Opis:
Since ammonia is water-soluble, environmental studies have shown that the industrial waste such as fertilizer manufacturing, food products, palm oil, urea fertilizer industry can cause very serious damage to water body ecosystems if not properly managed, resulting in a decrease in water quality. Devices based on optical technology, especially devices that combine optical fibers and nanomaterials, are identified as highly sensitive to the species of interest by detecting changes in physicochemical properties. A practical, easy-to-use, inexpensive instrument for detecting ammonia level was proposed using tapered optical fiber (TOF) coated with titanium dioxide-incorporated porphyrin. TOF was fabricated by simultaneously stretching and heating. The preparation of TiO2/porphyrin/gelatine was prepared to coat tapered optical fiber by dipping. SEM analysis shows an increase in length and a decrease in diameter, also the successful coating of titanium dioxide and porphyrin in the taper region. The EDX analysis also proves the presence of the Ti element in the TOF layer. The TOF produces significant sensing performances toward the ammonia liquid concentration level. The TOF coated with titanium dioxide-incorporated porphyrin can detect a one ppm difference in ammonia concentration with a certain range of output voltage for every concentration has.

The main concept behind employing cognitive radio is to enable secondary users (SUs) or unlicensed users to utilize the available spectrum. Spectrum sensing methods detect the existence of primary users (PUs) and have become the main topic of research in the CRN industry and in academia. This paper proposes a new framework based on the Adam gradient descent (Adam GD) algorithm to develop a spectrum sensing mechanism used in CRNs and detecting the availability of free channels. The signal's components are extracted from the received signal and the spectrum is searched for availability which is detected through a fusion center using the proposed algorithm. The proposed Adam GD algorithm attains the maximum detection probability rate and the minimum false alarm probability of 0.71 and 0.39, respectively, for a Rayleigh channel.

Ice phenomena in watercourses and channels pose a threat to flow continuity and hydrotechnical devices. The organoleptic method, relying on human observation, has limitations such as a narrow range, subjective assessment, and high effort, leading to its decline in use. This article presents a number of modern techniques, i.e., the interpretation of RGB images, using unmanned aerial vehicles. Drone imagery offers a bird’s-eye view of areas that would otherwise be difficult to survey. It can improve the detection of frazil ice jams and, thus, contribute to the monitoring and spread of frazil ice. The authors performed research in the area of the Wrocław Water Junction on the Odra River in the area of the inlet near the fish pass at the Opatowice Weir during the flow of frazil ice on the water surface. To observe the phenomenon, a UAV with an RGB camera was used to record video in an orthogonal perspective in order to reduce geometric distortions of the optical system. The center of the frame was used for the analysis. The presented research results and the recognition of the literature indicate the possibility of using the presented technique for early detection of a potential threat from emerging ice phenomena. The results of the conducted analyses are objectively compared to the observational technique used at observation stations and allow for a reliable comparison of the intensity of ice phenomena in selected periods.

The purpose of the study was to establish dependence of sunflower productivity on hybrid plasticity under the climatic conditions of the Steppe zone and effectiveness of growth-regulators on the basis of the analysis of differentiation of a vegetation index. The research on the development and productivity of different sunflower hybrids under the natural-climatic conditions of the Steppe zone of Ukraine was conducted in the years of 2019 (medium-wet), 2020 (dry) and 2021 (wet). Spatio-temporal differentiation of the vegetation of sunflower hybrids was established on the basis of calculation of a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) using the data of the decoded space images of Sentinel 2. Cartographic and grapho-analytical materials reflecting the reaction of plants to natural-climatic conditions and multifunctional growth-regulators were obtained. The dependence of the reaction of sunflower hybrids to multifunctional growth-regulators on their plasticity in response to the natural-climatic conditions of the Steppe zone was established. There was a weak reaction to application of growth-regulators of the sunflower hybrids Oplot and P64HE133 which are characterized by a high level of plasticity in response to the natural-climatic conditions of the Steppe zone. It was proven that the application of the biological preparation Helafit Combi exceeded the level of agrocenoses productivity in comparison with the chemical preparation ArchitectТМ by 1.1-5.4%. It was established that foliar treatment with growth-regulators led to a decline in water uptake by the sunflower hybrids by 1.2–10.0% in the dry year, by 3.8–8.6% in the medium-wet year and by 3.7%–21.9% in the wet year. There was a significant reduction in the level of water uptake by the hybrid Hector – by 7.7–10.0% and the hybrid 8KH477KL – by 1.2–21.9%. The research results are the basis for forecasting the development of sunflower hybrid crops with further measurement of the crop productivity that allows establishing a probable level of efficiency of sunflower hybrid production by agricultural producers under the climatic conditions of the Steppe zone.

This study aimed to understand the new management challenges related to the impact of climate change on biodiversity, deterioration of agricultural productivity, food security, and increasing rates of desertification. This constitutes an important indicator for studying Land Degradation Neutrality (SDGs Target 15.3), which is considered a significant target in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. The present study is concerned with assessing and monitoring land management and land degradation in Wadi El Farigh from 2000 to 2019. Soil quality is a major part of the chain that leads to understanding sustainable land management of natural resources (land, groundwater, and natural vegetation). A geopedological approach produced the studied area’s physiographic and soil map. The study of changes in land degradation level in Wadi El Farigh over 20 years with a period of every five years shows a very high improvement in the study area from the year 2000 up to 2014. From 2015 to 2019, this class was reduced due to the effects of land degradation reflected by the use of saline water for irrigating crops. Using remote sensing and geostatistical analyses within the GIS environment illustrated that the soils were classified as Entisols, representing 79.45 of the total studied area, and Aridisols representing 20.55% of the total studied area.

Remote sensing technology is reliable in identifying the distribution of seabed cover yet there are still challenges in retrieving the data collection of shallow water habitats than with other objects on land. Classification algorithms based on remote sensing technology have been developed for application to map benthic habitats, such as Maximum Likelihood, Minimum Distance, and Support Vector Machine. This study focuses on examining those three classification algorithms to retrieve information on the benthic habitat in Pari Island, Jakarta using visual interpretation data for classification, and data field measurements for accuracy testing. This study used five classes of benthic objects, namely sand, sand-seagrass, rubble, seagrass, and coral. The results show how the proposed approach in this study provides an overall good classification of marine habitat with an accuracy produced 63.89–81.95%. The Support Vector Machine algorithm produced the highest accuracy rate of about 81.95%. The Support Vector Machine algorithm at a very high spatial resolution is considered to be capable of identifying, monitoring, and performing the rapid assessment of benthic habitat objects.

Opis:
An important factor threatening global security is climate change and its impact on changing rainfall patterns and seasonal temperature variability. For this reason, farmers and crop scientists are striving to detect plant stress as soon as possible and introduce preventive measures so that key decisions in maintaining plant health are made in a timely way. Currently, multispectral images acquired from UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) make it possible to provide objective and reliable information related to the state of agro-ecosystems, the dynamics of changes occurring on them and the monitoring of natural resources in a rapid and non-contact method. In the present study, the suitability of low-altitude multispectral imaging for proper stress detection in plants was assessed. The botanical garden in Kielce, a site with a high biodiversity of plant specimens, was chosen as the testing ground. In this study, four spectral indexes maps were analysed in the form of: NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), NDRE (Normalized Difference Red-Edge Index), GNDVI (Green Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and the less frequently used PSRI (Plant Senescence Reflectance Index) for the assessment of plant health. PSRI values > 0.50 clearly identified areas of high stress, in contrast to the other spectral indices analysed in this study. The study confirmed the suitability of the PSRI for conducting monitoring activities in areas with varying crop characteristics in an efficient and rapid approach.
W niniejszej pracy oceniono przydatność zobrazowań multispektralnych z niskiego pułapu do prawidłowej detekcji stresu u roślin. Jako poligon doświadczalny wybrano ogród botaniczny w Kielcach, będący obiektem o dużej bioróżnorodności okazów roślin. W pracy przeanalizowano cztery mapy wskaźników spektralnych w postaci: NDVI (ang. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), NDRE (ang. Normalized Difference Red-Edge Index), GNDVI (ang. Green Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) oraz rzadziej stosowany wskaźnik PSRI (ang. Plant Senescence Reflectance Index) pod kątem oceny kondycji zdrowotnej roślin. Wartości wskaźnika PSRI > 0,50 w sposób jednoznaczny zidentyfikowały obszary wysokiego stresu w odróżnieniu od pozostałych analizowanych w pracy wskaźników spektralnych. Badania potwierdziły przydatność wskaźnika PSRI do prowadzenia działań monitoringowych na obszarach o zróżnicowanej charakterystyce uprawianych roślin w sposób efektywny i szybki.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki obserwacji wykonanych z powietrza za pomocą BSP w podczerwieni. Warunki obserwacji były zbliżone do rzeczywistych warunków pola walki.
This article presents the results of aerial observations conducted using infrared airborne surveillance platforms. The observation conditions closely resembled real battlefield conditions. The observation results were compared with laboratory studies that utilized a black body reference to measure the radiative transmission of 11 different masking nets materials. The research referred to the measured transparency coefficient of the tested materials. The conducted research indicates that there is no consistent correlation between transparency in visible light and infrared radiation passing through the masking material for the tested materials. Considering that camouflage meshes and the materials from which they are made have become highly sought-after equipment on the modern battlefield, with many entities initiating their production, there is a strong need to develop a rapid method for assessing the suitability of such materials in terms of thermal camouflage. The study proposes the utilization of a simple camouflage evaluation index based on transparency in two spectral ranges.

Flooding, often triggered by heavy rainfall, is a common natural disaster in Indonesia, and is the third most common type of disaster in Sumedang Regency. Hence, flood-susceptibility mapping is essential for flood management. The primary challenge in this lies in the complex, non-linear relationships between indices and risk levels. To address this, the application of random forest (RF) and frequency ratio (FR) methods has been explored. Ten flood-conditioning factors were determined from the references: the distance from a river, elevation, geology, geomorphology, lithology, land use/land cover, rainfall, slope, soil type, and topographic wetness index (TWI). The 35 flood locations from the flood-inventory map were selected, and the remaining 18 flood locations were used for justifying the outcomes. The flooded areas from the RF model were 28.39%; the rest (71.61%) were non-flooded areas. Also, the flooded areas from the FR method were 8.02%, and the non-flooded areas were 91.98%. The AUC for both methods was a similar value – 83.0%. This result is quite accurate and can be used by policymakers to prevent and manage future flooding in the Sumedang area. These results can also be used as materials for updating existing flood-susceptibility maps.

The present study aims to delineate the groundwater potential zones (GWPZ) in the Boudinar Basin using geospatial techniques and through an analytical hierarchal process (AHP) method. For multi criteria decision analysis, fifteen thematic layers were integrated into a geographic information system (GIS) environment. In this analysis, each thematic layer is calculated for normalized weights. Furthermore, the consistency index and consistency ratio were calculated to ensure that the result was significant and reliable. The GWPZ map has been categorized into three classes: poor (50.82%), moderate (49.06%), and good (<1.00%). To compare the result, we used four other scenarios of the GWPZ. Two of them are the most similar to our result. Finally, predictive groundwater production and management strategies that ensure long-term sustainability are highly needed.

The aim of the work was to test the radiometric correction of images taken from a Parrot Sequoia+ camera mounted on UAV. Therefore, a script was written in Matlab environment to enable radiometric correction of the obtained images. The images were subjected to the correction process using the Matlab script and the commercial software Pix4D. The results were compared, and the study found a significant improvement in the radiometry in both cases. The computational process eliminated the influence of variable in-flight insolation caused by cloud cover. The software developed for the article was found to be as good as the commercial one.

A displacement sensor based on polarization-maintaining fiber has been proposed and proved in experiment. The polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) is sandwiched with two graded-index multimode fibers (GI MMF), which form the Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) sensor. Graded-index multimode fiber serve as an optical coupler for modes conversion. The results show that with the increase of displacement, the spectrum moves to the long wavelength direction, but when temperature increases, the spectrum has a red shift, which means that the displacement and temperature can be measured separately according to the wavelength drift direction. The sensor consists of 4 mm GI MMF and 14 mm PMF, which can exhibit the displacement sensitivity of –9.275 pm/μm in the range of 0–600 μm. In addition, temperature will also affect the sensitivity of displacement measurement, so the sensitivity of the sensor to temperature is also measured. The results show that the selected monitoring dip provides a better temperature sensitivity of 33.605 pm/°C in the range of 35–75°C. The sensor is easy to fabricate and does not has any functional coating, which make it become a good candidate in the industrial field.

Opis:
This study focuses on the problem of mapping impervious surfaces in urban areas and aims to use remote sensing data and orthophotos to accurately classify and map these surfaces. Impervious surface indices and green space assessments are widely used in land use and urban planning to evaluate the urban environment. Local governments also rely on impervious surface mapping to calculate stormwater fees and effectively manage stormwater runoff. However, accurately determining the size of impervious surfaces is a significant challenge. This study proposes the use of the Support Vector Machines (SVM) method, a pattern recognition approach that is increasingly used in solving engineering problems, to classify impervious surfaces. The research results demonstrate the effectiveness of the SVM method in accurately estimating impervious surfaces, as evidenced by a high overall accuracy of over 90% (indicated by the Cohen’s Kappa coefficient). A case study of the “Parkowo-Leśne” housing estate in Warsaw, which covers an area of 200,000 m², shows the successful application of the method. In practice, the remote sensing imagery and SVM method allowed accurate calculation of the area of the surface classes studied. The permeable surface represented about 67.4% of the total complex and the impervious surface corresponded to the remaining 32.6%. These results have implications for stormwater management, pollutant control, flood control, emergency management, and the establishment of stormwater fees for individual properties. The use of remote sensing data and the SVM method provides a valuable approach for mapping impervious surfaces and improving urban land use management.
Studium przypadku osiedla „Parkowo-Leśne” w Warszawie o powierzchni 200 000 m² pokazuje skuteczne zastosowanie metody. Wyniki wskazują, że powierzchnie przepuszczalne stanowiły około 67,4% całego kompleksu, podczas gdy powierzchnie nieprzepuszczalne stanowiły pozostałe 32,6%. Wyniki te mogą mieć wpływ na zarządzanie wodami opadowymi, kontrolę zanieczyszczeń, zapobieganie powodziom, zarządzanie kryzysowe i ustalanie opłat za wodę opadową dla poszczególnych nieruchomości. Wykorzystanie danych teledetekcyjnych i metody SVM zapewnia cenne podejście do wizualizacji powierzchni nieprzepuszczalnych i poprawy zarządzania użytkowaniem gruntów miejskich.

Opis:
Air pollution (especially near industrial enterprises that are located mainly in densely populated regions) is one of the most significant problems of modern ecology. The purpose of this research is to study nitrogen dioxide air pollution over Ukraine, which has a negative impact on human health. As part of the research over the territory of Ukraine, the real planar distribution of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) as well as its local emissions (which make the main contribution to this distribution) were revealed using the materials of the remote sensing of the Earth from the AURA satellite. The results were calculated for the multi-year period of 2005 through 2021 and separately for 2022, which characterized the full-scale war in Ukraine and which made it possible to identify priority polluters; namely, industrial enterprises (thermal power plants, heavy metallurgy enterprises, etc.). For 17 years, the average value of NO2 was 160.78 · 102 molecules/mm2; in 2022, its concentration decreased to 126.93·109 molecules/mm2. The war manifested itself due to the shutdown of industrial enterprises, which were (and remain) priority polluters in Ukraine (particularly in large cities).
