The testing of dynamic balance involves tests that assess the muscle control of spatial changes of the position of the centre of gravity over the base of support. The purpose of this work was to determine the structure of the Y-balance test and its accuracy based on the measurements of strength performance of the muscles acting on the knee joint, as well as the flexibility and balance in boys aged 14 years. Methods: The study included 43 schoolboys regularly participating in physical education lessons. The examination of postural stability was conducted with the use of the Y-balance test. The measurements of muscle strength and of resistance to fatigue of the extensors and flexors of knee joints in isometric contraction were performed on a measurement stand in a standard position with the use of tensometric sensors. The measurement of mobility range of the lower extremity joints was performed according to the SFTR. The examination of balance was performed with the use of the modified ‘Flamingo balance test’. Results: The factor structure of the Y-balance test results for the left and right lower extremities is similar and includes five principal independent factors that characterise the structure of analysed variables. They explain 76% and 74% of communality in total for the left and the right extremity, respectively. Conclusions: The extracted factor structure points to a hybrid structure of the Y-balance test and shows its accuracy in the measurements of the lower limb joint mobility and strength performance of knee joint extensors.

Opis:
The object of the paper is to build a numerical model of a railway wagon and perform statics calculation. The examined railway wagon is designed to transport interchangeable containers in ACTS (Abroll Container Transport System). The essential matter of such reloading is placing the container on a special rotating platform, which enables horizontal reloading of the load on the truck. The carriage is equipped with a flat frame cooperating with two bogies and three mobile platforms rotated in respect to central knots in order to simplify the process of loading and unloading of the interchangeable containers. A numerical model was verified and validated by experimental and numerical tests. Particular attention was paid to the support model in a contact place of the frame-carriage and bogies. The paper presents the results of static calculations prepared in accordance with relevant standards for this type of construction. The numerical model was loaded according to the requirements of PN-EN12663 standard specified for the F-I vehicle and BN-77/3532-40 standard. The finite element method was used for numerical analysis. A discreet FEM model was developed with the aid of MSC Patran pre-processor, while MSC Nastran code was applied for simulations. The results of calculations are presented by displacement and stress characteristic. Strength of construction was determined based on results.

An accurate way to predict the behaviour of an RF analogue circuit is presented. A lot of effort is required to eliminate the inaccuracies that may generate the deviation between simulation and measurement. Efficient use of computer-aided design and incorporation of as many physical effects as possible overcomes this problem. Improvement of transistor modelling is essential, but there are many other unsolved problems affecting the accuracy of RF analogue circuit modelling. In this paper, the way of selection of accurate transistor model and the extraction of parasitic elements from the physical layout, as well as implementation to the circuit simulation will be presented using two CMOS circuit examples: an amplifier and a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). New simulation technique, electro-magnetic (EM)-co-simulation is introduced.

A new T-type connection structure consisting of composite sandwich plates, reinforced cores and adhesive was proposed for the construction of lightweight ships to resolve connection problems between bulkheads and decks of composite lightweight ship superstructures. Based on the design principles and mechanical properties of composite structures, the mechanical behaviour of the structure under a dangerous loading condition was investigated. In addition, the ultimate bearing capacities and damage modes were examined, the results of which demonstrated that the strength of the structure is weak, and that the adhesive and reinforced core between the face plate and the web plate is the primary weakness of the structure. A numerical simulation method was verified using the results of the mechanical tests, and five characteristic paths at the connection area were established. The stresses and displacements along the five paths were calculated using the numerical method. Then, variations in the geometric parameter and the strength and weight of the connection were summarised. The optimal angle of the adhesive bonding area is approximately 60°, which supports the optimal design and practical application of the lightweight ship adhesive-bonded connection structure.

The considerable influence of the soil backfill properties and that of the method of compacting it on the stiffness of soilsteel structures is characteristic of the latter. The above factors (exhibiting randomness) become apparent in shell deformation measurements conducted during construction and proof test loading. A definition of soil-shell structure stiffness, calculated on the basis of shell deflection under the service load, is proposed in the paper. It is demonstrated that the stiffness is the inverse of the deflection influence function used in structural mechanics. The moving load methodology is shown to be useful for testing, since it makes it possible to map the shell deflection influence line also in the case of group loads (concentrated forces), as in bridges. The analyzed cases show that the shell’s span, geometry (static scheme) and the height of earth fill influence the stiffness of the structure. The soilsteel structure’s characteristic parameter in the form of stiffness k is more suitable for assessing the quality of construction works than the proposed in code geometric index ω applied to beam structures. As shown in the given examples, parameter k is more effective than stiffness parameter λ used to estimate the deformation of soil-steel structures under construction. Although the examples concern railway structures, the methodology proposed in the paper is suitable also for road bridges.

Magnetorheological elastomers have properties that can be altered by magnetic field. Many materials were invented more than 30 years ago, but their development and improvement over the past three decades has led to new, more varied uses of these adaptable materials. The main goal of the paper is to present and investigate the application of a magnetorheological elastomer in an aviation structure. The potential advantage of this solution is a possibility to adjust the shape of the wing during the flight by altering the magnetic field strength, which in turn causes deflection of a magnetorheological elastomer. For the purpose of the investigations, an E214 aerofoil has been selected. The original, carbon composite model set a reference value of both lift and drag coefficient for an E214 profile. A thin layer of magnetorheological elastomer was placed on the upper side of the reversed wing. In order to fully understand the effect of such structural change on an aerial profile, the new research stand was designed and manufactured for the purpose of this research in the Institute of Aviation. Experiments were conducted due to evaluate the influence of magnetorheological elastomer on the overall performance. Results of investigations were presented and discussed.

The effect of plastic deformation process on the dissolution rate of biocompatible Mg alloys was investigated. Two biocompatible MgLi1Ca0,2Zn1 and MgLi1Ca1Zn1 alloys were selected for the study. The alloys were deformed on a 100T press at a temperature of 350°C by conventional extrusion and by the equal channel angular extrusion process (ECAE). The grain size analysis showed a high degree of the grain refinement from approximately 110 mm in the initial state to 2.8 mm after the 3rd pass of the ECAE process. Compared to as-cast state, the degree of strengthening has increased after plastic forming. The results of biodegradation tests have shown a significant increase in corrosion rate after both conventional extrusion and ECAE, although after subsequent ECAE passes, this rate was observed to slightly decrease in the MgLi1Ca1Zn1 alloy. Based on the results of macro- and microstructure examinations, the corrosion progress in samples after the extrusion process was described.

Foundation of the buildings on the loessial soil is often associated only with difficulties resulting from the possibility of the collapse of the ground. For these reason, loess is too often unfairly disqualified as the construction subsoil in spite of its good strength and strain parameters. Thanks to continuous development of research and publications of the results, reliable data regarding loess are spread and, as a consequence, loess becomes more and more common soil used in the geotechnical engineering. Loess collapsibility has been studied since the middle of the 20th century, nevertheless, only the computer techniques and specialist laboratory and microstructural tests, that have been developed from the end of last century, helped us to find an answer to the important questions regarding the occurrence of this phenomenon. Detailed mechanisms that cause sudden loess volumetric reduction due to humidity and load, and the elements that affects the collapsibility are still studied. Furthermore, varied technics are researched, including in-situ tests, which allow estimating the risk of collapse, as well as the methods of its elimination. The aim of this paper is to systematize the directions of current studies of European loess collapsibility and to indicate their most significant results. The review was made on the basis of the scientific publications published in the Polish and international journals as well as the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) Web of Science database.

In today's world, innovationality is synonymous with modernity, development, good governance and strategic thinking. The country 's economy and whole of society should be innovative. The research and development process and the results of the work would be reviewed from the commercialization perspective. The all innovative projects should finish on thefree market, but majority of them end their lives at the research and development stage. The idea of spin-off corporations has to serve the subordination of the entire innovative project realization cycle to the vision of its commercialization. Innovative society and economy require implementation of both large and small innovations, created in large, medium and small R & D programs. In economically leading countries, the mega-programs play an important role in innovationality. small innovation programs are usually created by small research teams and individual inventors. For the balanced development of the country's economy, there is a needfor the variety, both small and large innovation programs. In the absence of an effective opportunity to realize one's own Polish mega-programs, it is worth to consider the mega-program named: ,,Provision of services on the International research market" as a Polish specialty. For 10 years the Warsaw's Institute of Aviation pursues this strategy. The Institute of Aviation employs about 800 specialists, which perform the advanced research of the new materials and designs for the new gas turbine engines and combustion systems.

Opis:
The almost unlimited possibilities of modern computational tools create the temptation to study phenomena related to the operation of engineering objects exclusively using complex numerical simulations. However, the fascination with multi-parametric complex computational models, whose solutions are obtained using iterative techniques, may result in qualitative discrepancies between reality and virtual simulations. The need to verify on real objects the conclusions obtained from numerical calculations is therefore indisputable. The enormous cost and uniqueness of large-scale test stands significantly limit the possibility of conducting tests under real conditions. The solution may be an experiment focused on testing features relevant to the given task, while minimising the dimensions of the objects under consideration. Such conditions led to the concept of conducting a series of field experiments to verify the effectiveness of prototype track components, which were developed using numerical simulations to reduce the noise caused by passing trains. The main aim of this study is to examine the acoustic efficiency of prototype porous concrete sound absorbing panels, in relation to the ballasted and ballastless track structures. Presented results of the proposed unconventional experiments carried out on an improvised test stand using the recorded acoustic signals confirm the effectiveness of the developed vibroacoustic isolators.

The aim of the study presented in the paper was to examine the impact of changes related to aircraft modernization, the dynamic properties of an aircraft on the basis of five cases studied experimentally. Which changes in the dynamics of an aircraft structure occurred as a result of modernization can be experimentally tested by resonance tests. For this purpose, resonance tests should be carried out before the aircraft modernization and after its completion. In order to mapping the conditions of free flight the objects were suspended flexibly. The electrodynamics actuators were used to induce vibrations, piezoelectric transducers were used for the measurement of vibrations. The size and phase of extortion forces and their application points were selected individually for each resonance in order to get the best separation of it. The first stage of the study was based on recordings the frequency - amplitude characteristics. The second stage of the study was the Identification of individual frequencies and mode shapes of each resonance, which was implemented by choosing the size and the proportion of mutual phase shifts between the extortion forces. In the selection the criteria based on minimizing the phase difference of vibrations measured at several points of the structure were used. The final stage of this study was to register the frequency and shapes mode of the tested resonance and the resonance generalized masses and damping coefficients.

The paper presents results of examination of unalloyed cast iron with diversified structure of the metallic matrix carried out by means of the scratch method. The research work was carried out with cast sample plates and with castings superficially remelted by means of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) method. The test was carried out with load force of 5 N. Parameters such as the coefficient of friction, penetration depth, and acoustic emission were analysed.

W artykule przedstawiono nową metodę badań zezwalającą w bardzo krótkim czasie na rozpoznanie stanu elementów całego szybu i wytypowanie najbardziej zużytych, które można w dalszej kolejności poddać szczegółowym badaniom. Istotą metody jest badanie własności dynamicznych konstrukcji z wykorzystaniem testu impulsowego, polegającego na pobudzeniu konstrukcji do drgań i pomiarze odpowiedzi na wymuszenie.

This article presents the results of research into calcareous waste from the production process of oxide propylene. The obtained results show a considerable chemical diversity of calcareous waste with a predominant percentage share of Ca, C and Cl, which are the products of the process. It was shown that the share of calcium bonded in CaCO3 was over 20%, which is indicative of the secondary carbonisation process taking place in the waste. The morphological and structural analyses revealed that the grains had a surface area above 12% and a percentage porosity in the range of 25-35%. The reactivity test made it possible to classify calcareous waste as a material for sorbents of 'satisfactory' sorption properties, insufficient to be effectively used in the power sector. For the stored waste to be reused, it is necessary to improve its sorption abilities through the application of a properly selected activation method.

Opis:
Due to their excellent performance, composite materials are increasingly used in the marine field. It is of great importance to study the low-velocity impact performance of composite laminates to ensure the operational safety of composite ship structures. Herein, low-velocity drop-weight impact tests were carried out on 12 types of GRP laminates with different layup forms. The impact-induced mechanical response characteristics of the GRP laminates were obtained. Based on the damage model and stiffness degradation criterion of the composite laminates, a low-velocity impact simulation model was proposed by writing a VUMAT subroutine and using the 3D Hashin failure criterion and the cohesive zone model. The fibre failure, matrix failure and interlaminar failure of the composite structures could be determined by this model. The predicted mechanical behaviours of the composite laminates with different layup forms were verified through comparisons with the impact test results, which revealed that the simulation model can well characterise the low-velocity impact process of the composite laminates. According to the damage morphologies of the impact and back sides, the influence of the different layup forms on the low-velocity impact damage of the GRP laminates was summarised. The layup form had great effects on the damage of the composite laminates. Especially, the outer 2‒3 layers play a major role in the damage of the impact and the back side. For the same impact energy, the damage areas are larger for the back side than for the impact side, and there is a corresponding layup form to minimise the damage area. Through analyses of the time response relationships of impact force, impactor displacement, rebound velocity and absorbed energy, a better layup form of GRP laminates was obtained. Among the 12 plates, the maximum impact force, absorbed energy and damage area of the plate P4 are the smallest, and it has better impact resistance than the others, and can be more in line with the requirements of composite ships. It is beneficial to study the low-velocity impact performance of composite ship structures.

In this work the problem connected with an improvement of the road safety through implementation of additional elements absorbing the hitting energy is taken into consideration. The experimental results of a basic absorbing element of the glass epoxy composite are presented. The results of these tests will serve for the construction of a reliable numerical model of a panel of protective elements. The coincidence between the experimental and numerical results is also proved, showing that introduced approach to the modelling of the process of the progressive destruction and the energy absorption by composite elements is not only properly assumed but is very promising for the future. Efforts, which lead to increase the amount of absorbed energy need actions, directed to improving absorbing energy properties of used elements. Therefore, the received results will serve as guidelines for elaboration the methodology of the research structures of that type and also could be used in further research works within the scope of increasing the road security. In the article it is also proved that there is the necessity to conduct the series of comparative experiments and also tests verifying numerical studies at loading speeds, which can be compared with ones in reality, e.g. crash test or shock wave of an explosion. The validated, in such way, method of numerical simulations enables the limitation of costly and long-lasting research of real objects.

Qualitative analysis has revealed specificity of the petition and intercession prayer and has called attention to association of location to specific types of prayer.

The article presents selected results of strength simulation tests of the load-bearing structure and coupling-buffer devices of a third-generation rail-road tractor built from the CLAAS ARION 610 agricultural tractor. Tests for the extraordinary load resistance of components of the front and rear train system were carried out in the aspect of the ability to absorb longitudinal loads and shocks in extreme conditions of tractor operation on the track. It has been shown that the tested components of coupler-buffer devices meet the strength requirements at assumed extreme loads (300 kN compression, 150 kN tensile), and after introducing a modernized front axle support they can withstand a compressive strength of up to 370 kN. The second part of the article will be published in the next issue of the quarterly journal Rail Vehicles.
W artykule zaprezentowano wybrane wyniki symulacyjnych badań wytrzymałości struktury nośnej urządzeń pociągowo-zderznych ciągnika szynowo-drogowego trzeciej generacji zbudowanego na bazie ciągnika rolniczego CLAAS ARION 610. Przeprowadzono badania wytrzymałości na obciążenia nadzwyczajne części składowych przedniego i tylnego układu pociągowego w aspekcie zdolności konstrukcji do przejmowania obciążeń wzdłużnych w ekstremalnych warunkach pracy ciągnika na torze. Wykazano, że badane elementy składowe urządzeń pociągowo-zderznych spełniają wymagania wytrzymałościowe przy założonych obciążeniach nadzwyczajnych (ściskanie 300 kN, rozciąganie 150 kN), a po wprowadzeniu zmodernizowanego wspornika przedniej osi osiągają wytrzymałość na ściskanie do 370 kN. Druga część artykułu zostanie opublikowana w kolejnym numerze kwartalnika Pojazdy Szynowe.

W artykule podano definicję charakterystyki kątowej momentu statycznego silnika skokowego i zamieszczono klasyfikację stanowisk do badań charakterystyk kątowych. Opisano zbudowaną w Politechnice Warszawskiej automatyczną stację pomiarową do badania charakterystyk statycznych silników skokowych, skonstruowaną z wykorzystaniem wieloletnich doświadczeń autorów w dziedzinie badania właściwości mikromaszyn elektrycznych. Opisano schemat budowy stanowiska pomiarowego, podano konfigurację systemu pomiarowego. Scharakteryzowano program komputerowy do sterowania pomiarami i prowadzenia akwizycji wyników oraz ich graficznej wizualizacji. Na zakończenie zamieszczono przykładowe charakterystyki silników otrzymane opisanym urządzeniem i ich interpretację.
In the introduction of the paper there is justified a need of using modern and effective test stands for studying stepper motors with regard to automation of their manufacturing processes and mass production of these motors. A definition of static torque/rotor position charac-teristics of a stepper motor as well as a definition of its static stability zone and angular deviation of the rotor position while loaded with an external torque are given. There is included a classification of test stands for studying angular characteristics of stepper motors (Fig. 1), and there is described an automatic measurement station for studying static characteristics of stepper motors, built at the Warsaw University of Technology, designed on the basis of a long-standing experience of the authors in the field of studying properties of electric micromachines. A schematic of a structure of the measurement station is shown (Fig. 2), and a configuration of the measuring system is presented (Fig. 3). In Tab. 1 the basic functional parameters describing the device are collected and its essential metrological features are given. In the further part of the paper there is characterized a computer program for controlling measurements and performing data acquisition related to results of the measurements as well as their graphical visualization. An algorithm of the program operation is also presented (Fig. 5). At the end there are presented exemplary static torque/rotor position characteristics of a hybrid motor supplied in a standard way (Fig. 6) and not supplied (no current flow) - Fig. 7, obtained by means of the described system. The summary describes shortly the content of the paper and provides interpretation of the obtained results of measurements. The references consist of an extensive list of publications related to the problem of studying characteristics of stepper motors, issued over a period of many years.
