In this study, flotation experiments, zeta potential, XPS, AFM, SEM-EDS, and contact angle measurements were performed to study the influence of ammonium carbamate (CH6N2O2) on the sulfidation flotation of chrysocolla. The results of the sulfidation flotation experiments showed that the recovery of chrysocolla increased more than 40% on the optimal condition after adding ammonium carbamate. In addition, the zeta potential of samples with ammonium carbamate was clearly higher than ores for pH > 6, which was due to the complexation reaction between ammonium carbamate and copper ion on the surface of chrysocolla samples. The activity of copper adsorption has also been improved. Furthermore, the XPS data indicated that the content of Cu-S compounds on the mineral surface has been significantly enhanced after ammonium carbamate complex sulfidation. The chemical analysis of the solution led to the same conclusion. The AFM results showed that ammonium carbamate had a positive impact on the adsorption of minerals surface, and increased the flotation recovery. It can be deduced from the SEM-EDS analysis that the surface of chrysocolla better combined with S–, and more Cu-S components were generated on the surface, which led to 1.04% increase of S atomic concentration. Finally, the contact angle measurements showed that the water contact angle of chrysocolla after adding ammonium carbamate could reach 90.4°, which proved that the sulfidation improved the floatability of the chrysocolla sample.

Opis:
The paper presents an overview of experimental results of various plasma applications based on atmospheric and vacuum discharges. A multifunctional low-temperature ozone sterilizer with a ultrasonic cavitation and dielectric barrier discharge generated at atmospheric pressure as well as ozonators with a diaphragm for water treatment and disinfection of medical tools have been developed. Particular attention is paid to the investigation of arc, high-frequency and non-self maintained discharges generated in vacuum for coatings application. Some aspects of pulsed plasma treatment, surface modification and hardening due to nitriding, oxidation and carburization are discussed.

Wettability of the surface of bacterial cellulose film modified with low energy ion implantation The paper presents the preliminary results of the modification on the water wettability of cellulose, using ion implantation method. Two kinds ions of the noble gases, i.e. helium and argon were implanted with fluences of 1e15 nand 1e16 cm-2, and with the ion energy of 60 keV. The measurements of the contact angle values show the different influence of both types ions on the hydrophobicity of the modified cellulose, but the hydrophobicity of implanted cellulose increases in all cases. The real investigations were supplemented with the modelling results of the depth profiles of the implanted ions and the main parameters of the modelled peaks.
Zwilżalność powierzchni celulozy bakteryjnej modyfikowanej metodą implantacji jonów. Artykuł przedstawia wstępne wyniki modyfikacji na zwilżalność wodą implantowanej jonami celulozy. W badaniach wykorzystano dwa rodzaje gazów szlachetnych, tj. hel i argon. Implantowane dawki wynosiły 1e15 i 1e16 cm-2, a energia jonów 60 keV. Pomiary kąta zwilżania pokazują różny wpływ obydwu typów jonów na hydrofobowość modyfikowanej celulozy, jednakże hydrofobowość wzrasta we wszystkich przypadkach. Badania zostały uzupełnione wynikami modelowania głębokosciowych profili implantowanych jonów i głównych parametrów modelowanych pików.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of epoxy resin curing agents and aluminium surface modification on the properties of adhesive joints which were subjected to aging under thermal shock conditions. Composites containing reinforced aramid and carbon fibres with aluminium flat profiles (alloy Al 5754) were tested under shear conditions. Epoxy resin (Araldite LY 1564) with amine curing agents (Aradur 3486, Aradur 3487 and Aradur 3405) was used as a matrix. Composites were made using vacuum-assisted contact lamination. The degree of degradation was assessed on the basis of lap shear strength of adhesive joints in accordance with EN ISO 1465:2009. The research showed that epoxy composite samples based on Aradur 3405 (accelerated aliphatic polyamine) and sanded surface of aluminium presented the best lap shear adhesive strength, because this composite has the largest roughness. The hardness of the used adhesive is slightly increased with the cycle number.

Herein, an effort was made to investigate the antibacterial potential of agarose nanoparticles (ANPs) and poly(quaternary ammonium) modifi ed ANPs (mANPs) against Escherichia coli (gram-negative bacterium) and Staphylococcus aureus (gram positive bacterium) in liquid systems as well as on agar plates. ANPs were synthesized by nanoprecipitation technology and characterized by XRD, TEM, TGA, DTA and DLS. The particle size estimated was 30 nm while atomic force microscopy was used to observe the interaction of ligand on ANPs. Antimicrobial characterization was monitored by colony forming units (CFU) as a function of ANPs concentration on agar plates. It was observed that ANPs showed 15 x 109/ml CFU after 24 hours of incubation at 20 mM ANPs concentration while the modified ANPs exhibited 21 x 109/ml CFU under similar incubation conditions. Moreover, zone of inhibition (ZOI) was 2.9 and 3.8 cm, respectively for E. coli by ANPs at 0.2 and 0.4 mM, respectively while it was 3.2 and 3.8 cm respectively by modified ANPs under similar conditions. Similarly, ZOI for S. aureus by ANPs at 0.2 and 0.4 mM was observed at 3.1 and 4.0 cm, respectively, while these values were 3.5 and 4.1 cm, respectively for modified ANPs under similar incubation conditions.

In this paper, surface modification of cerussite by thermochemical processing with pyrite was studied based on microflotation tests, X-ray powder diffractometry (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Microflotation test results showed that the surface modification facilitated flotation of the treated cerussite and improved the flotation recovery to approximately 90%. The results of XRD analyses confirmed that cerussite was transformed into massicot, which then interacted with pyrite to form $PbS$, $PbSO_4$, $PbO•PbSO_4$ and $4PbO•PbSO_4$. XPS analyses results revealed that both $PbS$ and $PbS_2$ were formed on the mineral surface, and the percentage of $PbS$ increased with increasing $FeS_2$/$PbCO_3$ (F/P) mole ratio, which was advantageous for the flotation of the modified cerussite. EPMA analyses showed that particles with layered configurations were obviously formed after thermochemical processing. The thickness of the products at the outer layer of the particles increased when the F/P mole ratio increased. Moreover, the S and O contents in the products increased and decreased, respectively.

Opis:
A single pulse of 2.0 to 3.5 kJ of input energy from a 450 mF capacitor was applied to a commercially pure Ti rod in a N2 atmosphere. The surface of the Ti rod transformed from TiO2 into titanium nitride in times as short as 159 msec, providing a bimodal morphology of the cross-section. A much higher value of hardness that was observed at the edge of the cross-section was attributed to nitrogen-induced solid-solution hardening that occurred during the electrical discharge process. The activation energy (Ea) for the diffusion process was estimated to be approximately 86.9 kJ/mol. Results show that the electrical discharge process is a possible potential method for the nitriding of Ti; advantages include a short processing time and control of the nitrided layer without dimensional changes.

Opis:
Functionalization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) has an effect on the dispersion of MWCNT in the epoxy matrix. Samples based on two kinds of epoxy resin and different weight percentage of MWCNTs (functionalized and non-functionalized) were prepared. Epoxy/carbon nanotubes composites were prepared by different mixing methods (ultrasounds and a combination of ultrasounds and mechanical mixing). CNTs modified with different functional groups were investigated. Surfactants were used to lower the surface tension of the liquid, which enabled easier spreading and reducing the interfacial tension. Solvents were also used to reduce the liquid viscosity. Some of them facilitate homogeneous dispersion of nanotubes in the resin. The properties of epoxy/nanotubes composites strongly depend on a uniform distribution of carbon nanotubes in the epoxy matrix. The type of epoxy resin, solvent, surfactant and mixing method for homogeneous dispersion of CNTs in the epoxy matrix was evaluated. The effect of CNTs functionalization type on their dispersion in the epoxy resins was evaluated on the basis of viscosity and microstructure studies.

The paper presents the preparation and characterization of TiO2 coating doped with Ca produced by the sol-gel method using titanium alkoxide as the precursor of titania as well as calcium nitrate as dopant source. These coatings were used to modify the biomedical alloy M30NW. Using the optical microscopy and the atomic force microscopy the topography of synthesized coatings was characterized. Whereas using electrochemical methods the corrosion measurements were carried out. Anticorrosion properties of calcium-doped TiO2 coating were determined in PBS solution on the basis of corrosion potential Ecor, polarization resistance Rp, corrosion rate CR, current density in the passive range i0.5 and also breakdown Eb and repassivation Erep potentials. Analogous corrosion tests were also made for the uncoated alloy as well as for alloy coated with pure TiO2 coating. It was stated that modification of M30NW alloy surface by calcium-doped TiO2 coating shows anticorrosion properties in PBS solution. These properties are slightly lower compared to a pure TiO2 coating. The analysis of the topography of TiO2-based coatings showed that calcium doping increases the surface development and roughness of the obtained coatings.

Fibrous scaffolds based on (bio)polymers are ob¬served as mimicking the microstructure of the extracel¬lular matrix. Thus, they are considered as an example of a utilitarian scaffold, useful for the regeneration of various types of tissues. The techniques described in the literature are well known to obtain submicrometric and nanometric fibers that, when randomly arranged, mimic the ECM. The biomimetic scaffold criterion might be even better reflected if the cell adhesion sites are present on the surface of such fibers. They promote the formation of the focal adhesion contact or facilitate the formation of a protein film on the fiber surface. Such a process is enhanced by an appropriate physical or chemical modification that activates the protein adsorption and the subsequent cell adhesion. The aim of this paper is to present different methods of physical and/or chemi¬cal modifications of fibrous materials: which can serve as scaffolds to support the regeneration processes of various tissues. In terms of physical methods, only weak interactions between the surface and the modi¬fier were observed. This technique is simple but not durable. Chemisorption used as a second method of fiber modification is possible if a covalent or ionic bond is formed between the fiber and the modifier. Therefo¬re, the chemical adsorption may not be fully reversible and requires a sequence of chemical actions to form a chemical bond. The most commonly used methods are the combined methods where the first step is the physical activation of the fiber surface, which facilitates the chemical modification step.

Industrial oil was collected using hydrophobic silica powders. Silica nanopowder was modified with octadecyltriethoxysilane (OTS) using spray pyrolysis reactor continuously. Besides nanoparticles, mesoporous silica powder synthesized using Pluronic P104 was adopted as another oil adsorbents. Spherical macroporous or meso-macroporous silica particles were prepared by selfassembly for the removal of oil. The effects of the amount of powder on the oil adsorption were studied and compared with the results of various silica powders. The meso-macroporous silica particles were found to be the most efficient, indicating that both specific surface area and porosity played crucial role.
