The article is devoted to the consideration of the problem of increasing the professional skills of the workers of the supporting schools in the conditions of the modernization of education, both during the course retraining and in the intercourse activities. The study of innovative forms and methods of professional development of teachers makes it possible to assess their effectiveness, identify strengths and weaknesses, simulate the system of postgraduate education in accordance with the current needs of the school and help motivate pedagogical workers to achieve success in their professional activities.

In alignment with smart city initiatives, Malaysia is shifting its educational landscape to a smart learning environment. The Ministry of Education (MoE) has made History a mandatory subject for passing the Malaysian Certificate of Education to grow awareness and instil patriotism among Malaysian students. However, History has been known as one of the difficult subjects to study for many students. On the other hand, the Malaysian Government Education Blueprint 2013-2025 seeks to “leverage ICT scale up quality learning” across the country. Therefore, this study aims to identify the factors that influence the intention to use Augmented Reality (AR) for mobile learning in learning History subject among secondary school students in Malaysia. Quantitative approach has been chosen as the research method for this study. A direct survey was conducted on 400 secondary school students in one of the smart cities in Malaysia as the target respondents. The collected data are analysed through descriptive statistics and Multiple Linear Regression analysis by using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Based on the results, the identified factors that influence the intention to use AR for mobile learning in learning History subject are Gender, Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Enjoyment, and Attitude Towards Use. The identified factors can be a good reference for schools and teachers to strategize their teaching and learning methods in pertaining to History subject among secondary school students in Malaysia. Future studies may include the study of various types of schools in Malaysia and explore more moderating effects of demographic factors.

The article is devoted to the problem of specification of approaches to the design and implementation of electronic educational courses in conditions of continuously and dynamically changing digital information and learning environment of the modern university. Based on the results of the content analysis of the digital infrastructure and regulatory documentation of the Siberian Federal University and the discursive analysis of the leading trends in the field of digital education, necessary conditions for a successful professional pedagogical activity are described. On the basis of smart education principles, possible solutions to the problems of teaching at university, such as personification of teaching, project-oriented courses and initiating the launch of mechanisms for students’ informal self-education are synthesized and justified.

Regardless of whether the adopted role of education is to prepare people for pursuing employment or building general values, it will include the identification and development of skills and competences as well as professional and personal attributes. Critical thinking, ingenuity and complex cognitive-social skills are precisely those areas in which people continue to outdo intelligent machines. The purpose of this article is to review the skills and competences that will be desirable in the future in relation to recent technological changes. They are preceded by selected macroeconomic data to illustrate the situation of higher education with an emphasis on Poland, where, despite positive returns on investment in education (the highest among OECD countries), since 2005 a systematic fall in demand for higher education has been observed. The empirical part presents the results of a pilot study aimed at determining the desired future skills and professional attributes of Polish employers. The basic data was collected manually using a quantitative study during three sessions at two different job fairs in Gdańsk in March 2017. According to the surveyed respondents (n = 55), professional experience, proficiency in the use of new media and formal education were indicated as the least important features, while learning and diligence – as the key competences for the future economy. In addition, the studies have shown the differences in the perception of these abilities and competences depending on the employer’s position on the market, the number of employees and the internal policies of the companies.

Artykuł stanowi opracowanie wyników tematu badawczego dotyczącego zintegrowanego projektowania energetycznego. Badania przeprowadzono na bazie cyklicznych międzynarodowych warsztatów studenckich, których pierwszy etap odbywa się w Krakowie, na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej. Kontynuacja warsztatów realizowana jest w Strasburgu. Obejmuje ona zajęcia teoretyczne w campusie Licee le Corbusier oraz wizyty na budowach osiedli mieszkaniowych i prace projektowe. Publikacja wykazuje korzyści płynące z połączenia teorii z praktyką w edukacji studentów w obrębie założeń Smart Project i projekty studenckie jako efekty współpracy.
This paper constitutes a compilation of the results of a research topic focusing on the integrated energy design. It discusses the process of design preparation at the stage of the architectural concept, initial power-related assumptions, getting familiar with basic construction materials and technologies, forms of education in the field, and project completion. The research was conducted on the basis of periodical international students’ workshops, the first stage of which takes place in Cracow, at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. The workshops are then continued in Strasbourg. At this stage they comprise theoretical classes at the campus of Lycée le Corbusier, as well as visits to construction sites of housing estates, and design works. The publication demonstrates benefits stemming from combining theory with practice in teaching students within the scope of the Smart Project assumptions, as well as students’ designs as the effects of the cooperation.

Living on Earth in the 21st century requires determination due to its diversity and a multitude of propositions and values. So far, a large group of people has followed a consumer lifestyle, which often contributed to environmental degradation. The power of anthropopression (i.e. man's negative impact on nature) has caused many problems related to climate change, anomalies in the world of animals and plants, but also in the organization of urban and rural life. Every person living in a certain space should strive to follow the rules that will allow him to meet his developmental needs in the following dimensions: educational, professional, social, and, above all, existential. Living in a polluted environment makes it impossible to breathe deeply, while the poor quality of water and soil also prevents us from satisfying our thirst and hunger. The aim of the article is to present the concept of a smart and sustainable city, as life in cities should be reorganized to the level consistent with the Strategy developed by the United Nations. This publication has been divided into several parts. First, basic information on sustainable development is presented due to the necessity of saving a living society in the 21st century before the planet's destruction. The next part of the article introduces the concept of environmental education and its effectiveness in pedagogical terms to indicate that this area of knowledge requires constant improvement and deepening. Then, forms of social participation are introduced as a manifestation of social capital building. After presenting the effects of cooperation, as part of research findings (qualitative research), at the end of the article, the reader has a chance to reflect on the effectiveness of his current activities for maintaining the possibility of living in a repaired natural environment. The article covers issues related to sociology and pedagogy to demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of the above sciences combined with the field of environmental protection.

Creativity is nothing but a mental process that entails the emergence of new ideas, concepts or new associations, links with existing ideas and concepts. Creative thinking is thinking that leads to original and appropriate solutions. In our dynamic and competitive world, designing a creative environment is a main goal and challenge for many companies and educational settings. Why is that so? Because it simply leads to the development of innovation and is existential for the well-being of the whole economy and civilization. One of the methods that contributes to the increase of creativity and the innovation level in education is the Project Based Learning (PBL) method. The aim of the study is to present creative methods in education based on PBL method using the example of the Smart-Up Lab (SUL) program organized by the consortium: Medical University in Lodz, Poland and EIT Health. PBL is a method of didactic work in which students implement the undertaking on the basis of assumptions established with the lecturer. At the beginning, goals and deadlines of work are set. The criteria for the assessment of individual work stages are clearly defined. The project’s task is most often performed in a group. After the end of the project, the results of students' work are presented to the public. During the implementation of the project, the lecturer acts as a coordinator and consultant - helps in making decisions regarding the division of tasks, supervises deadlines and assesses student performance by giving feedback. One of the examples using the Project Based Learning method is the Smart-Up Lab project. This project uses creativity and the PBL method to create innovative products, services and solutions to real-life challenges. This program has all features of a suitable teaching method in Science and may be a good example of the curriculum that may lead to the development of high-class specialists using creativity and innovative ideas in their everyday work.

Cyfryzacja sieci elektroenergetycznej jest procesem, który powoli staje się rzeczywistością, zwłaszcza w krajach Europy Zachodniej, czy Ameryki Północnej. Inteligentna Sieć Elektroenergetyczna (ISE) oznacza zmianę sposobu zarządzania popytem na energię i szerokie zaangażowanie odbiorców w aktywny udział w rynku energii. Określenie inteligentna odnosi się do faktu, iż poprzez sieć przesyłana jest nie tylko energia, ale również dane, które stają się podstawą jej funkcjonowania i podejmowania decyzji na rynku energii, co wymaga znacznych inwestycji w nowe rozwiązania ICT. Projekty instalacji inteligentnych liczników, nowe systemy taryf oraz nowe programy efektywności energetycznej wprowadzane są przez dostawców energii, początkowo jako projekty pilotażowe na wybranych obszarach. Na zaangażowanie odbiorców w proponowane projekty ma wpływ wiele czynników, z czego podstawowymi są działania informacyjno-edukacyjne prowadzone przez jednostki je wprowadzające. Podstawowe znaczenie dla rozwoju ISE ma zmiana relacji dostawca – odbiorca energii, szeroki system dwustronnej komunikacji i rozwiązania ICT niezbędne dla codziennego sterowania zużyciem energii. W artykule wskazano znaczenie prowadzenia działań edukacyjno-informacyjnych na podstawie analizy danych z badań własnych, przeprowadzonych w regionie łódzkim w 2013 roku oraz na podstawie studiów literaturowych i praktyk stosowanych przez dostawców energii w procesie budowania zaangażowania odbiorców w nowe programy rynku energii.
The Smart Grid (SG) – a new idea of energy management is the unarguable direction of the 21st.century electricity grid. Thishowever requires huge capital investments in new technology, infrastructure and ICT solutions. The wide-ranging deployment process of new energy market ideas depends on a number of factors such as: the legal framework, adopted market mechanisms, accessible infrastructure and new ways of distributor-client communication. One of the most important tasks is to change the role of passive energy customers into active prosumers. The customers’ acceptance of new offers and energy market possibilities is a key element for the widespread SG deployment and demands a lot of effort to prepare the proper educational process. The purpose of this article is to present the importance of a coordinated education system based on literature overview, best practices used by utilities advanced in SG solution implementations and the results of a survey done in Lodz Region in 2013.

Toys with integrated technology are not a new thing. We are familiar with talking dolls or remote control cars. However, the interactive toys connected to the internet, which has appeared in recent years, and which are the natural consequence of the development of the internet of things, may bring a revolution to the world of children. Following article is the result of the research project „Internet of Toys a support or a threat to child’s development?” aimed at verifying the readiness to introduce digital toys as well astesting what is the level of security associated with the smart connected toys usage. A mixed methods research: pilot qualitative study in the form of interviews concerning various attitudes and practices relating to the use of digital devices, in particular connected smart toys, together with a quantitative study, gave an overview on the smart toys popularisation and the level of knowledge about their safety. Moreover, tests over selected products from the viewpoint of cyber threats and precautions implemented bythe vendor made it possible to come up with safety recommendations for future or present smart connected toys users. Communicative companions may bring not only fun and education, but also a dose of threats. What happens to the data collected by the toys, how easy it is to reach unauthorised access to the device and who potentially may come into these data possession? Last but not least this article tries to answer the questions on what consequences might bring to children social development, permanent parental supervision,restrictions of children’s privacyand the possibility that digital toys might become a replacement of a real participation in the child’s life.

Opis:
Zintegrowane nauczanie przedmiotowo-językowe (CLIL) znalazło swoje ważne miejsce w edukacji wielokulturowej i wielojęzycznej europejskiej społeczności XXI wieku. Według Coyle (1999) metodologia podejścia CLIL opiera się na czterech podstawowych pojęciach, znanych jako koncepty CLIL. Kultura, będąc jednym z nich (wraz z treściami edukacyjnymi, komunikacją i procesem poznawczym), ma duże znaczenie. Elementy kulturowe w nauczaniu, zarówno języków obcych jak i innych przedmiotów niejęzykowych, są nieodłączną częścią nowoczesnej edukacji. Jednakże Teoria Inteligencji Wielorakich (Gardner, 1993) zmieniła sposób, w jaki postrzegamy naszą inteligencję, i pozwoliła spojrzeć na edukację z nowej perspektywy. Oba te podejścia edukacyjne służą jako teoretyczne podstawy praktycznych rozwiązań edukacyjnych, potrzebnych do rozwoju świadomości kulturowej, zaprezentowanych w niniejszym opracowaniu. Szkoły w ostatnich dekadach były zmuszone przejść transformację, aby stać się miejscami, w których uczniowie mogą zyskać nie tylko wiedzę teoretyczną, ale także umiejętności społeczne, kulturowe i pragmatyczne, by stać się „obywatelami świata”. Dwujęzyczna Szkoła Podstawowa Smart School w Zamościu jest jedną ze szkół, która oparła swą ideologię na tej transformacji. Jako dyrektor tej szkoły, a także czerpiąc z doświadczenia uzyskanego podczas badań naukowych w dziedzinie CLIL prowadzonych przeze mnie w Instytucie Anglistyki Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, przedstawiam moje spostrzeżenia dotyczące sposobu, w jaki czynniki kulturowe mogą być z powodzeniem wprowadzone do procesu edukacyjnego, zarówno podczas zajęć języka obcego, jak i przez cały dzień nauki w szkole. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest podkreślenie istotnego miejsca, jakie zajmuje nauczanie elementów kulturowych w szkole i wyposażenie czytelnika w zasób oryginalnych pomysłów na włączenie elementów kulturowych do programów szkolnych poprzez połączenie metodyki CLIL i Teorii MI.
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) has found its valuable place in the education of the multilingual and multicultural European community of the XXI century. According to Coyle (1999) the methodology of the CLIL approach is based on four key concepts, known as the conceptual framework. Culture, being one of them (together with content, communication and cognition), is given a due significance. Cultural elements in teaching, both the foreign languages and other non-linguistic subjects, are an indispensable part of modern education, as the world has become a “global village” and we all need to know far more than just the languages spoken by other nations. On the other hand, the Theory of Multiple Intelligences (Gardner, 1999) changed the way we perceive our intelligence and allowed to look at education from a new angle. Both these educational approaches serve as the theoretical foundations of the practical study presented in this paper. Schools also had to undergo the shift to become places where pupils can gain not only the theoretical knowledge but also the social, cultural and pragmatic skills to become “the citizens of the world”. Bilingual Primary School Smart School in Zamość, Poland is one of the schools that based its ideology on this transition. Being the head-master of this school, and gaining from the experience attained during my ongoing PhD research in the field of CLIL in the Institute of English Studies of the Catholic University of Lublin, I will present my observations on how cultural elements may be successfully brought into the educational process, both during foreign language classes and throughout the entire school day. The aim of this paper is to reveal the vital place of teaching culture and to equip the reader with a scope of genuine ideas on how to incorporate cultural elements into the school curricula by combining the methodologies of CLIL and MI Theory.
