Opis:
The article presents the theoretical aspects of sustainable development and career counselling. It also describes the expectations of young people and teachers towards career counselling, understood as a new strategy of joint efforts to create a good and safe future for the residents in which they have the certainty of finding decent jobs. The changes taking place in the modern world make the ways the young people were supported thus far insufficient. Therefore, the author of this article undertook research aimed at determining what models of career counselling are preferred by young people and the teachers who work as career counsellors in schools, how students perceive the attractiveness of vocational schools, and how the teachers assess the adaptation of the vocational education system to the requirements of the local labour market. Author's own questionnaires were used. Diagnostic surveys were conducted among the participants of the project Vocational education in schools as a springboard to sustainable development of staff on the Legionowo’s labour market. The questionnaires were completed by 221 students and 13 teachers. Studies have shown that while 64% of students do not have a good opinion about the offer of vocational schools in Legionowo, 65% of those surveyed do not rule out working in the city. It was found that most of the surveyed teachers rate the adaptation of the vocational education system in the Legionowo's county to the a) requirements of the local labour market and b) the interest of students in career counselling as good. The study revealed two career counselling models preferred by the teachers: 1) a model of counselling carried out during hours available to the class teacher and during workshops with a career advisor and 2) a model in the framework of cooperation with the labour market. Both models coincide with youth-preferred forms of vocational counselling classes: 63% of students chose meetings with a career advisor, 40% of respondents mentioned visits to workplaces, Career offices, the Employment Bureau, 35% indicated participation in job fairs.

Theoretical background: The article discusses the activities of organizations located in Poland in the field of sustainable development (SD). This is a specific development, which considers the needs of future generations. These activities may concern environmental, social or economic issues. The identified knowledge gap refers to the type of the most common SD-activities, possible partners in such projects, employee involvement and motivation to participate in such activities, and the perceived advantages and negative aspects of SD-projects.Purpose of the article: The purpose of the article is to evaluate the activities of organizations located in Poland in the field of sustainable development. The described issues include: the type of the most common SD-activities, possible partners in such projects, employee involvement and motivation to participate in such activities, and the perceived advantages and negative aspects of SD-projects.Research methods: The empirical material was obtained from 13 individual in-depth interviews conducted by telephone in 2018.Main findings: The analysed organizations implemented mainly social, but also ecological projects. By the implementation of projects, they cooperated mainly with NGO-partners, but only if it was necessary (e.g. if the NGO had more knowledge and experience in a specific field). Most of the projects were based on the active participation of employees in the form of volunteering; such projects had the most positive effects for the project’s goals, but also for the employees and the company. Hence, companies willingly motivated employees to participate in such projects not only by informational and organizational support, but also through various methods of distinguishing employees (e.g. volunteering gala, cup of coffee with the CEO). Companies see considerable benefits in such projects for themselves and for the staff. The perceived disadvantages are few, and in any case they can be minimized and are fully discounted by the potential benefits.

The topic dealt with in the paper is very timely and has assumed major importance from the viewpoint of development of research into economies based on sustainable development and application of research findings in specific solutions in the economy. The paper postulates that innovation is a fundamental and necessary instrument for implementing sustainable development throughout the whole economy. In order to confirm the thesis, first the paper attempts to identify the role of innovation in various areas of the economy. Secondly, it identifies the sources of innovation and areas of the economy which most require new innovative solutions. The study is based on literature, both domestic and foreign. The author analyses theoretical and empirical publications available on the market. Older publications turned out to be necessary and helpful in describing the evolution of the approach to sustainable development of the economy from a historical point of view. Newer works provide a basis for the compilation of a vast majority of the paper. The paper is a preliminary step in a more detailed research into various aspects of an economy based on sustainable development.

The importance of transport for sustainable development has become significant at the UN conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro as early as 1992. In the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which contains a total of 17 sustainability goals, sustainable transport has been anchored as a cross-cutting theme. In particular, emissions associated with transport are a problem for the sustainable development goals and have to be reduced. The objective of this paper is to analyze transport-related indicators in relation to sustainable development in the period from 2005 to 2016 at the national level. The method of secondary analysis is used. The results demonstrate only one indicator corresponding to the goal of sustainable development. However, two indicators do not correspond to a sustainable development in the considered period. Thus, appropriate measures have become necessary for these particular facts promoting a sustainable development.

Rodzi to jednak istotne problemy związane właśnie z mierzeniem zrównoważenia rozwoju i porównywaniem wyników badań.
The concept of sustainable development has been known for decades and is increasingly the subject of research from various disciplines, including economics. This process is accompanied by the development in the field of research methodology and ways to measure the sustainability of the various facets of this concept (environmental, economic and social). But this raises significant problems of measuring the sustainable development and comparison of research results. It should be emphasized that the problems relate to many aspects of the concept, as well as to measurement issues. The principal difficulty concerns the concept definition, in particular conclusion whether sustainable development should be understood as a state or as a process. A common problem is the lack of a specific and clearly defined benchmark, especially when the development of many countries is compared. Serious difficulties provides non-unanimity among researchers as to the weight of each facet of the concept of sustainable development and the fact that some of the goals under the various facets are mutually exclusive. Furthermore, it appears that the importance of the various facets is largely determined by the overall level of civilization progress of a country and an orientation of economic policy priorities. Article defines the most important challenges of sustainable development measurment, on the example of the selected indicators.

Consumerism of the XXI century consists in the fact that people consume material goods and services that are not supported by actual needs. It is an element of “material” side of thinking, actions of managers, entrepreneurs, which contributed to the threat of global biosphere and the survival of humanity. Excessive consumption generates waste of goods, natural resources and human labor. Additionally there is overproduction and environmental degradation. This results in the need for the development of sustainable consumption and an impact of consumers in shaping the behavior of entrepreneurs in the context of sustainable development. The aim of the author is to show the disparities that have emerged between the sustainable consumer and traditional one and to identify what influences consumerism. The object of the research is a modern consumer − a recipient of goods and services that are offered by companies on the market. This article is a result of a thorough library query clarifying the issue of today’s consumers and their market behavior

Opis:
For many years businesspeople and scientists alike have been involved in a discussion concerning sustainable development, which makes it possible to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own ones. The idea of sustainable development should be implemented at all levels of the economy, including enterprises. According to this concept, considered in a macro scale, sources of modern enterprises’ success are sought in long-term sustainable development, which is realised through economical, ecological and social aspects of their operations. The popularity of this concept has led to a change of ways in which European economies and businesses, which currently face the necessity to reconfigure their strategies including marketing influence on the market, operate. A new concept of sustainable marketing has emerged1. It is closely related to the concept of sustainable development, and in this context, in the micro scale it affects economic development. A new approach to how company’s offerings are created, what are the rules of governing cooperation between suppliers and consumers, how various marketing functions are implemented as well as the analysis and mitigation of adverse influence of these activities on social and ecological environment provide a firm basis for combining the concept of sustainable development and marketing and also changing the negative way of perceiving marketing. On the basis of the review of the management and marketing literature one may conclude that the research which has so far been conducted on sustainable marketing activities is fragmentary and refers to chosen aspects of marketing, i.e. sustainable consumption, ethical aspects of marketing activities and corporate social activities. The research run in macro perspective indicates positive influence of sustainable marketing on the country’s economy. However, it is still very rare. The literature also lacks a comprehensive presentation of the problem. The aim of the paper is to explain the concept of sustainable marketing and to indicate the need for a broader approach, both from micro and macro perspective, when analysing contemporary issues in marketing. The first part of the paper focuses on the essence of modern enterprises.
In this article I present a proposition that around the conception of sustainable development, which cannot be possible to realize without radical changes of the social structure and of the style of the economic thinking, an appropriate ideology and a mythology are increasing. Many myths regarding the sustainable development on which mass are being fed appeared. In fact, the mythology of the sustainable development is an instrument of the light of financial and political elites for ruling the world, for preserving the economy based on the neoclassical economy and on the ideology of the consumerism.

A large number of stakeholders are demanding more education for sustainable development (ESD) at Swedish universities, among them students who are expecting to find ESD in their courses. The aim of the article is to present a model for how to develop a course to include ESD when no updated textbooks are yet available and Bloom’s taxonomy is used for demonstrating the high level of learning that can be achieved without any syllabus changes. The setting for the case study and model development was a course in service marketing with a diverse group of students in terms of their background and education, at Umeå School of Business, Economics, and Statistics at Umeå University in Sweden. The course took place in the middle of the education program. Techniques such as lectures, guest lectures, assignments based on the theoretical textbook content, and a term paper were used to incorporate ESD into the course in order to accomplish possibilities for generic use. A challenge in designing ESD was the lack of knowledge about the students’ initial understanding of sustainability. The model was designed to take this into account. The design of assignments showed clear possibilities of achieving high levels of learning in terms of Bloom’s taxonomy, including analysis, synthesis and evaluation. The model is also an endeavor to encourage university teachers to introduce elements of ESD in their usual courses.

Axiological aspects of management in evolution of sustainable development The effectiveness of management is determined by axiological principles in each type of organization. Within this field a priority category is ethical value system. The shortages in ethics axiology influence on the pace of sustainable development implementation and pave trajectories in evolution of this problematic. This results also from the scale of scientific interest what was not a subject for in-depth bibliometric analysis till now. The aim of this paper is presentation of own research results on the sustainable development evolution featured by the axiological aspects of management in the bibliometric approach. For the research purposes there have been selected two principal for effective management value systems, i.e. ethical (which includes: liberty, freedom/dignity, responsibility, freedom of conscience, respect, tolerance, charity, right of dissidence, right of indifference, honesty) and system of basic values (which includes: life, health, survival, happiness, luck, confidence, well-being/wellbeing/life satisfaction).

Education for balanced development should be one of the important instruments of transition from stable production models and consumption, formation by the population of a new system of values conforming to the moderation culture and balanced development principles as a whole. Methods: SWOT-analisis, GAP-analisis, statistical, analytical. Results. Education development is to provide for the formation of ecologically responsible lifelong behaviour, formation of an integral (holistic), interdisciplinary approach in learning and knowing necessary for solving current global problems and advancement to the balanced, ecologically safe and economically stable future.

On another Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2012, "The Future We Want" statement has been adopted, expressing the desire to renew the commitment to the SD and promoting the idea of sustainable future on the economic, social and environmental level. The content of this document indicates the domination of declarations and assurances over specific commitments. The most important, however, is to consistently take action in favor of SD, despite the scale of the challenges faced by the modern world, being much greater than means that respective entities are willing to spend to deal with global problems. In this case, we should hope that the results of the last Earth Summit will prove to be a good starting point for the formulation of subsequent SD objectives. Their accurate identification and systematic implementation will ensure sustainable development of the word economy.

Opis:
In the 80-ties, the issue of creating accessible education strategy was widely analyzed. The aim was to allow society to become more aware of the sustainable development. It was established, that: '(...) there exists a need for a better understanding of the resources on which human life is dependable. If we would like the people to change their way of thinking and accept the need to give a higher priority to the environmental issues, we have to start the education at a school level'. Sustainable development is part of every single sphere of our everyday life. The same can be said for skyscrapers or electric energy. These issues are part of designer's professional workshop. Hence - introduced at the design level, will also accepted as a standard. This means that the effects of designer's works can be used as one of the medias implementing environmental policies. Promotion of a scope of knowledge concerning preservation of natural resources means that both small local groups and whole societies have to accept uniform values. This aim can be reached through reorientation of the formal education system and mutual aims

Tourism, as one of the biggest and fastest growing industries in the world, has an enormous impact on the achievements of the Europe 2020 growth strategy. The main factor influencing its effectiveness, based on achievement of strategy indicators, is tourist infrastructure, which is understood as hotel and restaurant facilities used by tourists coming to a particular area to meet their needs associated with passive and active tourism. To achieve the highest effectiveness in this regard, the European Union has established the scheme of Ecolabel standards, implemented in individual countries through independent certification, compliance with which means that the strategy’s assumptions can be effectively implemented. According to experts, managing a facility in compliance with Ecolabel standards today is an example of innovative hotel management. In addition to the benefits resulting from taking care of the environment, the certification also allows for a reduction of the operating costs of a facility. This paper aims at verifying - through an econometric model – research hypotheses related to the reduction in operating costs of a facility that complies with the certification standards.

The aim of the chapter is to demonstrate the impact of the ecotourism network „Between Bug and Narew” on the sustainable development of the Ostrów poviat in Mazovia. This influence was demonstrated by presenting the implemented activities for socio-economic development, which the author identified by analyzing the activities of network members. The chapter presents projectsthat fit into the concept of sustainable development of both the network leader and those who seem to be less identified with the network, but operate within its framework. The institution will also be presented, which, inspired by the forms of activity of the network members, joined the activities for the sustainable development of the poviat. At the same time, pro-development activities of network members may go beyond the poviat's area, as was also written about.

Methodology: Using the comparative analysis the most frequent mentioned forms of alternative finance have been assessed. The analysis took into account both the assumptions and the basic goals of sustainable development. Results: The conducted analysis show that despite many features that indicate the inclusion of alternative finance in philosophy of sustainable development, the implementation of the basic assumptions and goals are arbitrary. Many of the alternative forms do almost realized nothing.Originality/Value: An juxtaposition of sources of financing with the concept of sustainable development is usually carried out when analyzing the funding opportunities for relevant initiatives. However, in this case, the assessment is concentrating on the sources of financing and implementation by them of the adopted sustainability assumptions and goals.

The creation of sustainable science was inspired by a conception of sustainable development which tends towards achieving not only economical but also ecological and social goals. The enterprises with such goals are called sustainable enterprises. Their activity is determined by sustainable management which also includes human resource management. The human resources play the most important role in the process of transformation of the enterprises into sustainable organizations. Sustainable personnel, which consists of highly qualified employees who know and realize the principles of sustainable development, is the most valuable part of the staff. It includes the managers who point out the directions of enterprise activity as well as common employees who realize their decisions on the work places. Manufacturing of safe and healthy products and services in the processes of clear production is the main idea of the personnel activity. In the face of increasing ecological and social problems, sustainable personnel is particularly predestined to lead the business effectively to the path of long-term equilibrium of intergenerational needs.

The aim of the article is to present the essence of sustainable human resource management and attempt to answer the question of whether enterprises actually use the concept of the sustainable management of human resources in business management to achieve sustainable development. This is why the following research question was chosen for the study: “Is the concept of sustainable human resource management important in achieving sustainable development of an enterprise?” Verification of the research question and the realisation of the stated goal were made on the basis of a critical analysis of the source literature and a case study. In striving to achieve the research goal, the first part of the article presents the essence of sustainable human resource management; the second part presents a case study. This paper concludes with the applications in which the research question was confirmed. Enterprises choose a strategy for human resource management, depending on the following: the situation in the labour market, the economic situation, legal regulations, demographics, changes in technology in a given enterprise, the activities of both the employers’ and employees’ organisations, as well as self-governing bodies, employment agencies or personnel consulting firms and the capital owned by the organisation. The results of this study have shown that enterprises actually use the concept of the sustainable management of human resources in business management to achieve sustainable development.

Research background: The idea of sustainable development, in the face of the challenges encountered by contemporary society, is gaining increasing popularity. Currently, it recognizes the substantial role that companies play in its successful implementation. Initiatives in the field of sustainable development may be undertaken by companies independently as part of their own activities, or together with entities forming the supply chain as an element of sustainable supply chain management. Purpose of the article: Identification of groups of companies that are characterised by a different approach to cooperation in the field of sustainable development in the supply chain. Methods: The quantitative research was conducted in September 2020 with the use of the CATI (Computer-Assisted Telephone Interview) technique and a standardised survey questionnaire. A total of 500 randomly selected companies located in Poland participated in this study. The respondents were representatives of top management of the companies. In order to identify various groups of companies, a cluster analysis was performed using the k-means method in SPSS. Findings & value added: Based on the literature analysis, 3 areas of sustainable development have been identified, in which companies can become involved ? green design, sustainable operations, and reverse logistics & waste management. For each of the 3 areas, 3 clusters of companies were identified: companies that are not involved in sustainable development at all (1), companies that carry out most of the sustainable development initiatives independently (2), companies that carry out most of the sustainable development initiatives jointly with supply chain partners (3). The article also shows that the companies in different cluster differ in terms of perceived economic benefits achieved thanks to the implementation of sustainable development initiatives. This may suggest the need to develop separate sustainability solutions for such groups of companies in the future.

Opis:
Many documents produced by the EU, including the Europe 2020 Strategy, advocate the assumption that the European Union member states will strive to achieve sustainable development, which therefore needs to be measured with comparable parameters. The research objective was to evaluate sustainable growth indicators in Poland against the background of the same indicators in the European Union, and to ‘estimate’ chances to achieve the objectives set in the Europe 2020 Strategy. Two hypotheses were put forward in the study: a large number of indicators analysed by the Main Statistical Office in Poland allows forecasting the achievement of Poland’s objectives adopted in the Strategy; the most difficult to achieve will be the goal of financing research and development. In Poland, not all the changes were beneficial. The EU as a whole has the chance to approximate to the set value of the indicators. Both hypotheses were verified.
Najtrudniejszy do osiągnięcia będzie cel finansowania badań i rozwoju.

The main purpose of this paper is to show a statistical evaluation of the sustainable development issues at the transport enterprises level. Initial considerations are devoted to the discussion of theoretical issues related to sustainable development businesses. The main part of the article is devoted to the statistical analysis of the sustainable development of Polish transport companies. The results of the study made it possible to assess that the sustainable development of transport companies in 2009-2015 takes place. This development is more rapid compared to the average development of the entire enterprise sector. The average level of the indicator of sustainable development of transport enterprises in the whole analysed period it amounted to 0.89. At the same time, it should be noted that economic development is accompanied by improvement of conditions and quality of work and reduction of negative impact on natural resources.

Opis:
Post-war anti-social evolution of housing policy becomes an important factor in the post-2008 deepening structural crisis of capitalism and in the end of the market paradigm of economic growth. This speaks for the analysis of social housing policy as a basis for re-evaluation of the paradigm of civilizational development towards better realization of the concept of sustainable development. Shared overreaching goals of sustainable development are best shown through the concept of infrastructure inhabited settlement. In this approach lie methodological possibilities of filling sustainable development with commonly understood social content.

Aim: Humankind finds itself in a dire situation. Solutions have been put forth, but none has made a significant impact on carbon release or resources depletion.  I add my proposal, the literary device of the dictator, to those who feel there is some possible remedy for our predicament. Design / Research methods: This paper is part of a larger project which uses micro- and macro-sociology and cliodynamics, archaeology, evolutionary biology, and dissipative systems theory to describe both our global system, and its implications for our species.   I briefly critique three other approaches regarding their likelihood of success. Conclusions / findings: The self-organized dissipative system drives population, population density, and the exploitation and depletion of natural resources.  The system is the interface between humans and the environment.   It is unlikely any approach which is not 1. dramatic, 2. inclusive, and 3. determinedly focused on disarming the global system will prevent the complete depletion of the natural world, and the continued mass extinction. Originality / value of the article:  The paper challenges commonly held assumptions regarding the system and human participation in it.  The paper should be of interest to anyone concerned about humankind.  Implications of the research (if applicable): The paper has strong implications for policy.  It describes how perpetuating ideas like “sustainable growth” can only ensure the collapse of the global system, and perhaps the collapse of the natural systems as well.  The consequence of applying the research would be desperate, frighteningly objective, but will allow, perhaps, Homo to continue.    Limitations of the research  (if applicable): Future research could focus on re-interpreting data gathered by previous paradigms.  Cliodynamics provides insight into the future by considering complex relationships.  The limitations to the implications of the research lie in the fact that it is difficult for some to distinguish between “humankind” and the system.

Sustainable development is an very important idea nowadays and it influences on many factors. It is very important to focus on the goals of sustainable development and implement them both in industry and in everyday life. The aim of the article is to analyse the impact of implementing an automatic conveyor belt transport system between the stands of an exemplary assembly line on sustainable development in economic and environmental terms. The analyzed production process consists of one production line with six assembly stations. The efficiency of individual design solutions and electricity consumption were adopted as the evaluation criteria. To compare the two processes, a simulation analysis was performed in the Plant Simulation program. First chapter is the introduction to the article. The second chapter describes the current applications of simulation tests. The third chapter describes the production system that is improved by adding conveyors. The next chapter compares the processes with and without the use of conveyors and presents how much energy must be used additionally by imple-menting conveyor belts, but also what energy savings can be obtained by installing additional stop sensors. The fifth chapter presents the conclusions: the conducted research allowed concluding that the implementation of conveyor belts affects a higher number of finished products at the same time as the transport of components is manual. However, the best solution is to use conveyors with stop sensors, and the power consumption is then low and more profitable for the enterprise.

This review of ecophilosophical topics discussed in Problems of Sustainable Development is limited to published articles and reviews. In the first part of the paper, criteria of the selection of philosophical papers from all the papers published are presented. Also main problematic groups are distinguished. In the second part, the results of the survey are discussed. My conclusion is that in last two years (2009 and 2010) tendency of decreasing the number of philosophical papers become visible. In the first two year’s issues there was 48% of such publica-tions, in last two year’s issues only 21%.

There is a need to shape not only the awareness of sustainable development, but also social capital conducive to coordinated cooperation. This article is an attempt to show the importance of social capital for sustainable development. It also raises issues of social awareness and the role of managers in building a responsible society and in spreading the new idea of development.

Opis:
Aim: Questionnaire research can be used as a teaching instrument and to measure the impacts of education for sustainable development. This paper presents a case study of a teaching intervention regarding students’ perception of operations and (supply) management fragilities, such as dependency on few customers or suppliers; difficult to find employees; and low probability, high impact events for business sustainability. The teaching intervention focused on side effects of innovations, leading to vulnerabilities that can threaten the existence of an enterprise. This research was carried out in the context of the capacity for creating an Early Warning System for small probability, high impact events. The following issues are addressed in the paper: 1). The impact of the teaching intervention on students’ perceptions; 2). Differences in perception between non-attending (N = 128) and attending students (pre-test N = 139; post-test N = 119). Design / Research methods: This paper discusses whether teaching interventions can influence the awareness of fragility issues as well as low probability, high impact events. The case-study is based on an experiment in a marketing course for management students of a large private business school in Wrocław (Poland) in April–May 2019. Before start of classes students filled out a questionnaire (Attending Students). A teaching intervention slide was used in every lecture. At the end of the course, all students (also the students absent during the first classes) filled out the repeat questionnaire. Statistical analysis was carried out whether there were differences between Attending Students filling out both questionnaires, and students only filling out the repeat questionnaire (Non Attending Students). Conclusions / findings: The findings show that students struggle to grasp the complexities and uncertainties surrounding sustainability and fragility issues in relation to the business context. The teaching interventions had limited impact on the ability of students to engage in these issues, albeit significant differences between attending and non-attending students were observed. A limitation of the results is that this study only concerned a case study of a specific group of students. An implication requiring deeper research is that while teachers can do in-depth exercises and provide lectures, a part of the students, being less motivated to obtain knowledge, is unlikely to grasp sustainability issues, when not included in assignments, examination preparation, or compulsory rather than elective courses. This paper presents the attempt of sustainable development assessment for one of the poorest regions of the European Union (EU), Lublin Voivodeship in Poland, during its first decade in the EU, i.e. 2004-2013. Our analyses, performed for all pillars of sustainability: social, economic and environmental-technical, were based on sustainable development indicators (SDIs). The set of 21 sustainable development indicators, based on freely available statistical data, was proposed in this paper. The SDIs for Lublin Voivodeship were compared to values for Poland and the European Union. The special attention was put to assessment of sustainable development diversification between urbanized and rural areas of Poland and Lublin province. Our analyses showed than both, Poland and Lublin Voivodeship, clearly developed during the last decade but their sustainable development is still endangered and slowed down by several causes. Moreover, the value of most tested sustainability indicators was significantly below the European mean.

The axiology of sustainable development has been addressed in many works, taking a wide variety of approaches. Differences concern the interpretation of sustainable development, the set of values considered and methods of constructing such a set. The present paper aims to systematize discussion concerning the axiology of sustainable development, by developing a typology. Two types of axiology are distinguished: the holistic-altruistic type and the individualistic-egoistic type. The second of these is depicted in categories of the alienation of the idea of sustainable development in the process of its exteriorization.
Aksjologia rozwoju zrównoważonego to temat podejmowany w wielu pracach, przyjmujących jednak różne założenia. Różnice odnoszą się do interpretacji pojęcia rozwoju zrównoważonego, zbioru rozważanych wartości i metodyki konstruowania takiego zbioru. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest usystematyzowanie dyskusji dotyczącej aksjologii rozwoju zrównoważonego poprzez dokonanie jego typologizacji. Wyróżniono dwa typy aksjologii: holistyczno-altruistyczna i indywidualistyczno-egoistyczna. Drugą z nich przedstawiono w kategoriach alienacji idei zrównoważonego rozwoju w procesie jej eksterioryzacji.

The aim of sustainable development is to take into an account such an economic development, which simultaneously addresses into the problem of improving the environment in strategies which will lead to the higher standard of life. Hence the question of intergenerational justice,in which it is essential that future generations have an equal, in relation to the contemporary, access to natural resources and equal opportunities for the development of the life standard. However, implementation of such sustainable development might be limited by the negative phenomena of the social support. These are e.g. cyberbullying and disability. Cyberbullying is a way of force with the use of mass-media - primarily the Internet and mobile phones. Disability is an another social phenomenon having negative implications for the implementation of sustainable development. It is true that in Poland the number of people with disabilities is consistently declining, but it still applies to thousands of people with reduced efficiency of operations in numerous areas of life, and therefore requires a special approach in everyday life and in education and the labor market.

This article presents the concept of sustainable development that might be defined as a tool leading to not only a favorable economic growth, but also the elimination of disproportions within a society in the long run. In this context, the social and economic inclusion of all existing social groups, as well as maintaining safety in terms of environmental protection seem to be important. Such practices, known as an inclusive growth, are frequently practiced by public and private institutions. In this publication, the special focus is put on the importance of finance in the concept of sustainable development. The authors try to prove the hypothesis that it is the financial system (financial institutions, financial markets and avoidable regulations) that plays a main role in the realization of goals of sustainable development.

Sustainable development is considered to be one of the most important issues for the future, which is also mirrored in the growing interest in sustainable development in higher education. The change project reported in this article is an example of the efforts made to incorporate sustainability in higher education. The aim of the change project is twofold: the first one is to revise the syllabuses, reference literature, materials, and examinations for courses in Public Administration, so that every course in some way addresses sustainable development. By making sustainable development an integral part of all teaching, the change project highlights how different aspects of sustainability issues are relevant in different contexts. There are three reasons why sustainable development should be explicitly present in all teaching: education for sustainability is important to the university; sustainability is relevant especially for students in Public Administration; and to get all students engaged, education for sustainability requires a pedagogical framework. The second aim of the change project is to lay out the underlying pedagogical framework, which is based on principles found in pedagogical, psychological, and organizational theories. In this successive, integrative approach, the repeated occurrence of sustainability themes in many courses is considered to be a better option than having a single thematic course. In the first phase of the project, during the academic year 2019-2020, three courses were revised to include aspects of sustainability in relation to concepts central to the course.

Opis:
Striving for sustainable development of society and economy is a concept that for decades has been the subject of scientific inquiry. Additionally, the sustainable development concept is based on three main and overlapping pillars (social, economic and environmental). Maintaining balance between them is only way to achieve at least acceptable effects of sustainable development. Analyses in this field have focused on identification of boosters and inhibitors of sustainable development. Taking into consideration this context in our paper, the analyses were devoted to identifying whether a smaller gender gap level (e.g. incentives, political engagement, and education) aligns with higher results in obtaining sustainable development goals. Three hypotheses were formulated that state that mitigating the gender gap supports the social, economic and environmental pillars of sustainable development. Indeed, the results of our study show that in particular, a smaller gender gap related to educational attainment and political empowerment of females is connected positively with higher levels of sustainable development of the three pillars in specific countries. The final conclusion is that diminishment of inequality between females and males supports harmonious and sustainable development of societies in social, economic and environmental dimensions.

The purpose of this article is an attempt to prove that it is very unlikely that the development gap between Poland and Norway will be significantly reduced in the coming years. This thesis has been verified by identifying position of both countries in the field of sustainable development - to be more precise: in the context of the ten dimensions of development (SDI theme) included in the EU Sustainable Development Strategy (socioeconomic development, sustainable consumption and production, social inclusion, demographic changes, public health, climate change and energy, sustainable transport, natural resources, global partnership, good governance). As a result the distance between Norway and Poland in the field of sustainable development has been indicated. The study was based on information obtained from the database of Eurostat and the OECD. Generally speaking the sustainable development indicators were presented in relation to the 2004 and 2013 years.

This article presents a preliminary System Dynamics model developed to analyze the sustainability of a natural reserve in Mexico: the Tamiahua Wetlands. Wetlands are often referred to as nature’s kidneys because they filter contaminants from water. In spite of their importance, wetlands are endangered areas around the world. In order to build the model we take into account the Fishbanks model developed by Meadows (2004) as a starting point. Then, the model considers variables related to changes in total and economically active populations, and contaminants in water. The preliminary model presented in this study implies that fishing activity in the Tamiahua Wetlands, together with contaminants from human activity, have the potential to damage the diversity of species in the ecosystem, endangering its sustainability. Continued work on the model is intended to explore appropriate ways of preserving Tamiahua, providing inhabitants with economic activities that promote the sustainability of the region.

The main branch of traditional economics used to focus on economic and social development, and on increasing profits. This led to disregard for the scantiness of natural resources and their renewal. This article looks at the criticism of traditional economic theory by the proponents of the economics of sustainable development, most notable amongst them being the theoretician, Holger Rogall. The notion and crucial principles of the economics of sustainable development are also discussed. The proposed new paradigm in economics is strong sustainability. The theory put forward is strictly related to the idea of sustainable development and the rules of inter- and intragenerational justice and responsibility in the meaning of environmental ethics.

The aim of the article is to assess the possibilities and ways to implement the idea of sustainable development in a market economy. Economic and social development encounters limitations due to weaknesses and market failures. The concept of sustainable development indicates mainly development goals. Their achievement, however, requires paying attention to the conditions and methods of operation of the entities. Sustainable development will take place under market economy conditions. From the point of view of the neoclassical economics, the basic direction of activities should be creating conditions for the market implementation of sustainable development goals. Institutional economics indicates the need to build a system of norms and values that are appropriate to the idea of sustainable development. Only their dissemination creates conditions for the creation of formal institutions which are the part of the market system. However, it is advisable to combine these methods. The implementation of sustainable development in the management of environmental resources and environmental protection requires increasing the scope of defining property rights and assigning them to specific entities. On this basis, one can create the market mechanisms and expand the scope of market instruments for an environmental protection. Such solutions are consistent with the logic of the market economy and will be understandable as well as acceptable to entities.

Population growth and related progress of civilization and economy, growing consumption, and at the same time economic disparity, and development between countries lead to a significant violation of the natural environment, adverse and often irreversible changes occurring therein. Nowadays demographic threats are one of the main sources of threats for the environment. Though in some countries we can observe the tendency of downward trend in the number of births (for example in Europe), in other countries especially in Africa and Asia the population growth is significant (in comparison to 1960 the population in Africa increased four times to 2010, and 2,5 times in Asia). The extending lifespan and lower infant mortality because of medicine development, changes of lifestyle, nutrition, and improved living conditions are the main factors of population growth in recent decades. The population growth leads to increased unbalanced consumption and increased production. The studies show that we get close to a dangerous boarder for example for biosphere based on indicator EF2.0 (ecological footprint) which now is 21.9 hectares per person, while the accepted ecological limit capacity for the Earth is 15.7 hectares per person. Rapidly progressive population growth on the Earth and changes under its influence can lead to global break of ecosphere. In a perspective avoiding excessive population growth can be one of strategies for sustainable development. Therefore different population growth in different parts of the world leads to specified environmental problems. For example in Africa it will lead to ground degradation and the decrease of food production. In Europe we have to cope with large energy consumption and other resources (for example water), large amount of industrial and municipal waste, poor biological variety and increased level of greenhouse gases. We have to notice that developing anthropopressure leads to new types of environmental threats so-called global ecological problems, problems which have no limits. Human population has two choices for future growth. The first ignoring increasing contamination which will consequently lead to “automatic recovery” that means coming of hunger, epidemics and population reduction in the world. The second choice assumes the need to control the population number and prevent when too high population number threatens to keep the environment in good condition. The main aim of this work is to show the meaning, influence of demographic factor on changes in natural environment. In the article the author points out that there are relations between population growth and changes occurring in the environment, describing respectively causes and projections of population growth, regional environmental problems and global environmental problems. This work is theoretical. The sources which are used are theoretical work included in literature concerning the discussed problem and public statistical data.

This article presents a pilot study on the local community’s social perception regarding coal mines in Upper Silesia. The research was performed in connection with the smog, which was persistent and harmful to residents during the winter months of 2016. The researchers put forward to the local community the following two survey questions: 1. Is the image of coal mines in the eyes of the local community positive or negative? 2. Are coal mines socially responsible and is coal a good energy source? The aim of this article is to indicate the relationship of the local community to the presence of hard coal mines in the neighbourhood and their social role. Also, this work looks to identify the nuisances perceived by the inhabitants of the examined region about mining enterprises and whether these burdens should result in abandonment of hard coal mining. Pilot studies were conducted with the use of a diagnostic survey. The study was carried out in January 2017 on a sample of 267 people, comprising Silesian University of Technology students residing in Upper Silesia. An environmental survey technique was used. The researchers hypothesise that the image of mining and coal as a fuel for the local community is negative and the mines are not socially responsible enterprises. This research shows that the operation of mines is essential for society and its stability as it affects economic, social and energy safety. A large proportion of the respondents defined the image of mining as positive (108 people), but 76 people indicated that the image was rather negative. Most respondents pointed to the benefits of the mine’s operation. Opinions on social responsibility were divided, and most respondents failed to provide concrete examples of social engagement, so the first hypothesis was partly confirmed. Although the respondents pointed to various nuisances resulting from the mining companies operating in their environment, they also recognised significant social aspects related to employability and access to relatively cheap fuel. However, they do not realise the social involvement of mines, which is one of the conditions of sustainable development. Pilot studies allowed for the initial identification of problems and verification of the research tool utilised in this study.

The current market environment is affected by several fundamental changes. A large number of these affect manufacturing companies the most. They are forced to continuously reduce their costs, improve the quality of service to their customers and adapt to a highly competitive environment. However, environmental requirements for production processes have become increasingly important in recent years. These are underpinned by legislative changes that put enormous pressure on manufacturers. Often, environmental requirements can also determine the economic success of a manufacturer. The areas that have a significant environmental impact include metallurgical technologies. These are currently predominantly based on the use of coke, which is produced from high-quality hard coal. The mining of raw materials also has significant environmental impacts. The article deals with analysing downstream production processes regarding their environmental impact. These are the areas of mining, ore processing and iron and steel production. These areas can be seen as downstream production stages. Iron ore processing and iron and steel production often occur within a single production organisation. Therefore, a possible overall optimisation in handling environmental impacts and treating pollutants can be assumed. The secondary objective of the paper is to analytically assess the potential reuse of the produced waste in production processes. The article is based on the research results carried out in a selected metallurgical enterprise in the Czech Republic.

The paper offers an interpretation of frugality as a classic virtue and concentrates on its conflict with widely promoted postulate to consume as much as possible. It is argued that frugality is not a superfluous and anachronistic norm. On the contrary, frugality is a richly relevant standard and important component of sustainable development.

Road schemes are linear in nature, which makes the investment process exceptionally difficult and complex, requiring the involvement of large human potential, time-consuming and very expensive. One road investment is subject to numerous consultations, requires many different studies, collecting a huge amount of opinions as well as approvals and obtaining a number of decisions. Currently without including in the project some solutions that would both guarantee minimal influence of the investment on the environment and ensure the efficiency of local ecosystems it is impossible to obtain the positive decision concerning the condition of the environment, which would allow the realisation of the project. An engineer of the 21st century apart from providing the right construction of a given structure, which ensures that this structure is secure, functional, resistant and has architectural merit, must also take into consideration local environmental conditions. The engineer has to ensure that the environment may function without any obstacles and the species may migrate without restraint. To do this, an engineer needs to have clear guidelines concerning both the project and its realisation. The article contains the general form of these guidelines.

Opis:
Objective – to show the specificity and scope of reporting on sustainable development using the GRI Standards. This is currently a significant issue because of the transparency which becomes an important paradigm for conducting business. This means that company’s stakeholders are interested not only in the undertaken or declared actions for sustainable development, but also in the access to reliable and comparable information related thereto. In this perspective, GRI Standards play a significant role. Research methodology – the classical methods of research are used in this paper, such as: the study of the subject-related literature and the analysis of the content of non-financial reports published by selected Polish and foreign companies, which have been prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards. Result – the carried out studies have pointed at the diversified level of disclosures in the field of sustainable development, which is visible when comparisons are made between countries and within each country. They also allow one to notice the low level of the use of the GRI indicators related to Sustainable Development Goals in the reports prepared by Polish companies covered by the survey. Originality/value – the paper has cognitive value with regards to the scope and the quality of disclosures concerning actions being taken by companies in the field of sustainable development as well as the role that GRI Standards can play in this process.

The paper reviews the concept of sustainable agriculture, indicating its various dimensions. The similarities between sustainable development and sustainable agriculture are demonstrated. The fundamental objective of the paper is to conceptualize sustainable agriculture in Poland. The paper raises several essential issues concerning the lack of such studies in the past and proposes research objectives. Firstly, to present the main issues of sustainable agriculture and to show the possibilities of implementing the idea of sustain able development, an evaluation through the prism of change directions and dynamics, as well as regional differentiation of Polish agriculture, was necessary. Secondly, to present the situation in the economic sus tainability of Polish agriculture in the period 2000-2010, the following research methods were employed: monographic and descriptive methods, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction. Findings of foreign scientists were also used in the research. The analysis of the condition of agriculture considers the main changes that occurred between the years 2000-2010. These were presented on the basis of Main Statistical Office data from statistical yearbooks and reports of agricultural censuses results.
Zastosowano następujące metody badawcze: metody monograficzne i opisowe, analizy i syntezy, indukcji i dedukcji.

Every agribusiness company affects the natural environment, to a smaller or larger extent. There can be no choice between the environment and economic development, therefore the agribusiness companies must adjust their development to the possibilities that the environment offers. The aim of this study is to present ecological innovations in agribusiness companies and their reference to the idea of sustainable development. Survey research was carried out among 156 agribusiness companies from Kujawsko-pomorskie Province of Poland. The only companies participating in the research were those in which some ecological investments were implemented. The research showed that the agribusiness companies consider the policy of introducing ecological investments to be very important. The companies are trying to bring into their management the strategy of eco-innovations so that they can operate with a benefit for its consumers and the natural environment. The basic types of ecological investments in the surveyed agribusiness companies include: careful waste segregation, ecological production and limiting harmful gas emission. The ecological innovations stem from the principles of sustainable development, they support the introduction of sustainable solutions in the companies, they also allow for a more efficient use of natural resources and contribute to the limitation of actions harmful to the environment while maintaining the high level of innovativeness.

This paper emphasizes the role of universities in encouraging ecological initiatives for sustainable development. We characterized the origin of sustainability and its consistency with the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. Moreover, we present ecological education as the concept of lifelong learning in the spirit of respect for the natural world. The examples of pro-ecological higher education initiatives were described, such as Poznan School of Logistics (“EKO-LOG” programme), Jan Kochanowski University of Kielce and the University of Social and Medical Sciences in Warsaw (education of ethnic minorities), Andrzej Frycz-Modrzewski Krakow University and the University of Agriculture in Krakow (Friend of the National Park educational program) as well as the AGH University of Science and Technology (continuing education). It has been shown that schools and universities play a major role in environmental education not only for children, but also adults. It is worth mentioning that the potential and clout of universities should be continuously employed in the environmental movement.

It is built on philosophical, psychological, social and pedagogical concepts. This wide-ranging dialogue takes on a completely new form, addressing the goals of sustainable development. A balanced dialogue creates a network of connections and interactions between people, thus creating the principle of coexistence based on the process of awareness. As far as elementary education is concerned, it is a didactic method which affects the young generation, which sows its influence on a macro scale, ie society. The proposed method of balanced dialogue is an author's method that is in the process of experimental verification, therefore empirical observations are based on previous research findings. Sustainable dialogue as a tool for changing society is a real hope for our world, as I show in the article.

At the Polish level, environmental protection has been regulated in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, without mentioning animal rights. This matter is regulated in detail by the Act on the Protection of Animal Rights.De lege ferneda, we should consider greater guarantees related to compliance with the law and sanctions related to inhumane farming of livestock or inhuman killing.

Sustainable development in today's world is present in every sphere of human life, therefore one of the goals of education should be to introduce students to the global goals of sustainable development and their implementation from the youngest levels of education. By conducting three-year action research among students in grades 1-3, sustainable development manifests itself as an internal value related to human activity, his actions and attitude towards the problems of the world and society. The image of the present generation and the next generations of the Earth's inhabitants must take into account the quality of life of the human population as well as the fauna and flora. The awareness of the need to balance these spheres from an early age gives the opportunity to create a conscious and engaged society in the fight for our Mother Earth.

In the case of philosophical justifications of sustainable development it is important to work out epistemological standpoints, adequate to the problems considered in the areas of particular development concepts based on speculative, theoretical knowledge as well as on practical one related to activity and serving its purposes. Epistemology must correlate with the problems that are their material object as well as with goals and cognitive and practical tasks that they (concepts) have to deal with. The present article makes an attempt at presenting reflection on knowledge and cognition by indicating the epistemological basis of the concept of sustainable development. It will endeavor to draw attention to the need of shaping the attitude of the knowing subject, to facilitate adequate understanding of what we commonly address as sustainability and implementing the proposals of sustainable development and verification of the related sources of cognition.
Artykuł stanowi próbę ukazania rozważań nad wiedzą i poznaniem poprzez wskazanie epistemologicznych podstaw koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju. Celem jest natomiast zwrócenie uwagi na potrzebę ukształtowania właściwego nastawienia podmiotu poznającego, pozwalającego możliwie adekwatnie uchwycić to, co zwykliśmy nazywać zrównoważonym rozwojem, i jednocześnie wdrażającego postulaty zrównoważonego rozwoju, a ponadto weryfikacja związanych z tym źródeł poznania.

Opis:
W artykule omówione zostały wskaźniki obrazujące sytuację w zakresie realizacji celów zrównoważonego rozwoju, zarówno w Unii Europejskiej, jak i w Polsce.
EU Sustainable Development Strategy establishes regular measuring progress towards sustainable development implementation. Overview of the sustainable development indices’ trends in long-term does not encourage optimism. Discussion provided in the paper shows that neither Poland nor EU move fast enough towards sustainable development goals.

Opis:
The paper is about sustainable public procurement as a new global trend in the development of a sustainable economy. The main question raised is the following: how could sustainable public procurement be implemented in Russia? We aim to answer the question by presenting the findings of survey, covering public procurement practices of 51 contracting authorities and documentation analysis of 400 public tenders, and investigating Russian legislation. The conducted survey aims to identify the aspects of sustainable public procurement already used by public authorities in procuring practices in Russia. The analysis of Russian legislation allows to define in which sections of procurement documentation different aspects of sustainability could be included. This paper provides a unique survey of sustainable procurement practices across the Russian public sector. Research also shows the prerequisites of implementation of sustainable public procurement in Russia.

Nowadays the world is facing a serious problem related to climate change and its repercussion for human beings. At the same time, world societies are struggling with the consequences of the last economic crisis. These issues have not escaped the attention of the United Nations, and therefore in 2015 the organization adopted 17 goals to improve the social, economic and environmental situation. The Sustainable Development Goals are not the first priorities announced for the world. In 2000, the Millennium Development Goals were adopted. They dealt with important issues of the day, encouraging the global community to take necessary actions. This paper addresses two issues. Firstly, it describes the evolution of the range of adopted goals to improve the socio-economic situation of people, taking into consideration the relation with the concept of sustainable development. Secondly, it uses the indicators as the main instruments to assess the progress in achieving accepted aims

Opis:
The goals of sustainable development set priorities for a broad range of stakeholders, i.e. individuals, organisations, societies, and states. They translate into career management priorities, with a view to making careers sustainable. The article presents the preliminary results of the analysis of the concept and the range of meanings of a sustainable career. As a result of a critical analysis and the placement of this concept in the area of management and quality, the assumptions and the definition of a sustainable vocational career were formulated, indicating that it is a sequential arrangement of personal work and outof-work experience related to the performance of work that make it possible to retain physical and mental health and to match competences in a manner enabling productive and meaningful work over a long period.

Opis:
The interest in the concept of sustainable development is a form of a scientific response to the challenges of transforming economies, growing expectations of local communities and societies and environmental degradation. Despite numerous definitions of sustainable development, the literature lacks a widely recognised definition of an entity that operates in a sustainable way – a sustainable enterprise. The literature review identified two definition gaps: 1) the lack of defined boundaries within which a company must operate in order to be called sustainable, and 2) the lack of a definition of the relationship between the areas in which sustainability is assessed. The authors of the article propose a new definition of a sustainable enterprise. Moreover, they give examples of organisations that, although in a selected area they carry out sustainable activities, they cannot be called sustainable.

International trade and globalization are among the two most important prerequisites for the country’s economic development. The country’s active involvement in world trade leads to greater openness exacerbates many contradictions that are summarized in the principles of the economy, in particular the face trade-offs (between efficiency and equity). Despite the fact that these issues become accustomed to being considered in the socio-economic, the exhaustion of natural resources requires its implementation to the ecological dimension. There could be pointed several aspects of environmental dimension of international economics: implementation of borrowed outdated technologies and the attraction of investments by the availability of cheap labor; dependence on the mining and export of minerals and raw materials; filling the internal market with cheap and insufficient quality goods ctr. Thereby the participation in contemporary international economic relations needs to take into accounts also the environmental aspects and ecological factors for the effective development in the long-term perspective.
