Opis:: Purpose: To propose a framework for choosing a project management approach for student research projects, taking into account the individual objectives of the advisor and the student, their personalities, the project type, and its environment. The proposed approach should increase the success rate of student research projects. Design/methodology/approach: Student research projects are characterized, and the relevant literature is reviewed. The theory concerning recent project management developments that could be potentially useful for student research projects is presented. A case study is analyzed. On the basis of the case study and the literature findings, a conceptual framework for the selection of a student research project management approach is proposed. Findings: It was found that student research projects, although apparently nonproblematic, need a conscious, individualized, situation-based selection of project management approach in order to assure a high success rate, according to the individual success understanding of project stakeholders. Research limitations/implications: The proposed framework is a conceptual one. It was developed on the basis of theory and under consideration of student research projects in one area and homogenous culture. Further research is needed to add new aspects to the approach, expand it to other research areas and cultures, and validate its usefulness in practice. Practical implications: Higher education institutions should promote project management knowledge among teachers and students, and conscious decision-making on the way student research projects will be performed. They should elaborate tailor-made frameworks for student research project management. Social implications: Student research projects, if managed improperly, may cause students and advisors dissatisfaction and stress. The approach we propose may, in the long term, increase the quality of life of students and advisors. Originality/value: The framework supporting the conscious selection of the way student research projects are managed, comprising recent developments in project management and taking into account the specific features and environment of each individual project, is an original contribution of the paper. It is addressed both to student project advisors and students themselves, as well as the managers of higher educational institutions.

Artykuł ma charakter koncepcyjny a jego celem jest prezentacja koncepcji badań empirycznych, dotyczących wpływu zbieżności wykorzystywanych metodyk na sukces projektu. Przegląd literatury pozwala na sformułowanie hipotezy badawczej, wskazującej, że zbieżność stosowanych przez partnerów projektu metodyk i standardów zarządzania projektami jest istotnym czynnikiem powodzenia wspólnego projektu. Sformułowana hipoteza badawcza będzie testowana w badaniach ankietowych w sektorze IT (n = 320).
One of the success factors of projects implemented in inter-organizational cooperation identified by the Authors is the concurrence of standards and methodologies of project management used by project partners. The purpose of this conceptual paper is to present the concept of empirical research on the impact of the concurrence of PM standards and methodologies used on the success of the cooperative project. The literature review allows us to formulate a research hypothesis that the concurrence of PM standards and methodologies used by the project partners is an essential factor in the success of a joint project. The formulated research hypothesis will be tested in surveys within the IT sector (n = 320).

Opis:: Introduction/background: Obtaining funding for the implementation of a project entails the need to adapt the project to the requirements set by the European Union, as well as adequate competence on the part of the project team. This was particularly difficult during the Covid-19 pandemic, as even the most experienced and specialised teams could not fully anticipate the pandemic situation, which forced a number of changes in relation to the running of projects. These changes ranged from projects started before the outbreak of the pandemic to those that had already started during the pandemic. Given the authors' personal experience of working on EU projects during this period, there was very little information on how to implement changes in accordance with the health restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Health. At the time of the epidemic, even what appeared to be basic information had to be changed or clarified, however, to comply with the guidelines for implementing European projects. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, many organisations and actors implemented projects successfully. The question then is what factors influenced the successful implementation of these projects? Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to identify and define the conditions affecting the successful implementation of EU co-financed projects during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods: The study used a diagnostic survey method and desk research analysis, and the research tool used was an original interview questionnaire. Results and conclusions: The following were identified as the most important factors influencing the success of EU projects during the COVID-19 pandemic: the high level of knowledge of team members and their personality traits, the ability to transfer knowledge effectively, communication skills on the part of the project manager and team members, and the provision of appropriate tools and technology to carry out the work remotely.

Opis:: The purpose of the paper is to investigate the factors impacting project success among personnel based on the example of the Yemeni oil and gas industry. The data was analyzed by hypothesis testing, Smart-PLS tool, SPSS and several statistical methods such as the Structural modelling, regression weights and T statistics and regression technique, utilized to comprehend the variables' dimensionality. The results showed that influential factors i.e. personnel (P), project schedule/plan (PSP), troubleshooting (TS) and technical tasks (TT) as well as the technological advancement (TA) have a statistically significant relationship with project success. It suggests that increasing the success rate of projects may be bilaterally beneficial to the project managers. Limitations and suggestions for future research were also mentioned.
Celem artykułu jest zbadanie czynników wpływających na sukces projektu wśród personelu na przykładzie jemeńskiego przemysłu naftowo-gazowego. Dane zostały przeanalizowane za pomocą testowania hipotez, narzędzia Smart-PLS, SPSS i kilku metod statystycznych, takich jak modelowanie strukturalne, wagi regresji oraz statystyki T i techniki regresji, wykorzystywane do zrozumienia wymiarowości zmiennych. Wyniki pokazały, że czynniki wpływające, tj. personel (P), harmonogram/plan projektu (PSP), rozwiązywanie problemów (TS) i zadania techniczne (TT) oraz zaawansowanie technologiczne (TA) mają statystycznie istotny związek z sukcesem projektu. Sugeruje to, że zwiększenie wskaźnika sukcesu projektów może być obustronnie korzystne dla kierowników projektów. Wspomniano również o ograniczeniach i sugestiach dotyczących przyszłych badań.

Opis:: Introduction/background: A great many factors influence the course of a project. Both internal and external ones. One of the most important of these is undoubtedly the project's stakeholders, i.e. all those persons or entities who have an influence on and interest in the project. Stakeholder management focuses on the relationship between the project company and its stakeholders. These relationships can have both positive and negative impacts on the success of the project. Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to diagnose and analyse the project stakeholder management process in a selected outsourcing company. Materials and methods: This paper is based on a critical analysis of the literature and a questionnaire survey among 56 employees of the outsourcing company under study. Results and conclusions: Based on the results obtained from the questionnaire survey, the rationale for improving project stakeholder management in the surveyed outsourcing company was identified.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie istoty systemów wczesnego ostrzegania w zarządzaniu projektami w kontekście osiągania celów projektów. Potrzeba stosowania narzędzi wczesnego ostrzegania w zarządzaniu projektami ma uzasadnienie przede wszystkim w fakcie, że z reguły (pomijając zdarzenia nadzwyczajne) przedsiębiorstwa wykazują objawy sytuacji kryzysowych w realizacji podejmowanych projektów na długo przedtem zanim dojdzie do niepowodzenia projektu. Wczesne zidentyfikowanie sygnałów zbliżającego się kryzysu powinno być zatem jednym z podstawowych zadań w zarządzaniu projektami. W artykule omówiono rolę systemu wczesnego ostrzegania oraz jego funkcje. Wskazano na zastosowania systemów wczesnego ostrzegania w praktyce. Przedstawiono przykład systemu wczesnego ostrzegania na przykładzie systemu ELOshield w obszarze procesów logistycznych.
The aim of the work is to present the nature of early warning systems in project management in the context of achieving project goals. The need to use early warning tools in project management is justified primarily in the fact that, as a rule, (apart from extraordinary events) enterprises show symptoms of crisis situations in the implementation of projects undertaken long before the project fails. Early identification of signals of the impending crisis should therefore be one of the basic tasks in project management. The article discusses the role of the early warning system and its functions. The applications of early warning systems in practice have been pointed out. An example of an early warning system is presented on the example of the ELOshield system in the field of logistics processes.

Opis:: The article discusses issues related to project value and factors affecting the creation of project value. Based on in-depth literature analysis, approaches to defining project value and project value management are presented. The results of empirical research based on the developed methodology and selected research instruments used in the study of 80 organizations were presented. The analysis of research results leads to the conclusion that the value of the project is influenced by a lot of internal and external determinants. A diagnosis of the level of determinants in the organization allows project managers to correctly and gradually plan the value of the project and to efficiently and effectively implement individual phases of project value management, as well as make decisions regarding raising this value in the future.
W artykule omówiono zagadnienia związane z wartością projektu oraz z czynnikami wpływającymi na tworzenie wartości projektu. Na podstawie pogłębionej analizy literatury przedstawiono podejścia do definiowania wartości projektu oraz zarządzania wartością projektu. Zaprezentowano wyniki badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych na podstawie opracowanej metodyki oraz dobranych instrumentów badawczych wykorzystanych w badaniu 80 organizacji. Analiza wyników badań prowadzi do stwierdzenia, że na wartość projektu ma wpływ bardzo wiele determinant wewnętrznych i zewnętrznych. Diagnoza poziomu występujących determinant w organizacji pozwala kierownikom projektu prawidłowo i rzetelnie zaplanować wartość projektu oraz sprawnie i efektywnie realizować poszczególne fazy zarządzania wartością projektu, a także podejmować decyzje w zakresie podnoszenia tej wartości w przyszłości.

Opis:: This comparative study examines the moderating role of risk management in project planning and project success in the construction business of the UK and Pakistan. The data was gathered from 152 project managers (76 from both economies each) using a survey questionnaire. The purposive sampling technique was used to ensure fair representation of sample size and the RAND formula was used to select the project managers. For quantitative analysis, partial least square structural equation modelling technique was utilised. The results confirmed that project planning had a statistically significant impact on project success. Furthermore, risk management significantly moderated the relationship between project planning and project success in the construction businesses despite being in two different economies. The paper contributes to the enhancement of the body of knowledge intended for global companies and academicians aiming to implement risk management frameworks to enhance project success and ensure the effectiveness of project planning in a competitive business environment. It offers a new perspective to investigate the relationship between project planning and project success through moderating the effect of risk management, which is a new theoretical dimension for construction business and the field of project management. It is proposed to the governments and construction businesses operating in the UK and Pakistan to validate the empirical research framework in the cross-cultural context while assessing risk and uncertainty. It helps the construction business in the evaluation of risk while planning and successfully implementing project strategies.

Opis:: The present paper considers the problem of the success of a research project evaluated by its outputs (which can be seen as the project’s success measures) related to its inputs (constituting the project’s success factors). Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models are used. The inputs and outputs are selected on the basis of a review of the literature. Two models are applied to a set of research projects implemented in Poland. Advantages and disadvantages of the approach are shown. In particular, the selection of inputs, outputs and their weights needs to be researched further. But the models used in the paper, in spite of their imperfection and lack of generality, considerably help to assess and compare the projects. Therefore, DEA is an important tool for the evaluation of R&D activities.

Opis:: Wzrost znaczenia zwinnych metod staje się światowym trendem w zarządzaniu projektami IT. Ze względu na specyfikę wdrażanych projektów, podejście prezentowane w tych metodach jest coraz częściej wybierane i preferowane zarówno przez klientów, jak i przez dostawców rozwiązań. Obserwacja rynku nie pozostawia wątpliwości, że zwinne metodyki zarządzania projektami napotykają na szereg trudności, ograniczeń i barier. Mają one wpływ zarówno na wybór metodyki, jak również na ostateczny sukces projektu. Dotyczy to w szczególności rozwiązań realizowanych w sektorze publicznym. Artykuł jest próbą charakteryzacji i usystematyzowania przyczyn tych ograniczeń i pokazuje szczególnie istotne bariery z perspektywy prawnej i organizacyjnej. Badania własne, analiza źródeł wtórnych, a także wielu projektów wdrożeń w branży pozwoliły na identyfikację kluczowych rekomendacji w zakresie koniecznych zmian.
The agile methods are becoming increasingly popular in IT project management worldwide. The character of the implemented projects makes this approach more and more favored among both clients and solution providers. An examination of the market reveals that agile project management faces different problems, limitations and barriers that influence the choice of given methodology and condition the successful delivery of projects, especially in the public sector. The article attempts to characterize and systematize the reasons for such limitations and to indicate major obstacles to the implementation from legal and organizational perspective. The own research, analysis of secondary sources, as well as numerous implementation projects in the field allowed for the formulation of key recommendations for necessary changes.

Badania własne polegały na przeprowadzeniu pogłębionych wywiadów z kierownikami projektów w obszarze nauk biomedycznych i nauk o zdrowiu w Polsce i we Francji. Wyniki badań wskazują na potrzebę pilnych zmian, zarówno w zakresie funkcjonowania instytucji realizujących projekty, jak i w zakresie sposobu realizacji projektów oraz mentalności wszystkich interesariuszy projektów.
The main goal of this paper is an analysis of success in research projects in biomedical and health sciences and, further, identification of critical factors of success in this kind of projects. The paper summarizes the state of the art in the analysis of success in research projects. Moreover, it presents the findings of own research. The in-depth interviews with project managers of biomedical and health sciences projects in Poland and France, were conducted. The results show the need of urgent changes: in functioning of medical/scientific institutions, the way of realizing projects, and mentality of project stakeholders.

Opis:: The paper is focused on conditions, process and results of the organizational change due to the introduction of new project management methodology. After literature review, the multiple case study of the ICT companies implementing new agile project management methodology is being presented. As the results show, the change of the project management methodology might affect the project success in large and complex ICT projects. Moreover, it might lead to the organizational transformation in technology, methodology, processes, strategy, organization and organizational culture extending competitive advantage of the organization.
Celem pracy jest pokazanie uwarunkowań, przebiegu oraz skutków zmian organizacyjnych wynikających z wprowadzenia nowej metodyki zarządzania projektami. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań własnych w postaci wielokrotnego studium przypadku przedsiębiorstw sektora teleinformatyki wprowadzających nową zwinną metodykę zarządzania projektami. Jak wykazano w badaniach, zmiana metodyki zarządzania projektami może prowadzić zarówno do zwiększenia szans na sukces dużych i złożonych projektów informatycznych oraz teleinformatycznych, jak i do transformacji przedsiębiorstwa, rozumianej jako szereg gruntownych zmian w obszarach technologicznym, metodycznym, procesowym, strategicznym, organizacyjnym i kulturowym, zorientowanych na zwiększenie przewagi konkurencyjnej.

Opis:: Background: Project effectiveness is synonymous with project success. It is measured or assessed in terms of the degree to which project objectives are achieved. This paper presents an approach to evaluating the effectiveness of logistics projects. The starting point is the analysis of the current state of knowledge in the area of assessing project effectiveness, including logistics projects. The purpose of the study was to identify the critical factors determining the success of logistics projects and develop a model of logistics project effectiveness. Methods: The paper is based on the available recent scientific-theoretical research and publications and on practical studies in 25 enterprises seated in Poland. The study carried out by the authors had the form of questionnaires. The authors used a case study to validate the model of fuzzy decision-making system dedicated to estimate the level of logistics project effectiveness. Results: Based on a literature review and research findings, the authors propose the key success factors for logistics project effectiveness. In the paper the authors propose an approach to measure the level of logistics project effectiveness using their model based on fuzzy logic. This model laid the foundations for a fuzzy decision-making system in MATLAB environmental. The paper describes the implementation of the model via a case study. Conclusions: This approach allows for a more detailed description of logistics project effectiveness. The proposed model may be implemented by logisticians in an enterprise and/or supply chain. The approach can be useful to assess the level to which logistics project objectives are achieved - logistics project effectiveness.
Wstęp: Efektywność projektu jest często utożsamiana z sukcesem projektu. Praca podejmuje zagadnienia związane z pomiarem i oceną skuteczności projektów, w tym przypadku projektów logistycznych. Autorzy dokonali analizy literatury tematu. Wyodrębnili kluczowe mierniki sukcesu projektów logistycznych. Na bazie przeprowadzonych badań zbudowano model skuteczności projektów logistycznych, który następnie zaimplementowano w systemie MATLAB. Metody: Praca została przygotowana w oparciu o dostępne badania zarówno teoretyczne, jak i praktyczne. Przeprowadzono badania ankietowe w 25 przedsiębiorstwach w Polsce. Wykorzystano studium przypadku celem ilustracji podjętego problemu. Rezultaty: Przygotowano zestaw mierników umożliwiających dokonanie oceny stopnia skuteczności realizacji celów projektów. Przygotowano model umożliwiający pomiar i ocenę skuteczności działań projektowych, który wykorzystuje logikę rozmytą. Opracowany model został zaimplementowany w systemie MATLAB. Wnioski: Proponowane podejście umożliwia opis problemu pomiaru i oceny skuteczności realizacji projektów logistycznych. Zaproponowane podejście może zostać wykorzystane przez logistyków, menedżerów projektów w ocenie skuteczności działań podejmowanych przez nich projektów logistycznych.
