Nowadays, we witness changing trends in terms of the interest in language learning. In Poland, more and more higher education establishments, not only public, but also private, introduce various types of majors concerning oriental languages, such as Chinese translation programmes.The aim of this paper is to compare the Chinese learning process in China and in Poland. In the first part, a comparative outline of both types of learning processes will be introduced, on the base of author’s few years of experience gained while teaching and studying in both of those countries. Furthermore, the author will investigate the results of teaching Chinese in Poland, a place of very few Chinese native speakers, as compared to teaching Chinese in the mainland of China. In the end, the proposals on what to do to improve the Chinese learning system in non-Chinese speaking countries will be introduced.

Opis:
The cognitive approach in teaching points out clearly to the necessity of integrating language skills in didactic process. Such skills in everyday situations usually appear together: we read in order to write down certain information, we listen to someone’s utterance in order to repeat it to someone else, we write something for someone else to read it etc. Such attitude in teaching imitates a real character of natural communication that combines different types of skills in one multidimensional entity. Methodological materials say nothing or very little on the necessity of integral teaching of the parts of language system that are connected even closer than language skills. No statement can be produced if we do not know the words that this statement should contain and we do not know the rules that must be followed to put these words together. We also need to be able to spell and write down the words correctly in order to make our statement understandable. The article discusses the idea of integrated teaching of the parts of language system along with highlighting its advantages. It is also going to be proved that due to such approach in teaching a learner has numerous and various contacts with language materials, which according to Craik and Lockhart (1971) enhances the process of remembering learnt material.

Der Aufsatz beschäftigt sich mit der Frequenzfilterproblematik, mit der Beschreibung, Verteilung, Zusammensetzung und Messung der Frequenzfilter mit Hilfe des Lehrsystems rc2000. Die Versuchsergebnisse, die mittels Frequenzcharakteristiken dargestellt sind, können sowohl in der Industriepraxis als auch im Elektronikunterricht ausgenutzt werden. Die breiten Möglichkeiten ihrer Ausnutzung in analogen und digitalen Stromkreisen sind ebenfalls angeführt.
The article deals with frequency filters, with their description, sorting, composition and measurement, by means of the Teaching system rc2000. The results of experiments, which are presented using frequency characteristics, may be used both in the industry practice and electronics teaching. The wide possibilities of their use in analogue and digital circuits are also mentioned.
W artykule zajęto się problematyką filtrów frekwencyjnych, ich opisem, rodzajami, zestawianiem oraz pomiarami z wykorzystaniem systemu edukacyjnego rc2000. Wyniki doświadczeń, które przedstawione są za pomocą charakterystyk częstotliwości, można wykorzystać zarówno w praktyce przemysłowej, jak i do nauczania elektroniki w szkołach. Podkreślone są szerokie możliwości wykorzystania filtrów frekwencyjnych w elektronicznych obwodach analogowych i cyfrowych.

Artykuł prezentuje koncepcję internetowego systemu wspomagającego nauczanie języka japońskiego w zakresie przygotowywania do egzaminów JLTP. Celem powstania systemu jest zapełnienie istotnej niszy w obszarze e-learningowego software’u do nauki egzotycznych dla Europejczyków języków obcych. W artykule przedstawiono początkowe etapy procesu tworzenia aplikacji, a więc opis dziedziny problemu i jego analizę z uwzględnieniem modelu wymagań oraz zaprezentowano wybrane elementy projektu części funkcjonalnej systemu. W ramach prac opisywanych w niniejszym artykule w zarysie, opracowano również pełny projekt i implementację proponowanego systemu, której opis może stanowić kontynuację przedstawionych rozważań koncepcyjnych.
The article presents a concept of an online system to support teaching Japanese and to prepare to the JLPT examinations. The objective of the system is to fill the niche in the area of e-learning software for teaching exotic foreign languages to Europeans. The paper presents the initial stages of the application development, the description of the problem area and its analysis with the consideration of the requirement model as well as the selected elements of the functional part of the system. Within the framework of the research that was described generally in the article, a complete project and the implementation of the system was developed whose description may constitute a follow up of the presented conceptual considerations.

Opis:
Knowledge of word formation is an important element of the grammatical competencies of native speakers. Studying forms and functions of derivates and practising using them is also extremely important for foreigners studying Polish. This article contributes to the discussion about the position and function of word formation in the process of education. The authors claim that a specific system of derivation must determine the way in which it is taught. Critical analysis of solutions that have been used in glottodidactics, suggest a new approach, which would place the didactics of word formation ‘between’ grammar and vocabulary.

W praktyce glottodydaktycznej nastąpił przełom, wynikający ze zmiany podejścia do nauczania słownictwa. W dominujacym obecnie podejściu komunikacyjnym zwrócono uwagę na konieczność nie tyle systematycznego, jak dotychczas, ile systemowego nauczania słownictwa, nadając mu nieco większą rangę. W tej sytuacji w refleksji glottodydaktycznej nabierają wagi słowniki oraz poświęcone im prace analityczne. Dotychczasowa literatura przedmiotu obejmuje słowniki ogólne i glottodydaktyczne (dydaktyczne, pedagogiczne) oraz omówienie ich cech i sposobów wykorzystania w procesie dydaktycznym. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na złożoność i ważność problemu, jakim jest tzw. słownik załącznikowy. Na potrzeby artykułu utworzono termin załącznikowy słownik glottodydaktyczny, przez który rozumie się słownik umieszczony na końcu podręcznika do nauki języka obcego. W założeniu teoretycznym na słownik załącznikowy składają się słowniki umieszczone w poszczególnych jednostkach dydaktycznych danego podręcznika. Zawartość słownika załącznikowego powinna zatem odzwierciedlać zawartość poszczególnych słowników lekcyjnych. Za podstawę analiz wybrano podręcznik Kamili Dembińskiej i Agnieszki Małyski Start 1 Survival Polish. Podręcznik do nauki języka polskiego na poziomie A0.
In the glottodidactic practice there was a breakthrough resulting from a change in the approach to teaching vocabulary. In the currently prevailing communication approach, attention is paid to the necessity of system, rather than systematic, teaching vocabulary, giving it a slightly higher rank. In this situation, glossodidactic reflection takes on the importance of dictionaries and analytical work devoted to them. Previous literature on the subject includes general and glottodidactic dictionaries (didactic and pedagogical) as well as discussion of their features and methods of use in the didactic process. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to the complexity and importance of the problem, which is so called the attachment dictionary. For the purpose of the article, the term attachment glottodidactic dictionary is formulated, which is understood as a dictionary placed at the end of the handbook for learning a foreign language. In the theoretical assumption, an attachment dictionary consists of dictionaries placed in individual didactic units of a given handbook. The contents of the attachment dictionary should therefore reflect the contents of the individual dictionaries. The handbook by Kamila Dembińska and Agnieszka Małyska Start 1 Survival Polish. Podręcznik do nauki języka polskiego na poziomie A0 [A guide to learning Polish at A0 level] was chosen as the basis for the analysis.

Polskie badania nad prawem rzymskim tradycyjnie dotyczą przede wszystkim prawa prywatnego oraz jego recepcji w europejskich systemach prawnych. Niewiele publikacji dotyczy jednak roli, jaką prawo rzymskie odegrało na Wyspach Brytyjskich. Jednym z istotnych wyjątków są badania Łukasza Jana Korporowicza z Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. W niniejszym artykule przeprowadzono analizę jego ostatniej książki pt. Prawo rzymskie w Anglii w XVIII wieku. Nauczanie, studia, nauka. Opisuje ona system nauczania prawa rzymskiego w Anglii w XVIII w. oraz rolę, jaką absolwenci studiów romanistycznych w Oxbridge odgrywali w ówczesnym społeczeństwie angielskim. Wskazano przede wszystkim na pionierski charakter recenzowanej pracy, podobna bowiem nie ukazała się jeszcze nie tylko w Polsce, ale i na świecie. Analizując kolejne części książki, dokonano ich krytycznej analizy oraz wskazano na jej silne i słabsze elementy. W konkluzjach wskazano na bardzo wysoki poziom naukowy recenzowanej książki.
Polish research on Roman law is traditionally concerned first of all on the private law and its reception in European legal systems. However, very few publications deal with the role Roman law played on the British Isles. One of the important exceptions is Łukasz Jan Korporowicz’s research from the University of Lodz. This article analyzes his last book entitled Prawo rzymskie w Anglii w XVIII wieku. Nauczanie, studia, nauka. It describes the system of teaching Roman law in England in the 18th century and the role that graduates of Roman studies at Oxbridge played in English society at the time. First of all, the pioneering nature of reviewed work was indicated, as a similar one has not yet been published not only in Poland, but also in the world. By analyzing the subsequent parts of the book, their critical analysis was made and its strong and weaker elements were indicated. The conclusions indicate a very high scientific level of the reviewed book.

We constantly ask ourselves about the quality of the education and upbringing system. In order to meet these questions, various systems and concepts appeared, including a new movement that combined teaching and education with the appropriate forms of productive activity of pupils. Soon this trend was called «work schools». In Poland, the newly emerging concept of the experimental school has been called the «creative school». It is not difficult to guess that the new method was quickly evaluated by experts, teachers and the students themselves. The esteemed catechist, Fr. Józef Rychlicki. The purpose of this article is not only to present the views of Fr. Rychlicki on the rightness of introducing the «creative school» method, but also reflection on the need to implement some of the postulates of this method in the contemporary educational system.
Nieustannie stawiamy sobie pytanie o jakość systemu nauczania i wychowywania. Wychodząc naprzeciw tym pytaniom, pojawiały się różne systemy i koncepcje, a wśród nich również nowy ruch, który łączył nauczanie i wychowanie z odpowiednimi formami działalności wytwórczej uczniów. W niedługim czasie nurt ten został nazwany „szkołami pracy”. Na gruncie polskim nowo pojawiająca się koncepcja szkoły eksperymentalnej została określona mianem „szkoły twórczej”. Nie trudno się domyśleć, że bardzo szybko nowa metoda została poddana ocenom ekspertów, uczących a także i samych uczniów. Swoją ocenę zaprezentował również ceniony katecheta ks. Józef Rychlicki. Zadaniem niniejszego artykułu jest nie tylko ukazanie poglądów ks. Rychlickiego na słuszność wprowadzania metody „szkoły twórczej”, ale również refleksja nad potrzebą zaimplementowania niektórych postulatów tej metody we współczesnym systemie edukacyjnym.

This paper is mainly concerned with the implications of cognitive linguistics for translation teaching and pedagogy. It sets out to succinctly chart some presumed shortcomings of replacement-based pedagogical methods that have long been centred around linear mechanical substitution of linguistic signs and patterns. Replacement approach, the paper argues, falls short of reinforcing what it takes to be the conceptual competence. In this connection, we account for our main assumption that translation teaching should be based on a sound theoretical footing that takes the conceptual system and the frames, or other structuring entities, populating it on board. Experimentally focusing on the conceptual system, cognitive linguistics’ framework, we contend building on some relevant literature, provides a wide range of far reaching procedural models conductive to the innovation of translation pedagogy and practice. The examples investigated in the paper reveal that translation teaching may be more prolific if it is equally based on such models, which inform our understanding of textual lexico-semantic units in terms of their surface functioning as prompts serving for dynamically constructing semantic-conceptual equivalence.

Student uniqueness demands that the teacher/catechist is inventive not only in the learning methods and teaching techniques employed but also in the way content is structured. Only in this way can the teacher ascertain that his/her students’ requirements are met and, consequently, student learning facilitated. However, teachers’ creativity should not mean haphazard choice of methods and techniques. Teaching is both an art and a science. The limitless nature of creativity should be used judiciously and made to bear fruit through the application of knowledge of educational psychology and instructional design. By using Adaptive Religious Education, the teacher may be guided to use different techniques in a methodical manner in order to ensure and enhance student learning. In particular, thesystematic use of different symbol systems can help teachers to improve student learning. The paper will put forward a number of principles and practical suggestions that may guide teachers in planning R.E. lessons.

W artykule opisano zmodernizowane stanowiska dydaktyczne wykorzystywane w czasie ćwiczeń laboratoryjnych z Wytrzymałości Materiałów na Wydziale Inżynierii Lądowej Politechniki Warszawskiej. Modernizacji dokonano poprzez wprowadzenie elektronicznej rejestracji siły w starszych maszynach wytrzymałościowych i stworzenie w środowisku LabVIEW programów komputerowych zbierających dane z różnych urządzeń pomiarowych.
The article describes modernization of some devices used during the laboratory exercises of the Strength of Materials at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Warsaw University of Technology. Modernization has been made through the introduction of electronic registration of force in old machines and the creation of computer programs collecting data from various measuring devices used.

Opis:
The author shares his experiences of university teaching during the time of restrictions imposed on teaching and learning modes due to a pandemic. The relative scarcity of literature analyzing the response in the fields of science and engineering to the pandemic served as motivation. After providing general background information about the pandemic’s impact on educational systems worldwide, the article provides qualitative research with a narrative model for a case study of an engineering program at an American university. The analyzed case concerns the teaching and learning methodologies implemented in an electro-mechanical engineering technology bachelor’s degree program at Pennsylvania State University – the Fayette campus in the academic years 2020-22. Pennsylvania State University’s chosen teaching modes in the time of the pandemic to be used by instructors provide an example of adaptability of a higher education institution to the changing teaching and learning circumstances. The pedagogical approach to preparing, delivering, and assessment of learning effectiveness in engineering courses with a laboratory component is described. The article also shows how to use the learning management system, Canvas, with its analytical utility tool, to improve effectiveness and responsiveness of the teaching and learning process. The shortcomings and unexpected benefits of learning online pedagogy are shared and discussed. To assess the students’ perception and the study mode and their preferences in this regard, an anonymous, closed-ended, nominal-polytomous questionnaire was conducted, and its findings are analyzed. Further, to compare the students’ preferences as regards study modes depending on the academic discipline, engineering students were contrasted with students studying business as their major. The surveys also provide answers to trends in the longer term in students’ expectations for delivery of programs by higher education institutions.
