This paper focuses on the analysis of a power factor correction (PFC) converter using close loop Ĉuk topology. Regardless of the input line voltage and output load variations, input current drawn by the buck or buck-boost converter is always discontinuous. The Boost converter suffers from high voltage stresses across the power electronic devices. The input current in Ĉuk converter is comparable to boost converter’s input current. In this paper output voltage is controlled by inner current and outer voltage control loop along with power factor correction (PFC). It shows less input current THD (less than 5%), nearly unity power factor and better output voltage regulation of AC-DC converter under variable input voltage and output load. Small signal model analysis is presented for obtaining frequency response of the control loop. The MATLAB Simulink programming environment is used as a simulation tool.

This paper proposes two nonlinear exact and simple state space models of a Zsource converter (ZSC) connected to an ac grid. A generic model of a ZSC accompanied with proper controllers are proposed and a dynamic model of the whole system is derived; as a result, based on a simple one, an equivalent block diagram of the current-controlled ZSC system is proposed. The ac small signal stability method is applied and the impact of controller parameters on network’s stability is discussed. Besides, overall system dynamic performance has been assessed in the event of perturbations. Time-domain simulations have been implemented in PSCAD/EMTDC to validate the accuracy of the models and effectiveness of the proposed controllers. The results of the exact model are compared with the response of the equations which are applied in MATLAB.

Plate-like structures in channel flow are commonly found in engineering. This paper reports a theoretical study on the static aeroelastic instability of an inverted cantilevered plate in an inviscid channel flow through the state space. This study begins with the kernel function of the flow potential determined in the Fourier domain with the help of the mirror image method. Then, the instability equation is derived from the operator theory and transformed in the state space. Finally, with Glauert’s expansion, model functions, and error functions, the instability problem of such a plate has been modeled as a mathematical function approximation problem and solved by the least squares method. The derived instability equation is considered at the continuum level of description, and no approximation appears at the first equation level. The convergence and reliability of the proposed modeling and its solutions approximation are entirely tested, and it can successfully predict the instability boundary, behavior, and the channel effect. Numerical results show that the decreased channel height and asymmetric plate placement in the channel significantly decrease the critical flow velocity. The plate instability modes are close to the plate’s first natural ones and not sensitive to the channel parameters. This conclusion allows further theoretical exploration of a semi-analytical approximation of the instability boundary from the obtained instability equation. The current modeling strategy in a continuum sense may provide a new idea and essential reference for other instability problems.

The paper presents selected research results concerning the identification and simulation of the TGE S.A. Day-Ahead Market (DAM) system of the day for electricity delivered and sold, listed for the following hours: 5:01-6:00, 11:01-12:00, 17:01-18:00 and 23:01-24:00 in 2019, which were obtained in the MATLAB and Simulink environment using the System Identification Toolbox. As a result of identification, four respective discrete parametric arx models were obtained, which were then subject to quality assessment. Then, a simulation model was built in the Simulink environment, which was used for simulation tests and for assessing the sensitivity of the model created using the data from 2019 as the basis and the data from 2020 for verification. The obtained results confirm the correctness of both the performed discrete parametric identification and the possibility of testing the quality of the model and its sensitivity with the use of the DAM system model in the MATLAB and Simulink environment.

Opis:
In this work, the state-space nonlocal strain gradient theory is used for the vibration analysis of piezoelectric functionally graded material (FGM) nanobeam. Power law relations are used to describe the computing analysis of FGM constituent properties. The refined higherorder beam theory and Hamilton’s principle are used to obtain the equations of motion of the piezoelectric nanobeam. Besides, the governing equations of the piezoelectric nanobeam are extracted by the developed nonlocal state-space theory, and the analytical wave dispersion method is used to solve wave propagation problems. The real and imaginary solutions for wave frequency, loss factor and wave number are obtained and presented in graphs.

The purpose of the article is to establish and research the features of space state information policy, which requires the following research tasks to be revealed: to determine the place and role of information policy in the structure of state policy and to establish the dependence of the state's information policy on the development of the space industry and to determine the features of the information policy of the USA as a space state. The USA forms its information policy based on knowledge of the use of advanced technologies, including information technologies, in the space industry. Knowing about the threats of their use, the state warns the population by regulating information activities. Therefore, the information policy of a space state is more developed than that of non-space states. An analysis of the relationship between the state of information policy and the state of the US space industry indicates that the development of one area aects the other. Therefore, in order to implement an eective information policy, both areas should be developed.

Opis:
Within the framework of the author’s scientific research, three types of communicative models of the world’s states were identified, which reflect the basic principles of building state information policy and reflect the key characteristics of the political system. Among them are subsidiary, vertical, and transitional models. The institutional method was used to prove the specifics of the state as a political institution that is the bearer of national images, as well as the role and degree of influence of public policy on the formation of ideas about the state in the external information space, on the policy of promoting and transforming these images, with an emphasis on the actions of those states that shape the global political discourse of today. The authors propose an integral model of state’s public image formation, which provides for the synergy of actors of public diplomacy. The result of its implementation is the formation of the components of the state image (regional, multicultural, culinary, educational, expert) together with official products (national symbols, reputation characteristics, socio-economic development indicators, rating indicators and e-diplomacy products) «from below». Both the central government and local communities in the context of the implementation of «bottom-up» policy should be involved in the realization of a successful image formation policy. The authors emphasize that the policy of state’s image formation in the external information space should be considered as a multifaceted component of the foreign policy of the state. The tools, channels and subjects of formation and adjustment of the stateʼs image should be embedded in each of the vectors of foreign policy- in security, diplomatic, economic, social, legal, and directly information vectors.
У рамках авторських наукових пошуків виділено три типи комунікативних моделей держав світу, що відображають базові принципи побудови державної інформаційної політики та віддзеркалюють найважливіші характеристики політичної системи. Серед них – субсидіарна, вертикальна та перехідна моделі. За допомогою інституційного методу проаналізовано специфіку держави як політичного інституту, що є носієм загальнонаціональних образів, а також роль і ступінь впливу саме державної політики на формування уявлень про державу в зовнішньому інформаційному просторі, на політику просування і трансформації цих іміджів з акцентом на дії тих держав, які формують глобальний політичний дискурс сучасності. Автори пропонують інтегральну модель формування публічного іміджу держави, що передбачає синергію суб’єктів публічної дипломатії. Результатом її має стати формування «знизу» частини складових іміджу держави (регіональних, полікультурних, кулінарних, освітніх, експертних) разом з офіційними продуктами (державними символами, репутаційними характеристиками, соціально-економічними показниками розвитку, рейтинговими індикаторами та продуктами цифрової дипломатії). Для реалізації успішної політики формування іміджу слід залучати і центральну владу, і локальні громади в контексті впровадження політики «знизу». Автори наголошують на тому, що політику формування іміджу держави в зовнішньому інформаційному просторі слід розглядати як багатоаспектний складник зовнішньополітичного курсу держави. Інструменти, канали та суб’єкти формування і коригування іміджу держави мають бути закладені в кожному з векторів зовнішньої політики, а саме в безпековому, дипломатичному, економічному, соціальному, правовому та безпосередньо інформаційному.

Bridge passing and passing waterway locks are two of the most challenging phases for inland vessel navigation. In order to be able to automate these critical phases very precise and reliable position, navigation and timing (PNT) information are required. Here, the application of code-based positioning using signals of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) is not sufficient anymore and phase-based positioning needs to be applied. Due to the larger coverage area and the reduction of the amount of correction data Precise Point Positioning (PPP) has significant advantages compared to the established Real Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning. PPP is seen as the key enabler for highly automatic driving for both road and inland waterway transport. This paper gives an overview of the current status of the developments of the PPP algorithm, which should finally be applied in advanced driver assistant functions. For the final application State Space Representation (SSR) correction data from SAPOS (Satellitenpositionierungsdienst der deutschen Landesvermessung) will be used, which will be transmitted over VDES (VHF Data Exchange System), the next generation AIS.

Quarterly employment rates in European countries are analysed in terms of the likelihood of achieving a specific employment rate within age and gender groups in a five-year horizon. The German employment rate serves as a benchmark for this research. The likelihood is estimated by a Monte-Carlo simulation based on the class of exponential smoothing models. The research presents a pessimistic prognosis of employment rates in European countries with respect to young and partly to older workers.

Opis:
Two approximate representations are proposed for distributed parameter systems described by two linear hyperbolic PDEs with two time- and space-dependent state variables and two collocated boundary inputs. Using the method of lines with the backward difference scheme, the original PDEs are transformed into a set of ODEs and expressed in the form of a finite number of dynamical subsystems (sections). Each section of the approximation model is described by state-space equations with matrix-valued state, input and output operators, or, equivalently, by a rational transfer function matrix. The cascade interconnection of a number of sections results in the overall approximation model expressed in finite-dimensional state-space or rational transfer function domains, respectively. The discussion is illustrated with a practical example of a parallel-flow double-pipe heat exchanger. Its steady-state, frequency and impulse responses obtained from the original infinite-dimensional representation are compared with those resulting from its approximate models of different orders. The results show better approximation quality for the “crossover” input–output channels where the in-domain effects prevail as compared with the “straightforward” channels, where the time-delay phenomena are dominating.

This paper deals with the problems of religious coexistence in late-imperial Russia based on the case of Buryatia. The only state religion – Russian Orthodoxy – saw its task in converting the non-Russians by all possible means and in shortest time. This policy coincided with the interests of the state, as religious homogenization was considered the most effective way to achieve the desired loyalty and patriotism among all subjects of the Empire. Buddhism, which according to the Orthodox clergy was a so-called foreign religion, presented a potential threat to the state, as its believers could be under influences from abroad. The author argues that the secular authorities both in St. Petersburg and in Eastern Siberia faced a dilemma that consisted in the necessity to conduct Russification among non-Russians and simultaneously to strengthen the borders of the Empire in the East. The Buryat subjects were officially allowed to confess Buddhism, since the authorities, being aware of danger from Qing China, needed a balanced policy towards them to avoid discontent and disturbances. Under such conditions, the Orthodox clergy, missionaries in particular, disregarding the damage their intolerance could cause to the state’s interests, became opponents to Siberian officials, accusing them of supporting Buddhism and Buddhist priesthood instead of rendering all possible assistance in the Christianization of non-Russians.

Opis:
The elements of critical infrastructure have to meet demanding dependability, safety and security requirements. The article deals with the prognosis of water mains reliability while using sparse irregular filed data. The data are sparse because the only thing we know is the number of mains failures during a given month. Since it is possible to transform the data into a typical reliability measure (rate of failure occurrence – ROCOF), we can examine the course of this measure development in time. In order to model and predict the ROCOF development, we suggest novel single and multiple error state space models. The results can be used for i) optimizing mains operation and maintenance, ii) estimating life cycle cost, and iii) planning crisis management.
Elementy infrastruktury krytycznej muszą spełniać wysokie wymagania w zakresie niezawodności, bezpieczeństwa i ochrony. Artykuł dotyczy prognozowania niezawodności sieci wodociągowej przy wykorzystaniu nieregularnie rejestrowanych rzadkich danych. Wykorzystane w pracy dane są rzadkie, ponieważ dostarczają jedynie informacji na temat liczby uszkodzeń wodociągu w danym miesiącu. Przekształcenie tych danych w typową miarę niezawodności (wskaźnik występowania uszkodzeń – ROCOF), pozwala zbadać przebieg rozwoju tej miary w czasie. Rozwój ROCOF można modelować i przewidywać za pomocą zaproponowanych w pracy innowacyjnych modeli przestrzeni stanów uwzględniających pojedynczy błąd lub wiele błędów. Uzyskane wyniki można wykorzystać do i) optymalizacji pracy i eksploatacji sieci wodociągowej, ii) szacowania kosztów cyklu życia, oraz iii) planowania zarządzania kryzysowego.

In this paper the identification problem is considered for initial conditions in a non-minimal state-space model that includes interpretable state variables generated by non-stationary stochastic processes. In order to solve the identification problem, structural restrictions are imposed on initial conditions in a state-space model with redundant state variables. The corresponding restricted maximum likelihood estimator of initial conditions is derived. The restricted estimator of initial conditions can be used in order to compute uniquely identified realizations of interpretable latent variables. This study analyses the role of rare earth elements (REE) as critical resources for the energy security. This research presents the developments in the global REE extraction, i.e. the dominance of the Republic of China, which attempts to maintain and control its monopoly. The typical and novel uses of rare earth metals were presented in various applications, such as in advanced electronic and information technologies utilised in the aerospace and energy industries. Bearing in mind their vital importance to the manufacturing of high-tech products, the REE deposits are of strategic importance for the USA, the Republic of China and for the European Union. Striving to maintain the independence of raw materials, the USA is focused on the search for raw materials on its territory and furthermore on waiving the legal restrictions with respect to their extraction. China is primarily occupied with maintaining the monopoly and control over the global market of critical raw materials, including REE. The activities within the European Union concentrate on the exploration in search for the REE deposits in Europe and ensuring the continuity of supplies by maintaining good diplomatic relations with partners – the USA and Japan. In addition, extensive REE recycling initiatives are being undertaken in the EU. Further rare earth metals extraction is anticipated to extend to the outer space. However, developing the economically viable methods of extraction remains the major challenge faced by space mining, given that it requires establishing an expensive, permanent space infrastructure. What is more, mining and processing of rare earth metals raises serious environmental concerns, as it involves such hazards as radioactive products, toxic chemical compounds and waste generation. With respect to the environmental protection, this study also addresses the issues of REE substitutes and recycling. It is concluded that the environmental protection practices regarding the long-term extraction and use of REE (with a 2030 horizon) will bring substantial long-term financial benefits.

The results of the study presented in this paper demonstrate that a structural model of the natural interest rate, which is consistent with the standard assumptions of the natural rate theory, admits an interpretable, observationally equivalent representation in which a redefined, 'unnatural' equilibrium rate is different from the natural rate in the original model. The alternative representation was obtained by an invertible transformation implemented in the minimal state-space form of the natural-rate model. The identification theory for state-space models is used in the paper to prove the observational equivalence of these two representations. In the alternative representation, the equilibrium interest rate fails to meet the assumption of the natural rate theory, because it depends on past demand shocks. The alternative model, being observationally equivalent, has different implications for the conduct of monetary policy. The problem of observational equivalence arises in relation to natural-rate models because of the inherent unobservability of the natural interest rate; a potential solution to this problem could be the augmentation of the information set which is used to identify and estimate the natural rate.
