Opis:
Performances of underwater acoustic communication (UAC) systems are strongly related to specific propagation conditions of the underwater channel. Due to their large variability, there is a need for adaptive matching of the UAC systems signaling to the transmission properties of the channel. This requires a knowledge of instantaneous channel characteristics, in terms of the specific parameters of stochastic models. The wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) assumption simplifies the estimation of terrestrial wireless channel transmission properties. Although UAC channels are hardly ever WSSUS, the rationale of such a stochastic modeling is that over a short period of time, and for a limited frequency range, this assumption is reasonably satisfied. The limits of application of the local-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (LSSUS) model are determined by the stationary time and frequency. This paper presents the results of LSSUS model analysis for UAC channel measurements gathered by the former Research Department for Underwater Acoustics and Marine Geophysics (FWG), now part of the WTD71, during the SIMO experiment in the Bornholm Basin of the Baltic Sea.

Methylglyoxal is an endogenous electrophile produced in Escherichia coli by the enzyme methylglyoxal synthase to limit the accumulation of phosphorylated sugars. In enteric bacteria methylglyoxal is detoxified by the glutathione-dependent glyoxalase I/II system, by glyoxalase III, and by aldehyde reductase and alcohol dehydrogenase. Here we demonstrate that glyoxalase III is a stationary-phase enzyme. Its activity reached a maximum at the entry into the stationary phase and remained high for at least 20 h. An rpoS- mutant displayed normal glyoxalase I and II activities but was unable to induce glyoxalase III in stationary phase. It thus appears that glyoxalase III is regulated by rpoS and might be important for survival of non-growing E. coli cultures.

Opis:
The theoretical aspects of a new type of piezo-resistive pressure sensors for environments with rapidly changing temperatures are presented. The idea is that the sensor has two identical diaphragms which have different coefficients of linear thermal expansion. Therefore, when measuring pressure in environments with variable temperature, the diaphragms will have different deflection. This difference can be used to make appropriate correction of the sensor output signal and, thus, to increase accuracy of measurement. Since physical principles of sensors operation enable fast correction of the output signal, the sensor can be used in environments with rapidly changing temperature, which is its essential advantage. The paper presents practical implementation of the proposed theoretical aspects and the results of testing the developed sensor.

The underwater acoustical channel is time-variant, and even on small time scales there is often existing no ‘acoustical frozen ocean’. Popular is the use of WSSUS-channel transmission modeling (Wide-Sense Stationary Uncorrelated Scattering) for the stochastic description of bandpass signals in GSM mobile phones with moving participants; since this results in a halved number of model parameters. For underwater sound applications such as detection, navigation and communication this approach provides limited a-priori-knowledge for adaptive algorithms with moving cooperative participants. The FWG of the WTD71 is collecting phase-accurate channel measurements from different sea areas in different time and application scenarios, with moving and stationary communication nodes since 2001. This paper presents a SIMO experiment from 2010, with a high precision continuous observation period of eleven hours using two stationary bottom nodes, mostly uncoupled from the influence of surface waves and from the sea floor. Transmitter and receiver node with a distance of two nautical miles between them were stationary installed on the bottom in shallow watersin the Bornholm Basin of the Baltic Sea. The sound speed has been measured continuously in the water column with a moving measurement chain. The question for this experiment was: Is the WSSUS-property fulfilled in water, when participants communicate motionless with negligible current, bottom influence and movements of the surface? The answer is: No, not in this experiment.

The simplest version of minority game is introduced. It is shown how the minority game can result from the behaviour of individuals. The stability analysis of stationary state is briefly discussed. The modification of the game is described which leads to Nash equilibra as stationary states.
W ostatnich latach obserwuje się wzrastające zainteresowanie zastosowaniami metod fizyki statystycznej w matematycznej teorii rynków finansowych. Okazuje się, że takie idee i metody mechaniki statystycznej, jak równania stochastyczne, rozkłady Gibbsa, przejścia fazowe czy teoria fluktuacji znakomicie nadają się do opisu zjawisk cechujących rynki finansowe. W referacie podaję zwięzłą dyskusję analizy metodami fizyki matematycznej prostego modelu giełdy - gry mniejszościowej, zdefiniowanej jako gra, w której w każdym kroku zyskuje gracz, który podejmuje decyzję taką jak mniejszość graczy. Okazuje się, że standardowe metody fizyki (funkcja Ljapunowa, równanie Langevina, teoria fluktuacji) pozwalają dokładnie opisać stany stacjonarne gry łącznie z takimi własnościami, jak jednoznaczność, minimalizacja przewidywalności, duże fluktuacje w fazie symetrycznej itp.

A one-to-one correspondence between locally square integrable periodically correlated (PC) processes and a certain class of infinite-dimensional stationary processes is obtained. The correspondence complements and clarifies Gladyshev's known result [3] describing the correlation function of a continuous periodically correlated process. In contrast to Gladyshev's paper, the procedure for explicit reconstruction of one process from the other is provided. A representation of a PC process as a unitary deformation of a periodic function is derived and is related to the correspondence mentioned above. Some consequences of this representation are discussed.
