Opis:
The paper deals with the determination of mechanical and brittle properties of gas pipeline after more than 40 years in operation. The heat affected zone in weld of pipeline is the risk area in terms of embrittlement structure, which resulted in an increase of yield strength and shift of transit temperature to more positive values. The specimens were cut from heat affected zone for this reason. The tensile test according to ISO 6892-1 showed the increase in yield strength: it had a value of 295 MPa at the beginning operation and 400 MPa after more than 40 years in pipeline operation was recorded. The transition temperature at the value of 20°C was determined by using the Charpy impact test according to EN 10045-1. The operators of gas pipelines report that the mean temperature on the outer surface of pipe is about 4°C during the winter. The risk of brittle fragile is very likely if the transition temperature is higher than operating temperature.

Opis:
The main goal of this paper is experimental analysis of selected mechanical properties of single annulus fibrosus lamellae at macroscopic and microscopic levels as well as representation and explanation of the structural response to forced deformation. The conducted analysis of single annulus fibrosus lamella with preserved natural attachments revealed two characteristic mechanisms leading to damage of annulus fibrosus and large diversification of conventional Young's modulus. The analysis in a microscopic level enable the imaging of changes in the collagen matrix during a tensile test and of significant differences in mechanical properties with respect to tensile direction.
Badania pojedynczej blaszki pierścienia z zachowanymi naturalnymi przyczepami do tkanki kostnej trzonów kręgów, wykazała istnienie dwóch mechanizmów zniszczenia tkanki oraz duże zróżnicowanie umownego modułu Younga w obszarach krzywej naprężeniowo-odkształceniowej. Badania na poziomie mikroskopowym umożliwiły zobrazowanie zmiany macierzy kolagenowej w trakcie rozciągania i istotnych zmian właściwości mechanicznych w zależności od kierunku obciążania.

Opis:
Static tension test allows characterization of material strength properties. This simple test provides input data for numerical calculation of structural components made of the tested alloy. Elastic, plastic and failure behavior of the structural component in question is simulated, using, for example, the FEM package, based on parameters obtained as the result of tensile testing. When using the results of the tensile test for modeling the material failure it is important to estimate correctly plastic strain corresponding to failure. It is common practice to use elongation of the specimen gage part for the calculation of failure strain. On the other side, the most popular ductile failure criterion used by engineers performing numerical simulation of the material’s behavior relies on the equivalent plastic strain as the criterial quantity. Those two parameters can differ significantly. In order to calculate the equivalent plastic strain correctly, we have to remember about strain localization (necking) appearing during tensile tests and take into account the fact that during tensile testing we have three non-zero strain tensor components. Ignoring this fact, and using only elongation as the criterial quantity can lead to enormous simulation error. This error is analyzed in this paper for nickel based superalloy tested at elevated temperatures.

The aim of this study was to estimate the measurement uncertainty for a material produced by additive manufacturing. The material investigated was FullCure 720 photocured resin, which was applied to fabricate tensile specimens with a Connex 350 3D printer based on PolyJet technology. The tensile strength of the specimens established through static tensile testing was used to determine the measurement uncertainty. There is a need for extensive research into the performance of model materials obtained via 3D printing as they have not been studied sufficiently like metal alloys or plastics, the most common structural materials. In this analysis, the measurement uncertainty was estimated using a larger number of samples than usual, i.e., thirty instead of typical ten. The results can be very useful to engineers who design models and finished products using this material. The investigations also show how wide the scatter of results is.

In this contribution there have been evaluated properties of four types of sheets made from aluminium alloys. In the case of each of the examined sheets there has been checked its shearing ability via the influence of punch-die clearance change on the quality of blanking edge. Quality of blanking edge is characterized by a ratio of plastic zone height to the total thickness of the sheared material. Formability during the drawing process was measured with earring test. Results are presented by the earring coefficient (unequal height) of the cups.

Modified LCD-based method was used to print three-dimensional (3D) elements. This innovative method combines printing the external shell and filling, thus obtaining mould by casting resin. In order to compare the properties of prints obtained with this method with the ones fabricated in a standard procedure, we conducted bending tests of vertically/horizontally printed and shell-printed cast specimens. The shell-cast samples showed higher flexural strength and larger values of apparent Young’s modulus. The presented results also concern the kinetics of curing samples obtained with different fabrication routes.

To prevent failure of machine components it is necessary to measure material damage generated in a component throughout its entire lifetime. Damage can be quantified by means of damage parameters. This paper considers the usefulness of hardness measurements to evaluate damage parameter in Inconel 718. Vickers hardness tests were performed on a specimen with a variable cross section area after tensile testing. The specimen’s geometry enabled the evaluation of damage parameter in respect of hardness measurements made on one individual specimen.

Opis:
The scope of the paper is to determine the mechanical properties of the Precontraint 1302 polyester coated fabric under uniaxial and biaxial tensile tests. The results are compared for Precontraint 1302 fabric and other types of coated fabrics. The author applied an orthotropic model and a dense net model to reflect the polyester coated fabric performance under uniaxial and biaxial tensile tests. Material parameters are specified for both constitutive models. In order to observe the variation of immediate mechanical properties, the biaxial cyclic tests are performed for different load ratios. During uniaxial and 1:1 biaxial tensile tests it is barely observable to recognize warp or weft directions on the stress-strain curves. Load history acts strongly on the mechanical properties of the Precontraint 1302 polyester fabrics. The cyclic loads cause variation of immediate longitudinal stiffness with a comparison of values determined for unloaded coated fabrics. The paper can provide scientists, engineers, and designers an experimental and theoretical basis in the field of polyester coated fabrics.
Poznanie i opisanie właściwości mechanicznych danego materiału badanego w różnorodnych warunkach stanowi podstawę do jego szerszego zastosowania i wykorzystania w różnych gałęziach przemysłowych.

Opis:
This paper focused on the effect of pure torsion deformation and various torsion pitches on the mechanical properties of the commercial pure Al wires which has not been examined so far. The initial wires with diameter of 4 mm have been torsion deformed to different pitch length (PL). In order to investigate the effect of gradient microstructure caused by torsion deformation, three different pitch length of 15 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm are considered. The results revealed that the level of grain refinement is correlated with the amount of induced plastic shear strain by torsion deformation. For the wire with pitch length of 15 mm, the grain sizes decreased to about 106 μm and 47 μm in the wire center and edge from the initial size of about 150 μm of the annealed wire. The micro-hardness measurement results show a gradient distribution of hardness from the wire center to the wire surface that confirmed the increasing trend of plastic shear strain obtained by FE simulations. The hardness of annealed sample (35 HV) is increased up to 73 HV at the wire surface for the smallest pitch length. The yield and ultimate tensile strength of the torsion deformed wires are also increased up to about 85 MPa and 152 MPa from the initial values of 38 MPa and 103 MPa of the annealed one respectively while the maximum elongation reduced significantly.

Opis:
Q235 steel is widely used in engineering and construction. Therefore, it is important to identify the damage mechanism and the acoustic emission (AE) response of the material to ensure the safety of structures. In this study, an AE monitor system and an in situ tensile test with an optical microscope were used to investigate the AE response and insight into the damage process of Q235 steel. The surface of the specimen was polished and etched before the test in order to improve the quality of micrographs. Two kinds of AE responses, namely a burst and a continuous signal, were recorded by the AE monitor system during the test. Based on the in situ test, it was observed that the damage of Q235 steel was induced by the crystal slip and the inclusion fracture. Since the crystal slip was an ongoing process, continuous AE signals were produced, while burst AE signals were possibly produced by the inclusion fracture which occurred suddenly with released higher energy. In addition, a great number of AE signals with high amplitude were observed during the yielding stage and then the number and amplitude decreased.

Composites are materials used for various types of constructions in the automotive industry, aviation, and shipbuilding. Due to the wide use of these materials, there is a problem with their recycling. Such material requires appropriate processing technology, which has been developed to obtain a recyclate with a specific granulation. The use of hand laminating technology made composites with the addition of polyester and glass recyclate with granulation of 1.2, as well as content: 0%, 20%, 30%. These types of materials are exposed to various types of atmospheric factors that affect their durability. Aging is defined as changes in the composite when exposed to atmospheric conditions, such as sunlight, temperature, thermal cycles, water in various forms and wind. This article uses recycled polyester and glass composites to investigate the effect of aging in seawater on their strength properties. These tests can be used to pre-assess the applicability of newly developed materials as construction or protective coatings. They were carried out on a specially prepared station for accelerated tests, with elevated temperature (35ºCC), as well as brine spray imitating sea atmosphere. The method is used to accelerate the aging processes occurring in composite materials. Samples were subjected to cycles of 5, 30 and 60 days respectively. Samples were weighed and measured before and after each cycle. In order to investigate the effect of aging on strength properties, the composites underwent a static tensile test in accordance with the standard for plastics. Studies have shown that as a result of the aging process, the strength properties decrease slightly, which affects the favourable assessment of these materials as constructional.
