Opis:
The discovery of conifer somatic embryogenesis (SE) and the subsequent development of SE protocols for a range of genera and species have opened new research opportunities to forest biotechnologists and a means towards mass clonal propagation for the forest industry. This paper provides a general description of the conifer SE process, followed by a review of protocols developed specifically for several conifer species in the Pinaceae family for which production of somatic trees has been demonstrated. Additionally, future research needs, including approaches for developing markers to optimize SE process and the production of high quality embryos, are discussed.

Opis:
Somatic embryogenesis (SE) of conifers for clonal propagation has emerged from its earliest beginnings in 1980 to become an integral component of tree improvement strategies. With its capacity for long-term germplasm preservation and scale-up technologies,it is seen to be the preferred avenue to accelerate selection and operational deployment of value-added genotypes. At present, programs for numerous species from the Pinaceae family are underway worldwide, with activities ranging from selection trials to pilot production for plantation forestry. This paper will provide a review of current efforts in conifer SE including cryopreservation, commercialization and deployment strategies, and transgenics. A discussion of challenges and issues is directed at genetic fidelity, intellectual property and future needs.

The subject of analysis are Polish and Bulgarian idioms with the nominal component oko – oczy / ... – ... [eye – eyes]. An ideographic model of somatic idiom systematization based on the anthropocentric scheme of ideas by the Russian researcher Tatiana Nikitina was used for their presentation. The author focused on group one of the model. It comprises idioms that refer to the man, including to the man as a living and acting being and his internal world. When defining the man as a living and acting being, one can distinguish his characteristic features, process and conditions that are connected with different periods of life, physique, existential needs, physical condition, general sensation, sense perception, feelings and physical activity. The idioms excerpted in the article cover almost all of the above areas.

Opis:
Somatic embryogenesis is the latest, and potentially the most efficient, method for the vegetative micropropagation of plants. Over the past three decades, numerous laboratory studies have investigated somatic embryogenesis of forest trees, yielding positive results for a number of economically important tree species. The first test trials were run and plantations were planted with interior spruce in the 90s by CellFor Inc. (Canada). However, at the beginning of the XXI century, the program to produce spruce and Douglas fir somatic seedlings was stopped for economic reasons. Thus, currently no operational program is ongoing except on a small scale in New Brunswick. In order to integrate somatic embryogenesis technology into operational reforestation programs, the production costs of forest tree somatic seedlings needs to be reduced, and the awareness of foresters and forest landowners that the material obtained through somatic embryogenesis is valuable needs to be increased. This awareness would enable implementation of this technology on a large scale for production and forest management throughout Europe including Poland. In this review, the importance of somatic embryogenesis in scientific research and in global and European forestry is presented. Our main aims are to provide basic information on the challenges in researching somatic embryogenesis of forest trees and to raise interest in this tree propagation technique in both scientists and foresters.

Many chrysanthemum mutants are chimeras built from tissues of a varied genetic composition. Regeneration in vitro of somatic embryos from the whole mutated ligulate florets or only from their small mutated fragments can lead to the separation of chimera components and, as a result, producing a new original cultivar. There was determined the effect of growth regulators (2,4-D; KIN or BAP) and explant type (whole or transversely-cut-into-half ligulate florets) on the efficiency of somatic embryogenesis of Chrysanthemum × grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitam. ‘Cool Time’. For the induction of the somatic embryogenesis ant the regeneration of somatic embryos the MS medium [Murashige and Skoog 1962] with 18.08 μM 2,4-D as well as with this auxin and 4.44; 8.88; 22.20 μM BAP or 4.65; 9.30; 23.25 μM KIN was used. The best results were obtained when transversely-cut-into-half ligulate florets were inoculated onto the medium with 4.65 μM KIN and 18.08 μM 2,4-D. This results may increase the probability of success in separation of chimera components in chrysanthemum breeding.

Kitam. ‘Cool Time’. Do indukcji embriogenezy somatycznej oraz do regeneracji zarodków somatycznych zastosowano pożywkę MS [Murashige and Skoog 1962] uzupełnioną jedynie 18,08 μM 2,4-D, a także tą auksyną oraz 4,44; 8,88; 22,20 μM BAP lub 4,65; 9,30; 23,25 μM KIN. Najlepsze rezultaty uzyskano, inokulując przecięte poprzecznie na pół kwiaty języczkowate na pożywkę z 4,65 μM KIN i 18,08 μM 2,4-D. Objective. The aim of the research was to verify whether intellectually disabled people are responsive to motor stimulation, and whether the specific physical exercises, besides traditional rehabilitation and occupational therapy, would result in physical fitness enhancement. Materials and methods. The research was carried out on 259 persons with moderate and significant intellectual disability, participants of occupational therapy workshops. They were divided into two groups: a control group that underwent traditional rehabilitation treatment and occupational therapy, and an experimental group that additionally performed feasible physical exercises for 10 months. Participants’ body mass and height were measured to calculate their body mass index (BMI). Physical fitness was assessed with the Eurofit Special test and additional balance tests, at the beginning and at the end of the experiment. Results. The results showed that the body mass of both men and women increased in the control group, and was reduced in the experimental group. The results of the physical fitness tests were more varied, in which the control group obtained similar results in the repeated measurements, and the experimental group significantly improved the initial results after 10 months of performing the feasible physical exercises. Conclusions. The applied physical exercises performed in the experimental group were effective because they caused body mass loss and significant improvement in physical fitness.

Embryogenic cultures of plants are exposed to various stress factors both in vitro and during cryostorage. In order to safely include the plant material obtained by somatic embryogenesis in combination with cryopreservation for breeding programs, it is necessary to monitor its genetic stability. The aim of the present study was the assessment of somaclonal variation in plant material obtained from embryogenic cultures of Picea abies (L.) Karst. and P. omorika (Pančić) Purk. maintained in vitro or stored in liquid nitrogen by the pregrowth-dehydration method. The analysis of genetic conformity with using microsatellite markers was performed on cotyledonary somatic embryos (CSE), germinating somatic embryos (GSE) and somatic seedlings (SS), obtained from tissues maintained in vitro or from recovered embryogenic tissues (ETc) and CSE obtained after cryopreservation. The analysis revealed changes in the DNA of somatic embryogenesis-derived plant material of both Picea spp. They were found in plant material from 8 out of 10 tested embryogenic lines of P. abies and in 10 out of 19 embryogenic lines of P. omorika after in vitro culture. Changes were also detected in plant material obtained after cryopreservation. Somaclonal variation was observed in ETc and CSE of P. omorika and at ETv stage of P. abies. However, most of the changes were induced at the stage of somatic embryogenesis initiation. These results confirm the need for monitoring the genetic stability of plants obtained by somatic embryogenesis and after cryopreservation for both spruce species.

Background. The main aim of this paper is the assessment of differentiation of somatic body build and physical fitness of men with respect to the military speciality. Material and methods. The material was gathered in view of examinations of men who had completed twelve-month Officers’ College at the Tadeusz Kościuszko Land Forces Military Academy in Wrocław in the years 2006–2010. The research included anthropometric measurements, motor trials and a survey. Body height and body mass were measured. Moreover, body mass index and Rohrer index were calculated. The following functional traits were measured: run endurance, relative strength, trunk muscle strength, explosive strength of lower extremities, speed-running agility. In addition, maximal anaerobic work was calculated. Results and conclusions. The military training did not comprise the element which differentiated somatic body build of examined men. However, this training turned out to be the factor which differentiated the level of the majority of functional features. Only the level of a relative strength was similar in all divisional groups in terms of the military speciality.

A theoretical section is followed by the presentation of a corpus of somatic idioms taken fromDolnoserbsko-nimski słownik/Niedersorbisch-deutsches Wörterbuch by Manfred Starosta. The analysis of the idiomatic expressions shows how Lower Sorbian somatic phraseological units make use of somatic lexemes, as well as demonstrates the various types of motivation behind the actual senses of the examined expressions.

Emotion may be treated as a special sort of message considering that communicative function is one of the basic functions of emotion. Moreover emotion serves as a message in two ways. In one way facial expression of emotion is a message to other participants of social interaction that contains information about the emotional state of the subject and thus plays important interpersonal role. It shows the subject’s personal attitude and amplifies verbal messages or makes them more credible. Numerous empirical studies show that processes of generating and perceiving of facial expressions of emotions are autonomic and specific. In the other way emotion is an internal message containing information about the significance of events or thoughts and thus helping in making choices or taking decissions.

Opis:
Mutational witches’ broom is a part of the tree crown with abnormally dense branching and slow shoot growth, which putatively originates from a cell in a bud apical meristem and can be visually differentiated from the normal crown. The witches’ broom forms a large branching system which competes sufficiently with other parts of the tree crown. However, the competitive relationship and the interaction between the mutant and normal crown parts have not yet been studied. We investigated the patterns and dynamics of the competitive relationship between witches’ broom and normal branching systems of the same tree of five Pinaceae species by tree ring analysis. Three saw-cuts were made in each tree: on the lateral branch with the witches’ broom, on the proximal part of the axial branch in front of the branch with the witches’ broom, on the distal part of the axial branch right after the branch with the witches’ broom. An- nual radial growth was measured to the nearest 0.01 mm, and annual ring areas from three saw-cuts were analysed to compare the growth dynamics before and after witches’ broom appearance. The growth of the lateral branch with the witches’ broom sharply increased in the year of witches’ broom appearance by 2–10 times. The growth of the distal part of the axial branch sharply decreased in the same year, which could be explained only by the witches’ broom appearance. All branches with witches’ brooms gradually became thicker than the distal part of the branch, 3–150 times at the peak of growth, and occasionally outgrew even the proximal part of the branch. Thus, witches’ broom is drastically morphologically and physiologically different from the rest of the crown. All witches’ brooms had their own vertically oriented axis of symmetry and represented autonomous branching systems that were not subordinate to any other branching systems. They break the normal donor-acceptor relationship in a tree and eagerly consume resources without being fully involved in their production. The mutation clearly affects the hormonal regulation of growth and morphogenesis and turns a witches’ broom into a new metabolic sink.

The text is a synthetic description of Edward Pasewicz’s poetic work, which is included within the “plan for a somatic criticism.” The key operational concept used to describe this poetry is rhythm, which spreads out on all the levels of expression like a theme in a story and makes the texts of every poet unique and original. The rhythm is closely linked with the process of listening and with the body itself, which generates it. Following Charlers Berstein, the author performs an act of Close Listening, attempting to point out the relations between rhythm, the sphere of sound in Pasewicz’s poetic texts, and a speaking subject.

The potential of immature zygotic embryos to produce embryogenic tissue was tested using culture media differed in inorganic salt composition as well as plant growth regulator content. Explants cultured on DCR as well as MLV media gave the highest initiation percentages with maximum values of 8.8% (MLV) to 10.4% (DCR). Plant growth regulators content (standard or reduced) had no profound effect on embryogenic tissue initiation. Somatic embryo maturation as well as germination was dependent on the cell line and salt composition of the medium. Plantlet regeneration occurred in three cell lines out of five tested. During the maturation process profound changes occurred in the internal organisation of somatic embryos such differentiation of root meristem in precotyledonary somatic embryos and formation of provascular strands in cotyledonary somatic embryos.

Mitochondrial DNA polymerase gamma (POLG) is the only DNA polymerase involved in maintaining the mitochondrial genome. Recent studies demonstrated an association of CAG repeat polymorphism in the second exon of POLG gene with the risk of cancer. We investigated the CAG repeat variability in the POLG gene in tumor and non-tumor tissues from colorectal cancer patients and in DNA samples isolated from blood obtained from age-matched healthy persons. Somatically occuring CAG-repeat alterations in cancer tissues have been observed in 10% of patients, but no association has been found between the CAG repeat variants in the POLG gene and colorectal cancer risk.

Somatic idioms – those including a part of the body – have been traditionally studied from a synchronic perspective, yielding different explanations for their semantic value. The main objective of this paper is to highlight the diachronic origin of idiomatic meaning, by illustrating the process of phraseologization from a historical, usage-based perspective. As the first step, we will reflect on the general nature of phraseological meaning, and then on the semantic particularities of somatic idioms. Secondly, we will carry out a corpus-based diachronic analysis of the Catalan idiom tapar-se el nas (to hold one’s nose) within the framework of the Invited Inference Theory of Semantic Change. The different stages of the process will be exemplified and discussed. As a result, a new notion of somatic idioms as frozen human actions will be presented.

The aim of our work is to find out level of somatic development and motor performance of students of the 1.st year - class of FCHPT STU in Bratislava in five years period in years 2011 – 2015 (1881 women and 797 men). We used standardized test battery to recognize motor performance. Comparison of the motion efficiency testing results we used the test of statistical significance of differences in mean values of the significance level p - value<0,05, in program Statgraphic (One Way – ANOVA). Based on the results of measuring the level of somatic development , we found out that the body height has stagnating tendency for both men and women categories. Body weight had a stable level in men until 2014 , but its value is about 5 kg higher than the population average . The women had body weight except in 2014 rising trend. Both in men and women category in 2015 significantly increased body weight . Observing body mass in dex ( BMI ) we found out a significant increase in values only for women. The relative value of the body fat in both men and women category at approximately the same level without significant difference index BMI more than men but the value of body fat on th e other hand they were worse . In the test results of motor performance , we found out significantly lower levels of aerobic endurance compared to the first measurement in 2011 , both men and women. In the case of speed - power capabilities of the arms and tors o as well as for the dynamic force abdominal and hip muscles we can ́t confirm increasing or decreasing tendency. From our research it is clear that aerobic endurance is the ability which has decreasing trend from year to year for both men and women category.

Human identity is one of the key issues of a successful existence. It is not possible to avoid answering such questions as: Who am I? How do I understand myself? What do I identify myself with? Those questions demand answers, which are being continuously verified because of the changing individual, social and cultural conditions. Nowadays, one of the main features of reality is a very strong concentration on human body, its appearance, physical attractiveness, and compatibility with socially promoted ideals. The socially popularized model is a young, beautiful, charming and fit body. This is especially true for the body of a woman – a representative of the fair sex. Meeting those social expectations is not an easy task. It requires a lot of effort and sacrifice. While it is not a problem for younger women, it is very difficult and problematic for elderly women. In this article, the selected identity dilemmas experienced by nowadays elderly women will be discussed based on the available research described in Polish and foreign literature. As a result of the aging process of the body, the elderly woman’s body is far from the socially promoted ideal of the female body. This situation affects the self-esteem of elderly women and forces them to redefine themselves and their identity. The studies conducted so far have shown that the elderly women adopt various strategies in order to deal with these dilemmas. This article, inter alia, will discuss those strategies.

Somatic embryogenesis was studied in four spruce species (Picea abies, P. omorika, P. pungens 'Glauca' and P. brewenana) to determine if this method can be used for in vitro propagation of coniferous trees. The highest frequency of initiation of embryogenic tissue was obtained when mature zygotic embryos were used as explants. It ranged then from 10.8% (P. brewenana) to 23.75% (P. omorika and P. pungens 'Glauca'). The frequency of embryogenic tissue initiation was strongly affected by medium composition, i.e. addition of appropriate auxins (2,4-D, NAA, Picloram) and sucrose concentration (10-20 g-1"1). A lower frequency was obtained in Picea omorika (10%) when megagametophytes (endosperms with immature zygotic embryos) were used as explants. No emryogenic tissue was produced from hypocotyls, cotyledons and needles. A satisfactory frequency was achieved with the use of somatic embryos of Picea abies (30%). The proliferation of embryogenic cell lines of spruces was affected by medium type. The experiments resulted in production of somatic plantlets of P. abies and P. omorika. This enables the application of this method of spruce micropropagation for genetic and breeding research or for nursery production.

The studies were carried out on seed explants (mature zygotic embryos) of four spruce species: Picea omorika (Pancić) Purk., P. pungens ‘Glauca' Beisnn., P. breweriana S. Watson and P. abies (L.) Karst. The explants required darkness during the induction of embryogenic tissue. Temporary exposure of explants to light did not increase their embryogenic capacity. It was observed that the temperature of 25°C was the optimal for embryogenic tissue induction from mature zygotic embryos of Picea omorika. Cold treatment at 4°C during one week improved embryogenic tissue initiation in the explants of P. pungens ‘Glauca'. Seed explants of Picea omorika produced embryogenic tissue on medium lacking glutamine. Only explants of Picea abies and P. omorika showed embryogenic tissue formation. For effective proliferation of embryogenic tissue in Picea abies and P. omorika it was necessary to supply the medium with 2,4-D (4.5-9 μM) and BA (2.25 μM). Two of three analized lines showed that ABA promote somatic embryo maturation, at the ABA concentration 20 μM in the medium.

The aim of this paper is to address the issue of Spanish metalinguistic phraseology, composed of two classes of units: 1) those that describe any aspect of linguistic action and 2) those that have a metapragmatic value, that is, fulfill different pragmatic-discursive functions. The phraseological units, which are the object of our study, form part of the second subfield of the metalinguistic phraseology, and, from the semantic point of view, belong to the somatic phraseology, since they contain terms for body parts as base constituents (tongue, ear, hand). These somatic lexemes related to verbal activity have not been chosen at random. The purpose of the study is to analyze not only phraseological units with primarily metalinguistic lexical basis that play a direct physical role in linguistic communication, but also to analyze those units that develop and specifically realize metapragmatic values secondarily. The article pretends to show that, apart from the metalinguistic idioms with conceptual, descriptive or ideational meaning, there are also units whose meaning is a result of grammaticalization and it is directly related to their pragmatic-discursive functions.

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the relationships between socioeconomic factors (SES), anthropometric characteristics and motor abilities of female university students. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in 2000-2018 on 3955 female university students aged 19.72 ± 0.75 years who were randomly selected from the population of students attending obligatory physical education (PE) classes. The participants' body mass and height were measured, and the students participated in 13 motor ability tests that assessed their speed/agility, flexibility, strength, endurancestrength, and endurance abilities. Multiple independent samples were compared using the KruskalWallis test or the mean-ranks post-hoc test when significant differences were observed in the participants' motor abilities. Results: Statistically significant differences in the participants' body mass, body height, BMI and motor abilities (speed/agility, flexibility - partly, strength, and strengthendurance) were associated with differences in the students' SES. Greater mean differences in SES were associated with differences in the anthropometric and motor characteristics of students. Environmental factors such as the place of permanent residence, monthly budgets, mother's and father's educational background were least likely to be associated with female students' endurance abilities. Conclusions: Female students who had higher monthly budgets, resided in large cities, and had better educated parents were generally taller and had a higher level of motor abilities. An inverse relationship was noted between motor abilities vs. body mass and BMI.

The objective of the presented study was to compare the effect of osmotic stress, induced by various concentrations of polyethylene glycol (PEG) MW 4000, on the development, maturation, and conversion of somatic embryos of Picea abies (model species) and P. omorika (endemic species) into somatic seedlings. Embryogenic tissue (ET) of P. abies (line A and B) and P. omorika were incubated on a maturation medium with 20 μM abscisic acid (ABA), 1 μM indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and PEG 4000 at 0, 5, and 7.5%. After 5 weeks, the number of somatic embryos produced, and the number of cotyledonary somatic embryos per 1 gram of ET, was assessed. Cotyledonary somatic embryos were selected and transferred to a Margara germination medium for two months. Their growth, as measured by hypocotyl and radicle length, was evaluated after one month, and the somatic embryos were transferred to fresh medium. After the second month of incubation, the conversion frequency of germinated embryos into the seedlings was assessed. In general, ETs of both of the tested spruce species cultured on a maturation medium amended with 5% PEG 4000 exhibited a tendency to produce a higher total number of embryos, as well as a higher number of cotyledonary embryos. The B line of P. abies produced a significantly greater number of cotyledonary embryos, relative to the control (no PEG). PEG only stimulated hypocotyl growth in embryos of both lines (A and B) of P. abies during the germination stage. Somatic embryos of Picea omorika were characterized by poor growth of both hypocotyls and radicles, irrespective of PEG treatment. The addition of PEG 4000 to the maturation medium did not improve the conversion frequency of germinated somatic embryos into somatic seedlings in either spruce species after a month of incubation on Margara medium. The effect of PEG 4000 on somatic embryogenesis efficiency was more evident in the ET of the two P. abies lines, relative to the P. omorika ET line, during both the maturation and the germination stage. Results indicated that the P. omorika ET line was almost completely insensitive to all of the PEG concentrations tested.

The essay undertakes to investigate the phenomenon of erotic friendship as an “intertextual friendship” and, at the same time, “somatic (mis) understanding” (German: Un-beziehung). The following considerations include a discussion on the relationship between Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud, viewed first of all as bohemian characters of bohemian life and the protagonists of the mitologised homo-erotic relationship. Beside a hermeneutic attempt at describing the intimacy shared by both poets, or stages in the development of their intimate relations (with reference to French literature of the subject and texts that have not yet been translated into Polish), the author writes extensively on the reception of the relationship of the legendary pair of friends-lovers A-war period, Agnieszka Holland’s film Total eclipse and the most recent poetical texts by Ewa Sonnenberg. The essay is complemented by some considerations on similar cases, analogous to the instance of the relationship between the two French poets: epistolary romance between R.M. Rilke and M. Tsvetaeva and, important within the context of the reception of Rimbaud in Poland — love/friendship exhibited in the letters between Andrzej Czajkowski and Anita Janowska.

The evolution of the dominant marine plankton ciliates, the oligotrichids and choreotrichids, is analysed for morphologic and genetic convergences and apomorphies based on literature and our own data. These findings have taxonomic implications. Within the oligotrichid genus Parallelostrombidium two subgenera, Parallelostrombidium Agatha, 2004 nov. stat. and Asymptokinetum nov. subgen., are established, using the courses of the ventral and girdle kineties as a distinguishing feature. Likewise, a different arrangement of extrusome attachment sites is used for a split of the oligotrichid genus Novistrombidium into the subgenera Novistrombidium Song and Bradbury, 1998 nov. stat. and Propecingulum nov. subgen.; Novistrombidium (Propecingulum) ioanum (Lynn and Gilron, 1993) nov. comb. and Novistrombidium (Propecingulum) platum (Song and Packroff, 1997) nov. comb. are affiliated. Based on discrepancies in the somatic ciliary pattern and the presence of conspicuous argyrophilic inclusions, the aloricate choreotrichid species Pelagostrobilidium kimae nov. spec. is distinguished from P. conicum. The diagnosis for the tintinnid family Eutintinnidae Bachy et al., 2012 is improved by including cell features. The co-operation of taxonomists and molecular biologists is strongly recommended to prevent misinterpretations of gene trees due to incorrectly identified species and for better species circumscriptions.

Dedicated to a wide professional and non-professional audience, the book in question is a significant scientific work since it refers not only to the historical, but also to the anthropological and culturological description related to the activity of decoding of such essential socio-cultural category like body. Considered as a highly complex phenomenon, body is a sign generated by the realm of various traditions and discourses which render different cultural modes or primary and secondary contexts; it might be also conceived as a distinctive signature of given time-space, community and cultural system. It will not be an exaggeration to say that the dissertation is an extremely interesting and indeed outstanding study of the subject which impresses with its high cognitive value and research rank. What is more, it offers a serious and objective view of the convoluted and multidimensional cultural phenomenon and identity construct.

Opis:
The article focuses on the microanalysis of one of Aleksander Wat’s handwritten “pain notes” (dated December 8, Wat’s archive at the Beinecke Library). I discuss the note’s genological classification, which – due to fragmentation, randomness, and the very nature of the diary entry (and at the same the fact that it eludes this classification) – may not really be considered part of a larger whole. The “non-belonging” of the note and other similar notes seems to influence their poetics. Drawing on the findings of post-structural genology and the theory of fuzzy sets, I propose to see the note as a fuzzy genre that exists in many genological contexts at the same time and also gives rise its own “singular” form. Inspired by Jean-Luc Nancy’s reflections on corporeality and Adam Dziadek’s somatic criticism, I define the note as an “engram of the body.” I analyze an isolated “pain note” as an example and consider the possibility of using this category both in the context of reconstructing the genetics of the text and performing an exemplary rhythmic analysis of prose.

Background: Patients often seek out the help of general practitioners for problems that need a holistic, biopsychosocial approach. Having a psychologist present to support the GP in treatment allows for a more complete response to the patient’s distress, which is aided by the integration of the two specialists’ areas of expertise. Aim of the study: The aims of the study were to ensure all patients had direct access to a psychologist during treatment, even if they had not put in a specific request for one, to take care of accidental crises in real time, to reduce spending on inappropriate pharmaceutical prescriptions and diagnostic examinations, and to facilitate health promotion. Material and methods: The experiment took place between January 2014 and December 2015, in Pordenone, Italy. The psychologist was present in the GP practice every Thursday. The psychologist was present to provide consultation for each person who went to the GP practice for treatment. The study also explored the significance of any request, the psychological framework of the observed situations, and included an additional meeting with the psychologist in the GP practice, for individual interviews. Results: Of about 1,300 consultations with both the psychologist and GP present, the majority of the patients accepted the psychologist’s presence favorably. The most frequent source of discomfort for patients related to the grieving process during separation from people to whom the individual has a strong emotional attachment. 30 patients (6 males, 24 females) took part in individual follow-up meetings, 5 abandoned the project, 21 completed the full series of meetings, and 4 were sent to a mental health facility. Because of this holistic approach, spending on medical investigations was reduced by 6%, and the cost of pharmaceutical expenditure decreased by 10%. Conclusions: The joint medico-psychological treatment prevented, even at early stages, the appearance of somatic and psychic symptoms. This study has positively promoted health and well-being and shown that this type of treatment can help to limit expenses for pharmaceutical prescriptions and specialist diagnostic examinations.

AIM The aim of the article is an attempt to determine the differences in the conditionings of locomotion speed between the group of girls and the group of boys, and to show the dependency between manifestations of locomotion speed and somatic and motor parameters in both groups. MATERIAL AND RESEARCH METHODS The research was performed on the group of fifty 16-year-old students from Junior High School no 1 in Kołobrzeg (25 girls and 25 boys). In relation to somatic features, body weight and height were reported. Moreover, the following tests were performed: locomotion speed (20-metre sprint from a flying start and 60-metre run from the low start), dynamic strength (both feet long jump from place), the overall strength (overhead backward medicine ball throw with both hands, standing with feet hip width apart, and forward medicine ball throw with both hands, standing with feet hip width apart). The results were statistically analyzed. RESULTS A high correlation was found between body height and results in both races (20-metre sprint from a flying start and 60-metre run from the low start) in the female group. While in the male group, a significant correlation between speed and body weight was observed. Long jump from place correlated with speed samples – in the female group the correlation was moderate and in the male group it was on a high level. The analysis of dependency between strength tests (backward and forward medicine ball throw) and speed samples (20-metre sprint from a flying start and 60-metre run from the low start) in the female group indicates the lack of correlation between these samples. The dependency between strength tests and speed tests in the male group is high and significantly differs from the one that characterizes the female group. CONCLUSIONS 1. Muscle strength tests occurred to be a much better criterion for the symptoms of locomotion speed in the male group than in the female group. 2. Somatic features play an important role in speed symptoms in both groups. 3. Sexual dimorphism of studied motor qualities with a predominance of a male group was shown.
CEL. MATERIAŁ I METODY BADAŃ. 2. W obu grupach badawczych cechy somatyczne odgrywają znaczącą rolę w przejawach szybkości. 3. Wykazano dymorfizm płciowy badanych cech motorycznych z przewagą grupy męskiej.

The main aim of this thesis was to assess the usefulness of the chosen tests of motor skills (focused mainly on the work of the lower and upper limbs) and the computerized motor skills tests in identifying the talented handball players. To examine them, the players’ results from two junior teams were compared. The first test was performed before the players started high school, that is, at the age of sixteen. The results were compared with the sport level examined during the second test, performed when the players reached the senior age (nineteen years old). The Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient among the ranking results (sport level), somatic features and motor skills, was used in the analysis, with the level of statistical significance being p<0,05. Significant statistical correlations were discovered between the level of anaerobic force of the examined handball players when they are sixteen, and their sport level when they are nineteen years old. The significant statistical correlations may be one reason to use the tests of speed-force skills to identify the talented handball players described in this thesis. Among the coordination skills, only the multitasking ability proved to have significant statistical correlations with the players’ sport level.

Opis:
In vitro tissue culture technique, especially micropropagation, is attracting increasing attention in the production of ornamental plants. This technique will probably dominate the horticultural market in the near future. Light is one of the several factors affecting the success of in vitro plant tissue cultures. It directly affects the widely understood morphogenetic response of the explant, i.e., the ability of the explant to grow or regenerate, produce roots, etc. Lighting conditions provided during the in vitro stage may also greatly affect the plant vigor after transferring to nonsterile conditions. Moreover, the necessity of providing artificial light significantly contributes to the total cost of maintaining tissue cultures (related to energy consumption and the need to cool down the heat generated by lamps). Light quantity (intensity) and quality (spectral composition) are the two main parameters that determine its influence on in vitro cultures. This impact depends on the species and other accompanying factors. The aim of this mini-review is to summarize information on the influence of light on the morphogenetic and biochemical response of explants of some selected ornamental plant species grown under in vitro conditions.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present and analyze the selected phraseologisms with a somatic component naming feelings which were noted down from the novel of Władysław Stanisław Reymont entitled Chłopi (“The Peasants”). The analysis comprised 175 examples excerpted from the text, constituting just a part of collected research material. Compilation and organization of the exemplary material made it possible to assert that in the studied text the largest group constitute somatic phraseologisms being the designations of negative feelings and possessing in their lexical composition the noun serce (heart). Much less often there appear phraseologisms with other names of body parts, such as skóra (skin), gardziel (throat), głowa (head) or włosy (hair). In most cases the studied somatic phraseologisms occur in the canonical form, sometimes are creatively transformed by the author. In the studied material, the somatic phraseologisms designating positive feelings constitute a less numerous group. Also in this group, there dominate the compounds with a component serce (heart), while with other somatic components are less numerous. Also in this group, the idiomatic phrases occur in canonical forms or are creatively transformed by the author. Research conducted in the group of somatic phraseologisms designating emotional states enabled scholars to state that the novel of Reymont provides rich phraseological material in the form of canonical compounds, functionally justified innovation and metaphorical expressions, which, with respect to their structure and function, resemble phraseologisms. Among the phraseologisms where the writer’s intervention is noticeable, the author—at the level of language—refers to the world of values and cultural behaviours of peasant community of the village of Lipce. What is more, referring in the description of feelings to somatic phraseology, Reymont also emphasises a vital relationship between subjectively experienced feelings and an accompanying physiological reaction by an organism.

In this article, we present the results of selected parameters of the running speed of young school children. The aim of this research is to determine the dependence of parameters of speed abilities and physical development of 6 – 7 year old children. The sample consisted of 67 probands (42 boys and 25 girls) with a decimal average age of 6.72 ±0.3 year. We used the test 4 x 10m shuttle run with changes of direction for diagnostics of running speeds. We used the test of lower-limbs frequency in 6s to find out the parameters of movement frequency. We established basic somatic parameters: body height, body weight, BMI. All obtained results were compared with each other and evaluated using correlation analysis. We stated that in somatic parameters high statistical dependence was recorded (p < 0.01), which we consider as a natural developmental indicator. In the group of girls, we recorded a slightly shorter contact time with the pad; however, a significantly longer flight time with single stride cycles. In intrasexual comparison, we recorded statistical significant difference in flight time and in stride frequency (p < 0.05). Boys achieved a higher stride frequency and a shorter flight phase, so they also achieved a higher number of step cycles. In the group of boys, we recorded statistical dependence (p < 0.01) between a running speed with changes of direction and stride frequency.

Commonly recognized predictive abilities represented by selected ANN (Artificial Neural Networks) topologies are widely used in practice. They often support the decision-making processes that occur in agri-alimentary processing, such as milk production. The aim of the study was to use ANN as a predictive tool in the estimation process of the influence of selected zootechnical characteristics of cows on the milk quality, which is determined by the standards defining the requirements compliance concerning the level of somatic cell counts in the obtained milk. The work resulted in creation of the optimum predictive model which is a neural topology of the MLP-6:17:1 (MultiLayer Perceptron). The performed analysis of the generated neural model’s sensitivity to the individual input variables showed the impact of some of the zootechnical characteristics on somatic cell counts in the obtained milk.

Pomijanie cielesności wpisywanej w tekst to zubażanie filologicznych analiz i interpretacji.
The author of the paper explains that the omission of the notion of corporeality inscribed in the text constitutes the impoverishment of philological analyses and interpretations. The omission causes the loss of what motivates the whole textuality – the experience which is possible through the body and its various senses. The interpretation requires the inclusion of metensomatosis – the transmutation of one body into another. Poetry enables the “communication” of what is not a word but what constitutes its source(s). In other words, beyond the visibility of the written form, poetry also reveals the most biological/bodily aspects – preceding the symbolic order (of culture, institution). The experience of the body and the bodily experience must be subject to “verbalization” (its particular aspects which are: the “melody of words”, the rhythm in speech/writing, the harmony, echolalia, the meter). The rhythm is the most important sign of corporeality in the text and it becomes the “signature of the speaking subject, proving the uniqueness of every text”, its “somatic style” and the basis of Adam Dziadek’s somatic critique project.

Opis:
German academic language contains far more phrasemes than it used to be assumed. Apart from specialist expressions, there are many collocations, idioms and pragmatic phrasemes, which perform a number of textual functions. Scientific discourse has received an increased interest lately, however, no study of body-part phrasemes in academic language has been conducted. This paper presents an analysis of occurrence of phrasemes with the component “eye” in a specially created corpus of German academic texts in such branches as: linguistics, literary studies, foreign language teaching, and medicine. The paper approaches the following questions: Are such phrasemes used in scientific discourse and, if so, in which branches of science? What are the purposes of their use? Which phrasemes are favoured in all the analysed branches?
