Opis:
Wales has been in contact with English since as early as the 12th century, with the English language exerting regular influence on the indigenous Welsh-language community since the 14th century. Since the earlier times of contact the two languages have interacted, mutually influencing each other to a differing and asymmetrical degree. The situation is that of widespread bilingualism, with everyday occurrences of natural code-switching between Welsh and English, as well as constant interaction and mutual influence of one language on the other, most notably in the form of borrowing and substratum patterns, not restricted to the area of the lexical stock. Within the lexical sphere, however, there is evidence that borrowing from English must have begun as early as the Old English period; and that the process is in full force today. The older borrowings are not straightforwardly so noticeable or recognisable since they have undergone substantial phonological modification and adaptation to the native system. One of these modifications has concerned the suprasegmental feature of word stress. The adaptation of Anglicisms at the segmental level has been investigated before, while the accent accommodation to the Welsh pattern has only occasionally been noticed or commented upon. And yet, since there exists a systemic difference between the two phonological systems in that in English the word-accent is quantity sensitive, whereas in Welsh it is fixed (mostly) to the penultimate syllable, one can expect a considerable amount of conflicting points and necessary adjustments to eliminate illicit metrical structure. The research into these issues appears to suggest that we cannot talk about mechanical inclusion of borrowed words into the word-stress pattern functioning in Modern Welsh, as will hopefully become clear after examination of the data set. It is to such issues that this paper is going to be devoted.

Opis:
The photochemical activity of photosystem II (PSII) was measured by chlorophyll a fluorescence intensity of Scots pine needles, from trees growing in various forest experimental areas exposed to air and soil pollution. Fluorescence techniques was used as a no-invasive method of detection injuries of the photosynthetic apparatus. Chlorophyll fluorescence parameters such as PSII photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), chlorophyll fluorescence decrease ratio (Rfd) and size of the acceptor pools available to PSII (Sm) indicated seasonal changes in the activity of the photosynthetic apparatus of pine needles. Significant differences in the variable fluorescence parameter rations Fv/Fm and Rfd between the studied sites were found in middle-winter dormancy period in January and also in samples collected in August. Winter inactivation of photosynthesis results in areduction of the photochemical efficiency Fv/Fm and Rfd. Presented results demonstrate that the effect of industrial pollution on Scots pine needles is detectable by of measurements of fluorescence parameters. They showed that Scots pine trees indicated physiological adaptation to environmental pollution and this can be monitored by the fluorescence signals earlier than by other methods.
Badano fotochemiczną aktywność fotosystemu II (PS II) igieł sosny zwyczajnej mierząc fluorescencję chlorofilu a igieł trzech populacji rosnących pod wpływem skażenia gleby i powietrza. Analizowano następujące parametry fluorescencji chlorofilu a: Fv/Fm, Rfd i Sm/Fm. Stwierdzono ich sezonowazmie - nność. Istotne różnice statystyczne pomiedzy stanowiskami wzrostu badanych populacji wystąpiły dla parametru Fv/Fm i Rfd w okresie spoczynku zimowego w styczniu. Zaburzenia fotosyntezy zimą prowadzą do redukcji wydajności fotochemicznej wyrażonej stosunkiem Fv/Fm i Rfd. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują iż kondycję drzew iglastych rosnących w skażonym środowisku można ocenić przez pomiar fluorecencji chlorofilu a w igłach. Przedstawione badania wspierają hipotezę zakładającą, że sosna zwyczajna należy do drzew o wyraźnej fizjologicznej zdolności adaptacji do skażonego środowiska.

Opis:
In the solution structure of the ribosome-associated cold shock response protein Yfia of Escherichia coli in the free state two structural segments can be distinguished: a well structured, rigid N-terminal part displaying a βαβββα topology and a flexible C-terminal tail comprising last 20 amino-acid residues. The backbone dynamics of Yfia protein was studied by 15N nuclear magnetic relaxation at three magnetic fields and analyzed using model-free approach. The overall diffusional tumbling of the N-terminal part is strongly anisotropic with a number of short stretches showing increased mobility either on a subnanosecond time scale, or a micro- to millisecond time scale, or both. In contrast, the unstructured polypeptide chain of the C-terminal part, which cannot be regarded as a rigid structure, shows the predominance of fast local motions over slower ones, both becoming faster closer to the C-terminus.

Opis:
Aim. The aim of the research is to identify changes of psychological determinants of elderly people’s inclination to social dependency during the first month of Russian-Ukrainian war in comparison with peace time. Methods. The research uses methodologies of inclination to demanding behaviour by Hrabovska (2005), emotional intelligence by D. Luisin (2006), personality volitional qualities by Chumakov (2006), adaptive stress abilities by Rozov (2006), psychological well-being by Ryff as adapted by Shevelenkova and Fesenko (2005). Results. It is identified that during the first months of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, inclination of elderly people, who stay in relatively safe conditions in Ukraine, to social dependency does not undergo significant changes in comparison with peacetime. There are changes in the vector of emotional regulation of social dependency: from intrapersonal in pre-war time into interpersonal during the wartime, when importance in understanding the emotions of other people is high consequently, it results in a more active life stance in the elderly. Initiative becomes a leading will regulator, shows far-sightedness of a person. There is activation of coping mechanisms, related to adaptive thinking, sleep and somatic regulation, and they can be considered vital resources for stable mental health preservation at the beginning of a war. Conclusions. It is recommended to provide psychological support to seniors in finding occupations that help them to realize their capacity for self-sufficiency and create conditions for personal responsibility and assertiveness as the ability to stand for their own rights without violating other people's resources.

Opis:
The study presents results of research on family adaptation pattern in situation of unemployment distress. Theoretical basis is McMaster Model of Family Functioning, modified by P. Steinhauer. The method was Family Questionaire, by M. Cierpka (Cierpka, Erevert, 1994) based on Family Assessment Measure III, by P. Steinhauer et al. (1984). Subjects was unemployed men (23) and women (22) and their families. The results suggest serious disfunctions in every family system dimensions, except affective involvement. The threat of crisis is deeper in families of unemployed men, whose self-assessment as family member is strongly connected with disfunction of whole family system.

The aim of the research: To show and approve the importance of transformation processes in society and features of a modern personality reacting. Methods of the research: Critical analysis of scientific sources, as well as modern results of practical experience, clarification, analysis of terminological concepts, synthesis, systematization, generalization of basic concepts. Conclusions. In ralation to rapid changes in all spheres of life, that results to system changes in society in the sphere of interpersonal mutual relations, in technical environment and others, there is an actual necessity of a modern personality’s adaptation for different age to the transforming conditions. If a personality cannot, or has no time to adapt to change, his/her own algorithms of behaviour, a way of thinking, a way of life, it can result to exclusion, cognitive dissonance, physical and psychical diseases, as the result of such exclusion.

Opis:
Introduction and objective. Adapting to gynaecological cancer is the problem of accepting and coping with the disease and its consequences. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between stress intensity and strategies for coping with stress and psychological adaptation to disease in women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer. Materials and method. The study was performed on a group of 102 women diagnosed with gynaecologic malignancy. The mean age of patients was 56.1 (SD ±10.75) years. Three self- designed questionnaires were used to carry out the study: Scale of Perceived Stress (PSS-10), Multidimensional Inventory for Measuring Coping with Stress (Mini-COPE) and the Scale of Mental Adaptation to Cancer (Mini-MAC). Statistical significance was set at p <0.05. Results. In more than half of the women surveyed, the severity of stress experienced during the last month was high. Women with a malignant illness significantly differed (p<0.001) in the styles of coping with the disease, preferring a constructive style (M=43.5; SD±5.76) rather than a destructive style (M=21.7; SD±5.28). The highest median values were obtained by positive revalidation (M=21.9; SD±3.01) and fighting spirit (M=21.6; SD±3.47) strategies. The most prominent indicator of predicting a constructive style of coping with cancer was the coping strategy described as Positive Revalidation (ßeta=0.38; R²=0.41); whereas an Acceptance strategy was a predictor of a destructive style (ßeta=-0.30; R²=0.31). Conclusions. Most women facing gynaecological cancer experience a high level of stress, and try to use active strategies to deal with the disease. The results indicate that there is a need to offer special psychological care to oncologically diagnosed women.

Opis:
The paper presents chosen scientific theories regarding the adaptation of parents of children with disabilities to critical situations. Most of the evoked theories originate from the ABCX Model, invented by Reuben Hill in 1949. One of the paper's conclusions is that there is no universal theory which fully explains process of parents' adaptation to the situation in which they have to face with disability of their child. Moreover in future research there should be a focus on variables which mediate and moderate the association between child's disability and parents' adjustment and adaptation to crisis.
