This paper concerns an analytical study of an infinite expanse of uniform flow of steady axisymmetric creeping flow of an incompressible micropolar fluid around the permeable sphere assuming a nonhomogeneous boundary condition for microrotation vector. It is assumed that microrotation vector is proportional to the rotation rate of velocity vector. The stream function solutions for the flow fields are obtained in the terms of modified Bessel’s functions and Gegenbauer functions. Continuity of normal velocity, no-slip condition, non-zero microrotation vector on the sphere, uniform velocity at infinity are the different boundary conditions used to determine the flow fields explicitly. The microrotation component, pressure field, bounds of permeability parameter and drag force experienced by the permeable sphere are calculated. Dependence of the drag force on different fluid parameters is presented graphically and discussed. It is found that drag force decreases with increasing spin parameter. Several cases of interest are deduced from the present analysis.

The method of successive approximation, the Galerkin method and the R-functions method are used to obtain the numerical solution, which was tested on the problem with known solution.

Opis:
The problem of two dimensional internal wave scattering by a vertical barrier in the form of a submerged plate, or a thin wall with a gap in an exponentially stratified fluid of uniform finite depth bounded by a rigid plane at the top, is considered in this paper. Assuming linear theory and the Boussinesq approximation, the problem is formulated in terms of the stream function. In the regions of the two sides of the vertical barrier, the scattered stream function is represented by appropriate eigen function expansions. By the use of appropriate conditions on the barrier and the gap, a dual series relation involving the unknown elements of the scattering matrix is produced. By defining a function with these unknown elements as its Fourier sine expansion series, it is found that this function satisfies a Carleman type integral equation on the barrier whose solution is immediate. The elements of the scattering matrix are then obtained analytically as well as numerically corresponding to any mode of the incident internal wave train for each barrier configuration. A comparison with earlier results available in the literature shows good agreement. To visualize the effect of the barrier on the fluid motion, the stream lines for an incident internal wave train at the lowest mode are plotted.

The aim of this paper is to simulate the laminar motion of viscous incompressible fluid and the transition between the laminar and the turbulent state in simply connected domains. The developed numerical algorithms are based on the solution of an initial-boundary value problem for the full incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, written in the form of a fourth-order equation for the stream function. The spatial derivatives and the boundary conditions are discretized on uniform grids by means of sixth-order compact schemes together with fourth-order finite-difference formulas, while the continuity of the time variable is preserved. The resulting system of ordinary differential equations has been integrated using the backward-differentiation predictor-corrector method. The efficiency of the numerical algorithms is demonstrated by solving two problems of viscous liquid plane flows in a square driven cavity and a backward-facing step. Calculations for the cavity flow configuration have been obtained for Reynolds numbers ranging from Re=100 to Re=30000 on uniform 50×50 and 100×100 grids. Calculations for the backward-facing step have been made for Re ≤ 3000 with channel lengths, L, within the range 10-30, on 30L×30 uniform grids. The computed stream-function contours and velocity fields have been compared with numerical results reported in the literature.

Data streams (streaming data) consist of transiently observed, evolving in time, multidimensional data sequences that challenge our computational and/or inferential capabilities. We propose user friendly approaches for robust monitoring of selected properties of unconditional and conditional distributions of the stream based on depth functions. Our proposals are robust to a small fraction of outliers and/or inliers, but at the same time are sensitive to a regime change in the stream. Their implementations are available in our free R package DepthProc.

Z praktycznego punktu widzenia priorytetowym celem analizy ekonomicznego szeregu czasowego jest uzyskanie wglądu na podstawie stale uaktualnianej próby umiarkowanej długości w krótkookresowe właściwości probabilistyczne procesu generującego dane. Na podstawie takiej w ogólności nieprecyzyjnej wiedzy dokonywanych jest szereg decyzji ekonomicznych oraz prognoz. W praktyce bardzo ważną kwestią jest odpowiedź na pytanie co mówi nam większość danych o przyszłym zachowaniu większości uczestników pewnego rynku. Szczególnie trudno odpowiedzieć na takie pytanie w przypadku wielkich zbiorów danych generowanych przez zmieniający się wielowymiarowy model. W artykule prezentujemy wybrane zastosowania procedur indukowanych przez głębię położenia-rozrzutu Mizery i Müller w odpornej analizie strumienia danych ekonomicznych.
In this paper we study the properties of the location-scale depth procedures introduced by Mizera & Müller and look into the probabilistic information of the underlying time series model carried by them. We focus our attention on short term multivariate quantile based description of the possible time series model. We study robustness and utility of such the description in a decision making process. In particular we investigate properties of the moving Student median (two dimensional Tukey median in a location–scale problem).

Two types of heuristic estimators based on Parzen kernels are presented. They are able to estimate the regression function in an incremental manner. The estimators apply two techniques commonly used in concept-drifting data streams, i.e., the forgetting factor and the sliding window. The methods are applicable for models in which both the function and the noise variance change over time. Although nonparametric methods based on Parzen kernels were previously successfully applied in the literature to online regression function estimation, the problem of estimating the variance of noise was generally neglected. It is sometimes of profound interest to know the variance of the signal considered, e.g., in economics, but it can also be used for determining confidence intervals in the estimation of the regression function, as well as while evaluating the goodness of fit and in controlling the amount of smoothing. The present paper addresses this issue. Specifically, variance estimators are proposed which are able to deal with concept drifting data by applying a sliding window and a forgetting factor, respectively. A number of conducted numerical experiments proved that the proposed methods perform satisfactorily well in estimating both the regression function and the variance of the noise.

This research contribution instantiates a framework of a hybrid cascade neural network based on the application of a specific sort of neo-fuzzy elements and a new peculiar adaptive training rule. The main trait of the offered system is its competence to continue intensifying its cascades until the required accuracy is gained. A distinctive rapid training procedure is also covered for this case that offers the possibility to operate with non-stationary data streams in an attempt to provide online training of multiple parametric variables. A new training criterion is examined for handling non-stationary objects. Additionally, there is always an occasion to set up (increase) the inference order and the number of membership relations inside the extended neo-fuzzy neuron.
