Opis:: Many crucial environmental issues lead to social dilemmas, in which the personally optimal solution, and the socially optimal solution diverge. Finding a solution to this dilemma is extremely important to allow a good and sustainable management of many exhaustible natural resources. This is especially true when the resource users need to develop collectively a set of rules or practices, and the institutions are unable to provide, or enforce, effective regulations. A few examples are forests, and fisheries, but also carbon emissions. This review presents a selected number of results coming from field observations, laboratory experiments, and theoretical work, which pinpoint some of the more crucial aspects of these decision environments. Knowing which incentives and situational aspects may motivate resource users to adopt a more or less cooperative behavior can potentially be of pivotal importance to develop effective policies and regulations. At the same time, the research we present is also of great interestfor any diagnostic or explorative study that aims to study direct resource users, and their development of cooperative attitudes and practices.

Opis:: Artykuł analizuje ciągłość i zmianę reguł instytucjonalnych organizujących gospodarowanie wspólnymi leśnymi zasobami społeczności lokalnej Jurgowa, na polskim Spiszu. W wyniku zmiany część zasobów przyrodniczych wykorzystywanych zgodnie z tradycją została przekształcona w ośrodek sportów zimowych. Takie innowacyjne przedsięwzięcie wymagało nowych sposobów zbiorowego działania. Ważną rolę odegrali członkowie wspólnoty występujący w charakterze „okazjonalnych przywódców” i „instytucjonalnych przedsiębiorców”. Mieli oni ułatwione zadanie ze względu na tradycyjnie ugruntowane we wspólnocie sposoby rozwiązywania dylematów społecznych, wysoki poziom kapitału społecznego i zaufania wśród członków wspólnoty oraz spiskie zasoby kulturowe. Artykuł zwraca uwagę na potrzebę badania wspólnych zasobów w Polsce wskazując na fakt, iż ten aspekt różnorodności instytucjonalno-organizacyjnej i społeczno-kulturowej jest szczególnie ważny w obliczu zachodzących zmian. Tekst jest efektem badań jakościowych inspirowanych teoriami nowego instytucjonalizmu, w szczególności „Analizy Instytucjonalnej Rozwoju”.
The article includes analysis of continuity and change of institutional rules applicable to governing the common-pool forest resources in possession of local community of Jurgów village, located within Polish Spisz. As a result of occurring change, traditionally exploited part of environmental resources was repositioned into modern winter sports resort. Such innovative adaptation required, and was challenged, by new collective action that was introduced by local society as common approach. It is such roles of local society members’ representatives, described as ‘occasional leaders’ and ‘institutional entrepreneurs’, that were taking major part in this complex process of transformation. Also noteworthy is that this task was to certain extent simplified by their traditionally rooted within local community resolving of social dilemmas skills, comparably high level of social capital, trust gained over the years among community members and cultural resources of Spisz area. The article directs readers attention towards need of Polish research on common pool resources, indicating that aspects of institutional-organizational structure, as well as, social-cultural diversity is particularly important in face of such changes taking place. This text was also result of qualitative research inspired by new institutionalism theories, in particular ‘Institutional Analysis and Development”.

Akademickie dyskusje dotyczą nie tylko istoty profesjonalizacji, ale i takiego przygotowania zawodowego pracowników socjalnych, które odpowiadałoby przyjętym standardom oraz oczekiwaniom indywidualnym i społecznym. Podjęty dyskurs nad edukacyjnymi wymiarami profesjonalizacji pracowników socjalnych jest próbą refleksji nad możliwymi obszarami eksploracji tego problemu oraz dylematami związanymi z kształtowaniem oczekiwanej wiedzy, umiejętności oraz postaw, które sprzyjałyby efektywnym działaniom zawodowym.

Opis:: The issue of social irresponsibility, especially of a small enterprise, is a category that has been still insufficiently identified both in its theory and in management practice. The aim of this epistemological article is to identify methodical dilemmas in research on social irresponsibility of a small enterprise. The article presents: a proposal of the notion definition, assumptions for the concept of the social irresponsibility of a small enterprise and selected methodical dilemmas related to the research issue and basic research assumptions, the research object, research methodology, the course of the research process and concluding. The key conclusion resulting from the considerations discussed in the article is a postulate on a need to include the analysis of socially irresponsible activities of a small enterprise to the assessment of its social responsibility state in order to objectify its measurement and description.

Opis:: The paper summarizes the author’s experience of conducting economic scientific research. Economic scientific research is understood as both an analysis of economic phenomena and research purchased on the market of research services. The former are not subject to ethical dilemmas. It is a professional approach backed by sound economic theory that is important. The latter, regardless of who purchases research services, pose a risk of ethical dilemmas and conflicts of interest. The area of potential risk is connected to expectations of organizations purchasing research services. In most cases organizations are interested to receive objective assessments or recommendation necessary to take decisions. Ethical conflict appears when the destination of research is lobbing or a company’s image creation. The results of research may be used as an instrument of competition. It is thus vital that a research organization should judge the ethical dimension of undertaken research tasks. Research projects being socially beneficial should be definitely undertaken. In controversial cases, the conviction of the rightfulness in the ethical dimension ought to be decisive. In all cases the principal rule should be aiming at achieving scientifically objective assessments and opinions.

Opis:: The analysis of the deficits and ethical dilemmas in research will be related to two disciplines of the social sciences: sociology and economics. Research conducted within these disciplines, because of its multi-paradigm nature, tends to be characterized by deficits, not only ethical but also ethical and methodological dilemmas and interpretation reasons. The leading thesis of this paper aims to argue that the looming deficits and ethical dilemmas of Polish researchers in the field of social sciences are two basic but very different premises. The first group of reasons primarily refers to broad ethical deficits, perceived unreliableness in terms of scientific research. It is related mainly to the structural aspects of the functioning of universities and other research units and logic parameterization. In the ethical programs (especially codes of ethics), ethical deficits are identified in three areas of “activity” of research related to the description, diagnosis and interpretation of the results relating to: bragging-e.g. the preparation, recording and publishing of the results that were not obtained; falsification-which means manipulating the research materials, equipment or method, replacing or bypassing the data in such a way that the results are not presented in a true way; plagiarism-the appropriation of other people ideas, methods, results, or terms without proper reference. Plagiarism is also the unauthorized use of information obtained through confidential review of proposals and manuscripts, or e.g. using conference presentations without permission. Its structural evidence is primarily the emphasis on “productivity” and parameterization as the basic criterion, not only of scientific but also academic success-oriented and personalized careers. The second group of reasons refers primarily to broad ethical dilemmas; to the ethical context of social research at every stage of the proceedings: conceptualization, selection of methods, techniques and research tools, conducting research (which concern, for example, the covert participant observation), analysis and interpretation of data, publishing developed and interpreted empirical material. Performing even a cursory analysis of how to present research findings in these two disciplines, you can come to the conclusion that the methodological competence of the investigator does not always go hand in hand with ethical competence. What is more, there is a tendency to downplay the principle that the social sciences should be guided by the principle of the so-called humanistic coefficient.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest zarysowanie problematyki krytycznej analizy dyskursu (KAD) w odniesieniu do ram teoretycznych socjologii fenomenologicznej. Kluczowym zadaniem podjętych tu rozważań jest ukazanie teoretycznego zaplecza krytycznej analizy dyskursu w świetle Schützowskiej tradycji myślenia, z której w pewnym zakresie czerpią współcześni badacze KAD-u, jak również omówienie najważniejszych dylematów, jakie wiążą się z badaniem tak zwanego świata społecznego, stanowiącego nie tylko podstawowe pojęcie socjologii fenomenologicznej, lecz także hasło wywoławcze współczesnych studiów nad dyskursem w odmianie krytycznej. Całości rozważań przyświeca założenie o eklektycznym charakterze studiów nad dyskursem w ujęciu krytycznym, przyczyniającym się do powstawania dylematów na poziomie teoretycznym i metodologicznym.
The aim of this paper is to outline the problem of critical discourse analysis in relation to theoretical framework of phenomenological sociology. The main task undertaken here is to show contemporary CDA assumptions from the perspective of Schützian tradition. The goal of the paper is also to discuss the major dilemmas associated with “social world,” which is not only the basic concept of phenomenological sociology but also a keyword of contemporary critical discourse studies. All these reflections are guided by observation that the nature of critical discourse studies is eclectic, what causes many dilemmas at the theoretical and methodological level.

Opis:: Artykuł traktuje o problemach metodologicznych i etycznych, jakie naukowcy napotkać mogą w badaniach biograficznych realizowanych z udziałem osób ze zbiorowości zagrożonych marginalizacją. Autorka odnosi się w tekście do własnych doświadczeń związanych z realizacją projektów dotyczących przede wszystkim problematyki ubóstwa i wykluczenia społecznego, uznając, że otwarta dyskusja nad metodologią i etyką badań społecznych sprzyja zarówno doskonaleniu procedur, jak i komfortowi zarówno uczestników badań, jak i badaczy. W zakresie problemów metodologicznych w artykule uwzględniono kwestie: konstruowania próby badawczej, w tym przepisów dotyczących ochrony danych osobowych, roli gatekeepers i problemów z dostępnością narratorów, problemów wynikających z różnic strukturalnych między uczestnikami badań a badaczami, a także kompetencji interpersonalnych oraz metodologicznych badaczy. W drugiej części artykułu podjęto kwestie problemów etycznych: świadomej zgody, ingerencji w życie narratorów oraz oczekiwań aktorów indywidualnych i instytucjonalnych uczestniczących w badaniach. W zakończeniu autorka rozważa możliwość wprowadzenia superwizji dla osób prowadzących wywiady narracyjne i biograficzne.
The paper treats methodological and ethical problems the scientists possibly face in biographical research with the participation of the persons from the collectivities endangered by marginalization. The author reflects in the text on her own experiences related to the projects on poverty and social exclusion, claiming that the open discussion on social research methodology and ethics contributes both to procedures development and to the sense of comfort of research participants and researchers. As for the methodological problems, the following issues are pondered: the sampling construction, including personal data protection, the role of the gatekeepers and troubles with narrators accessibility, problems resulting from structural inequalities between a researcher and a research participant, as well as researchers’ interpersonal skills and their methodological competences. The ethical problems such as informed consent, researchers’ intervention in narrators’ life and individual and institutional social actors’ expectations are discussed in the second part of the text. In the final remarks, the author considers the possibility of implementing of supervision for the researchers conducting narrative and biographical interviews.

Opis:: W niniejszym artykule uwaga została skupiona na trzech zagadnieniach: 1) zasadach polityki społecznej wobec starości i ludzi starych, 2) późnej starości z perspektywy socjologicznej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem roli najstarszego pokolenia jako biorcy form opieki i różnych form wsparcia, 3) specyfice opieki, czyli na rozterkach i dylematach oraz trudnościach towarzyszących pokoleniu wchodzącemu w fazę starości, które staje się coraz częściej pokoleniem opiekującym się najstarszym pokoleniem w rodzinie, znajdującym się w czwartej fazie starości.
This article focuses on three issues: 1) the principles of social policy towards old age and old people; 2) advanced old age from a sociological perspective, with particular emphasis on the role of the oldest generation as recipients of care and various forms of support; and 3) the specifics of care, i.e. the dilemmas and difficulties associated with the generation entering old age, who are more are more often becoming the generation taking care of the most senior generation in the family, i.e. those in the fourth phase of old age.

Opis:: Artykuł poświęcony jest rozważaniom nad tożsamością polityczną i ideologiczną Sojuszu Lewicy Demokratycznej, odnosząc ten problem, zarówno do autowizerunku kreowanego przez partię, jak i opinii badaczy, komentatorów życia politycznego, badań opinii publicznej. Celem tekstu jest, zarówno zwrócenie uwagi na dylematy i niespójności, które wynikały z samej działalności ugrupowania, jak i próba odnalezienia przyczyn ich powstania.
The article describes reflections of political and ideological identity of Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej. This problem is considered from two points of view – firstly by looking at selfimage created by SLD, on the other hand based on the opinions of scholars, political commentators, journalists and polls about public perception of political phenomena. The purpose of the article is to pay attention to the dilemmas and inconsistencies resulting from political activity of the party. The main intention was to try to answer the question about sources of problem with identity of SLD.

Opis:: If we talk about dilemmas and the ethical challenges of the present time, then we suggest simultaneously that these problems differ in some way from universal ethical questions, important to man in every epoch and in every circumstances, and from these issues which were important in the past or will turn out important in the future, however, at present the general agreement concerning definite decisions prevails. Then it is necessary to identify those special problems of the present time and point out the features due to which they acquire special significance to us. However, presenting the matter in such a way does not seem fully justified, because the times in which we live differ in many regards from all mankind has ever experienced. The development of science and technology and increasing possibility of activities resulting from them, and also a level of complexity of relations linking the acting subject with other different subjects and the external world, caused that also ethical problems have taken on a whole new dimension. The issues which in the beginning of the XXth century were considered as minor or banal (e.g. the problem of man’s influence on the environment) became the key ethical questions in the course of several decades stirring up deep divisions not only among ethicists, but also in the whole society. In majority, they are however practical problems connected with certain general philosophical theories, such as abortion, euthanasia or medical experiments. In the last years they grew almost into symbols, and the way of their deciding shows a general ideological attitude, and even allows to define political views.
