Opis:
A new optimization method presented in this work – the Least m-Order Central Moments method, is a generalization of the Least Squares method. It allows fitting a geometric object into a set of points in such a way that the maximum shift between the object and the points after fitting is smaller than in the Least Squares method. This property can be very useful in some engineering tasks, e.g. in the realignment of a railway track or gantry rails. The theoretical properties of the proposed optimization method are analyzed. The computational problems are discussed. The appropriate computational techniques are proposed to overcome these problems. The detailed computational algorithm and formulas of iterative processes have been derived. The numerical tests are presented, in order to illustrate the operation of proposed techniques. The results have been analyzed, and the conclusions were then formulated.

Opis:
Quality control generally requires data of higher quality to quantify the error in any measured quantity. The following work shows that the Proszyhski Reliability Criterion (PRC) is fulfilled if the measurement variance is greater than its prediction function based on the remaining observations. The partial derivatives with respect to the parameters of the residuals' equations are taking the role of the observations within the system. Therefore the prediction variance can be measured. If the prediction function is bounded then a reliable observational system (i.e. each observation has fulfilled the PRC) can be achieved.

Opis:
A set of measuring system with use of laser technique and CCD converter connected to the computer presented in the study, carries out remote and automatic observation of deflection of carrier of rafter framing. Test measurements of simulated shifts of the prototype of photo-detection CCD receiver allowed initial definition of accuracy of the measurements of the situation of energetic middle of laser beam. From numerous measurements for the distance of 14 ma and vertical shifts within 35 mm, the maximal error equaled 0,04 mm and for 28 m it was 0,09 mm. Fluctuation effect of the situation of energetic middle of laser beam registered by measuring receiver in 10 seconds was also researched. Quickly changing variations of beam situation consisted in the range of 22,45 to 22,71 mm. Dispersion of vertical situation of laser spot did not exceed 0,26 mm. Registration and averaging of geometric middle of laser spot can be made with unrestricted time step.

This article investigates the integration of geodetic and geotechnical methods for monitoring the horizontal displacement of diaphragm walls. The results show that when the horizontal displacement is measured by the geotechnical method using an inclinometer sensor, the center point at the bottom of the guide pipe is usually chosen to be the origin to calculate displacements of the upper points. However, it is challenging to survey the bottom point for checking its stability directly. If this bottom point moves, the observation results will be incorrect. Thus, the guide pipe must be installed in the stable rock layer. But in the soft ground, this rock layer locates more deeply than the diaphragm walls, so the guide pipe cannot be laid out at the required location. Geodetic methods can directly observe the displacement of the center point on the top of the guide pipe with absolute displacement values at high accuracy. Because the displacements of observation points are determined at stable benchmarks, these values are considered the pipe's displacement. Thus, an integrated solution allows the center point on the top of the pipe to be the origin to calculate the displacements of different points located inside the diaphragm wall. Then, the calculated values are calibrated back to the inclinometer observed values to achieve highly reliable displacement, which reflects the moving of diaphragm walls. An experiment integrating the geodetic and geotechnical methods is conducted with an observation point at a depth of 20 meters at a construction site in Ho Chi Minh city. The deviations of the top point that are observed by the two methods are -4.37 millimeters and -3.69 millimeters on the X-axis and the Y-axis, respectively. The corrected observed results prove that the integrated solution has a good efficiency in monitoring the horizontal displacement of diaphragm walls. The bottom point observed by an inclinometer is unconfident enough to choose to be a reference point.

To carry out many surveying operations, one requires, apart from location determined in horizontal plane also elevation of selected points in a project. In the case of work realised over a large area, particularly if the object to be measured is of elongated shape, these tasks are performed in relation to a greater number of national network benchmarks. At that point control of benchmarks locations in relation to one another and determination of the most reliable reference frame for surveying tasks are required. The need to carry out such control will be proved in this paper on the example of historical changes of benchmark ordinates of vertical network in the city of Wroclaw.

In the paper the problem of lateral impact of weak soil layer on piles is discussed and analysed from the view point of measurements of deformations of structures founded on piles and of the prediction of its development in the future. Selected model test results are described and compared with numerical simulations. The design of geodetic deformation monitoring schemes requires decisions to be made regarding the optimal location, density, and accuracy of geodetic sensors and targets. All too often, however, the location of the instruments and accuracy of monitoring are decided upon without regard for the expected location and magnitude of the maximum deformations of the monitored object. This can lead to incorrect interpretations of the behavior of the investigated object. A more rigorous approach is to use deterministic (a-priori) modeling of expected displacements derived from the knowledge of the geometry of the object and its environment, causative factors (loads), properties of the material, and physical laws governing the stress-strain relationship. In order to demonstrate how deterministic modeling can be used to design a geodetic scheme for deformation monitoring, an open pit mine scenario was investigated. Finite element analysis was applied to the open pit mine to obtain a prediction model of deformations at various stages of the mine development.

The presented results of investigation of accuracy point out that the laser scanning technology may be applied for such measurements where the highest accuracy of coordinates determination is not required. Performed tests also proved that in the course of utilisation of the laser scanner measurements various factors, which influence the accuracy of obtained results, should be considered. Specific characteristics of the output product of laser scanning (i.e. the cloud of points) are also very important. Though high density of the cloud occurs, the possibility to improve interpretation capabilities through utilisation of the intensity image (or digital photographs) and high accuracy of determination of co-ordinates of an individual point within that cloud, the accuracy of identification of particular points and lines within that object is limited. This results in the necessity to change the measurement methodology and to focus on detection of surfaces and automatic identification of shapes, instead of identification of individual points. In such approach to determination of the object's shape, many points are used, what allows for better identification of the object and to decrease the influence of incidental errors. A separate issue, which influences the accuracy of measurements performed by means of a laser scanner, is the possibility to eliminate instrumental errors in post-processing. It has been stated that utilisation of corrections due to non-perpendicularity of axes and corrections for distance measurements allows to increase the accuracy of co-ordinates measurements by approximately 10 - 15 %.

Opis:
Before research, a graphical analysis of time series is important to carry out because the configuration of empirical points in a proper Cartesian coordinate system enables one to make a decision which class the researched trend function belongs to. When verifying the model it should be checked whether received values of structural parameters estimation are reasonable. The method of extrapolation of time series can be used to forecast only in case when the mechanism of development of the researched effect does not change in time considerably or in case if the mechanism of development of the researched effect is not known and we cannot recognize it. The forecast horizon can be dependent on inertia of researched variables. For variables with a big inertia the forecast horizon can be considerably longer. Longer forecast horizon corresponds with less probability of occurrence of the provided state and simultaneously certainty of the forecast is less. Another question is a stability of the model. It does not mean that the model will be stable after the period the model was estimated, i.e. it will be stable in future. Adaptive models are useful in case of lack of stability in the researched period. Forecast procedures based on those models assume that the effect intensification in time can be segmental, i.e. "smooth", only in some intervals of time. Such models are particularly important for short-term forecasts. Taking one of the following models into account depends on: - clear interpretation of model's parameters, - possibility of a simple estimation of the model's parameters, - the level of accuracy that the model describes the effect's development in time. It should be noticed that building a "good" model describing the given effect on the base of data from the past not always can be proper in future. To enlarge forecast certainty (especially for short time series) several forecasting methods should be used and their results should be compared.

The paper presents results of georadar positioning of a set of subsurface conduits, together with an assessment of efficiency of their detection. The measurements on test fields were performed with the RAMAC/GPR georadar, produced in Sweden by the Mala GeoScience Company. Numerous radargrams were properly processed with an optimal filtering sequence, aimed at production of a readable image of the detected conduits. The results were assessed also from the efficiency point of view of the subsurface structure detection method. The phenomenon of signal polarization, which helps to distinguish metallic and plastic conduits, is also discussed. Elements of surveying and computational procedures, leading to completion of content of digital thematic maps by the georadar sensing integrated with GPS positioning, are also given.

Opis:
Brno Trade Fair grounds belong to the largest ones in Czech Republic. Dominating the grounds is the ,"Z" pavilion of circular shape, covered over by steel grill dome with 93,5 m diameter. The pavilion was built up in 1958 after design of Prof. Lederer of Brno. BUT Department of geodesy had been measuring the deformations of the roof construction in course of the maintenance works in period December 2005 - July 2006. In course of altogether 8 measuring epochs the vertical and radial deformations of the construction caused by temperature changes, snow loading, and maintenance works influences had been determined. In the contribution the measuring methods employed, and the results of 8 epochs of the deformation surveys are presented.

The obtained results of the test measurements in the control network of the dam Wióry show that combined usage of length measurements and GPS observations enables to obtain high accuracy and reliability in defining point coordinates. The real determination accuracy of checkpoint displacements in this type of networks is at the level of (plus minus) 2-3mm. However, it should be added that in small networks covering an area up to 1 km in radius, classical measurements (most of all, length measurements) enable to obtain higher accuracies in determining point coordinates, obviously on condition that the net structure is well-designed and length measurement is possible. Having analyzed the obtained results, one can also formulate the following conclusions: - the assumed structure of a modified test network shows effective accuracy both for EDM measurements and GPS observations, - satellite measurements enable combined and direct observation of points between which there is no sight line. It is especially important in the case of reference points which are usually located around the monitored object, and it is rarely possible to link them by means of classical measurements; - GPS measurements make it possible to check the monitored network independently, at least limiting the incidence of major and systematic errors in processing the results and defining displacement values; so GPS observations may, in the case of small control networks, be treated as control measurements made periodically (e.g. every year); - accuracy assessment made for TDA5005 tachymeter observations even in the case of considerable target inclinations, made by means of standard reflectors, attested reflexive foil and CCR fulfills monitoring requirements of specific point (targets), enabling to obtain an accuracy of the (plus minus) 0.5 mm range in relation to reference points; - linear measurements in the test network of Wiory, made by means of a TDA5005 tachymeter and high precision reflectors can be accomplished within 2-3 days.

Opis:
Integracja klasycznych i satelitarnych technik pomiaru znajduje coraz szersze zastosowanie w precyzyjnych pomiarach geodezyjnych. Połączenie zalet obu metod stanowi kolejny krok w wydajności i automatyzacji prac polowych geodety. Niniejsza praca przedstawia ideę i główne założenia pomiarów zintegrowanych, jako metody łączącej pomiary klasyczne i satelitarne GPS. Ponadto dokonano analizy dokładności wyznaczenia współrzędnych stanowiska tachimetrycznego metodą przestrzennego wcięcia wstecz, będącego istotnym elementem pomiaru zintegrowanego. Otrzymane wysokie dokładności pozwalają na pominięcie w pomiarach czasochłonnego procesu zakładania osnów pomiarowych i zastąpienie ich pomiarem zintegrowanym.
Integration of classical and satellite measurement techniques is becoming widely used for high-precision geodetic measurements. Combination of advantages of both methods of measurement represents another step in performance and automation of field surveys. This article presents the idea and main characteristics of integrated measurement. It also compares integrated measurements with separated methods of classical and satellite measurements. In addition, the process and results of determining operating position by 3D resection were demonstrated. The obtained results allow us to undermine validity of setting up measurement control networks in areas with insufficient density of survey points.

Opis:
In the area of measurements monitoring the position of checkpoints in space there are new instrumental solutions being developed: servo-motors, ATR (automatic target recognition), PR (power search), etc. These elements enable to accelerate the measuring process considerably, make the results more objective, help avoid target identification mistakes, introducing the possibility to conduct "continuous" measurements supervised by the operational system of an instrument or a field computer. The article presents the monitoring measurement results obtained by means of measuring systems built in the Institute of Applied Geodesy, under the author's supervision.

The obtained results of the field experiments fully confirmed the feasibility of applying ATR systems in trigonometric levelling. In the tested span experiment at Józefosław, the value difference of height differences obtained with precise geometric levelling and the mean value of all measurements differed by a mere 2.7 mm, and for midnight measurements - it did not exceed 1 mm. The measurements made in the Pieniny Range were also successful in the case of observation compatibility and limiting the impact of atmospheric refraction on measurement results. Unfortunately, the comparison of the obtained height differences with those of 5 years ago showed considerable discrepancies stemming from benchmark subsiding rather than technological accuracy of trigonometric levelling. To verify this thesis it is planned to repeat trigonometric measurements on the testing ground in the Pieniny and to carry out control measurements by means of precise geometric levelling. Summing up, one can note that the use of tacheometers along with ATR enables to automate measurements and related quasi-continuous observations. These traits enable moreover: - to increase the number of observations, and what follows, increase accuracy and reliability of the zenithal length determined, - to average measurements made over a long period, which enables to undermine the influence of atmospheric refraction on the value of height difference measured, - to make observations in different atmospheric conditions, including nighttime when the atmosphere is stable, - to eliminate personal errors of the observer, - to analyze conducted observations in real time.

Opis:
Safe usage of post-flotation waste reservoirs (landfills) requires carrying periodical geodesic measurements in order to control their embankments' stability. This is particularly important if mining operations are performed under the landfill or in its neighbourhood. On the basis of the measurements results, various coefficients of the terrain deformation are determined and their values, together with the results of other observations, are used in order to evaluate the safety status of the facility further usage. The paper presents the results of experimental calculations, using satellite measurements of the landfill observation network fragment, including the middle zone of its embankments. 35 geometrical structures were selected in this zone, named "triangular rosettes". Vertices of relevant triangles are selected points the co-ordinates of which shall be determined with the satellite technology. Three annual cycles of GPS observations in the landfill controlled network were used in calculations, performed in 2004-2006. On the basis of the annual sets of point co-ordinates, periodical horizontal displacements of points making up the rosettes were determined. In turn, for the interior zone of each rosette, components of a two-dimensional deformation tensor were calculated, allowing for determining the values for horizontal extreme deformations and the directions of their occurrence in each rosette zone. Calculations were performed for three time periods: 2004-2005, 2005-2006 and 2004-2006. The results of evaluating the condition of horizontal deformations were presented against the background of mining operations performed in these time periods in the landfill region, as well as against the background of settlements in the analysed points in relevant annual periods obtained from classical observations, realised by precision levelling technology.

Erecting new objects, modernizing the network of underground armature, changes in communication system are accompanied by ground works carried out at considerable depths. Such works often cause changes in traffic engineering, directing traffic to local routes, unprepared for it's reception. Such occurrences cause changes in the construction of existing buildings. Opis:
The construction of an underground railway system is a very demanding building investment. It requires great concentration of a building potential over an exceptionally vast area. On the one hand, the building site covers a vast densely built-up urban area and on the other, a tunnel is actually excavated over a small space covered by its "front" and interior. The above conditions are extraordinary both because of the technical difficulties of the works to be carried out and high precision required by individual construction elements. Another problem is the disturbance of geotechnical stability of the ground and the ensuing dangers posed for the adjacent buildings. The paper presents all basic elements of geodetic activities connected with the underground construction, from the designing stage up to construction works.

The obtained measurement results show that for short targets of a few metres long, position changes of the target axis are considerable and even come close to lc (TC1610). Even in the case of the telescopes of precise T 2002 theodolites geared for close object measurements, target axis vacillations almost amount to 40cc. The course of vertical changes in the target axis vacillations is quite distinctive/typical/unusual/interesting? For all tested instruments the character of these changes was very similar. It is a phenomenon which is difficult to explain in a clear fashion. It should be also noted that the greatest changes take place with short targets up to about 10 m. Vacillations of the target axis above this length are considerably smaller and generally do not exceed 10cc. Although target axis movements expressed in terms of angular units are significant, their influence on accurate location of a point position is slight and does not exceed (especially for the horizontal component) a few hundredths millimeters. In spite of this changes in the target axis should be taken into consideration in designing high precision angular measurements for small objects.

Opis:
In measurements of vertical displacements of constructions, when direct access to checkpoints is very difficult or life threatening, one should apply the measuring technology which would fulfill accuracy requirements and yet avoid all the dangers. The technology in question could involve special code levelling staffs instead of classical solutions. The paper presents tests involving the above method in measuring deformations of the supporting structure of a chemical reactor right after a building disaster or in the trial load of a rebuilt structure. Examples of other positive applications of such a solution are also shown.

Opis:
Scanning performance effect depends both on technical parameters of scanner and advancement of data processing procedures. Accuracy and reliability of model depends on grid density and edge identification efficiency. As visualisation purposes and architectonic designing need models different from ones used in structural analysis a working out the 3D model needs consideration of construction characteristics and exploitation as well as model application. The authors prove this thesis by presentation and analysis of two earthen objects viz. natural slope and geotechnical construction monitored by scanning tacheometry technology.

Opis:
Monitoring of deformations, whether using geodetic or geotechnical instrumentation, besides providing a warning system in case of an abnormal behaviour of the dam, may be used as a tool for a verification of design parameters. By comparing results of monitoring measurements with a deterministic (a-priori) model of deformation, one may determine and explain causes of deformation in a case of unexpected behaviour of the investigated object and its surrounding. Thus, the role of monitoring becomes much broader than just the conventional determination of the status of the deformable object. On the other hand, a predicted behaviour of the dam may be used in designing the monitoring scheme, giving information on the magnitude and location of the expected maximum deformation parameters. In addition, with properly designed monitoring surveys, one may also determine the actual deformation mechanism. The discussed problems are illustrated by three types of earth dams located in California, USA, and in Quebec, Canada.

Opis:
The paper presents analysis of possibilities to utilise results of modelling the work of concrete dam construction elements, obtained by means of the finite elements method (FEM), for the needs of modernisation of a control network. Such analysis should answer the question, whether - basing on the results of modelling with the use of currently controlled points of the object, as the network nodes, and pointing to zones (locations) of threats - it will be possible to formulate recommendations concerning the improvement of a set of controlled points and to perform related modifications of the existing control network.

Opis:
Some error sources in GPS surveys, such as linearization error and orbital bias, are well known and do not require further investigation. The impact of these errors in GPS + pseudolite observations can be different and must be considered separately. This paper presents influence of orbital bias and linearization error on single differenced pseudolite observations.

Opis:
The test loads are an indispensable part of quality control of the foundation piles. Typical examples of foundation piles settlements as presented in this paper are one of the four stages of interpreting the test load results. The remaining stages which accompany the interpretation, i.e. determination of maximum displacement for given load degrees, reparation of an auxiliary diagram, determination of maximum and limit load will be dealt with in the future.

Opis:
Geodetic engineering surveys are an important part of the works carried out by the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, Warsaw University of Technology. These works concern measurement techniques as well as advanced result analysis methods applied in precise industrial surveys and in processes controlling object’s behaviour over time. The thematic scope of research realised by Chair of Engineering Geodesy and Control-Measuring Systems shows that article related to geodetic engineering measurements and geodetic monitoring is carried out with high intensity, resulting in technological advancement and implementation of new or improved measurement solutions and methods of measurement result development.

Opis:
Measurements in engineering surveying are aimed at determining the coordinates of the points of a geodetic control, spatially setting out a technical design of an engineering structure, determining the spatial coordinates of points (or their displacement) that represent an engineering structure, and identifying the displacement and deformation of a studied engineering structure. Provided that the aforementioned measurements are to represent the same engineering structure, such observation results should be settled (adjusted) in one calculation process. The application of the Gauss–Markov theorem for this adjustment using covariance matrix Cov(L) for observed values L is the classical approach for adjusting the results of surveying observations of various accuracy (taking into account accuracy weights). Determining the displacements of points in the process of adjusting the results of periodic measurements, applying different methods of tying geodetic controls to national networks, and using various instruments and measurement methods result in the individual displacement components or coordinates of the observed points being determined with different accuracies. This circumstance forms the basis for the assumption that the estimated parameters (unknown values) should be random. This paper will formulate the principles of estimation of Gauss–Markov models in which the estimated parameters (X) are random. For this purpose, methods for the prior definition of covariance matrix CX for the estimated parameters will be provided, which will be used to determine the conditional covariance matrix of observation vector L and then to estimate the most probable values of the Xˆ parameters. Covariance matrix Cov(Xˆ) obtained as a result of this estimation will be used to define the limit values of the variances of these parameters.
Celem pomiarów w geodezji inżynieryjnej może być: wyznaczanie współrzędnych punktów osnowy realizacyjnej, wytyczenie w przestrzeni projektu technicznego obiektu inżynierskiego, wyznaczenie przestrzennych współrzędnych punktów lub ich przemieszczeń reprezentujących obiekt inżynierski oraz określenie przemieszczeń i odkształceń badanego obiektu inżynierskiego. Jeżeli wyżej wymienione pomiary odnoszą się do obiektu inżynierskiego, to takie wyniki obserwacji powinny być uzgadniane (wyrównywane) w jednym procesie obliczeniowym. Zastosowanie do tego wyrównania modeli Gaussa– Markowa z wykorzystaniem macierzy kowariancji Cov(L) dla wielkości obserwowanych L stanowi klasyczne postępowanie wyrównywania różnodokładnych wyników obserwacji geodezyjnych, z uwzględnieniem wag dokładności. Wyznaczanie przemieszczeń punktów w procesie wyrównywania wyników okresowych pomiarów, stosowanie różnych sposobów nawiązywania osnów realizacyjnych do sieci państwowych oraz wykorzystywanie różnych przyrządów i metody pomiaru – wszystko to powoduje, że poszczególne składowe przemieszczeń lub współrzędne obserwowanych punktów będą określane z różną dokładnością. Ta okoliczność jest podstawą założenia, że szacowane parametry (niewiadome) powinny mieć charakter losowy. W artykule sformułowano zasady estymacji modeli Gaussa–Markowa, w których szacowane parametry X mają charakter losowy. W tym celu podano sposoby określania a priori macierzy kowariancji CX dla estymowanych parametrów, która została wykorzystana do wyznaczenia macierzy kowariancji warunkowych wektora obserwacji L, a następnie do estymacji najbardziej prawdopodobnych wartości parametrów Xˆ. Uzyskana w wyniku tej estymacji macierz kowariancji Cov(Xˆ) została wykorzystana do ustalenia granicznych wartości wariancji tych parametrów. Praktyczne zastosowanie proponowanego sposobu estymacji modelu G-M do wyznaczania pionowych przemieszczeń powierzchni osuwiska, dla parametrów losowych, zostało zilustrowane na przykładzie fragmentu niwelacyjnej sieci punktów.
