Artykuł poświęcony jest zbadaniu struktury fabularnej nowel alegorycznych Jakuba Kołasa z cyklu „Baśnie życia”. Przedmiotem zainteresowania są niektóre modyfikacje wewnętrzne oraz transformacje twórcze archetypowych „formuł” fabularnych (mitologicznych, folklorystycznych) jako wynik przezwyciężenia przez fabułę „baśni życia” swojej podstawy strukturalnej, w której roli widzi się przede wszystkim fabuła baśni ludowej. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy „morfologicznej” fabuł nowel Kołasa rozpatrywany jest problem autorskiego wznowienia baśniowych archetypów fabularnych w wątku literackim, „zanik” warunkowy w nim stereotypu strukturalnego baśni ludowej oraz narodziny fenomenu rodzajowego – „baśni życia”.
The article is dedicated to the study of plot-construction in allegoric novels of the cycle “Life’s Fairy Tales” by Yakub Kolas. Certain inner modifications and creative transformations of archetype plot “formulae” (mythological, folklore) as the result of breaking by the “life’s fairy tales” of the plot of its structural proto-bases, which is seen in the folklore fairy tale plot, are examined in the article. On the basis of the “morphological” analysis of the plots of the novels written by Kolas the issue is regarded about the authorial renewal of fairy tales’ archetypes in a literary plot, the conditional “death” of the structural fairy tale stereotype in this plot and the birth of the genre phenomenon of a “life’s fairy tale”.

The introduction into contemporary linguistics (the linguistics o f discourse) o f such new terms as discourse picture o f the world and discourse picture o f cortege interactionbroadens the possibilities o f folk-tale discourse studies and simultaneously enriches the research database on national styles. The author reconstructs discourse pictures out ofBelarusian and 1 Ikrainian folk-tales and projects them onto existing models o f current civilizational development (those centered around one o f four key composing elements:dialogue, conflict, parallel existence, and centrism). The methods of reconstructing discourse pictures of the world and interaction together with the methods of analyticalcommenting and projecting help to extend research ffames ffom the functional to the dynamie. This is especially important in the research on folk-tale discourse, as it presentsprototypical texts in the dynamics of permanent change o f content focusing, and thus as truły alive and socially involved.

“GENRE MEMORY” AND ITS METAMORPHOSIS IN A LITERARY TALE BY A.A. MILNEThe nucleus of Milne’s literary tale dilogy (Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at the Pooh Corner) is an archaic folklore-mythological spatio-temporal structure and its specific subject realization that have proved capable of development, metamorphosis, synthesis with other deep structures and have led to the formation of literary genres of a neo-mythological character – literary tale, story and fantasy.In Milne’s tales there is no traditional struggle between Good and Evil, there are practically no “miraculous” objects and magical powers. The action is not based on the confrontation between the two sides, representing different moral principles (as in a traditional fairy tale), but involves the transition of the hero, Christopher Robin, from the world of childhood to the adult world, acquiring a higher social status, the development of abilities and skills of various characters to solve different life problems, first at the level of choice of options from the accumulated empirical experience, and then at the level of abstraction from real specifics to the skills of logical analysis and mastering written speech and the basics of mathematics. This results in the acquisition of a new level of knowledge and the development of a new way of understanding of the world (the creation of the cosmos from chaos).

Opis:
The widely known literary fairy tale was born as a genre in Europe in the beginning of the XIX century. Almost everywhere its birth was preceded by collecting, recording, studying, processing and editing of folk tales. Russian literary fairy tale (Odoevsky, Ershov, Zhukovsky, Pushkin, Gogol, etc.) is created during this period. In the second half of XIX century, the Georgian literary fairy tale is evolved in the footsteps of these events. Similar to Russian literature, its publication precedes the publication of folklore texts. It is important to note, that unlike the Russian authors the famous Georgian writers (Akaki Tsereteli, Vazha-Pshavela ...) successfully use literary fairy tales for the artistic interpretation of the national problem. It is noteworthy, that Georgian and Russian literary fairy tales identically follow the genre-specific peculiarities and common literary tendencies.

Opis:
W epoce średniowiecza i wczesnej nowożytności w Połocku istniało wiele rozpoznawalnych miejsc pamięci. Kult książąt i świętych miał metrykę staroruską, a w czasach Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego uzupełniony został nie tylko o nowsze odpowiedniki, ale także o symbolikę miejską i ziemską, o nazwę krainy Biała Ruś i inne. Od przełomu XV i XVI w. coraz bardziej zauważalny był wpływ kultury Zachodu na miejsca pamięci Połocka.   В эпоху Средневековья и раннего Нового времени в Полоцке существовал ряд узнаваемых мест памяти. От древнерусской эпохи вели свое происхождение культы князей и святых, во времена Великого княжества Литовского этот ряд был дополнен не только их более новыми аналогами, но также городской и земельной символикой, названием края Белая Русь и прочим. С рубежа XV–XVI веков места памяти Полоцка испытывали на себе все более заметное влияние западной культуры.
In the Middle Ages and the Early Modern era, there was a number of recognisable sites of remembrance in Polotsk. The cult of princes and saints originated in the period of Old Rus’, while in times of the Great Duchy of Lithuania the sites were not only complemented with new analogues, but also with the municipal and land symbols, including the land’s name White Rus’, and others. From the turn of the sixteenth century, the Polotsk memorial places were increasingly influenced by the West European culture.

This article reviews the placing in Tale’s text history of three records of The Tale on the Origin of Tobacco from the collection entitled Pandok stored in Saint Petersburg archives which were not analyzed earlier: BAN, Lukyanov collection, No. 107 (XVIII c.); NLR, collection of Kolobov, No. 334 (XVIII c.), and IRLI, Severodvinsk collection, No. 29 (XIX c.). The author demonstrates that the Lukyanov record and the Kolobov record belong to type I of the Tale’s main revision by the Institute of Russian Literature, and the record of the Severodvinsk collection combined the patterns of type I and type II. Textual analysis helped to identify the records of type I and type II ex-amined earlier by the author which were most similar to the text of three Tale’s records analyzed in this article.

The article Reading It Still Again. A Few Words on Fairy Tales in the World of the Witcher discusses selected issues related to short stories from the volume The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski, featuring the famous character of the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia. Offering a comparative close reading of The Lesser Evil and The Grain of Truth, Karolina Zastępska proceeds with contextualising the terms of, respectively, a fairy tale and a fantasy. By doing so, the author (re)approaches the narrative device of retelling, understood as here as a renarration of fairy tales, legends, themes and threads both from literary and cultural texts.

The main focus of the present paper is the so-called ”intertextual revision”, explored as one of the most recent and innovative strategies employed while reviving the legacy of the Danish fairy-tale classic Hans Christian Andersen. In order to illustrate this practice, I discuss a short story entitled Travels with the Snow Queen (2001), by an American writer Kelly Link, which is a reworking of Andersen's world-famous fairy tale The Snow Queen (1844). Link's take on Andersen's tale represents one of the leading directions within revisionary fairy-tale fiction, inspired by feminism and gender criticism. The analysis is centered around the narrative strategies employed by the author in order to challenge the gender logic incorporated into Andersen's account, as well as the broader fairy-tale tradition it belongs to.

The article discusses the role of the city in Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by the philosopher Leszek Kołakowski, and in the animated film series Fourteen Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by Leszek Kołakowski, which is an adaptation of the book. The article is written from the point of view of the originator of the adaptation and the screenwriter of all the films in the series. The author examines the historical and ideological context of L. Kołakowski’s writing the Tales … and analyzes the role of the city understood as the setting of the plot (topos) and the venue for an exchange of ideas (agora) and for the community (polis); he does so on three levels: that of the literary original, the screenplay adaptation, and the film. He also examines the role of the city in those senses for the drama of the individual films, the philosophical and esthetic premises of the role, and – in these contexts – the relations between the selected films and their screenplays.

Henryk Rzewuski’s (1791–1866) works cannot be a source of knowledge about Polish-LithuanianCommonwealth’s legal history. The pieces of information given by him have been at times one-sided and deceptive. Nevertheless, they may – if used with a critical approach – provide details on the old jurisprudence in the 19th century and on the praxis of applying the old law under Russian rule. They also can be a research base on the author’s views on the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth’s legal and political system, as well as their portrayal in the 19th-century gawęda szlachecka (literary genre associated primarily with noble storytelling, specific to Polish literature of that time). It is also worth continuing the search for – mentioned in Rzewuski’s manuscript – the two-volume Remarks on the Lithuanian Statute written by his father, Adam Wawrzyniec Rzewuski and allegedly published in1782, in Nieśwież. Although there is no certainty whether this work ever existed, it is worth searching for it.
Prace Henryka Rzewuskiego (1791–1866) nie mogą być źródłem poznania dawnego prawa Rzeczypospolitej. Podane przezeń informacje były niekiedy jednostronne, niekiedy zaś dość bałamutne. Mogą jednak – przy krytycznym podejściu – dostarczać danych na temat znajomości prawa dawnej Rzeczypospolitej w XIX stuleciu i praktyce stosowania dawnego prawa pod rządami rosyjskimi. Mogą też być podstawą badań poglądów ich autora na prawo i ustrój Rzeczypospolitej, jak również obrazu tego prawa w dziewiętnastowiecznej gawędzie szlacheckiej. Warto też kontynuować poszukiwania – wskazanej w rękopisie Henryka Rzewuskiego – wydanej ponoć w 1782 r. w Nieświeżu dwutomowej pracy autorstwa jego ojca – Adama Wawrzyńca Rzewuskiego pt. Uwagi nad Statutem litewskim. Nie ma pewności, czy dzieło to w ogóle powstało, lecz poszukiwać warto.

The article analyzes relations between the text and the image as two different semiotic modes in the framework of multimodal studies. Key theoretical approaches to this issue are outlined. Visual and verbal narratives are examined at three levels: ideational, interpersonal and textual. The ideational meaning system comprises actions, characters and circumstances. The interpersonal system covers a wide range of issues connected with interaction between the reader and the characters. The textual meaning is realized by giving prominence to certain objects in the image or the text. Logico-semantic relations of elaboration, enhancement and extension are revealed. Elaboration is characterized by clarification and exemplification, the image may be more general than the text, and vice versa. Enhancement relations include various circumstances (temporal, spatial, causal), besides, both the text and the image may enhance each other. Extension adds new, semantically unrelated information and offers alternative ways of story unfolding. The research is based on contemporary picture books (J. Scieszka, L. Anholt, F. French, R. Munsch) and illustrated fairy tales (E. Delessert, B. Ensor) and directed at revealing various types of text-image relations.

Zasadniczym celem artykułu jest prezentacja ludowej bajki konkursowej oraz próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy jest to nowa forma folkloru. Podstawę materiałową rozważań stanowią przekazy/teksty nadsyłane na konkursy ludoznawcze ogłaszane w latach 1955–1966 przez Muzeum Etnograficzne im. Marii Znamierowskiej-Prüfferowej w Toruniu, Polskie Towarzystwo Ludoznawcze – Oddział Toruń oraz Polskie Radio w Bydgoszczy. Z ponad 6 500 nadesłanych tekstów uwzględniono w badaniach jedynie bajki (ponad 350), które w założeniu organizatorów konkursów (łącznie odbyło się sześć) miały stanowić zapis tradycyjnych chłopskich przekazów. Wybrane opowieści, w większości realizacje znanych wątków opisanych w Polskiej bajce ludowej w układzie systematycznym przez Juliana Krzyżanowskiego, poddano analizie, wydobywając z nich cechy zarówno je łączące, jak i odrębne w stosunku do przekazów z przeszłości, aby scharakteryzować nowe zjawisko, z którym mamy do czynienia, czyli ludową bajkę konkursową.
The aim of the article is both to describe the competition folk tale and to attempt to answer the question whether it is a new form of folklore. The material basis for the considerations are the texts sent to the ethnological competitions announced in the years 1955–1966 by Maria Znamierowska-Prüfferowa Ethnographic Museum in Toruń, the Polish Ethnological Society, Toruń Branch, the and Polish Radio in Bydgoszcz. Out of over 6,500 submitted texts, the analysis includes only fairy tales (over 350) which, according to the assumptions of the organizers of the competitions (of which there were 6 in total), were to be a record of traditional peasant texts. Selected stories, mostly realisations of well-known threads described in the Polish folk tale in a systematic order by Julian Krzyżanowski, were analysed, extracting from them common and distinct features in relation to earlier folk texts, in order to characterise the new phenomenon, i.e. competition folk tale.

The  article’s  main  subject  refers  to  some  magical  aspects  of  the  literary  communication which might  be  observed  in  the  selected  examples  of Polish  fairy  tale,  composed  in  the nineteenth century and at the beginning of the twentieth one. The crucial issue of the article concerns  a  certain relationship between  the  magic  words’  and  the  silence’s  forms  and  the folk world outlook which reveals itself as a realm, constituted on a structure of opposition. Moreover,  in  the  paper  one  may also  encounter  with  a  characteristics  of  the  functions  of spells, whispers and scenes of silence that appear in the folk tales.

Opis:
The main aim of the article is to show the functioning of bajarze in Polish culture, understood not as storytellers, but as collections of fairy tales. They began to be published in the 19th century and continue to be published today. The first Bajarz polski by Antoni Józef Gliński was created in 1853, and the latest, Współczesny bajarz polski, by Zuzanna Orlińska – in 2021. Over the centuries, many other collections of tales were released: their main goal has been to popularize Polish and/or folk traditions. The article presents known collections and shows their changing functions.
Podstawowym celem artykułu jest pokazanie funkcjonowania w kulturze polskiej bajarzy rozumianych nie jako gawędziarze, ale zbiory baśni. Zaczęto je publikować w XIX w. i wydaje się je aż do tej pory. Pierwszy, Bajarz polski Antoniego Józefa Glińskiego, powstał w 1853 r., ostatni zaś, Współczesny bajarz polski  Zuzanny Orlińskiej, w 2021 r. Na przestrzeni wieków powstało wiele innych bajarzy, których głównym zadaniem bya popularyzacja polskich bądź/i ludowych tradycji. W artykule zaprezentowano znane zbiory i ukazano ich zmieniające się funkcje.
