted a vital structural component of the genre, even though it was not always overtly expressed. The Positivist novella resigns from its reliance on the punch line, which is owing to the changes in the subject matter and, hence, its role in the communication universe. The punch line is substituted with a more complex message that is almost always placed on the side of the text recipient. The constrained length of the novella seems to be paramount in ensuring its structural stability. This shortness is anchored genetically in the heritage of the anecdote - short and concise, daily life, oral narrative.
