The International Berriasian Working Group (ISCS) suggested primary and secondary marker “datums” to fix the basal Berriasian boundary and thus to detine the Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary (Wimbledon et al., 2011, 2013). Two primary markers Calpionella, as well as calcareous nannoplankton, are practically unknown in the Boreal Realm. Testing and calibration of these markers, as well as of fossils of radiolarians and other signals, in the most complete sections, were declared as an important task for the near future. In the Tethys, the Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary based on radiolarians falls inside zone UAZ 13 of Baumgartner et al. (1995), whereas in the palaeo-Pacific it corresponds to the boundary between zones 4 and 5 of Pessagno et al. (2009), and in boreal Siberia it probably falls between the biohorizons of Parvicingula haeckeli and P. khabakovi. The radiolarian events at the Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary in the boreal successions of Russia can be proposed to be used as an additional biomarker to help develop new integrated boundary criteria. Thus, as the first appearance of the zonal species Calpionella alpina, which defines the Jurassic and Cretaceous boundary, coincides with the first occurrence of the calcareous dinocyst zonal species Stomiosphaerina proxima (Reháková, 2000), it is logical to propose a calcareous dinoflagellate, widely represented in the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Bazhenovo Formation of Siberia, as a secondary marker.

The North Atlantic Oscillation is a macroscale type of circulation determining climate and hydrological conditions in Europe. The paper presents water level fluctuations in 19 Polish lakes in various phases of NAO of the winter season in the years 1976-2010. Correlations of the winter NAO index with monthly, seasonal, maximum, and minimum water stages, and annual water level amplitudes in lakes were calculated. Approximately 20% of the performed tests showed statistical significance. Lakes were recorded where the correlations were significant in a major part of the year, as well as lakes showing no significant correlations in any month. Deviations of mean water stages in the positive and negative phase of NAO from mean water stages were calculated for each of the lakes. This permitted classifying the lakes into two groups by Ward’s method based on deviations of water stages in the positive and negative phase of NAODJFM from average values. This resulted in the designation of 4 and 5 typological classes of lakes, respectively. Deviations of water stages in lakes in various phases of NAODJFM from mean values were determined to even exceed 20 cm. The study results can find practical applications in reference to water retention. In view of the observed environmental changes, it is possible that the hydrotechnical infrastructure on lakes will have to be developed in the future. Such a situation will permit the precise control of water level fluctuations for the purpose of the optimal adaptation of lakes for economic purposes.

Good mental health in childhood and adolescence is a prerequisite for optimal development, effective learning, build satisfying relationships with people, taking care of one’s own physical health, and self-management in adult life. Psychological well-being means life satisfaction and covers various aspects of life: school, family, friends, hobbies, etc. Thus, the status of well-being among students is vital for their psychological functioning. The aim of the present study was to identify selected aspects of the mental well-being of students at different stages of education. Study participants included fifty-nine students aged between 12 and 19 years (both males and females). The participants filled out a questionnaire concerning various aspects of life satisfaction and social functioning, designed specifically for the study. The results show that girls are more satisfied from their lives than boys, but they assess their own’s coping competencies lower than boys. Younger students show higher levels of general life satisfaction and better coping skills, although they more often have conflicting relationships with teachers. The results suggest that particular attention should be paid to older students, especially girls.

Choleoeimeria bunopusi sp. n. is described from the gall bladder of the tuberculated gecko Bunopus tuberculatus in Saudi Arabia. The prevalence of infection was 13.3% (2/15). Oocysts were ellipsoidal and measured 31 (30–33) × 21 (20–22) μm. Sporocysts were dizoic, elliptical in shape and measured 12 (11–13) × 7 (6–8) μm. The endogenous development was confined to the gall bladder epithelium. The hypertrophic parasitized biliary epithelium either remained in one layer or became stratified. Meronts, gamonts, and young oocysts were detected.

The general theory of crisis stages in the cultural development of children has been outlined in the article. Nowadays such a theory seems to be extremely needed. It enables understanding of why developmental crises clearly intensify and which forms of their course favour the construction/formation or destruction of the cultural development. The formulation of such a general theory of crisis stages in the cultural development of children is of particular importance for pedagogical practices. This type of psychological reflection can become a basis of the pedagogics of the crisis stages in the cultural development of children, postulated by Vygotsky many years ago.

The article presents 200MW LP turbine stage calculations taking into account leakage flows over rotor blades in the regeneration extraction point area. A methodology is described which allows the user to shorten the time-consuming CFD calculations solving the Navier-Stokes equation system in the examined area. A two-stage procedure was applied in which two types of calculations were coupled together. The first type is a one-to-one passage calculation of a steam flow through the turbine stages in the vicinity of the extraction point. This type of calculations preserves the circumferential periodicity condition. The second type is a circumferentially non-symmetrical calculation of the flow through an inter-stage diffuser with an extraction chamber. The calculations were preformed using 3D CFD codes, FlowER and FLUENT, in the two above mentioned areas, respectively. The solution was found using an iterative procedure for these areas coupled by boundary conditions, until convergence of calculations was reached.

Magnetite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite are the major minerals identified in the deposit, while ilmenite, marcasite, tennantite, cubanite, arsenopyrite, galena, allanite, chevkinite, apatite, Bi-native, bismuthinite, electrum, native gold, and tellurides are the minor ones in the Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) Sin Quyen deposit. The REEs are hosted mostly by allanite, and the minor minerals by chevkinite, monazite, apatite and uraninite. Based on chemical analyses and Raman spectroscopy, two varieties of allanite have been documented: (1) with lower total REE contents of 13-19 wt.%, and (2) with higher contents of 20-23 wt.%. Uraninite from copper-iron massive ores is inhomogeneous in both optical properties and chemical composition. The concentrations of uranium and total rare earth element oxides (REOs) in the paragenetically earlier uraninite are 84.55-85.96% and 1.9-8.0% on average, respectively, whereas in paragenetically later uraninite, the U and ΣREE2O3 concentrations are 96.2-96.7% and 1.3-2.7% on average respectively. The thorium concentration in both the early and late uraninites is very low (0.21-0.22% and 0.2 % on average). These are the highest REE concentrations as compared with the known concentrations of these elements in uraninite. Electron microprobe “chemical” dating of the uraninite yielded an age of 500 ±33 Ma (n = 35) for the paragenetically early uraninite, and an age of 73 ±15 Ma (n = 6) for the paragenetically later ones. The minerals of the older age, which is interpreted as the primary ore mineralization stage, correspond in age with a range of deposits along the East Gondwana margin. The measured δ34S of sulphide minerals from -2.78 to +8.65‰ suggests hydrothermal origin of fluid that was responsible for transportation and crystallization.

The objective of this research was to examine the concentrations of crude protein, P, K, Mg, Fe, Mn and Zn of 5 triticale genotypes and 2 barley cultivars (two-row) at different growth stages. The experiments were carried out at Süleyman Demirel University farm in Isparta during the growing season of 2012-2013. Three hexaploid triticale lines (SDÜ- 21, SDÜ-27, SDÜ-43) and 2 cultivars (Karma-2000 and Tatlıcak-97), and two-row barley cultivars (Hamidiye and Cumhuriyet) were used in the experiment. The experimental design was a randomized split block design with three replication. The genotypes were used as main plots and growth stage were used as sub-plots. The basic pre-sowing fertilization rates for all plots were 30 kg N·ha-1 and 50 kg P·ha-1, the rest of 30 kg N·ha-1 was applied at the early spring (stem-elongation stage). Plants were harvested at four stages, stem elongation, milk development, dough development and mature stage. Samples taken from each plot were dried to constant weight at 65°C in oven. After cooling, the samples were milled for crude protein and mineral element analyses. According to the results of variance analysis, the nutrient concentrations of triticale and barley genotypes showed variations depending on the genotypes and different growth stages. The crude protein content of barley cultivars were higher than triticale genotypes. The concentration of K, Fe, Mn and Zn in whole plants decreased from stem elongation to maturity, while Mg and P contents increased. Crude protein rate (18.59%) at dough development stage was higher than other growth stages. The nitrogen use efficiency of SDÜ-27 line, which can be used for cultivar registration, was higher than control cultivar (Karma - 2000; Tatlıcak-1997).

Leaves from three fig (Ficus carica L.) varieties (White, Black Royal and White Royal) were collected at different development stages of the tree, i.e. flowering, fruit development, fruit maturity, and postharvest, after which the variation of macro- (K, Na, Ca, Mg, N, P) and micronutrient (Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, B) concentrations during the growing season were measured. The leaf concentrations of N, P, K, Ca and Mg during the studied period for the White variety ranged from 19 to 25, from 1.1 to 1.3, from 13 to 18, from 20 to 24 and from 2.7 to 2.9 g kg-1 (on dry weight basis DW), respectively. The corresponding values for the Black Royal variety ranged from 22 to 26, from 1.1 to 1.4, from 13 to 19, from 23 to 29 and from 2.5 to 3.4 g kg-1 (DW), respectively. The corresponding values for the White Royal variety ranged from 19 to 25, 0.9 to 1.2, 10 to 17, 26 to 30 and 4.3 to 4.5 g kg-1 (DW), respectively. The leaf content values of Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, and B during the studied period for the White variety ranged from 107 to 147, from 42 to 35, from 10 to 9, from 52 to 61 and from 23 to 40 mg kg-1 (DW), respectively. The corresponding values for the Black Royal variety ranged from 77 to 155, from 38 to 41, from 8 to 9, from 52 to 66 and from 23 to 56 mg kg-1 (DW), respectively. The corresponding values for the White Royal variety ranged from 84 to 126, from 44 to 48, from 8 to 9, from 88 to 98 and from 23 to 47 mg kg-1 (DW), respectively. According to the results, the leaf nutritional content varies in the plant’s development stages and there were differences between the fig varieties in the nutrient content at different development stages, which indicated that different varieties of plants need different amounts of nutrients during the growing cycle. These results should be taken into consideration when elaborating a fertilization program.

The paper presents modernisation of the steam turbine stage situated in front of the turbine extraction point, based on a 225 MW turbine LP stage as an example. The modernised design is intended to better control the steam flow in this area. In the presented design a special ring is used to drive the steam leakage flow directly to the heat exchanger. The performed experiments and numerical analyses confirmed measurable exploitation and efficiency advantages of the introduced modernisation. So far, it has been successfully applied in a number of turbines working in inland power plants, but its use can be easily extended, without need for further modification and without advantage loss, to marine turbines, especially those used as main propulsion in sea-going vessels.

Septins belong to GTPases that are involved in vital cellular activities, including cytokinesis. Although present in many organisms, they are yet to be isolated from Aedes albopictus. This study reports for the first time on a serendipitous isolation of a partial septin sequence from Ae. albopictus and its developmental expression profile. The Ae. albopictus partial septin sequence contains 591 nucleotides encoding 197 amino acids. It shares homology with several insect septin genes and has a close phylogenetic relationship with Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus septins. The Ae. albopictus septin fragment was differentially expressed in the mosquito's developmental stages, with an increased expression in the adults.

This paper presents an analysis of groundwater from the intakes “Park” and “Motława” situated in Tczew (Poland). These water intakes have varied hydrological conditions and volume of utilized resources (wells). In this area, the deepest drillings extend to 180 m (cretaceous stage) with 20% being constituted by tertiary-quaternary formations with depths ranging from 60 to 63.7 m. The distribution of water from the intakes depended on the population to which it was supplied and the average production of water ranged from 5,802.4 to 7,591.5 m3 per day on “Motława” intake and from 3,196.3 to 4,125.4 m3/day on “Park” intake and did not exceed the production capacity specified by the regulations. In 1994–2009, analyses of water intended for consumption from the above-mentioned intakes in Tczew were performed by testing the water reaction and the content of ammonium ions and chlorides. In the period of the studies, the permissible reaction was not exceeded and the concentrations of ammonium ion and chlorides were on a relatively steady level.
