Opis:
This paper shows a study on the effect of different structure nodes and operating tracks on the loaded/emptied type of bus vehicle in the Czech Republic. Five different structural nodes are selected to represent the loading capacity of the bus. City track and testing ground data measurements are performed for comparison. Accelerated durability test for fatigue life assessment can be performed on the testing ground with determined test track composition. The results are expected to show different characteristics of stress spectra influencing the structure’s fatigue life. The fatigue life calculation is performed based on deterministic procedures for a structural component. The procedure is then statistically expanded to include mathematical extrapolation on the stress spectra for all measurements of the designed life.

Opis:
In this paper fundamental information on the influence of the real machined surfaces generated by different machining processes on the fatigue life of machine parts are presented. In the first part the various approaches for the assessment of the stress concentration factor and the correction of a fatigue life limit are discussed. In the second part the results of standard fatigue tests are compared with computed data and predictions using FEM based simulations. The effect of surface discontinues (valleys) in the real surface profiles is related to engineered parts made of different materials including steels, aluminium alloys, aerospace alloys and composites.

Mental health is equally important with physical health. Many reports found out that poor mental health is one of the major factors of depression among seafarers. This study ascertains the factors affecting mental health and the strategies applied by Filipino seafarers to combat these issues. A survey was used as a research design. A total of 100 seafarers taken through convenience and snowball sampling answered the validated researcher-made questionnaire. The questionnaire was sent in the JBLFMU Alumni Portal, messenger, and Gmail. Frequency, percentage, and rank were used. Themes were used to classify the strategies applied by seafarers to counteract mental health issues onboard ship. The results revealed that the major contributory factor affecting the mental health of Filipino seafarers is stress, while they believed that a positive outlook in life makes one’s self free from mental health problems onboard. The top three factors are stress, fatigue, and separation from families and friends. The top three strategies to counteract factors that affect seafarers’ mental health onboard ship are staying positive, socializing with crewmates, and communicating with family.

In the present study it has been endeavored to estimate the fatigue crack propagation in V-notch Charpy specimens of 2024 T351 Al-alloy. For this purpose, a new application of fatigue crack growth (FCG) is developed based on the “Gamma function.” Experimental fatigue tests are conducted for stress ratios from 0.1 to 0.5 under constant amplitude loading. The empiric model depends principally on physical parameters and materials’ properties in non-dimensional form. Deviation percentage, prediction ratio, and band error are used for validation of the performance of the fatigue life. The results determined from Gamma application are in good agreement with experimental FCG rates and those obtained from using Paris law.

Nauczyciele są grupą zawodową, w której ze względu na rodzaj pracy i specyfikę obciążeń można spodziewać się występowania nasilonego zmęczenia. Jednak niewiele badań dotyczy tego problemu. Celem niniejszych była ocena poziomu zmęczenia po pracy i zmęczenia przewlekłego u nauczycieli oraz ustalenie, czy i w jakim stopniu są one zależne od obciążeń zawodowych i pozazawodowych.Materiał i metodyW doborze grupy zastosowano model losowania warstwowego, gdzie warstwami były szkoły (szkoła podstawowa, gimnazjum, liceum, technikum, szkoła zawodowa, szkoła specjalna) i ich lokalizacja (miasto wojewódzkie, miasto >5 tys. mieszkańców, miasto ≤5 tys. mieszkańców, wieś). Do udziału w badaniu zaproszono wszystkich nauczycieli zatrudnionych w wylosowanych placówkach. Rozdano 650 ankiet – kompletne ankiety zwróciło 403 nauczycieli. Oceniano zmęczenie po pracy na podstawie odpowiedzi na pytanie „Czy odczuwa Pani/Pan zmęczenie po pracy?” i zmęczenie przewlekłe z zastosowaniem Skali oceny zmęczenia (Fatigue Assessment Scale – FAS). Do oceny innych czynników, które mogą wpływać na poziom zmęczenia, opracowana została specjalna ankieta. Zastosowano Kwestionariusz do subiektywnej oceny stresu w pracy oraz kwestionariusz Cohena Skala spostrzeganego stresu (Perceived Stress Scale – PSS) do oceny stresu ogólnego. Ponadto zastosowano listę obciążeń zawodowych pedagoga na podstawie Kwestionariusza obciążeń zawodowych pedagoga oraz listę dodatkowych czynników przeszkadzających w pracy nauczycieli.WynikiW badaniu udział wzięło 70 mężczyzn w wieku 35–63 lat i 333 kobiety (24–64 lata). Średnia wieku kobiet i mężczyzn nie różniła się istotnie. Na poziom zmęczenia nauczycieli, bez względu na płeć, w największym stopniu wpływały cechy pracy decydujące o jej stresogenności (presja czasu, pośpiech, niedostosowanie tempa pracy do indywidualnych możliwości, wzrastające stale obciążenie, nadmiar odpowiedzialnych zadań, brak wsparcia przełożonych, niski prestiż zawodu, brak sukcesów pedagogicznych mimo wysiłku wkładanego w nauczanie, poczucie braku sensu pracy oraz negatywny wpływ pracy na życie rodzinne) oraz obciążenia pozazawodowe i niewystarczający wypoczynek.WnioskiPrzeprowadzone badanie pozwoliło określić profil i częstość występowania czynników zawodowych i pozazawodowych, które kształtują poziom zmęczenia u nauczycieli. Teachers are a occupational group in which, due to the type and specificity of work, it can be expected that the feeling of fatigue will be very intense. However, there has been little research into this problem. The aim of the research was to assess the level of fatigue after work and chronic fatigue in teachers, and to determine whether and to what extent it depends on occupational and non-occupational loads.Material and MethodsThe stratified sampling model was used to select the sample, where the layers were the type of school and its location (size of a town/city). All teachers from selected schools were invited to participate. Overall, 650 questionnaires were distributed and 403 teachers returned completed questionnaires. Fatigue after work was assessed on the basis of answers to the following question: “Do you feel tired after work?” and chronic fatigue using the Fatigue Assessment Scale. A special questionnaire was developed to assess other factors that might affect the level of fatigue. The Subjective Stress Assessment at Work Questionnaire, Cohen’s Perceived Stress Scale, a part of the Questionnaire of Professional Loads of the Teacher and a list of additional factors disturbing the work were used.ResultsThe study involved 70 men aged 35–63 years and 333 women (24–64 years). The groups did not differ significantly in terms of mean age. The level of fatigue, regardless of gender, was mostly influenced by time pressure, rush, mismanagement of the pace of work to individual abilities, increasing workload, an excess of responsible tasks, a lack of support from superiors, a low prestige of the profession, a lack of pedagogical successes, a sense of the lack of meaning in work, and the negative impact of work on family life, as well as non-occupational loads and insufficient rest.ConclusionsThe conducted study allowed for determining the profile and frequency of occupational and non-occupational factors affecting the level of fatigue in teachers. This paper deals with the influence of initial crack-tip shape, plastic compressibility and material or strain softening on near-tip stress-strain fields for mode I crack when subjected to fatigue loading with an overload event under plane strain and small scale yielding conditions. A finite strain elastic-viscoplastic constitutive equation with a hardening-softening- -hardening hardness function is taken up for simulation. For comparison, a bilinear hardening hardness function is also considered. It has been observed that the near-tip crack opening stress yy, crack growth stress xx, and hydrostatic stresses are noticeably controlled by the initial crack tip shape, plastic compressibility, material softening as well as the overload event. The distribution pattern of different stresses for a plastically compressible hardening- -softening-hardening solid appears to be very unusual and advantageous as compared to those of traditional materials. Therefore, the present numerical results may guide material scientists/engineers to understand the near-tip stress-strain fields and growth of a crack in a better way for plastically compressible solids, and thus may help to develop new materials with improved properties.

This study focused on the fatigue and corrosion fatigue of maraging steel 18Ni (250). The 18Ni (250) samples were tested for axial fatigue in air and 3.5% NaCl solution. The effects of loading frequency and stress ratio on the fatigue strength of 18Ni (250) were studied. In air, the loading frequency was 10 Hz, and the stress ratio was 0.5. However, three loading methods were used in the 3.5% NaCl solution: (i) the loading frequency of 1 Hz and stress ratio of 0.5; (ii) the loading frequency of 1 Hz and stress ratio 0.1, and (iii) the loading frequency 5 Hz and stress ratio 0.5. The corrosion fatigue strength of samples in the 3.5% NaCl solution was 63.3% lower than that of the samples in air. The fractures in the samples were observed after the test.

Establishing a fatigue life prediction model considering the machined surface state is of great significance to improve fatigue life prediction accuracy. Fatigue tests with different machined surface states of GH4169 alloy were conducted firstly. The influence of surface state parameters on the fatigue life was analyzed. Then, the machined surface stress concentration factor and residual stress were introduced into the fatigue crack initiation and propagation models. Finally, the fatigue life prediction model of GH4169 material considering the surface states was established. The prediction results based on the proposed model are almost within a factor of two scatter band of the test results.

Varying ohmic loss in the winding of electrical machines, which are operated atvarious operating points, results in temperature changes during operation. Particularly, when the temperature is varying dynamically, the insulation system suffers from repeated thermal-mechanical stress, since the thermal expansion coefficients of the insulating materials and copper conductors are different. For the appropriate design of an insulation system, the effect of thermal-mechanical stress must be known. In the present work, motorettes are subjected to repeated thermal cycles. The expected lifetime is estimated and compared to the life time which is achieved by applying a lifetime-model which only considers thermal aging while ignoring thermal-mechanical stress effects. In addition, the hotspot temperature is simulated, the lifetime at the hotspot is estimated as the worst case. As expected, the results indicate that the thermal-mechanical stress plays a significant role during dynamic thermal aging of the winding insulation system. To better understand the thermal-mechanical stress effect, the resulting thermal-mechanical stress in a single wire is analyzed by the finite element method. A preliminary analysis of the aging mechanism of materials due to cyclic thermal-mechanical stress is performed with the theory of material fatigue.

This research investigates a thermo-mechanical strength of three geometrical shape designs of an internal combustion (IC) engine piston by a finite element analysis (FEA). FEA was performed using Solidworks software for modelling geometrical piston designs, and the models were imported into ANSYS software for thermo-mechanical fatigue simulation. The work focused on predicting high stress intensity and indicated the fatigue critical regions and life of the piston shape design. AL7075-T6 aluminium alloy was used as a piston material and thermo-mechanical fatigue simulation was conducted based on the experimental stress-number of cycles recorded data from literature. Analytical results showed the similarity of the critical failure positions to some real failures in the IC engine piston, and the shape design modification of the piston. Hence, this concept can be used to satisfy the IC engine design needs at low cost.

Purpose: The aim of the proposed research is to create a calculation model of surface fatigue crack growth at the axle of railway wheelset working under operational loads. Design/methodology/approach: The energy approach of the fracture mechanics was used to formulate the calculation model of fatigue crack propagation at the wheelset axle surface. The method of least squares was used to determine the investigated material mechanical constants that the kinetic equations of the calculation model contain. The system of differential equations of crack growth kinetics was solved numerically using the Runge-Kutta method. Findings: On the basis of the energy approach of the fracture mechanics the calculation model of fatigue macrocrack growth in three-dimensional elastic-plastic body in case of a mixed-mode I+II+III macromechanism of fracture has been built. On the basis of the created calculation model, the kinetics of the growth of fatigue cracks was investigated both in the middle part of the wheelset axle and in the axle journal. Research limitations/implications: The results obtained on laboratory specimens should be tested during a real railway wheelset axle investigation. Practical implications: The created calculation model can be used in practice to formulate method of residual lifetime estimation of railway wheelset axle. Originality/value: It was shown, that surface crack kinetics depends not only on the crack initial area but also significantly depends on the crack edge geometry and comparatively small crack-like defects at the wheelset axle surface can reach critical sizes in comparatively short run. It has been found that mechanical shear stresses caused by the weight of the loaded railway wagon in the cross section of the wheelset axle journal can significantly accelerate the growth of the transverse fatigue crack at the axle surface, reducing the period of crack subcritical growth by about 20%.

Opis:
The fatigue resistance of the cylinder block (CB) of an axial-piston hydraulic machine (APHM) made of tin bronze CuSn12 has been investigated. Fatigue tests of smooth and notched standard samples were performed and fatigue curves were constructed. The stress state of the CB is investigated by the finite element method. It is established that the maximum stresses are localized on a small part of the partition between axial cylinders holes loaded by internal pressure. A method for recalculating the established length of this zone of partition with an uneven distribution of dangerous stresses by an equivalent length with a constant stress equal to the maximum is proposed. The use of the statistical theory of the similarity of the fatigue failure of Serensen-Kogayev, the results of the fatigue tests of the samples and the calculation of the equivalent length made it possible to determine the endurance limit of the CB considered. The acceptability of the proposed method estimating the endurance limit by the known results of resource tests of the CB APHM 210.25 is confirmed.

Opis:
The article presents the results of studies on the impact of a combined load of a radial cylindrical roller bearing for its predicted fatigue life. The distributions of maximum equivalent subsurface stresses and their depths, necessary during calculations of fatigue life, were determined using the finite element method, using the basic package of the ANSYS program. The calculations took into account the geometrical parameters of the bearing, including radial clearance and the shape of the rolling elements generators. The calculation results showed that the axial load of the radial cylindrical roller bearing and the tilt of the rollers associated with its operation reduces fatigue life. The obtained results were compared with the results of calculations according to the SKF catalogue method, obtaining satisfactory compliance.
W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań wpływu złożonego obciążenia promieniowego łożyska walcowego na jego prognozowaną trwałość zmęczeniową. Rozkłady maksymalnych zastępczych naprężeń podpowierzchniowych oraz głębokości ich występowania, niezbędne podczas obliczeń trwałości zmęczeniowej, określono za pomocą metody elementów skończonych, z wykorzystaniem pakietu podstawowego programu ANSYS. W obliczeniach uwzględniono geometryczne parametry łożyska, w tym luz promieniowy i kształt tworzących elementów tocznych. Wyniki obliczeń wykazały, że obciążenie osiowe promieniowego łożyska walcowego i przechylenie wałeczków towarzyszące jego działaniu powoduje zmniejszenie trwałości zmęczeniowej. Otrzymane wyniki porównano z wynikami obliczeń według katalogowej metody firmy SKF, otrzymując zadowalającą zgodność.

Opis:
Fatigue properties of orthotropic steel bridge deck of Xinghai Bay Cross-sea Bridge in Dalian were analyzed. The segment model of orthotropic bridge deck was established by using the finite element software Abaqus. The intersection between diaphragm and U-rib was selected to analysis. The fatigue loading model III was adopted which was provided by “Specifications for Design of Highway Steel Bridge”. First, the transverse stress influence line and the transverse severest loading position were determined. Then, five loading regions were selected near the transverse severest position. The stress amplitude of the intersection was ascertained through loading on the longitudinal bridge for each region. Finally, the fatigue checking for the intersection was carried out. The results showed that the maximum fatigue stress amplitude of orthotropic deck in Xinghai Bay Cross-sea Bridge met the requirements of "Specifications for Design of Highway Steel Bridge".
