Opis:
The systematic acquisition of knowledge is an important skill. Nevertheless, students seem to have problems with proper planning of their education and preparing their tasks on time. Referring to behavioral economics, this can be explained with the planner and doer model. This draws attention to the problems with self-control and describes the dilemma caused by internal tension between favorable long-term plans and short-term actions distracting attention from implementation of the former. The aim of the article was to analyze student activity in e-learning classes. The analysis concerned a group of students regularly performing assigned tasks and the spread of their activities within the given period. It also allowed investigations into whether the time of submitting the task affected its quality and whether systematic work during the semester affected the exam result. The analysis of student activity in the e-learning classes shows that: • There was a large group of students regularly submitting tasks, but there was also a group who never prepared any of them. • The spread of activity over particular days showed that most posts were published on the last two days of the given period. • There was a relationship between the time of submitting the task and its evaluation – the posts from the final two days received a lower average number of points than those from previous days. • There was a positive relationship between the ongoing performance of the tasks and the exam results. The analysis presented here is a preliminary study but shows some trends among the students.

Opis:
Background: The importance of Software Change Prediction (SCP) has been emphasized by several studies. Numerous prediction models in literature claim to effectively predict change-prone classes in software products. These models help software managers in optimizing resource usage and in developing good quality, easily maintainable products. Aim: There is an urgent need to compare and assess these numerous SCP models in order to evaluate their effectiveness. Moreover, one also needs to assess the advancements and pitfalls in the domain of SCP to guide researchers and practitioners. Method: In order to fulfill the above stated aims, we conduct an extensive literature review of 38 primary SCP studies from January 2000 to June 2019. Results: The review analyzes the different set of predictors, experimental settings, data analysis techniques, statistical tests and the threats involved in the studies, which develop SCP models. Conclusion: Besides, the review also provides future guidelines to researchers in the SCP domain, some of which include exploring methods for dealing with imbalanced training data, evaluation of search-based algorithms and ensemble of algorithms for SCP amongst others.

Opis:
The paper first brings an overview of spoken interaction in FL and flipped learning principles. This overview is followed by a thorough didactic report on how these two processes can be merged, how teaching materials can be prepared, and how the teaching and learning process can be systematically developed in order to extensively support learners’ efforts to speak at level B1 in Italian as a FL. Both positive and less positive aspects of a one-semester project are discussed. Finally, some conclusive glotodidactic implications stemming from the experience are proposed.

Opis:
Directed motivational currents, unique and intense goal-directed motivational surges lasting over a period of time, have received increasing attention recently. This article reports the first systematic review of this phenomenon. A total of 21 reports appearing between 2013 and 2020 were included in the analysis. The results show that the majority of empirical reports were small-scale qualitative studies (median = 18 participants). The evidence on the three characteristics proposed as necessary and/or distinguishing conditions of directed motivational currents (vision, salient facilitative structure, and positive affect) is inconclusive due to the presence of directed motivational currents cases not exhibiting these features, and the absence of direct comparative analyses with non-directed motivational currents cases. A few intervention studies (N = 4) were conducted, but their results are also inconclusive due to a number of methodological limitations. Contrary to the claim that directed motivational current experiences are the “optimal form” of motivation, the results additionally showed that these experiences could lead to intense stress, anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, and panic attacks, thereby raising ethical concerns about deliberately inducing directed motivational currents in learners. We conclude that, although the concept of directed motivational currents is promising, more research is needed to reach a better understanding of its potential. We end this article by suggesting directions for future research into directed motivational currents, including renaming them as sustained flow.

Opis:
Background: The use of ensemble techniques have steadily gained popularity in several software quality assurance activities. These aggregated classifiers have proven to be superior than their constituent base models. Though ensemble techniques have been widely used in key areas such as Software Defect Prediction (SDP) and Software Change Prediction (SCP), the current state-of-the-art concerning the use of these techniques needs scrutinization. Aim: The study aims to assess, evaluate and uncover possible research gaps with respect to the use of ensemble techniques in SDP and SCP. Method: This study conducts an extensive literature review of 77 primary studies on the basis of the category, application, rules of formulation, performance, and possible threats of the proposed/utilized ensemble techniques. Results: Ensemble techniques were primarily categorized on the basis of similarity, aggregation, relationship, diversity, and dependency of their base models. They were also found effective in several applications such as their use as a learning algorithm for developing SDP/SCP models and for addressing the class imbalance issue. Conclusion: The results of the review ascertain the need of more studies to propose, assess, validate, and compare various categories of ensemble techniques for diverse applications in SDP/SCP such as transfer learning and online learning.

Opis:
This paper introduces a systematic literature review as a tool for both training (TNA) and learning (LNA) needs analyses. Additionally, given the systematic approach it presents findings on core skills in ICT industries obtained using both academic and grey literature analyses applied few and far between by scholars. In particular, the aim of the paper is to show systematic literature review as valuable not only in an academic field (namely for scientists, scholars, and researchers) but also for practitioners. Therefore, it is claimed to be useful for companies interested in employees’ development and training as well as for educational institutions interested in tailoring of their training programs and educational offer to business requirements and students’ needs.
