    In this article, we describe and assess the implementation of several methods of multi-criteria decision-making using a web-based computer application. Such an application makes it easier to determine the effectiveness of decisions. The methods adopted in this application are SMART (Simple Multi-Attribute Rating Technique), AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process), and ANP (Analytic Network Process). Each of these methods has distinctive characteristics in determining the best alternative for the user. This study assesses the feasibility of each method in the application. The application is assessed based on functionality, reliability, efficiency, and usability. (1) Functionality is tested according to the appropriateness of the decisions made, (2) Reliability is assessed using stress testing, (3) Efficiency is assessed according to the computational effort, and (4) System usability is tested according to the user's answers to the Computer System Usability Questionnaire authored by J.R. Lewis. This research results in a decision support system based on SMART that has been appropriately tested and is ready for use.

    Opis:
    Economic indicators provide much information concerning the functioning of an enterprise. Their usefulness depends also on decision-makers' comprehension of structural and semantic connections existing between indicators. Visualization of a semantic network in the topic map allows users to more swiftly notice and understand various relations. The main goal of this paper is to discuss the research on heuristic evaluation of visualization in the semantic searching for economic information. This study consists of three experiments with the participants. We used the two author’s applications of the ontologies for return on investment indicator and for early warning system. In this paper we analyze and compare the results of these experiments.

    The paper presents selected issues related from verification of visualizations of mechanical hazards for meat cutting: band saw machine, circular machine and skinning machine. This visualiazations was made as OSH training materials or support OSH training materials for users of machines for meat. Therefore visualizations have been subject to veryfcation. This veryfication has been performed with the participation of employees using of this tipe machines. Results of this verification Has been presented on this paper.
    W artykule przedstawiono wybrane zagadnienia związane z weryfikacją wizualizacji zagrożeń mechanicznych maszyn do rozbioru mięsa: przecinarek taśmowej i tarczowej oraz skórowaczki. Wizualizacje te powstały, jako materiały szkoleniowe bądź wspomagające szkolenia z zakresu BHP podczas obsługi maszyn do mięsa. Zostały one poddane weryfikacji przez osoby związane na co dzień z branżą mięsną, a w szczególności przez pracowników mających styczność z tego typu maszynami. Wyniki tej weryfikacji zostały opisane w niniejszym artykule.

    Mobile devices are widely replacing the standard personal computers thanks to their small size and userfriendly use. As a consequence, the amount of information, often confidential, exchanged through these devices is raising. This makes them potential targets of malicious network hackers. The use of simple passwords or PIN are not sufficient to provide a suitable security level for those applications requiring high protection levels on data and services. In this paper a biometric authentication system, as a running Android application, has been developed and implemented on a real mobile device. A system test on real users has been also carried out in order to evaluate the human-machine interaction quality, the recognition accuracy of the proposed technique, and the scheduling latency of the operating system and its degree of acceptance. Several measures, such as system usability, users satisfaction, and tolerable speed for identification, have been carried out in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach.

    Opis:
    Rapid deployment of IT brings about new issues with software usability measurement. Usability is based on users’ experience and is strongly subjective, having a qualitative character. The users’ comfort is usually collected by surveys in their daily work. The present article stems from an experimental study related to the evaluation of the usability of tools by a rule-based system. The work suggests a robust computational model that will be able to avoid the main problems arising from the experimental study (a large and less-legible rule base) and to deal with the vagueness of IT user experience, different levels of skills and various numbers of filled questionnaires in different departments. The computational model is based on three hierarchical levels of aggregation supported by fuzzy logic. Choices for the most suitable aggregation functions in each level are advocated and illustrated with examples. The number of questions and granularity of answers in this approach can be adjusted to each user group, which could reduce the response burden and errors. Finally, the paper briefly describes further possibilities of the suggested approach.

    Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badania, którego celem była ocena użyteczności ewaluacji realizowanych na potrzeby regionalnych programów operacyjnych 2007–2013 (RPO). Badanymi elementami, składającymi się na użyteczność ewaluacji, były: jakość, adekwatność i wiarygodność wniosków wynikających z ewaluacji. Badanie zrealizowano w formie analizy dokumentów na reprezentatywnej próbie 71 raportów ewaluacyjnych ukończonych w latach 2008–2012. Wyniki badania pokazują, że wiele raportów nie dostarcza istotnych rekomendacji oraz nie udziela odpowiedzi na kluczowe pytania badawcze. Najczęściej w trakcie ewaluacji nie udaje się odpowiedzieć na pytanie o wpływ RPO na rozwój społeczno-gospodarczy województw. Zaobserwowana niska użyteczność dokonywanych ocen stanowi podstawę do sformułowania wniosków o negatywnych trendach w rozwoju systemu ewaluacji RPO, obejmujących nastawienie systemu na dostarczanie prostych informacji i „produkcję raportów”, a nie zaspokajanie faktycznego popytu na wiedzę.
    The paper presents an analysis of usability of regional operational programmes 2007−2013 (ROP) evaluations. The elements of usability under study are: quality, relevance, and credibility of the evaluation assumptions. The study consists in desk research of a representative sample (n = 71) of the evaluation reports completed between 2008 and 2012. The results show that many reports do not contain important recommendations and do not answer key research questions. In most cases, the evaluations fail to supply an answer on the impact of ROP on the socio-economic development of regions. The limited usefulness of evaluation reports leads to conclusions about negative trends in the development of the ROP evaluation system, which is focused on providing simple information, reports production, and does not respond to actual demand for knowledge.

    In recent years, the phenomenon of depopulation and shrinkage of cities has been observed. The depopulation of large cities is undoubtedly a demographic fact. The process of urban depopulation has recently become the theme of numerous reports and alarmist research works. However, it can be concluded that the diagnostic background of this phenomenon has got a narrow methodical foundation. As a measure of depopulation, the number of permanent residents is usually taken (according to the place of residence). Thus, the diversity, complexity and dynamics of processes taking place in contemporary cities are ignored. Postmodern reality appears as a segregated, separated world. Therefore, the diagnostic approaches currently used should be discussed. Going further, one can conclude that the measurement of depopulation and shrinkage of cities by the number of permanent residents is a simplification, because it ignores the essence of urbanity, which is the diversity of values offered by the urban space of exchange (i.e. the utility value). The article presents therefore the new concept of the measurement for shrinking of cities. Ideas discussed in the paper are expected to stimulate critical exchange of views among urban researchers. In the authors’ opinion, the sin of social-economic geography and spatial economics consists in boiling down great human affairs to aspects of correct representativeness.
    W ostatnich latach obserwuje się zjawisko wyludniania i kurczenia się miast. Depopulacja dużych miast jest bez wątpienie faktem demograficznym. Proces depopulacji miast stał się podstawą licznych raportów i alarmistycznych prac badawczych. Można jednak stwierdzić, że podstawy diagnostyczne wspomnianego zjawiska mają zawężony fundament metodyczny. Jako miarę depopulacji przyjmuje się zazwyczaj liczbę stałych mieszkańców (według miejsca zamieszkania). W ten sposób pomija się różnorodność, złożoność i dynamikę procesów zachodzących we współczesnych miastach. Postmodernistyczna rzeczywistość jawi się jako posegregowany, separowany świat. Należy zatem poddać pod dyskusję stosowane podejścia diagnostyczne. Idąc dalej, można uznać, że pomiar wyludniania i kurczenia się miast według liczby stałych mieszkańców jest uproszczony, ponieważ ignoruje istotę miejskości, czyli różnorodność walorów miejskiej przestrzeni wymiany (ich wartość użytkową). Idee zawarte w artykule powinny wywołać krytyczną dyskusję w gronie badaczy zajmujących się kwestiami miast. Zdaniem autorów grzechem współczesnej geografii społeczno-ekonomicznej i gospodarki przestrzennej jest sprowadzanie wielkich spraw człowieka do zagadnień poprawnej reprezentatywności.

    The paper presents the framework of usability testing of ECDIS equipment based on the IMO’s Guidelines on Software Quality Assurance and Human-centred Design for e-Navigation. By incorporating the eye tracking techniques into the procedure it was possible to measure the visual attention distribution and the cognitive work-load. The presented method could be used to evaluate usability of every e-navigation system, which is necessary to ensure that the seafarers are able to successfully perform primary operations of systems upgraded with e-navigation functions, regardless of the type and specifications of the system and users’ knowledge and experience with the system. The initial results are presented and discussed as the study is still ongoing.
