Opis:
Let G be a simple graph without isolated vertices with vertex set V (G) and edge set E(G) and let k be a positive integer. A function ƒ: E(G) →{−1, 1} is said to be a signed star k-dominating function on [formula] for every vertex v of G, where E(v) = {uv ∈ E(G) | u ∈ N(v)}. A set {f1, f2, . . . , fd} of signed star k-dominating functions on G with the property that [formula] for each e ∈ E(G) is called a signed star (k, k)-dominating family (of functions) on G. The maximum number of functions in a signed star (k, k)-dominating family on G is the signed star (k, k)-domatic number of G, denoted by [formula]. In this paper we study properties of the signed star (k, k)-domatic number [formula]. In particular, we present bounds on [formula], and we determine the signed (k, k)-domatic number of some regular graphs. Some of our results extend these given by Atapour, Sheikholeslami, Ghameslou and Volkmann [Signed star domatic number of a graph, Discrete Appl. Math. 158 (2010), 213–218] for the signed star domatic number.

Opis:
The star $k$-edge-coloring of graph $G$ is a proper edge coloring using $k$ colors such that no path or cycle of length four is bichromatic. The minimum number $k$ for which $G$ admits a star $k$-edge-coloring is called the star chromatic index of $G$, denoted by $χ_s^′(G)$. Let $GCD(n, k)$ be the greatest common divisor of $n$ and $k$. In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition of $χ_s^′(P(n, k)) = 4$ for a generalized Petersen graph $P(n, k)$ and show that “almost all” generalized Petersen graphs have a star 5-edge-colorings. Furthermore, for any two integers $k$ and $n(≥2k + 1)$ such that $GCD(n, k) ≥ 3, P (n, k)$ has a star 5-edge-coloring, with the exception of the case that $GCD(n, k) = 3$, $k ≠ GCD(n, k)$ and \(\frac{n}{3}≡1(mod3)\).

Opis:
Consider the problem of transforming a star (delta) into an equivalent delta (star) in a reliability network with imperfect undirected edges and perfect vertices. It is believed that such transformations are not possible in general if the probabilities of the elements of the given star / delta are rational numbers. Contrary to this, it is shown here that star – delta and delta – star transformations are possible under certain conditions. Further the probability of success of an element of an equivalent star (delta) is shown to be equal to the probability of failure of the corresponding element of the given delta (star).

Opis:
A spanning subgraph $F$ of a graph $G$ is called a star-cycle factor of $G$ if each component of $F$ is a star or cycle. Let $G$ be a graph and $f : V (G) → {1, 2, 3, . . .}$ be a function. Let $W = {v ∈ V (G) : f(v) = 1}$. Under this notation, it was proved by Berge and Las Vergnas that G has a star-cycle factor $F$ with the property that (i) if a component $D$ of $F$ is a star with center $v$, then $deg_F (v) ≤ f(v)$, and (ii) if a component $D$ of $F$ is a cycle, then $V (D) ⊆ W$ if and only if $iso(G − S) ≤ Σ_{x∈S} f(x)$ for all $S ⊂ V (G)$, where $iso(G − S)$ denotes the number of isolated vertices of $G − S$. They proved this result by using circulation theory of flows and fractional factors of graphs. In this paper, we give an elementary and short proof of this theorem.

Let G be a graph and f : V (G) → {2, 3, . . .}. A spanning subgraph F is called strong f-star of G if each component of F is a star whose center x satisfies degF (x) ≤ ƒ(x) and F is an induced subgraph of G. In this paper, we prove that G has a strong f-star factor if and only if oddca(G − S) ≤ ∑x∊S ƒ(x) for all S ⊂ V (G), where oddca(G) denotes the number of odd complete-cacti of G.

Opis:
Multiparticle production at high energies is described in terms of color strings stretched between the projectile and target. As string density increases, overlap among the strings leads to cluster formation. At some critical density, a macroscopic cluster appears, spanning the entire system. This marks the percolation phase transition. Data from p+p, d+Au and Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV has been analyzed using the STAR detector to obtain the percolation density parameter, eta. For 200 GeV Au+Au collisions, the value of h is found to lie above the critical percolation threshold, while for 200 GeV d+Au collisions it is below the critical value. This supports the idea of string percolation, which at high enough string density is a possible mechanism to explore the hadronic phase transition to a quark-gluon plasma.

This paper contains a number of results in the theory of star partitions of graphs. We illustrate a variety of situations which can arise when the Reconstruction Theorem for graphs is used, considering in particular galaxy graphs - these are graphs in which every star set is independent. We discuss a recursive ordering of graphs based on the Reconstruction Theorem, and point out the significance of galaxy graphs in this connection.

Let F, G and H be graphs. A (G, H)-decomposition of F is a partition of the edge set of F into copies of G and copies of H with at least one copy of G and at least one copy of H. For R ⊆ F, a (G, H)-covering of F with padding R is a (G, H)-decomposition of F + E(R). A (G, H)-covering of F with the smallest cardinality is a minimum (G, H)-covering. This paper gives the solution of finding the minimum (Ck, Sk)-covering of the crown Cn,n−1.
