    The aim of this paper is to present a way of ranking the nonlinearities of electrodynamic loudspeakers. For this purpose, we have constructed a nonlinear analytic model which takes into account the variations of the small signal parameters. The determination of these variations is based on a very precise measurement of the electrical impedance of the electrodynamic loudspeaker. First, we present the experimental method to identify the variations of these parameters, then we propose to study theoretically the importance of these nonlinearities according to the input level or the input frequency. We show that the parameter which creates most of the distortions is not always the same and depends mainly on both the input level and the input frequency. Such results can be very useful for optimization of electrodynamic loudspeakers.

    This paper proposes two nonlinear exact and simple state space models of a Zsource converter (ZSC) connected to an ac grid. A generic model of a ZSC accompanied with proper controllers are proposed and a dynamic model of the whole system is derived; as a result, based on a simple one, an equivalent block diagram of the current-controlled ZSC system is proposed. The ac small signal stability method is applied and the impact of controller parameters on network’s stability is discussed. Besides, overall system dynamic performance has been assessed in the event of perturbations. Time-domain simulations have been implemented in PSCAD/EMTDC to validate the accuracy of the models and effectiveness of the proposed controllers. The results of the exact model are compared with the response of the equations which are applied in MATLAB.

    A non-quasi-static model of partially-depleted SOI MOSFETs is presented. Phenomena, which are particularly responsible for dependence of device admittances on frequency are briefly described. Several C-V characteristics of the SOI MOSFET calculated for a wide range of frequencies, preliminary results of numerical analysis and of measurements and brief analysis of the results are presented. Methods of model improvement are proposed.

    We present the state-of-the-art in simulation of silicon-germanium (SiGe) semiconductor devices. The work includes a detailed comparison of device simulators and current transport models. Among the critical modeling issues addressed in the paper, special attention is focused on the description of the anisotropic majority/minority electron mobility in strained SiGe grown on Si. We use a direct approach to obtain scattering parameters (S-parameters) and other derived figures of merit of SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) by means of small-signal AC-analysis. Results from two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of SiGe HBTs are presented in good agreement with measured data. The examples are chosen to demonstrate technologically important issues which can be addressed and solved by device simulation.

    Opis:
    Small-signal input characteristics of BUCK and BOOST DC-DC power converters in continuous conduction and discontinuous conduction mode have been presented. Special attention is paid to characteristics in discontinuous conduction mode. The input characteristics are derived from the general form of averaged models of converters. The frequency dependence of input admittance and other input characteristics has been observed in a relatively low-frequency range. The analytical formulas derived in the paper are illustrated by numerical calculations and verified by experiments with a laboratory model of BOOST converter. A satisfying level of conformity of calculations and measurements has been obtained.

    Characteristic frequencies corresponding to poles and zeros of small-signal control-to-output transfer functions of popular DC-DC converters (BUCK and BOOST) are analyzed. The main attention is paid to influence of load conductance on the characteristic frequencies for converters working in continuous conduction mode (CCM) as well as in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). Parasitic resistances of all converter components are included in calculations. In addition the improved description of CCMDCM boundary is presented. The calculations are verified experimentally and good consistency of the results is observed.

Ideal converter case and converter with parasitic resistances are considered separately.     In the description of small-signal transmittances of switch-mode power converters several characteristic frequencies are usually used, corresponding to poles and zeros of transmittances. The knowledge of these frequencies is important in the design of control circuits for converters and usually are assumed to be constant for a given power stage of a converter. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the influence of converter primary parameters and load conductance on characteristic frequencies. Analytical derivations and numerical calculations are performed for an ideal and non-ideal BUCK converter working in continuous or discontinuous conduction mode.

    Loop flows in the European power system (ENTSO-E CE) not only limit trade capacity, but also compromise power system operational security. In order to reduce unscheduled power transfers, phase shifters are most commonly used, usually installed on tie-lines. Where these devices are not available or their control range has been exhausted, and the unscheduled power transfer is greater than the allowable, transmission grid operators, in extreme cases, to maintain the integrity of their own systems may decide to introduce topological changes resulting in interconnection weakening. Such action reduces the undesired power transfer, but at the same time it affects the frequency and the damping of inter-area oscillations in the ENTSO-E CE system. The results presented in this paper provide a qualitative assessment (show trends of changes) of the impact of the Polish NPS (National Power System) border lines’ outages on the damping and frequency, and the contribution of NPS generators to inter-area oscillations. Due to the problems with low frequency oscillation damping in ENTSO-E CE, any reduction in the damping or frequency from the initial state should be considered a potential threat to secure system operation.
    Obserwowane w pracy europejskiego systemu elektroenergetycznego (ENTSO-E CE) przepływy kołowe powodują nie tylko ograniczenie zdolności wymiany handlowej, ale również stwarzają realne zagrożenie dla bezpieczeństwa pracy systemu. W celu ograniczenia takich przesyłów coraz powszechniej stosowane są przesuwniki fazowe instalowane zazwyczaj na liniach granicznych. W sytuacji, gdy urządzeń tych nie ma, czy też ich zakres regulacyjny został wyczerpany, a niepożądany przesył jest większy od dopuszczalnego, operatorzy sieci przesyłowej w skrajnych przypadkach, dla zachowania integralności własnego systemu, mogą podjąć decyzje o wprowadzeniu zmian topologicznych, skutkujących osłabieniem połączeń międzysystemowych. Działanie takie prowadzi do ograniczenia niepożądanego przesyłu, ale równocześnie oddziałuje na częstotliwość i tłumienie oscylacji międzyobszarowych obserwowanych w ENTSO-E CE. Przedstawione w artykule wyniki dokonują oceny jakościowej (pokazują trendy zmian) wpływu wyłączeń linii granicznych w KSE na wielkość tłumienia i częstotliwości oraz zaangażowania generatorów KSE w oscylacjach międzyobszarowych. Ponieważ w ENTSO-E CE występują problemy z tłumieniem oscylacji niskich częstotliwości, to każde zmniejszenie tłumienia lub częstotliwości w stosunku do stanu wyjściowego należy traktować jako potencjalne zagrożenie dla bezpieczeństwa pracy.

    Jednym ze zjawisk występujących w europejskim systemie elektroenergetycznym (ENTSO-E CE) są nieplanowane przepływy mocy. Powodują one realne zagrożenie dla bezpieczeństwa pracy systemu oraz ograniczają zdolności wymiany handlowej. Jednym z narzędzi służących ograniczeniu tego zjawiska są coraz powszechniej stosowane w ENTSO-E przesuwniki fazowe. W szczególnie trudnych warunkach dla obrony systemu przed nadmiernymi przepływami mocy, dla zachowania integralności własnego systemu, operatorzy sieci przesyłowej mogą podjąć decyzje o wprowadzeniu zmian topologicznych skutkujących osłabieniem połączeń międzysystemowych. Szczególnym przypadkiem działań operatorskich może być podział nie na pojedynczej granicy, ale na całym ciągu granic, prowadzący w efekcie do podziału kontynentalnej części ENTSO-E na dwie części wschodnią i zachodnią. Działania takie prowadzą do ograniczenia niepożądanych przepływów, ale mogą również oddziaływać na częstotliwość i tłumienie kołysań międzyobszarowych obserwowanych w systemie. Przedstawione w artykule wyniki stanowią ocenę jakościową (pokazują trendy zmian) wpływu wyłączeń linii granicznych w KSE na wielkość tłumienia i częstotliwości kołysań międzyobszarowych ENTSO-E CE angażujących generatory KSE.
    Loop flows observed on continental European power system (ENTSO-E CE) impose limitations on possible market power exchange but above all cause real threat to safe power system operation. To limit this phenomena, transmission system operators (TSOs) install phase shifting transformers on tie-lines. In case this countermeasure is not available or control range of installed devices is not sufficient to limit undesired power flow to safe level, TSOs may decide to change system topology (switch off tie-lines, splitting internal system) aiming to protect internal system integrity but weakening international connections. On one hand this action leads to reduction or elimination of unscheduled power flows but also influences on frequencies and damping of inter-area oscillations. Presented in the paper results discuss qualitative changes in inter-area oscillations pattern (frequency, damping, Polish generators contribution) caused by topology changes introduced to Polish EHV grid. Due to problems with low frequency inter-area oscillations damping either deterioration of damping or lowering the frequency may be treated as potential threat to European system safety. Additional scenario analyzing deeper changes in ENTSO-E CE system: split into western and eastern part was also investigated.

    This paper focuses on the analysis of a power factor correction (PFC) converter using close loop Ĉuk topology. Regardless of the input line voltage and output load variations, input current drawn by the buck or buck-boost converter is always discontinuous. The Boost converter suffers from high voltage stresses across the power electronic devices. The input current in Ĉuk converter is comparable to boost converter’s input current. In this paper output voltage is controlled by inner current and outer voltage control loop along with power factor correction (PFC). It shows less input current THD (less than 5%), nearly unity power factor and better output voltage regulation of AC-DC converter under variable input voltage and output load. Small signal model analysis is presented for obtaining frequency response of the control loop. The MATLAB Simulink programming environment is used as a simulation tool.

    Development of a dynamic model covering a large power system and suitable for analyses of inter-area oscillations often requires the use of typical system component models used in transient stability analyses. This may consequence in very optimistic results, i.e. much better oscillation damping than actually recorded in the system. This was seen in the 1990s, when in the USA and Canada (Western Interconnection) weakly damped inter-area oscillations were observed, which could not be correctly reflected using standard dynamic models. The paper analyses selected system component modelling simplifications due to the use of generic models that may affect the damping of inter-area oscillations. The degree of this impact on the results is shown in a dynamic model covering the synchronously operated part of the continental Europe system.
    Opracowanie modelu dynamicznego, obejmującego wielki system elektroenergetyczny odpowiedni do analiz oscylacji międzyobszarowych, często wymaga wykorzystania typowych modeli elementów systemu, wykorzystywanych w analizach stanów przejściowych. Działanie takie może skutkować uzyskaniem bardzo optymistycznych wyników, tj. dużo lepszego tłumienia oscylacji niż w praktyce rejestrowane w systemie. Przekonano się o tym już w latach 90., gdy zaobserwowano słabo tłumione oscylacje międzyobszarowe w USA i Kanadzie (Western Interconnection), których nie udało się poprawnie odwzorować z wykorzystaniem standardowych modeli dynamicznych. W artykule przeanalizowano wybrane uproszczenia modelowania elementów systemu, spowodowane wykorzystaniem modeli generycznych, które mogą mieć wpływ na poziom tłumienia oscylacji międzyobszarowych. Stopień tego oddziaływania na wyniki został pokazany na modelu dynamicznym, obejmującym synchronicznie pracującą część Europy kontynentalnej.

    The paper is a structured, in-depth analysis of dual active bridge modeling. In the research new, profound dual active bridge converter (DAB) circuit model is presented. Contrary to already described idealized models, all critical elements including numerous parasitic components were described. The novelty is the consideration of a threshold voltage of diodes and transistors in the converter equations. Furthermore, a lossy model of leakage inductance in an AC circuit is also included. Based on the circuit equations, a small-signal dual active bridge converter model is described. That led to developing control of the input and output transfer function of the dual active bridge converter model. The comparison of the idealized model, circuit simulation (PLECS), and an experimental model was conducted methodically and confirmed the high compatibility of the introduced mathematical model with the experimental one. Proposed transfer functions can be used when designing control of systems containing multiple converters accelerating the design process, and accurately reproducing the existing systems, which was also reported in the paper.

    Opis:
    Various models of DC-DC converters have been presented in many references. This paper provides extended version of a common transfer functions (line-tooutput, control-to-output) of three most popular DC-DC converters BUCK, BOOST and BUCK-BOOST. The extension includes all parasitic resistances and additional voltage source created after linearization of diode characteristic.
    W dostępnej literaturze istnieje wiele modeli przetwornic napięcia stałego. Modele te różnią się między innymi rodzajem uwzględnianych rezystancji pasożytniczych. Niniejszy artykuł zawiera modele przetwornic napięcia stałego BUCK, BOOST oraz BUCK-BOOST, wyprowadzone przy pomocy techniki separacji zmiennych. Modele te uwzględniają zarówno rezystancje pasożytnicze wszystkich elementów przetwornicy jak i dodatkowe źródło napięcia powstałe po linearyzacji charakterystyki diody.

    In this presentation, a new low computational burden method for the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation from noisy signal using small snapshots is presented. The approach introduces State Space-based Method (SSM) to represent the received array signal, and uses small snapshots directly to form the Hankel data matrix. Those Hankel data matrices are then utilized to construct forward-backward data matrix that is used to estimate the state space model parameters from which the DOA of the incident signals can be extracted. In contrast to existing methods, such as MUSIC, Root-MUSIC that use the covariance data matrix to estimate the DOA and the sparse representation (SR) based DOA which is obtained by solving the sparsest representation of the snapshots, the SSM algorithm employs forward-backward data matrix formed only using small snapshots and doesn't need additional spatial smoothing method to process coherent signals. Three numerical experiments are employed to compare the performance among the SSM, Root-MUSIC and SR-based method as well as Cramér–Rao bound (CRB). The simulation results demonstrate that when a small number of snapshots, even a single one, are used, the SSM always performs better than the other two method no matter under the circumstance of uncorrelated or correlated signal. The simulation results also show that the computational burden is reduced significantly and the number of antenna elements is saved greatly.
