Opis:
In this work, the authors investigate the optimal tribological parameters of Al 7075 composite reinforced with ZrB2 using Grey Relational Analysis (GRA). Initially, the composite specimens were prepared by the variation of reinforcement 5%, 10% and 15% using stir casting routing method. Further, the developed metal matrix composites are used to measure the wear and frictional properties on pin-on – disc testing apparatus. The input parameters such as, wt% of reinforcement (5%, 10% and 15%), load (4.92N, 9.81N and 14.72N) and the time required for conducting the wear test is (15 min. 30 min and 45 min). A Taguchi L9 orthogonal array was designed for conducting the number of experiments. Based on the combination of number of experiments wear study has been conducted on the wear testing apparatus. Moreover, GRA was used for obtaining the best optimal input control parameters that gives minimum magnitude of wear and coefficient of friction (COF). Finally, the confirmatory experiments are conducted and verified with the Taguchi grey relational analysis. The results shows that the predicated optimal mean value is almost similar to the experimental value.

Opis:
In this research, AA7068/Si3N4 composites were fabricated through stir casting with the attachment of ultrasonic treatment. The quenching medium and aging duration significantly influenced the hardness of Al alloy samples. Peak hardness was achieved after 12 h of artificial aging at the temperature of 140°C. The addition of nano Si3N4 significantly refined the microstructure of unreinforced AA7068. The dispersion of intermetallic compounds (MgZn2) and grain boundary discontinuation were noticed after the T-6 heat treatment. Ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and hardness were improved by 70.95%, 76.19%, and 44.33%, respectively, with the addition of 1.5 weight % Si3N4 compared to as-cast alloy due to the combined effect of heat treatment, hall-Petch, Orowan, thermal miss match, load-bearing strengthening mechanisms and uniform dispersion of reinforcement. A reduction in percentage elongation was noticed due to composites’ brittle nature by the effect of ceramic Si3N4 particles’ inclusion. The fracture surfaces reveal ductile failure for alloy and mixed-mode failure in the case of composites.

Opis:
Metal network compounds have primary properties. The use of lightweight and low vitality is a testament to the growing interest in the automotive industry. Aluminum alloys, due to their advanced physical, mechanical and tribological properties, have become a highly emerging material for a variety of industrial applications and the importance of efficient material selection is explained. In this paper, an Al8011 hybrid metal matrix composite is developed through the stir casting process. The different weight proportions of B4C (3%, 6%, 9% & 12%) and fixed proportions of 2% MoS2 have been used. Composite developed are subjected to mechanical properties evaluation and seawater corrosion studies following standard procedures. To study the porosity of the composite samples, theoretical density and actual density are calculated. An acoustic emission system-assisted tensile test is carried out to report the strength of the composite. From this experimental method, adding reinforcement can increase the tensile strength and hardness of the composites. Under sea water, the increase in reinforcement found an increase in corrosion resistance. Fractured surfaces were perused using SEM and EDS analysis.

The impact of Garnet addition into the AL7075 aluminium matrix on the physical, mechanical and corrosion properties are studied in this research paper. Al 7075/garnet composites are fabricated by using two-stage stir casting method in different (0, 5, 10, 15) volume percentages. Photomicrograph of prepared samples revealed the uniform distribution of garnet reinforcement into the base matrix. The corrosion rate is calculated by potentiodynamic polarization method. The actual density is increased by around 1.2% for al 7075 / garnet (15%) composite as compared to base alloy. Micro hardness of al 7075 / garnet (15%) composite is raised by around 47 (34%) compare to as cast base matrix. Al 7075 / garnet (15%) composite tensile strength stood at 252 Mpa, which is 40% greater than the base alloy. Al 7075 / 15% garnet composites reduce around 97% of corrosion rate than the base matrix. Alloy elements influenced the corrosion than Garnet reinforcement.

The aluminum composite with dispersed high entropy alloy were developed by stir casting involving the powder-in-tube method. First, Al0.5CoCrCuFeNi high entropy alloy (HEA) powder was made by mechanical alloying, and the powder was extruded in a tube-type aluminum container to form HEA precursor. The extruded HEA precursor was then dispersed in the aluminum matrix via stir casting. As a result, Fe-Cr-Ni based high-entropy phases was uniformly formed in the aluminum matrix, revealing ~158, 166, 235% enhancement of tensile strength by incorporating 1, 3, and 5 wt% HEA particles, respectively.

Opis:
In the present study, AA7075/Al2O3 composites have been fabricated via liquid metallurgy process. AA7075 alloy and Al2O3 particles were taken as the base matrix and reinforcements, respectively. Then, contents of 3 and 6 wt. % of Al2O3 subdivisions were added into the AA7075 matrix. To improve wettability and distribution, reinforcement particles were pre-heated to a temperature of 550°C for each composite sample. A hardened EN32 steel disc as the counter face was used to evaluate the wear rate pin-on-disc. The results showed that the wear rate of the AA/Al2O3 composites was smaller than that of the monolithic AA7075 samples. Finally, the worn surfaces of samples were investigated by SEM.

Magnesium alloys containing yttrium and neodymium are known to have high specific strength, good creep and corrosion resistance up to 250°C. The addition of ceramic particles strengthens the metal matrix composite resulting in better wear and creep resistance while maintaining good machinability. In the present study, WE43 magnesium matrix composite reinforced with SiC particles were fabricated by stir casting. The microstructure of the composite was investigated by optical microscopy, quantitative metallography, scanning electron microscope and XRD analysis. Microstructure characterization of WE43 MMC showed homogeneous reinforcement distribution and presence of the small amount of porosity at the interface. A thin layer consists of zirconium-rich particles was observed at the interface. In the microstructure, inclusions of the yttrium oxide were found. The presence of SiC particles assisted in improving hardness and in decreasing the ultimate tensile strength, yield tensile strength and elongation.

Opis:
Magnesium Metal Matrix Composites (Mg MMC) have been the focus of consideration by many researchers for the past few years. Many applications of Mg MMCs were evolved in less span of time in the automotive and aerospace sector to capture the benefit of high strength to weight ratio along with improved corrosion resistance. However, the performance of these materials in critical conditions is significantly influenced by several factors including the fabrication methods used for processing the composites. Most of the papers addressed all the manufacturing strategies of Mg MMC but no paper was recognized as a dedicated source for magnesium composites prepared through STIR casting process. Since STIR casting is the least expensive and most common process in the preparation of composites, this paper reviews particulate based Mg MMCs fabricated with STIR casting technology. AZ91 series alloys are considered as the matrix material while the effect of different particle reinforcements, sizes, weight fractions on mechanical and tribological responses are elaborated in support with micro structural examinations. Technical difficulties and latest innovations happened during the last decade in making Mg MMCs as high performance material are also presented.

Opis:
The present paper deals with the Friction Stir Processing (FSP) of an AlSi6Cu4 cast aluminium alloy. The emphasis was placed on the determination of an influence FSP parameters and the torque action on the tool. It was found that an increase in rotational speed of the tool causes a decrease in the torque. Simultaneously, the results showed that an increase in travelling speed of the tool brings about an increase in the torque. The metallographic examination of the processed surface layer of the material has shown that the depth of the layer in which the microstructure was modified by the shoulder action depends to a large extent on the rotation speed and to a lesser extent on the travelling speed.
