Adequate nutrition is one of the most important factors of a good state of health. The objective of the study was recognition of the mode of nutrition and behaviours related with concern about silhouette among students from the Ukraine. Materials and Method. The study was conducted in 2013 among 2,125 students, including 1,291 females and 834 males, from 12 study specialties at the National University in Lutsk. The method of a diagnostic survey was applied with the use of a questionnaire. The study showed significant differences in the regularity of consumption of meals to the benefit of males. Females, in their behaviours, more frequently avoided eating, felt fear of gaining weight, and lost control over eating. With respect to behaviours related with concern about silhouette, females significantly more often applied exercises in order to reduce body weight, while males in order to gain body weight. A positive behaviour in both sexes was a trace application of drugs and other pharmacological means to improve own silhouette.

The subject of marketing activity of students’ governments hasn’t been present in scientific literature up till now. There have been only few publications devoted to chosen areas of functioning of students’ organizations. However, they generally skipped the promotional dimension. In association with this, the goal of this article is partially filling the existing gap by highlighting the factors which determine the effects achieved when students’ governments communicate with the environment. On the basis of own participatory observations and experiences gathered during many years of participating in the work of the student government of a Polish university, the authors have identified three main determinants of efficient marketing communication of students’ governments. Among these three factors there are: the attitude and engagement of students, the choice of contents and promotion tools (forming the system of communicating with the environment), the available financial resources. Each of the three mentioned elements has been presented in detail. Among others, the typology of people engaged in promotional activity of students’ organizations has been presented. Also, the contents that should be conveyed to diversified groups in the environment of students’ governments have been defined. Taking into consideration the fact that this paper is the first work of its kind devoted to the promotional activity of students’ governments, it serves as an introduction to the subject areas and may constitute a basis for deeper exploration of the subject in future theoretical and research works.
Tematyka działalności marketingowej samorządów studenckich nie była do tej pory obecna w literaturze naukowej. Ukazały się nieliczne publikacje poświęcone wybranym obszarom funkcjonowania organizacji zrzeszających studentów, jednak z pominięciem wymiaru promocyjnego. W związku z tym celem niniejszego artykułu jest częściowe wypełnienie istniejącej luki przez wskazanie czynników determinujących efekty uzyskiwane za sprawą komunikowania się samorządów studenckich z otoczeniem. Na podstawie własnych obserwacji uczestniczących oraz doświadczeń, zebranych podczas wieloletniego partycypowania w pracach samorządu jednej z polskich szkół wyższych, autorzy zidentyfikowali trzy główne determinanty skuteczniej komunikacji marketingowej samorządów studenckich. Do tej triady zaliczyli: postawę oraz zaangażowanie studentów, dobór treści oraz narzędzi promocji (tworzących system komunikowania się z otoczeniem), dostępne zasoby finansowe. Każdy z trzech wskazanych elementów został szczegółowo przedstawiony, w tym m.in. zaproponowano typologię osób angażujących się w aktywność promocyjną organizacji studenckich, jak również określono treści, jakie powinny być przekazywane zróżnicowanym grupom w otoczeniu samorządów. Ze względu na to, iż niniejsze opracowanie jest pierwszym poświęconym aktywności promocyjnej samorządów studenckich, ma ono charakter wprowadzający w tę tematykę i może stanowić podstawę do jej głębszego eksplorowania w ramach przyszłych prac teoretycznych oraz badawczych.

Vaccination against seasonal influenza is recommended for everyone older than 6 months. It is underlined, that healthcare workers and students may contribute to nosocomial influenza transmission, however, flu vaccination rate among medical stuff remains low. The aim of this study was the assessment of knowledge of flu vaccination recommendations and compliance with them among medical and dental students in conjunction with analysis of potential differences according to the type of faculty. The study was conducted from 10th to 16th October 2017 with the use of anonymous survey among 203 healthcare students of Wroclaw Medical University (131 medical students, 72 dentistry students). The questionnaire was divided into 3 sections: demographic data, vaccination status, knowledge of recommendations. Obtained data showed that declared vaccination rate in season 2016/2017 was 15.82%, and 13.92% in 2015/2016. Although we observed that influenza vaccination coverage was higher among dental students, the difference was statistically insignificant. Knowledge of recommendations was good, 78% of students knew, that influenza vaccination is recommended for healthcare workers, and 73% answered, that it also concerns healthcare students. Significant differences in identification of groups, for which flu vaccination is especially recommended, were observed. Dental students more frequently chose all correct answers (p-value 0,006). Also sources of knowledge differed (p-value 0,007), medical students more often declared using professional medical journals, while dental students more frequently indicated impact of family. Although the knowledge of recommendations for influenza vaccination is rather good among students, vaccination coverage remains low. Identification of gaps in students' knowledge and differences according to faculty, may suggest directions in which activities promoting regular vaccination against influenza should concentrate.

The ageing of people is one of the most important social issues of the modern world. This is a global phenomenon, concerning all regions and almost all countries. This problem pertains also to Poland and Germany. The following article is based on empirical studies whose subject were the social competencies profiles of Polish and German students preparing for caregiving of the elderly people. The method of the study was a diagnostic survey, whereas the research instruments used in the study were PROKOS. Social Competencies Profile by A. Matczak and K. Martowska and The questionnaire for the analysis of motivation to work with elderly people for students of social wellbeing majors (self-constructed questionnaire). Research studies were carried out between October and December 2018. In Poland, they involved students from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin and the University of Rzeszów, while in Germany, students from universities of Münster, Osnabrück, Bielefeld and Wolfsburg. German students (200 people) constituted the main group, whereas the comparative group consisted of 167 Polish students. The results of the research demonstrated significant statistic differences in the range of all distinguished types of social competencies between the examined Polish and German groups of students (p < 0,001).

The text contains an analysis of the competence of a special education teacher, with particular emphasis on the competence of one working as a teacher assistant with blind and visually impaired students. It attempts to answer the question of what competence a teacher assistant should have. On the one hand, this competence must be a response to the current needs of students with visual impairments, their teachers and parents. In line with the current approach to inclusive education, the teacher assistant who works with visually impaired students should be equipped with a whole array of competences, especially a number of highly specialised ones. On the other hand, taking into account e.g. creative and ethical competences, universities educating future teachers of the kind are not able to equip graduates with full competences.

The situation of disabled students in Polish schools and universities has improved over the last years, however it is still not perfect. As NIK’s audit showed, in many places barriers still exist, which makes it impossible for the disabled to function in the same way as able students do. Problems stem from the construction of buildings, which are not adjusted to the needs of the disabled, unfriendly technical facilities and difficulties with accessing the full educational offer. Despite these shortages, the majority of the schools have not fully used the funds they receive for current support for the disabled.

The goal of this study was to determine the preferences concerning Facebook usage by university students in Poland and the Czech Republic regarding their gender and nationality. This study aimed also to discover the relation between the need to be popular on Facebook and three key factors: the number of Facebook friends, activity on Facebook and perceived enjoyment during this activity. To get necessary data, multiple research tools were developed – a questionnaire consisting of four sections and a 12-item questionnaire measuring the level of the need for popularity. Results show that there is no significant differences in the background of Facebook usage between Polish and Czech students. However, there is a statistically significant correlation between the need for popularity and two factors: the number of friends (r = .501) and the level of perceived enjoyment in using Facebook (r = .401). The results suggest that participants feel pleasure while undertaking different actions on Facebook and treat Facebook as a way to increase their perceived popularity.

Introduction. Eating preferences depend on the respondent’s age. Healthy diet determines the health condition. Aim. The aim of the research was to analyze nutritional preferences of students of the nursing faculty and determine the correspondence between students’ age and healthy diet. Material and methods. The research was conducted among Bachelor degree nursing students. The diagnostic survey method was applied, whereas the Health Behaviour Inventory served as a research tool. Results. The research has shownthat age affects students’ food preferences. Best food preferences were declared by students aged 31 or more, slightly worse behaviour in this respect refers to students aged 19 or younger and to those aged 20-25. Healthy eating habits included: eating vegetables and fruit, wholemeal bread, appropriate nutrition. However, a high level of sugar, salt, animal fat and canned salty food consumption among the youngest group of students(aged 19 and under or 20-25 years) is a matter of concern.
Wstęp. Cukrzyca typu 2 jest chorobą przewlekłą, rozwija się często bezobjawowo, nie wykazując problemów klinicznych, natomiast często po rozpoznaniu towarzyszą już jej powikłania mikronaczyniowe i makronaczyniowe. Przewlekła choroba zmienia obraz świata, przewartościowuje życie większości osób, które zmuszone są do zmiany swoich życiowych celów. W zależności od zaistniałej sytuacji każdy człowiek inaczej reaguje na chorobę. Jedni ludzie akceptują ten stan, inni nie mogą pogodzić się z faktem choroby. Cel. Celem badań było wskazanie zależności między zaakceptowaniem przez pacjentów cukrzycy typu 2, a jakością ich życia. Jednocześnie na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań można ocenić przystosowanie się do życia z chorobą. Materiał i metody. W badaniach wzięło udział 80 osób ze zdiagnozowaną cukrzycą typu 2. Byli to pacjenci hospitalizowani w Oddziale Chorób Wewnętrznych i zarejestrowani w Poradni Diabetologicznej Zespołu Opieki Zdrowotnej w Chełmnie. Jako narzędzie badawcze zastosowano Kwestionariusz Oceny Jakości Życia SF-36 oraz kwestionariusz AIS. Na przeprowadzenie badań uzyskano zgodę powyższej placówki oraz Komisji Bioetycznej. Wyniki. Średni wartość punktowa jakości życia wyniosła wśród badanych - 78,64 punktu. Wynik ten wskazuje, że badane to grupa o przeciętnym poziomie jakości życia, na granicy poziomu wysokiego. Największy negatywny wpływ na poziom jakości życia badanych miało ogólne poczucie zdrowia. Ze wszystkich obszarów akceptacji choroby, najwyżej ocenili badani poczucie - myślę, że ludzie przebywający ze mną są często zakłopotani z powodu mojej choroby - średnia3,74 punktu oraz mój stan zdrowia sprawia, że nie czuję się człowiekiem pełnowartościowym - średnia 3,64 punktu. Wnioski. 1. Pacjenci wykazujący wyższy stopień akceptacji lepiej funkcjonują w sferze emocjonalnej i fizycznej, a co za tym idzie mogą realizować się w sferze zawodowej oraz społecznej. 2. Pacjenci wykazujący wyższy stopień akceptacji choroby łatwiej przystosowali się do ograniczeń narzuconych przez chorobę. 3. Pacjenci wykazujący wyższy stopień akceptacji choroby czują się ludźmi pełnowartościowymi.

Aim: To present own thoughts on the processes that accompany fulfilling professorial careers at universities. Methods: Referring to personal experiences both at and out of the university, and drawing on own achievements. Results: Based on own experience, the author presented forecasts related to the “profession” of professor. The author puts forward the thesis that education has a special role to play and therefore should be independent, with less bureaucracy, giving opportunities for creative work and devoting more time to students. Conclusions: The analysis of the topic shows that there is a need to review and suggest assessments to be applied by students of pedagogy and related fields. It also provides an opportunity to generate new topics, especially concerning recent research.

This paper presents an anthropometric database of high school and university students from Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia. Forty-one high school participants (21 males and 20 females), 13–17 years old, and 143 university students (74 males and 69 females) took part in the study. Twenty-one static body dimensions were measured. The greatest mean differences in the anthropometric data between male and female high school students were found in the sitting elbow height. In addition, a comparison of anthropometric data of male and female university students showed that data for males and females were significantly different, except for buttock–popliteal length, sitting elbow height and thigh clearance. The primary aim of this study was to develop an anthropometric database that could be used as a primary reference in designing products, devices and equipment for ergonomic learning environments.

The article discusses a range of common problems faced by international students while studying in Russia, drawing on the example of Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg). Analysis of the sociological data has shown that international students have to deal with the following adaptation barriers: organizational barriers which students face when joining the educational process; socio-cultural barriers which mostly stem from the lack of language proficiency; getting accustomed to daily routines of living on the campus; informational barriers caused by a low awareness of the conditions of life and studying in Russia (Russian cultural norms and values, the climate of the Urals, etc.). The article reveals a correlation between the specificity of the countries international students come from and the main stages of their adaptation, providing guidelines for improvement of international student support at Ural Federal University.

The article deals with the problem of error-oriented motivation of Turkish students during the adaptation process to a foreign university (on an example of a Ukrainian university). Research was conducted on two samples of first year students: 45 Turkish and 61 Ukrainian students. An error-oriented motivation questionnaire and survey were used to identify strategies for student response to mistakes and the main problems of adaptation. It was determined that Turkish students are more likely to use a Learning from mistakes strategy and are more exposed to such adaptation problems as communication problems with the administration, difficulties in adapting to the new social environment, and emotional problems.

For a couple of years already Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Cracow University has been hosting students from various parts of the world; and Ukrainian students are the most numerous . The growing number can bring, beside the undoubted benefits, not only of financial kind, conflicts on the grounds of culture differences, language, customs and traditions. This problem does not only apply to potential conflicts between Polish students and those coming from such exotic countries as African or Arabic ones but also conflicts with students from more familiar cultures. This article presents close analysis of the study carried out among Polish and Ukrainian students of Cracow university by means of qualitative and quantitative methods. The study shows the mutual image and stereotypes of both groups which may have influence on the process of academic integration of the above mentioned respondents.

Physical activity is one of the important pillars helping to maintain well-being and health. The aim of the article was to try to identify the directions of changes in students' attitudes towards physical activity between 2015 and 2023, including the aspect of monitoring movement and exercise using modern technologies. The declared physical activity of the students was analysed, along with the need to monitor movement using electronic devices. A shortened version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used as the research tool. The questionnaire was modified by adding questions on monitoring physical activity. Analysis of the results shows that the declared physical activity has changed over the analysed time period. In 2015, an average of 74.5% of the students in the studied faculties declared their activity as high, while in 2023, 38.5% of the students did so. In 2015, an average of 25.5% of the students surveyed declared their physical activity, while in 2023, an average activity was declared by 20% of the students surveyed. Low activity was declared by 1% in 2015 and by an average of 41.5% of students in 2023. There was no determinant effect of the gender of the surveyed students on the level of physical activity. An increase in the number of students using modern technology to monitor their own physical activity was found over the analysed time period.
