Opis:
The paper addresses the emergence of interdisciplinarity in humanities research. In the first section, it looks at various conceptions of interdisciplinarity. Then, it discusses an interdisciplinary nature of reading research, overviewing the concept of reading as explored by different fields of science. Finally, as an example of an interdisciplinary study into reading comprehension, the study conducted by the author of the paper is presented. The process of planning and the initial stages of conducting the study are discussed, along with the advantages of drawing on several disciplines in the study.

Opis:
The paper focuses on the discussion on the development of multilingualism in Polish educational context whose distinctive features are: the domination of the Polish language, low percentage of immigrants, and relatively sparse national minorities. Because of this evident distinctness of the Polish situation in the aforementioned domain, the didactic proposals prepared within European projects are analyzed in a critical way. Moreover, an attempt is undertaken to define the aims and the motivation that would take into consideration the characteristics of Polish educational context. On the basis of the definition of multilingual competence, the article aims to define certain basic foundations of multilingual education in Polish schools. Among other proposals, the central one is a postulate of departing from „monolingual methodics” that is from teaching successive languages in isolation from other learned languages (the native tongue included).

The presented article reviews changes in the Polish system of foreign language teaching that have or should have occurred in the last half a century. The suggested time span encompasses the utilization of two major didactic methods which have been in use since the 1970s, i.e. the Communicative Method and the Task-Based Approach. The article consists of two major parts. The first one outlines the history and main methodological facets of the Communicative and Task-Based Approaches. The second part provides an analysis of the current state of affairs in Polish schools, based on surveys carried out among Polish teachers and students of foreign languages.

The article refers to Li’s research conducted so as to “illustrate features of classroom interaction in EFL classrooms where teachers facilitate or obstruct opportunities to develop learners’ thinking skills”. The data for it, gathered during 2005-2009, come from a data pool consisting of 18 video-recorded EFL lessons of both lower secondary and upper secondary Chinese students, with their English levels ranging from lower intermediate to upper-intermediate. Li's findings are of tripartite character and suggest that: 1) “language classrooms are complex social and discourse communities”, 2) “it is the teacher who manages the turn-taking and -giving in such classroom discourse” and, finally 3) “thinking activities can be identified by examining the role of language in classroom activities”.

The article provides theoretical substantiation for multimedia-assisted teaching foreign languages on the basis of the developed methodological recommendations, which appeared to be a solid background for successful mastering a foreign language. Since in today’s labour market is a need in specialists having a sufficient level of communicative skills, university teachers are expected to rely on effective methods for enhancing students’ cognitive abilities, which in turn will develop student’s independency and flexibility in lifelong self-learning. Provided are some results of the experiment, which prove the positive impact of the suggested methodological support on successful learning foreign languages
Artykuł ten stanowi teoretyczne uzasadnienie dla zastosowania multimedialnego wspomagania nauczania języków obcych. Opracowano w nim zalecenia metodologiczne, które okazały się trwałą podstawą dla skutecznego opanowania języka obcego. PoniewaŜ na dzisiejszym rynku pracy występuje zapotrzebowanie na specjalistów posiadających odpowiedni poziom umiejętności komunikacyjnych, nauczyciele akademiccy mają polegać na skutecznych metodach zwiększających zdolności poznawcze studentów, które rozwijają niezaleŜność i elastyczność ucznia w ustawicznym samokształceniu. Wyniki przeprowadzonego eksperymentu dowodzą, iŜ istnieje pozytywny wpływ proponowanego wsparcia metodologicznego na sukces w uczeniu się języków obcych

The main purpose of the article is to determine whether multimedia technologies present sufficiently high level to enable them to effectively support teaching of foreign languages and the level of their use in this goal. That is why the comparative analysis of the multimedia applications from this area was made and also was done the poll analysis viewing user reviews on their usefulness, effectiveness and efficiency.

Before 1989, the main foreign language being taught in Polish schools was Russian, due to the socio-political ties with Moscow. Second and third tier foreign languages were French and Ger-man. After the fall of communism, and especially after Poland joined the EU, the demand for English Translational Studies has grown significantly, at the cost of German programs. In this paper, the authoresses try to analyze the cultural foundations for these phenomena.

The article describes some main problems that Bulgarian students meet during their study of Polish language. The main mistakes in usage of Polish prepositions are grouped in several typological categories and the possible reasons for those mistakes are briefly described. The article is based on a corpus of mistakes made by students that study Polish at the University of Veliko Turnovo. The analysis allows to classify the main difficulties in acquiring Polish prepositions and to build conscious strategy that allows avoiding them in the process of teaching Polish language.

W artykule przedstawiono multimedialną grę dydaktyczną I SPY (poz. A2–B1), przeznaczoną dla młodzieży uczącej się kilku europejskich języków obcych, w tym języka polskiego. Polskojęzyczna wersja gry przygotowywana jest obecnie w ramach projektu edukacyjnego, w którym uczestniczy Uniwersytet Łódzki. W części teoretycznej artykułu gra została ukazana jako narzędzie umożliwiające realizację zasad podejścia ludycznego oraz zadaniowego. W części głównej – analitycznej – skoncentrowano się na określeniu przydatności gry w zakresie skłaniania użytkowników języka do podejmowania działań językowych wynikających z wcześniej postawionych zadań.
The multimedia educational game I SPY is addressed to the A2–B1 level learners of six European languages: English, Dutch, Spanish, German, Romanian, and Polish. The game was created by the international team with the participation of the University of Łódź School of Polish for Foreigners. The authors of the article, and co-creators of Polish version of the game as well, present the game as an effective tool for realization of the assumptions of the ludic and action-oriented approaches to learning and teaching foreign languages. In the main, analytical, part of the article, the authors concentrate on defining the effectiveness of the game in making learners undertake the linguistic activities in order to perform various tasks set in the game.

W artykule poruszana jest problematyka związana z nauczaniem języka polskiego za pomocą muzyki popularnej. Omawia się sposoby wykorzystania wybranych utworów na zajęciach językowych, zasady doboru odpowiedniego repertuaru oraz korzyści płynące z wprowadzenia muzyki do procesu dydaktyczny. Wskazuje się także rolę piosenek jako tekstów kultury w nauczaniu języka polskiego jako obcego (jpjo). Zamieszczone w artykule tytuły piosenek są tylko wybranymi przez autora propozycjami i z pewnością nie wyczerpują problematyki związanej z nauczaniem jpjo za pomocą muzyki popularnej.
The article presents the issue of teaching Polish by the means of pop music. The author shows how some pop songs can be used during the Polish classes and how to select the right repertoire. He also presents the benefits of using pop music as a teaching material and the role of pop songs as cultural texts in teaching Polish as a foreign language. The songs presented in the article are only the author´s suggestions and they do not exhaust the subject of teaching Polish as a foreign language by means of pop music.

Artykuł zawiera przegląd zawartości najnowszych podręczników do nauczania języka biznesu i do studiowania ekonomii. Uzasadnia się w nim potrzebę włączania tekstów prasowych do programu kursu językowego. Sformułowano kryteria doboru publikacji prasowych: aktualność tematu, powiązanie z dyscypliną przyszłych studiów, odniesienie do wiedzy studentów, do poziomu kompetencji językowych determinowanych przez: słownictwo (terminy), stopień skomplikowania składni, realioznawstwo, przejrzystość wywodu, sposób prowadzenia dyskursu. Określono pozytywne skutki wprowadzania tekstów publicystycznych na lektorat: wzbogacenie wiedzy, rozwijanie poszczególnych sprawności językowych, wzmocnienie relacji nauczyciel‒student, wzrost motywacji, kształtowanie niezależności intelektualnej studentów, wprowadzenie tekstów o zróżnicowanej stylistyce. Opisano realizacje scenariuszy lektoratów z wykorzystaniem tekstów publicystycznych, podkreślono możliwości zastosowania strategii uczenia się i technik nauczania.
The article includes the review of the newest handbooks used in teaching economy and Polish in business. It justifies the need of including journalistic texts in the language course program. It also proposes a set the criteria of texts selection: currentness of the topics, connection with the area of future studies, making use of students' knowledge and language skills determined by vocabulary, syntax complexity, reality knowledge, clarity of reasoning, the manner of dispute. The article lists the positive effects of including journalistic texts. They include the broadening of students' knowledge, the development of particular language skills, the improvement in teacher-student relationship, the enhancement of motivation, and the development of students` intellectual independence. The author describes different lesson plans with the use of journalistic texts, at the same time stressing the possibility of introducing various learning strategies and techniques.

This paper proposes a system of advisory for parents looking for a language school for their child. It describes and discusses examples of tools to search for a language school and takes an account of methods of teaching a foreign language, and age of the child, who is to attend the classes. The article briefly characterizes each method of teaching foreign languages as well as describes the concept of an expert system, briefly describes the main features in above systems. The expert system can greatly facilitate and improve decision made by parents due to the “big expert knowledge” which takes into account child’s individual personality traits and their language potential.
