Opis:
The aim of the study was to develop a low-cost method for tourism opportunity spectrum evaluation in rural landscapes. The method uses the geographic information system (GIS) for spatial analysis of the problem. Open source materials are used in the evaluation. Three principal indices derived from spatial data are evaluated: attraction index, view index, and access index. These form the basis for tourism suitability and opportunity spectrum evaluation. The analysis is realized for two types of tourists: those using cars, and hikers. The method permits the current state of tourism to be identified, and points out possible ways for further development as well as identifying valuable but overexploited zones which should be conserved. The obtained results can improve the sustainable management of landscapes and enhance the profits of rural areas.

We consider the median solution of the Newsvendor Problem. Some properties of such a solution are shown through a theoretical analysis and a numerical experiment. Sometimes, though not often, median solution may be better than solutions maximizing expected profit, or maximizing minimum possible, over distribution with the same average and standard deviation, expected profit, according to some criteria. We discuss the practical suitability of the objective function set and the solution derived, for the Newsvendor Problem, and other such random optimization problems.

Anticipating the wide possibilities of different applications of immature cereal grain, the examination of the samples of winter wheat grain, collected in 6 stages from flowering to wax maturity was carried out in 1993. It was found that the degree of the kernel's fulfillment and its biochemical state (mainly the state of carbohydrate and protein complexes) in 30-40 days after flowering was the most suitable for utilisation of immature grain in various applications.
Przewidując szerokie możliwości różnorodnego wykorzystania niedojrzałego ziarna zbóż, przeprowadzono badania próbek ziarna pszenicy ozimej pobranych w 1993 r. w sześciu terminach od kwitnienia do dojrzałości woskowej. Określono, że po 30-40 dniach od kwitnienia stopień wypełnienia ziarniaka i jego stan biochemiczny (głównie stan kompleksów węglowodanowego i białkowego) jest odpowiedni dla wykorzystania ziarna niedojrzałego do różnego rodzaju zastosowań.

W pracy wskazano, że przy ocenie wartości węgla kamiennego należy co najmniej uwzględnić jego właściwości energetyczne, ekologiczne, ekonomiczne i społeczne. Przedstawiono propozycje wskaźników przydatności energetycznej charakteryzujące poszczególne właściwości. Ponadto wykazano, że parametrem określającym jakość paliwa może być jego kaloryczność (wartość opałowa).
The paper indicates that its energy, ecological, economic and social properties should be considered when assessing the value of fuel. Suggestions of usefulness indicators characterizing particular properties were presented. In addition, it was shown that its calorific value can be considered as a parameter determining the quality of fuel.

There is a cascade of hydroelectric power plants built on the Váh River. From a water-management point of view, the natural channel is used to drain extreme discharges. During most of the year, discharges are regulated by water-management structures. These discharges are not used for energy-related purposes; therefore, it is important to determine the optimal discharge that will not negatively affect the ecosystem of the stream. The minimum balance discharge (hydro-ecological discharge) was determined based on the instream flow incremental methodology (IFIM) using the riverine habitat simulation system (RHABSIM). Input data were obtained from direct measurements on three reference reaches in the area between the cities Piešťany and Nové Mesto nad Váhom. Hydraulic flow characteristics were derived from three measurements at different water levels. Habitat quality was represented by ichthyofauna. Data to determine the habitat suit-ability curves of fish were obtained using a diving technique to collect video footage. The modelling resulted in the quantification of the effect of discharge on ichthyofauna as a bio-indicator of habitat quality, which implied the need of 20 m3∙s–1 for a minimum balance discharge in summer.

Theoretical background: The order to assess the suitability and adequacy of financial instruments by producers and distributors of investment products was introduced with the first Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID). In conditions of high inflation, it is justified to assess the suitability of investment products in terms of protection of the real value of capital. Purpose of the article: The research aims to indicate which groups (or subgroups) of open-ended investment funds (distinguished according to the investment policy) were suitable for an investor whose financial goal was to protect the real value of capital in the period of rising inflation and increased interest rates in Poland. Research methods: Nominal and real HPY from funds managed by Polish investment fund companies (TFI) and foreign funds were examined in two investment horizons: one-year (1 May 2021 – 1 May 2022) and half-year (1 December 2021 – 1 May 2022). Two research hypotheses were formulated: 1) commodity funds were the suitable funds for the investor, whose aim was to protect the real value of capital in the analyzed period; 2) other types of funds (than commodity funds) were not suitable for an investor whose purpose was to protect the real value of capital. Two main criteria were used to assess the suitability of the (sub)group of funds. For an investor aiming for complete protection of the real value of capital, these were: 1) the percentage of funds with non-negative real HPY and 2) the minimum value of real HPY in the (sub)group. For an investor who only needs partial real capital value protection, these were: the percentage of funds with a positive nominal HPY and the minimum value of the nominal HPY in the (sub)group. Main findings: The first research hypothesis has been positively verified. If the investor’s goal was total protection of the real value of capital in each researched horizon, the second research hypothesis can be considered positively verified. However, if the suitability criteria do not have to be met for each of the horizons studied, or if the investor’s satisfactory objective was partial protection of the real value of capital, then the second hypothesis should be rejected.

In recent years, the several causative factors of tree decline have caught our attention in the over 40-year-old University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). Identical tree species decline and causing factors increasingly became persistently epidemic on environmental trees across Niger Delta. Despite the global growing demands on tree landscape systems and new concepts of biosecurity needs, which today expect greater responsibility from different societal groups to align these demands with operational utilization of suitable trees hopefully native species, Nigeria still hugely rely on exotic species for its landscape systems. While a plethora of articles have been aired and documented on Niger Delta contemporary issues in local and international debate convergences, the Oil Exploration and Human Developmental Projects (OEHDPs) effects dominate. This study provided utilization based information on Stress-Pests Infestations (SPIs) factors and challenges related to alien ornamental trees in Niger Delta where anaerobic soil condition perennially exists. Soil moisture stress has been recognized as formidable major threat to the safety of exotic (alien or non native species) trees and predisposing susceptible ornamental tree species to fungi invasions and subsequent infestation of living trees by termites, beetles and of recent weaver birds. To reduce the SPIs effectively, and improve human inhabitations, this study stresses the urgent policy need for a paradigm shift from landscape design utilizing alien tree species to the massive use of indigenous trees species native to Niger Delta region.

Geospatial and multi-criteria decision-making techniques are applied to process and analyse datasets for determining suitable areas for multiple utilityscale solar photovoltaic farms in the city of Akure, Ondo State, southwestern Nigeria. Data processed include local electric power distribution system data, Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission elevation data, Landsat 8 and solar global horizontal irradiance. Multi-criteria decision-making techniques adopted are the analytical hierarchy process, reclassification, and overlay. These techniques were carried out considering criteria for siting solar photovoltaic farms. Criteria considered in this study are climate, topography, economic, environmental impact operational and technical while sub-criteria are solar global horizontal irradiance, slope, proximity and land cover. The outcome of the study shows that the study area covering a total extent of ~33,200 ha, 15%, 8%, 13% and 64% are highly suitable, suitable, moderately suitable, and unsuitable respectively for siting utility-scale solar photovoltaic farms within the study area. The study reveals the potential of multiple utility-scale solar photovoltaic farms in the study area. However, the proportions of areas suitable for solar photovoltaic farms are quite lower compared to findings from similar studies conducted in northwestern Nigeria. The study recommends solar photovoltaic sources as an alternative energy source in and around the study area.

To determine the scope of application of technical diagnostics, it is advisable to analyze the entire period of existence of any object and its suitability for the performance of established tasks, selection of the situations in which consideration of diagnostic measures are necessary.

Dane geologiczne są jednym z wielu elementów interdyscyplinarnych opracowań dotyczących analizy problemów i kierunków zagospodarowania przestrzennego różnych jednostek administracyjnych. Szczególne znaczenie w wyznaczaniu terenów pod zabudowę mają informacje o rodzajach gruntów oraz stopniu ich zawodnienia. Uzupełnione danymi opisującymi procesy geodynamiczne występujące na danym obszarze oraz pozostałe uwarunkowania przyrodnicze są podstawą tworzenia różnorodnych opracowań geologiczno-inżynierskich. Zintegrowany system informacji przestrzennej ArcGis – CommunityViz umożliwia efektywną implementację tej wiedzy w celu ułatwienia podejmowania odpowiedzialnych decyzji planistycznych.
Geological data are one of many interdisciplinary elements of reports taking into consideration problems and trends of spatial planning for different administrative divisions. Information about ground types and ground water table levels are essential for creating land suitability maps. They are, enriched with geodynamic and other environmental data, relevant components of geological-engineering analyses. Integrated ArcGis – CommunityViz spatial information system enables effective implementation of this knowledge to make pertinent spatial decisions.

The article describes the basic problems of competence as the main factor determining the direction and pace of one’s career. The authors characterize the notion of competence and present its components. They describe how to measure competence and present the most desired one by employers. The article also discusses the issue of job analysis and the design of job description.
