Opis:
The paper provides the theoretical background of a hybrid method to be applied in engineering evaluation of sound radiation by vibrating surface elements. The intensity vector is obtained at a selected point in the acoustic medium surrounding the vibrating element. For convenience, certain assumptions are made for the purpose of far-field analysis, which makes the method allow for estimation of radiated acoustic pressure. The method is the verified experimentally. Vibrations of structural elements can be predicted theoretically using finite element approach or from the measurement of vibrations of real structures.

Samples of Fe61Co10Y8Cu1B20 alloy were investigated in the ‘approach to ferromagnetic saturation’ region by using the Kronmüller method. The amorphous material was obtained by radially cooling the molten alloy under a protective atmosphere of inert gas. Following this manufacturing process, static magnetic hysteresis loops were measured for samples, before and after a controlled isothermal annealing process, using a LakeShore vibrating magnetometer (VSM). From analysis of the primary magnetization curves, the distribution of structural defects and the average exchange distance for these defects were determined.

Soil amendment usage can substantially modify soil structural and hydraulic properties, with the aim of improving its water, air and nutrition management along with crop growth. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the physical changes in soil through different plant growing stages caused by biochar addition to silt loam soil. This research focused on changes in structural stability, and macro- and microaggregate stability. The soils were amended with different amounts of biochar (control with 0, BC0.5 with 0.5%, BC2.5 with 2.5%, and BC5.0 with 5.0% biochar, by weight). Capsicum annuum L. were planted at a two-four leaf stage. Soil samples were taken at 6, 10 and 12 weeks after planting. The results showed increasing macroaggregate stability values with increasing biochar addition; however, higher values were also detectable in control treatments over time. Increased microaggregate stability values were observed during the plant maturing phase and the decrease, which occurred during fruit development was more pronounced. The largest microaggregate stability value was observed in the case of BC2.5 among all treatments, which corresponded better to plant growth rather than to the amount of added biochar. It was also found that the laser diffraction method is a suitable alternative technique to the sieve-pipette method for analysing biochar and biochar-amended soil particle size distribution and structure.

The article presents an assessment of the productibility of hybrid nodes. The hybrid node is a new structural element the implementation of which causes numerous (especially technological) problems that need to be solved. The most important element of the hybrid node is the socalled connector, the choice of which is a complex and difficult problem. It involves taking into account many aspects (constructional, strength-related, technological, economic) in order to make sure that the choice is as objective as possible. Therefore, an attempt to acquire a comprehensive view at the problem requires that a set of accurate criteria be used for assessment. In this paper, the author undertakes such an attempt. The expert method presented herein allows for choosing the right connector.

Opis:
Nowadays, the finite element method (FEM) – boundary element method (BEM) is used to predict the performance of structural-acoustic problem, i.e. the frequency response analysis, modal analysis. The accuracy of conventional FEM/BEM for structural-acoustic problems strongly depends on the size of the mesh, element quality, etc. As element size gets greater and distortion gets severer, the deviation of high frequency problem is also clear. In order to improve the accuracy of structural-acoustic problem, a smoothed finite-element/boundary-element coupling procedure (SFEM/BEM) is extended to analyze the structural-acoustic problem consisting of a shell structure interacting with the cavity in this paper, in which the SFEM and boundary element method (BEM) models are used to simulate the structure and the fluid, respectively. The governing equations of the structural-acoustic problems are established by coupling the SFEM for the structure and the BEM for the fluid. The solutions of SFEM are often found to be much more accurate than those of the FEM model. Based on its attractive features, it was decided in the present work to extend SFEM further for use in structural-acoustic analysis by coupling it with BEM, the present SFEM/BEM is implemented to predict the vehicle structure-acoustic frequency response analysis, and two numerical experiments results show that the present method can provide more accurate results compared with the standard FEM/BEM using the same mesh. It indicates that the present SFEM/BEM can be widely applied to solving many engineering noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) problems with more accurate solutions.

Opis:
This paper is concerned with simultaneous topology and shape optimization of elastic contact problems. The structural optimization problem for an elastic contact problem consists in finding such topology as well as such shape of the boundary of the domain occupied by the body that the normal contact stress is minimized. Shape and topological derivatives formulae of the cost functional obtained using material derivative and asymptotic expansion methods, respectively, are recalled. These derivatives are employed to formulate the necessary optimality condition and to calculate a descent direction in a numerical algorithm. Level set based method is employed in numerical algorithm for tracking the evolution of the domain boundary on a fixed mesh and finding an optimal domain. In order to increase the efficiency of the level set based numerical algorithm, the radial basis function approach is used to solve the equation governing domain boundary evolution. Numerical examples are provided and discussed.

The paper deals with the application of uncertainty analysis in structural dynamics. The usage of soft computing method, namely Genetic Algorithms (GA), is presented to show effective computational technique that allows for assessing the propagation of defmed uncertainties in modelled mechanical structure. Tested method is capable of finding variation of eigenfrequencies of Finite Element models and is based on scanning of interval global system matrices. During this process combination of values of input design parameters are found for which extremes of frequencies of vibration appear. FE model of windscreen, made available by Renault Technocentre, has been anafysed. Assumed uncertainties have taken. into account variability of material properties, geometrical characteristics and environmental conditions. Fuzzy theory together with alpha-cut strategy has been applied for modelling uncertain parameters. Sensitivity analysis has been performed to investigate the contribution effect introduced by each assumed input parameter to studied frequency of vibration. Obtained results have been presented and discussed within the context of referential results yielded from Monte Carlo simulation and GA used directly for the search of frequency extremes. Finally, observed time savings have been mentioned to justify the usage of tested computational method.

Research background: The commercial banks are adopting online services for their transactions to stay competitive and fulfill the customers' needs. There is a dire need to satisfy online customers in a competitive environment. Thus, this paper employed the ES-QUAL model and two mediating variables and outlined the recommendations to the management of the online banking industry to develop effective strategies. Purpose of the article: The undertaken research aimed to examine the electronic banking service quality and customer satisfaction. For this purpose, we employed the ES-QUAL model and examined the direct impact of ES-QUAL dimensions and customer's satisfaction. The secondary task of this paper is to investigate the mediation effect of customer's trust and the perceived value in an association between the ES-QUAL model and customer satisfaction. Finally, we examine and check whether customer satisfaction translates into the business performance of commercial banks or not. Methods: To achieve the overall goal of this research, SEM-based multivariate approach has been used, including confirmatory factor analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and multiple approaches (normal theory, and bootstrapping) to examine the moderation between the exogenous and endogenous variables. For the validation of hypotheses and results, a financial analysis has been performed simultaneously with the primary analysis. The research is done for a sample of 910 respondents of the account holders of five top commercial banks of Pakistan. Findings & Value added: The outcomes of the direct investigation revealed an affirmative, and potent impact of ES-QUAL dimensions on customer's satisfaction. The outcomes of the indirect relationship exhibited that the perceived value and trust mediate ES-QUAL dimensions and customer satisfaction. The secondary data of selected five commercial banks and ratios analysis validated the results of the ES-QUAL model, and it is concluded that the results are linear with the outcomes of customers' satisfaction of primary analysis.

Opis:
Elastic waves used in Structural Health Monitoring systems have strongly dispersive character. Therefore it is necessary to determine the appropriate dispersion curves in order to proper interpretation of a received dynamic response of an analyzed structure. The shape of dispersion curves as well as number of wave modes depends on mechanical properties of layers and frequency of an excited signal. In the current work, the relatively new approach is utilized, namely stiffness matrix method. In contrast to transfer matrix method or global matrix method, this algorithm is considered as numerically unconditionally stable and as effective as transfer matrix approach. However, it will be demonstrated that in the case of hybrid composites, where mechanical properties of particular layers differ significantly, obtaining results could be difficult. The theoretical relationships are presented for the composite plate of arbitrary stacking sequence and arbitrary direction of elastic waves propagation. As a numerical example, the dispersion curves are estimated for the lamina, which is made of carbon fibers and epoxy resin. It is assumed that elastic waves travel in the parallel, perpendicular and arbitrary direction to the fibers in lamina. Next, the dispersion curves are determined for the following laminate [0°, 90°, 0°, 90°, 0°, 90°, 0°, 90°] and hybrid [Al, 90°, 0°, 90°, 0°, 90°, 0°], where Al is the aluminum alloy PA38 and the rest of layers are made of carbon fibers and epoxy resin.

Preeclampsia, hemorrhage, and infection are the leading causes of maternal death in underdeveloped countries. Since several proteins associated with preeclampsia are known, we conducted a computational study which evaluated the commonness and potential functionality of intrinsic disorder of these proteins and also made an attempt to characterize their origin. The origin of the preeclampsia-related proteins was assessed with a supervised technique, a Polarity Index Method (PIM), which evaluates the electronegativity of proteins based solely on their sequence. The commonness of intrinsic disorder was evaluated using several disorder predictors from the PONDR family, the charge-hydropathy plot (CH-plot) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) analyses, and using the MobiDB web-based tool, whereas potential functionality of intrinsic disorder was studied with the D2P2 resource and ANCHOR predictor of disorder-based binding sites, and the STRING tool was used to build the interactivity networks of the preeclampsia-related proteins. Peculiarities of the PIM-derived polar profile of the group of preeclampsia-related proteins were then compared with profiles of a group of lipoproteins, antimicrobial peptides, angiogenesis-related proteins, and the intrinsically disordered proteins. Our results showed a high graphical correlation between preeclampsia proteins, lipoproteins, and the angiogenesis proteins. We also showed that many preeclampsia-related proteins contain numerous functional disordered regions. Therefore, these bioinformatics results led us to assume that the preeclampsia proteins are highly associated with the lipoproteins group, and that some preeclampsia-related proteins contain significant amounts of functional disorders.

Basing on experimental data, the possibility of consolidating side products of turning, milling and drilling of aluminum alloys into the form and properties of solids metals using low-temperature KoBo extrusion method has been assessed. Research regarding mechanical and structural properties of the final products revealed their total consolidation and proved their compatibility with requirements for products made of bulk billets. Importantly, the chips consolidation process does not require high or even raised temperature, which significantly reduces the unfavorable phenomenon of chips oxidation and its negative influence on the structure and mechanical properties of products. A very good effect of chips compaction has been proved by KoBo method, which has been confirmed by relatively slightly different mechanical properties of the material after recycling compared with the bulk one. Among currently applied techniques of consolidation of dispersed fractions in a solid state (leaving the melting stage out), the KoBo method seems an innovative way of utilizing metallic chips, as it enables a cold deformation process. The paper presents investigations using 2024 and 7075 aluminum alloys chips from manufacturing process, formed into briquettes and deformed under conditions of KoBo extrusion process, which enables to obtain long product by cold forming. The final product characterized by good microstructures, mechanical features and low cost of production.

Opis:
The paper addresses non-linear vibrations of offshore jack-up drilling platforms loaded by sea waves and wind in their stationary condition using the perturbation method. Non-linearity of dynamic equations of motion for fixed offshore platforms yields from two factors. The first is load excitation generating non-linear velocity coupling in a dynamic system. This coupling is inherent in the modified Morison equation, involving the excitation function in the form of the sum of the inertial and velocity forces of sea waves, taking into account relative wave–structure kinematics. Moreover, the wind acting on the exciting side causes similar effects. The second source is the subsoil‒structure interaction problem, modelled by a system of springs and dashpots that yields stochastic non-linearity of the dynamic system. The matrix equations of structural motion in FEM terms are set up. The perturbation method is adopted to determine the mechanical response of the system, making it possible to determine response spectra of the first and the second approximations for displacements and internal forces of the platform. The paper is the continuation of research detailed in the paper [1]. It is assumed, that the fluctuation parts of the dynamic loading forces are in line with the direction of sea wave propagation. Sea current and lift forces effects are neglected in this study. A numerical example refers to structural data of the Baltic drilling platform in the stationary configuration, i.e. when three legs support the deck above the seawater level.

Opis:
This paper presents a theoretical derivation and reports on a numerical verification of a model-free method for identification of added masses in truss structures. No parametric numerical model of the monitored structure is required, so there is no need for initial model updating and fine tuning. This is a continuation and an improvement of a previous research that resulted in a time-domain identification method, which was tested to be accurate but very time-consuming. A general methodology is briefly introduced, including the inverse problem, and a numerical verification is reported. The aim of the numerical study is to test the accuracy of the proposed method and its sensitivity to various parameters (such as simulated measurement noise and decay rate of the exponential FFT window) in a numerically controlled environment. The verification uses a finite element model of the same real structure that was tested with the time-domain version of the approach. A natural further step is a lab verification based on experimental data.

W artykule przedstawione zostały wybrane rezultaty najnowszych badań magnetotellurycznych i grawimetrycznych wykonanych we wschodniej części Karpat polskich. Zreinterpretowane zostały wyniki regionalnych badań magnetotellurycznych wykonanych wzdłuż dwóch profili: Maniów - Przemyśl i Radoszyce - Przemyśl z wykorzystaniem najnowszych procedur inwersji 1D i 2D. W ramach prac interpretacyjnych przeanalizowana została dokładność określenia położenia granic opornościowych. Opracowane zostały przekroje oporności zawierające główne wyinterpretowane granice litologiczne i strefy tektoniczne. Zweryfikowane zostały modele budowy geologicznej wzdłuż profili: Szczawne - Kuźmina i Jaśliska - Brzozów za pomocą modelowań pola siły ciężkości. Oszacowane zostały korelacyjne zależności pomiędzy prędkościami średnimi fali sejsmicznej i wartościami anomalii rezydualnych siły ciężkości. Na podstawie uzyskanych równań regresji skonstruowano regionalne mapy prędkości średnich.
Selected results of recent magnetotelluric and gravity investigations made in eastern part of the Polish Carpathians were presented in the paper. Results of regional magnetotelluric survey made along two profiles: Maniów - Przemyśl and Radoszyce - Przemyśl were reinterpreted with the use of state-of-the-art 1D and 2D inversion procedures. The accuracy of the evaluation of a depth of interpreted resistivity boundaries was analysed in the framework of interpretation works. Resistivity cross-sections including main interpreted lithological boundaries and tectonic zones were made. Geological models along profiles: Szczawne - Kuźmina and Jaśliska - Brzozów were verified with the use of gravity force modelling. Correlation dependences between average velocities of seismic wave and values of residual anomalies of gravity force were evaluated. Regional maps of average velocities were constructed based on obtained regression equations.

Opis:
The paper presents the analysis of the results of the image quality estimation when using the Monte Carlo method applied to the Structural Similarity index [5] in the aspect of correlation with the subjective evaluation. As a test platform, the LIVE database (available at the Laboratory for Image & Video Engineering of the University of Texas at Austin) [7] containing the Differential Mean Opinion Score (DMOS) values for almost 1000 images corrupted by five common types of distortions has been used. After the short introduction containing the analysis of some modern image quality assessment techniques, the idea of the image quality fast estimation with use of the Monte Carlo Structural Similarity Index [6] is described. The results of the Pearson's correlation of the DMOS values and MC-SSIM for the individual types of distortions and for the whole database, excluding the original images, are presented in Tables 1-2. Tables 3-4 illustrate the optimised results obtained after the nonlinear mapping with use of the logistic function (6). The obtained results of the linear correlation, as well as those obtained when using the nonlinear mapping by the optimised logistic function, confirm the usefulness of the proposed fast image quality estimation technique. An interesting fact is not only the preservation of the high correlation coefficients even for the small number of pixels used for the quality estimation but also a slight increase in them which may be an interesting stimulus for further research.
