Opis:
Nowadays, stainless steels are very interesting and promising materials with unique properties. They are characterized high mechanical strengths, high toughness and good corrosion resistance, so that can be used in many industrial sectors. An interesting alternative to steels obtained using the conventional methods is sintered stainless steel manufactured using the powder metallurgy technology. AISI 316L stainless steel is one of the best-known and widely used austenitic stainless steel. Modification of surface properties of stainless steels, in particular by applying the Cr3C2 coating is becoming more and more popular. The technique of atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) was used to deposit Cr3C2 - NiAl powder on stainless steel surface. In this study presents arc surface remelting of two types of stainless steel was used by GTAW method in order to improve function and usability these materials. The results of optical microscope metallographic, hardness and scratch test are presented. The main assumption for this study was to analyze the microstructure and hardness after remelting and alloying the surface of 316L steel (using GTAW method) with current intensity 50 A.

Opis:
In this study, modification of the AZ91 magnesium alloy surface layer with a CO2 continuous wave operation laser has been taken on. The extent and character of structural changes generated in the surface layer of the material was being assessed on the basis of both macro- and microscopy investigations, and the EDX analysis. Considerable changes in the structure of the AZ91 alloy surface layer and the morphology of phases have been found. The remelting processing was accompanied by a strong refinement of the structure and a more uniform distribution of individual phases. The conducted investigations showed that the remelting zone dimensions are a result of the process parameters, and that they can be controlled by an appropriate combination of basic remelting parameters, i.e. the laser power, the distance from the sample surface, and the scanning rate. The investigations and the obtained results revealed the possibility of an effective modification of the AZ91 magnesium alloy surface layer in the process of remelting carried out with a CO2 laser beam.

The paper presents results of the effect of laser surface remelting and alloying by carbides powders of NbC, TaC, TiC, VC and WC on the structure and thermal fatigue resistance of the surface layer of hot work tool steels X40CrMoV5-l and 32CrMoV12-28. The laser surface alloying and remelting treatments was performed using a high power diode laser (HPDL ROFTN SLNAR DL 020). In order to investigate the effect of applied laser treatments and used alloying powders on the microstructure and thermal fatigue resistance of processed surface layer of hot work tool steels, the inicrostructure evaluation by light microscopy, hardness test, and dedicated thermal fatigue resistance test were performed. The best results regarding fatigue cracks inhibition was obtained when the surface of hot work tool steels was alloyed with TiC and VC carbides at the laser beam power of 2.0 and 2.3 kW. The grain refinement effect of laser remelting has a lower impact on the thermal crack inhibition, than a strong strengthening effect of matrix saturation in alloying elements and precipitation of fine carbides in the steel matrix.

Opis:
The results of the investigations of the laser remelting of the AlSi9Cu4 cast aluminium alloy with the anodised and non-anodised surface layer and hardness changes have been presented in this paper. The surface layer of the tested aluminium samples was remelted with the laser of a continuous work. The power density was from 8,17•103 W/cm2 to 1,63•104 W/cm2. The metallographic tests were conducted in form of light microscope investigations of the received surface layer. The main goal of the investigation was to find the relation between the laser beam power and its power density falling on a material, evaluating the shape and geometry of the remelted layers and their hardness. As the substrate material two types of surfaces of the casted AlSi9Cu4 alloy were applied – the non–treated as cast surface as well the anodized surface. As a device for this type of surface laser treatment the High Power Diode Laser was applied with a maximum power of 2.2 kW and the dimensions of the laser beam focus of 1.8 x 6.8 mm. By mind of such treatment it is also possible to increase hardness as well eliminate porosity and develop metallurgical bonding at the coating-substrate interface. Suitable operating conditions for HPDL laser treatment were finally determined, ranging from 1.0 to 2.0 kW. Under such conditions, taking into account the absorption value, the effects of laser remelting on the surface shape and roughness were studied. The results show that surface roughness is reduced with increasing laser power by the remelting process only for the non-anodised samples, and high porosity can be found in the with high power remelted areas. The laser influence increases with the heat input of the laser processing as well with the anodisation of the surface, because of the absorption enhancement ensured through the obtained alumina layer.

Opis:
Plasma spraying is a process widely used to fabricate wear resistant coatings. However, various problems are associated with plasma spraying out of which poor bonding strength between the coating and the substrate and the high porosity in the as sprayed coatings are of major concern. In order to eliminate these problems and enhance wear performance, the laser remelting process has been used. The laser remelting of plasma sprayed Mo coatings alters the wear mechanism and improves the wear resistance. The wear mechanism and wear volume loss depend on the applied load, sliding speed and sliding distance. Hence, an effort has been made to investigate the effect of process parameters on volume loss using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) based mathematical models. The experiments were planned as per Central Composite Design (CCD). The investigations revealed that the applied load was the most dominant factor affecting the volume loss of the coating. The sliding speed, sliding distance and interaction effects were considered as the next important parameters influencing the volume loss. The investigation also reveals that, the wear volume loss depends on two wear mechanisms, one being the formations of grooves along surface tribo films and other being fracture of splats with delamination of the coating.

Opis:
The main problem occurring during the laser hardening of tools is the lack of continuity and diversity of surface layer properties as a result of the use of many parallel hardening paths. As a consequence, there may be a forgiven or under-hardened area between successive paths. The paper presents the original method of laser hardening of tools, especially bending, using a laser beam splitter. Such a hardening method enables simultaneous heating and tempering of the tool corner and the surfaces adjoining it at the desired width in one pass with the same parameters. As a consequence, the hardened layer is uniform on the surface of the corner and adjacent surfaces, i.e. without forgiven or unhardened areas. The use of this method requires equipping the hardening laser head with a divider, whose task is to distribute the laser beam to separate parts of the beam with adjustable width by means of appropriately placed mirrors. The new method of hardening not only eliminates the problem of so-called hardening marks created as a result of laser hardening, which directly affects the quality, durability and durability of the tool, but is also much more efficient and also beneficial for economic reasons.

Opis:
The paper presents results of a study on the effect of the flux density of heat carried away for the remelting area to substrate in the course of surface remelting with concentrated heat stream on values of structural parameters λ1D and λ2D of α(Al) phase dendrites in C355 alloy. The remeltings were made with the use of GTAW method, at arc current intensity I = 200 A and concentrated heat stream scanning speed vs = 200, 400, 600, and 800 mm/min. The used protective gas was argon supplied at rate of 20 l/min. It has been found that the increase of the rate of scanning with concentrated heat stream results in a change of the remelting-substrate separation surface shape consisting in reduction of the remelting width and depth. This increases the value of the flux density of heat transmitted from the remelting area to substrate which in turn acts in favor of reduction of structural parameters λ1D and λ2D characterizing α(Al) phase dendrites in C355 alloy.

Paper present a thermal analysis of laser heating and remelting of EN AC-48000 (EN AC-AlSi12CuNiMg) cast alloy used mainly for casting pistons of internal combustion engines. Laser optics were arranged such that the impingement spot size on the material was a circular with beam radius rb changes from 7 to 1500 μm. The laser surface remelting was performed under argon flow. The resulting temperature distribution, cooling rate distribution, temperature gradients and the depth of remelting are related to the laser power density and scanning velocity. The formation of microstructure during solidification after laser surface remelting of tested alloy was explained. Laser treatment of alloy tests were perform by changing the three parameters: the power of the laser beam, radius and crystallization rate. The laser surface remelting needs the selection such selection of the parameters, which leads to a significant disintegration of the structure. This method is able to increase surface hardness, for example in layered castings used for pistons in automotive engines.

In this study, low-carbon cast steel was reinforced with TiC by SHS-B method, also known as combustion synthesis during casting method. The composite zone was then subjected to surface remelting by Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) method. The remelting operation was realized manually, at 150 A current magnitude. Microstructure, phase composition and hardness of remelted zone were investigated. XRD results reveal that the phases of the composite zone in initial state consist of TiC and Feα. Surface remelting resulted in formation of thick layers containing TiC carbides, Feα and Feγ. Microstructural examination has shown strong refinement of titanium carbides in remelted zone and complete dissolution of primary titanium carbides synthetized during casting. The average diameter of carbides was below 2 μm. The structural changes are induced by fast cooling which affects crystallization rate. The hardness (HV30) of the remelted layer was in the range between 250 HV and 425 HV, and was lower than hardness in initial state.

Among methods of surface hardening of iron alloys by carbon the most progressive and energy saving are methods based on the application of concentrated sources of energy. Plasma of electrical arch was used for spheroidal cast iron hardening. Metalographical, hardness, X-ray diffraction and received layers' penetration tests were performed. Layers of "on cold" re-melting revealed 65+67 HRC hardness but microcrackings occurred. Initial heating of cast iron or repeated remelting were employed in order to eliminate crackings. For technical-economical purposes the method of surface hardening by repeated remelting is more advantageous than remelting of initially heated cast.
