In the automated environments, mobile robots play an important role to perform different tasks such as objects transportation and material handling. In this paper, a new method for a glassy elevator handling system based on H20 mobile robots is presented to connect distributed life science laboratories in multiple floors. Various labware and tube racks have to be transported to different workstations. Locating of elevator door, entry button detection, internal buttons recognition, robot arm manipulation, current floor estimation, and elevator door status checking are the main operations to realize a successful elevator handling system. The H20 mobile robot has dual arms where each arm consists of 6 revolute joints and a gripper. The gripper has two degrees of freedom. Different sensors have been employed with the robot to handle these operations such as Intel RealSense F200 vision sensor for entry and internal buttons detection with position estimation. A pressure sensor is used for current floor estimation inside the elevator. Also, an ultrasonic proximity distance sensor is utilized for checking the elevator door status. Different strategies including HSL color representation, adaptive binary threshold, optical character recognition, and FIR smoothing filter have been employed for the elevator operations. For pressing operation, a hand camera base and a new elevator finger model are designed. The elevator finger is resolved in a way to fit the arm gripper which is used also to manipulate the labware containers. The Kinematic solution is utilized for controlling the arms’ joints. A server/client socket architecture with TCP/IP command protocol is used for data exchange between Multi-Floor System and the H20 robot arms. Many experiments were conducted in life science laboratories to validate the developed systems. Experimental results prove an efficient performance with high success rate under different lightening condition.

Artykuł stawia pytanie o kulturową funkcję filozofii oraz filozofowania i analizuje metafilozofię Leszka Nowaka i Józefa Niżnika interpretując je jako kulturę filozofii. To znaczy, redefiniuje ogólne cechy filozofii, wskazane przez Nowaka i Niżnika w ich analizach metafilozoficznych, jako względnie powszechnie podzielane przez filozofów założenia na temat ich dyscypliny. Tego rodzaju redefinicja filozofii jako gry kulturowej pozwala zapytać w dalszej kolejności o to, jakiego rodzaju poznawczą grą kulturową jest filozofia. Aby odpowiedzieć na to pytanie stosuję model czterech typów poznania Andrzeja Zybertowicza, który wyróżnia odtwarzanie, odkrywanie, redefiniowanie oraz projektowanie gier kulturowych. Na koniec tekstu podążam za tezą Niżnika mówiącą, że funkcja filozofii polega na uspójnianiu uniwersum symbolicznego w sytuacjach jego naruszenia (co nazywam dziurami ontologicznymi) i przedstawiam dwa przykłady z historii filozofii rozpoznania tego rodzaju naruszenia, które następnie uzyskało filozoficzną konceptualizację.
The article raises the question of cultural function of philosophy and acts of philosophizing. The argument that follows reinterprets Leszek Nowak’s and Józef Niżnik’s metaphilosophical theories as philosophical culture, i.e. the essential features of philosophy indicated by Nowak and Niżnik, are viewed as relatively common presuppositions about philosophy shared by philosophers (implicitly or explicitly). In this way, viewing philosophy as cultural game leads to the question of what kind of epistemological-cultural game philosophy would be. I address the question by referring to Andrzej Zybertowicz’s model of four types of epistemological-cultural games: reproduction, discovery, redefinition, and design. In the final part of the text, I follow Niżnik’s idea that the function of philosophy is to patch up cracks (which I dub “ontological holes) in human symbolic universe and briefly analyze two examples from history of philosophy of such breaks that lead to development of fully fledged philosophical stances.

This article describes a school intervention program that was initiated and developed by a small team in one of the schools in the city of Nazareth, Israel. The proposed program is intended to promote academic perseverance and thereby reduce dropout rates, providing youth at risk with a variety of personal and interpersonal skills that are important both for studies and for labor world. The findings showed that combining learning with work in the candle factory promoted attendance and reduced violent behavior in school.

In this paper, I present Christine Korsgaard’s style of building a conception of animal rights protection based on a concept of Kantian provenance, namely “end in itself”. Considering that an end in itself in Immanuel Kant’s philosophy includes only human beings, the American philosopher needed to modify (extend) the meaning of the abovementioned concept. This study aims at showing this change of the meaning in categories derived from Fregean semantics (sense and reference). Moreover, I will attempt to prove that by broadening the extension of “end in itself” Korsgaard uses a strategy called ethical extensionism and situates the revised (naturalized) categorical imperative ipso facto within environmental ethics. I start with elucidating Korsgaard’s views on the meaning of “end in itself” before she took interest in animal rights (set out mainly in Kant’s Formula of Humanity and The Sources of Normativity) and then I synthetically describe her animal rights philosophy with a special regard to the category of “natural good”. The second part of the article explains the methodology used in the paper, while the last part is intended to be an interpretation of Korsgaard’s thought.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this article is to present healthcare professionals’ opinions on their sense of health security in relation to their jobs in the pandemic situation and to assess effectiveness of the work environment management. Design/methodology/approach: Management of Polish healthcare institutions, due to a strategic role of this sector and its connection with public finance, has been a source of numerous problems for many years. All weaknesses of the healthcare system in terms of human resources and organisation have been clearly exposed in the time of COVID-19 pandemic. Being faced with it, healthcare institutions and their employees struggle with problems of a greater work-related burden, arduous working conditions and continued concerns about their health and life. The research was conducted in December 2020 on a representative sample of healthcare professionals with the aim to identify their opinions on functioning in the workplace during the COVID-19 pandemic. For the research purposes, the CATI technique was applied with a Likert scale-based questionnaire. Findings: The research findings outline the work environments of healthcare professionals during the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic and their effects on the sense of security. Research limitations/implications: Due to the period of the research conduct, its results have a unique quality and enable depicting the current situation and problems of the medical community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as the worldwide scale of the COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented situation considering its spread, the use of resources as well as organisational and political solutions, problem research literature on the subject was unavailable in the process of preparing the study. Practical implication: The conclusions of the research draw attention to the need of using modern technologies in strategic management of internal communication systems, especially during crises such as a pandemic. Originality/value: The results of the research give a unique picture of healthcare professionals’ opinions referring to sense of health security and the state of the health system during the pandemic.

The aim of this paper is to show how contemporary children’s fantasy fiction offers alternative methods to children and teenagers for confronting real-life issues, such as self-discovery, sense of belonging and the process of individuation, through the analysis of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline. In his contemporary children’s fantasy book, Gaiman empowers his protagonist to explore her sense of self, overcome her insecurities and fears in a fantastic mirror-like home. This paper argues that fantasy is an effective device for explaining the complexities and dilemmas of the self and examining a child’s quest for self-discovery in the process of maturation and individuation.

Introduction. Fear appeals are a common tactic used in work safety interventions to motivate farmers to adopt safer behaviours. They begin by introducing a threat, followed by information on how to remove the threat. However, fear appeals tend to be ineffective when developed without a firm grasp of the cognitive processes underlying behavioural change. Although previous research on farm safety interventions have investigated fear appeals, they have focused on very narrow threats and behaviours, such as tractor or cow safety, while others have studied the threats but not the cognitive processing. Consequently, not enough is known about the range of threats that evoke fear, how farmers behave when under threat, or their general cognitive beliefs regarding self-efficacy, response cost and response efficacy. In In this study, 23 Swedish Farmers were interviewed and participated in a work safety intervention to identify the range of threats farmers perceive, and actions taken to remove those threats. Materials and method. The extended parallel processing model was used to gain insights into how farmers cognitively processed threats and their subsequent behaviour. Interestingly, it was found that farmers were more fearful of work safety threats related to family members and employees—yet the actions they took to reduce threats were mostly personal in nature. To help explain this finding, a typology of threat complexity was developed by the authors. Results. It was found that simple, common, and direct threats to safety tended to lead to adaptive, threat-reducing behaviours, whereas complex, general, or indirect threats promoted more maladaptive behaviours that reduced fear, but not the threats.

The article presents main assumptions about self-defence, particularly trainings aimed at educating women, with special focus on actions initiated by the City Guard in Toruń. The Jestem bezpieczna [I Am Safe] self-defence courses for women, organized since 2006, are an important element in strengthening individual security of female residents of Toruń. Although at times such courses are subject to criticism, they have their undeniable advantages, which are specified in this article.
W artykule przedstawiono główne założenia dotyczące samoobrony, zwłaszcza szkoleń ukierunkowanych na edukowanie kobiet, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem działań inicjowanych przez toruńską Straż Miejską. Organizowane od 2006 roku kursy samoobrony dla kobiet pod nazwą „Jestem bezpieczna” stanowią ważny element kształtowania bezpieczeństwa indywidualnego wśród mieszkanek Torunia. Choć przeprowadzanie takich zajęć bywa poddawane krytyce, wiąże się jednocześnie z niewątpliwymi zaletami, co wyszczególniono w niniejszym tekście.

The article examines the Phalène or Poetic Act, a mode of poetry as collective action formulated by the poet Godofredo Iommi. The authors analyse how the Phalène opened a creative heritage from the early experiences carried out by Iommi in Europe during the 1960s to the current poetic endeavours of the School of Architecture and Design PUCV in Valparaíso, Chile. Through analysing the Phalène, the article provides new perspectives on the relationship between poetry and urban space. About this relationship, the authors propose the Phalène as a poetic act of placemaking in which the ephemeral presence of the uttered word unleashes ludic interactions in the participants provoking the construction of commonality and the resignification of the place.

Wrodzona niepełnosprawność ruchowa jest dla człowieka wyzwaniem, które może znacząco modyfikować przeżywanie własnej dorosłości. Niezbędne jest nieustanne pogłębianie wiedzy o zasobach, które mogą wspomagać psychospołeczną adaptację osób z wrodzoną niepełnosprawnością ruchową. Takimi zasobami mogą być samoocena, wewnętrzne poczucie kontroli oraz poczucie koherencji.Cel badań: Celem przeprowadzonych badań było określenie relacji pomiędzy samooceną, umiejscowieniem poczucia kontroli i poczuciem koherencji wśród młodych dorosłych osób z wrodzoną niepełnosprawnością ruchową.Metoda badań: Zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego, a w jej ramach następujące narzędzia badawcze: skalę SES Rosenberga w polskiej adaptacji Łaguny, Lachowicz – Tabaczek i Dzwonkowskiej, kwestionariusz Delta autorstwa Drwala, oraz zmodyfikowaną wersję kwestionariusza SOC-29 autorstwa Antonovsky’ego.Wyniki: Wykazano istotne związki pomiędzy samooceną a umiejscowieniem poczucia kontroli i poczuciem koherencji oraz umiejscowieniem poczucia kontroli a poczuciem koherencji.Wnioski: Samoocena, wewnętrzne poczucie kontroli oraz poczucie koherencji są ze sobą istotnie związane. Mogą się wzajemnie warunkować i przyczyniać do wzajemnego wzrostu.
Congenital motor disability is for man a challenge, which can significantly modify experiencing one’s adulthood. It is necessary to deepen the knowledge about resources, which can support psychosocial adaptation of people with congenital motor disability. Self-esteem, internal locus of control and sense of coherence can be such resources.  Aim of the research: The aim of the research was to determine the relationship between self-esteem, locus of control and sense of coherence in young adults with congenital motor disability.Methods of the research: The research was carried out using the method of diagnostic survey. The following research tools were used: The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES) in Polish adaptation of Łaguna, Lachowicz-Tabaczek and Dzwonkowska, Delta Questionnaire by Drwal and Antonovsky's modified Sense Of Coherence - 29 Questionnaire.Results: Significant correlations between self-esteem and internal locus of control and sense of coherenee were shown, as well as between internal locus of control and sense of coherence.Conclusions: Self-esteem, internal locus of control and sense of coherence are significantly related to each other. These resources can condition each other and contribute to reciprocal growth.

In this paper we extend the well known Riesz lemma to the class of bounded \(\varphi\)-variation functions in the sense of Riesz defined on a rectangle \(I_a^b\subset \mathbb{R}^2\). This concept was introduced in [2], where the authors proved that the space \(BV_\varphi^R (I_a^b;\mathbb{R}\) of such functions is a Banach Algebra. Moreover, they characterized also the Nemytskii operator acting in this space. Thus our result creates a continuation of the paper [2].

In this paper we study existence and uniqueness of solutions for the Hammerstein equation \[ u(x)= v(x) + \lambda \int_{I_{a}^{b}}K(x,y)f(y,u(y))dy \] \noi in the space of function of bounded total $\varphi$-variation in the sense of Hardy-Vitali-Tonelli, where $\lambda\in \mathbb{R}$, $K:I_a^b\times I_a^b \longrightarrow \mathbb{R}$ and $f:I_a^b\times \mathbb{R} \longrightarrow \mathbb{R}$ are suitable functions. The existence and uniqueness of solutions are proved by means of the Leray-Schauder nonlinear alternative and the Banach contraction mapping principle.

Opis:
This study is based on the assumption that the primary aim of the emergence of states was to provide security and development opportunities for its citizens. This objective determines the method of exercising power, the applicable legal system reflecting the adopted norms of social coexistence, and the public administration system. It was also presumed that security is associated with a sense of threat and confidence. They can be both objective and subjective, which means that they can be measurable or not. Due to the fact that while there are no major problems with determining the definition of a state, there are still difficulties related to identifying the essence of security and, consequently, also the security of the state. Therefore, the paper is based on the results of the bibliographic method and presents an overview of representative outlooks on issues related to threats, security and national security. This was done by reference to works created on the basis of the law, political sciences, and security sciences. The work was divided into three parts. The first introduces the considerations. The second presents views allowing the nature of security to be determined, and the third part presents the subject-entity scope of state security and the determinants of that security.
