The aim of this paper is to present and confirm a given ontological truth which underlies every translation process being an act of communication. In other words, this paper aims at characterizing ontological specifics of translation process in its multi-dimensional diversity. Interpretative analysis of this issue is rooted in anthropocentric translation studies developed by F. Grucza. Moreover, it is based on its main paradigm and included in the tasks of pure translation studies which are to describe and characterize the model of translation relationship. Transcendence (Lat. transcendere) means to go beyond or to surpass the limits. Thus, strictly in reference to translation perceived as communication, it is the process of going beyond ontological limits which is characteristic to every linguistic communication. This process results in establishing a two-dimensional semiotic configuration in which a mental and conceptual construct (recognized by the subject who is communicatively active) remains in semiotic transcendence with the text being a materially existing signal and manifested by tangible signs.

Election campaigns become the most suitable spatio-temporal contexts where and when any (possible) President/ MP will implicitly or explicitly connect to some powerful mental images, adapted to the social and cultural embeddings. My paper focuses on the study of three election posters (fixed images) during the 2000 and 2004 election campaigns in Romania, having as their main protagonist Traian Basescu, the actual president of Romania. The reason for my choice lies in Basescu’s attempt to break the monotony of empty words glued next to a mere collection of manly busts, through the use of some creative (non)verbal rhetorical devices which should be decoded by voters. My paper is based on two semiotic theories: - Theo van Leeuwen’s social semiotics is the general framework against which the semiotic resources in the three election posters will be analysed. It also provides a “multimodal function of style” which includes a threefold process: writing, speaking and doing. I am of the opinion that the last functional component of style, namely, doing! acting upon allows a text producer to turn into a discursive master. - Umberto Eco’s semiotic theory constitutes the theoretical background of my representing the discursive reinvention of political candidates as a semiotic circle (beginning point - example/ human being; ending point - stylization/ President) which will not be closed. The gap created between these two points suggests that any election stylization should be perceived as an appearance of reality. It was exactly this subtle game between reality and appearance which has driven me to place (conceptual) metaphors as the theoretical basis for the definition of a political discourse (political discourse = fortress). Traian B&sescu19 (and his team) created memorable election posters within these four years because they knew how to manipulate his social position in order to turn any slight hint of fake appearance into an ingredient of some real facts (B&sescu - the mayor of Bucharest, embodying the image of the mentor in 2000; Basescu - the possible president and a former merchant ship captain, embodying the image of the aggressive but justified punisher or the image of the social commander in 2004). The process of decoding the election posters was a subtle invitation for the Romanian reader to interpret every semiotic resources of technical nature (objects of value: a stake and a lollipop) or of physiological nature (hand gestures) through experiential abduction that will bring to surface associate connections stored in the memory of Romanian voters. B&sescu’s new (non)verbal ways of designating a politician’s involvement stops, in a way, the monotony of the inexpressiveness rendered by the vizualization of the political bust. The idiomatic expressions (a fi dus cu zaharelul = to believe in eye candy, a da (eapa = to give the shaft; to impale) coincide with the colloquial language style, the unpolished charisma and the sense of humor Traian Basescu is famous for.

Semiotic self has the ability to thinking through sign forms about phenomena which experiences and identity also occur in special sign representations. In activity the thought gets the sign forms representing phenomena, in the experience it has the symbolic form, in the reflection it gains the form of identity signs. Negligence in thinking of representation of action objects, feeling relations, and axiological reflection seems to be the reason why the social context of self in psychological conceptions becomes some anonymous society, abstract culture and history.

Opis:
At the end of the twentieth century, the phenomenon of mass culture was the focus of scholarly attention with an ever increasing frequency: theorists of literature and cultural studies, as well as philosophers have developed a number of approaches to the study of popular culture: social, ideological and semiotic. Contemporary researchers are increasingly attracted to the question of the semiotic culture. In this regard, mass culture and accordingly literature are more and more frequently treated not only as a system of signs, but in fact as a sign itself. J. Lotman conducts his analysis through the prism of the literary process and his research methodology is based on literary methods. Once marginal (from the standpoint of the official literary and philosophical criticism), mass literature is going through the phase of ennoblement. It is dual-track in its “intergrowth” and is already facing up the oversignificant new system of modern cultural codes, while still being rooted in the low culture with its specific character of the text encoding. Therefore, following the principle of semiotic analysis, it is inevitable to take into account the interaction of several sign systems while considering the formative dynamics of the modern genrethemed version of popular literature.

In this respect, the culture of ancient Greeks was no exception. This paper aims to present the diversity of animal signs encountered on Greek armament from the Archaic and the Classical periods in an attempt at interpreting them in a military context.

In this article the texts of television commentaries from sports events are analysed. Sports competition is only a pretext and pre¬ text for a linguist. However, these two elements are semantically and chronologically related. The competition must appear first, so that the commentary can be created – a reportage, an interview with a sportsman or an informative description. A linguist is interested in a number of questions; which genre does the media presenter use to describe the sports event in his medium, what is characteristic for these models, what is characteristic for a presenter himself and his discursive perspective? The author of the article consolidates the knowledge gained in the past and uses the tools of textology, genology and discourse analysis in her research on the subject.

The surrealist Quebec poet, painter and artists’ books editor Roland Giguère has based his entire work on a dialogue between poetry and visual arts (painting, serigraphy, typography) in order to experiment the iconicity of writing. He has composed a graphic poetry made of plastic and iconic signs as well as graphic signs, playing with the semiotic ambiguity to create poetic effects and sense. His polysemiotic experiment of the poem based on a specific use of serigraphy has impacted the readability, but has paradoxically shown a new kind of poeticity and the expressiveness of writing. The aim of this article is to establish how the writing subversion and the semiotic experiment allowed by an original use of serigraphy creates poetry.

Opis:
In Les Amours jaunes, Corbière carries out a paradoxical promotion of silence. In fact, the writing features cacophonous poetics. However, the promotion of noise makes it possible to denounce the dysfunction of language. The deceptive experience of communication reveals a wish to implement another mode of emotional transmission. The poet distorts and mocks the romantic tradition to denounce the tricks of a language which is musical and full of imagery. On a quest to find authenticit, he deploys competing and conflicting semiotic layouts which break the textual unity. Renewing the lyrical pact, that fragmentation opens a vacant space that the reader can take over. A reception which is strengthened by the empathic relation between the subject and its recipient is replaced by a formulation based on the evocative power found outside the text. That is definitely a speech ‘addressed’ to the reader but the emotions go through the perception of silence. The formulation of these emotions is suspended, thus letting us read implicitly the mark of its absence. Often considered “unlyrical”, Corbière finds, in the fragile balance between hubbub and silence, an interval filled with the transmission of personal affects.

Opis:
The article focuses on the analysis of women’s and men’s clothing appearances in the pre-bo-urgeois ambience of Kersnik’s novels. Particular clothing items and clothing appearances indicate the presence of specifi c spiritual and social characteristics, typical for the cultural and historical environment in which the two literary works were created. The methodological approach of the analysis in terms of theory is based on general semiotic theory (Eco, Lotman), cultural semiotics (Barthes), literary theory and literary history, Lotman’s symbol theory, clothing culture, discourse analysis and Bourdieu’s theory of habitus. The article discusses separately the clothing appearan-ces of male and female characters. The descriptions of clothing appearances reveal the socio-histo-rical background of the literary works as well as many other abstract categories such as characters’ mental states, their ideologies, political beliefs, positive and negative character attributes as well as their moral virtues and vices. Clothes as part of the pre-bourgeois habitus try to establish a balance between the urban and the rural, between prestige and humility, between refi nement and coar-seness. Irony is often a result of the contrast between the physical determinants and the associate variable, i.e. the clothing. The author uses a range of various clothing appearances to characterize and mock different classes of people; the trivial conversations about fashion denote the banality of social life; the differences between the “true” bourgeoisie and those who strive to reach and fi t into that social class are already strongly indicated in the descriptions of their external appearances.

The present study examined the genre of Iraqi wedding invitation cards (WICs) in terms of its textual and visual components, and the impact of the social norms and assumptions on the articulation of these components. Drawing upon three analytic tools, namely, genre analysis proposed by Swales (1990) and Bhatia (2004), semiotic analysis suggested by Kress and Van Leeuwen (2001), and critical discourse analysis advocated by Fairclough (2010), a sample of 250 WICs was selected to be considered for analysis. Corpus analysis showed that Iraqi WICs varied in terms of their non-linguistic features like printed forms, colors, layouts, calligraphy, graphics, and paper materials. On the other hand, the underlying schematic organization of Iraqi WICs was built around seven component moves. Furthermore, Islamic religious beliefs and Iraqi socio-cultural system were clearly encoded in these wedding invitation texts affecting their organization structure.

Giving meaning applies to listening to the message as well as to analysing the conditions under which it occurred in a specific situation and finally to interpreting received content. The analysis of the interviews was done on the basis of semiotic analysis.

The article focuses on the media transformation of literary works. B. Jasieński’s futurist poem Marsz, published in the interwar period in printed form, recently underwent a multimedia adaptation. The author analyzes the mutations the literary text underwent in interpretation and significance when expressed in the new creative forms of contemporary multimedia “language”. The analysis of the formal structure and of several, sometimes small semantic elements, shows the different way of understanding the poem as expressed through new multimedia means. The futurist poem Marsz has been read as an ironical poem, totally contradicting its original literal meaning. The second part of the article examines a digital version of the poem, which again changes its original meaning. At this moment in time, the relationship between the textuality and virtuality of poetry (and literature in general) constitutes the main space where art “happens” and manifests itself. Thus, the discussion over the digital version of Jasieński’s poem leads to some general considerations about contemporary theory of image and its anthropological expressions.

The analysis of the theoretical possibility of modifying the neural network learning mechanism is carried out. Classic semiotic analysis and the theory of neural networks is proposed to union. An assumption is made about the possibility of using the symmetry mechanism to accelerate the training of convolutional neural networks. A multilayer neural network to represent how space is an attempt has been made. The conclusion was based on the laws on the plane obtained earlier. The derivation of formulas turned out to be impossible due to the problems of modern mathematics. A new approach is proposed, which involves combining the gradient descent algorithm and the stochastic completion of convolutional filters by the principles of symmetries. The identified algorithms allow increasing the learning rate from 5% to 15%, depending on the problem that the neural network solves.

The language and other media used in educational practices do not simply transmit the ideas and intentions of speakers and writers. The practices themselves shape and are shaped by what is said. The texts produced by speakers and writers in a practice such as mathematics education thus draw on ways of construing the world that are legitimate within the practice and also constrain the ways in which listeners and readers may respond.Discourse analytic methods drawing on Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics provide means of describing the world of mathematics education through analysis of its spoken and written texts. This allows us to address questions about the nature of mathematics and mathematical activity and about the nature of teaching and learning, of teachers and of students as these are produced in the texts of a given practice. This article is based on a plenary lecture presented at the Children’s Mathematical Education conference held in Poznań, Poland in July 2014. In it, I discuss a discourse analytic theoretical and methodological approach to researching mathematics education and illustrate this with examples drawn from investigations of curriculum and classroom practice.
