Opis:
While optimizing tolerances in tolerance chains only single characteristics or objectives of single process steps are considered, there is no information exchange across all processes. Interdependencies between processes, materials, means of production and individuals acting in this environment as well as their effect on product variations are usually not fully understood. In order to face a dynamisation of process specification, interdependencies have to be identified and integrated in future production. The holistic consideration of the process chain focused on the allocation of tolerances allows detection of correlations and interdependencies in the production process itself. By this, process chain information is traced back to conduct the right optimizations at the right place in the process chain. But therefore intelligent controlling mechanisms are needed to analyze and optimize even complex production systems with multi-level interdependencies. Such a cognitive system is able to form the core of self-optimizing production system. Using this cognitive system, the production process of an automotive rear-axle drive is optimized in order to minimize disturbances created by structure-borne sound emissions. Therefore several cognitive technologies have been evaluated to fulfil specific tasks in process optimization.

Opis:
The contact patterns of bevel gear sets are an important indicator for the acoustic quality of rear axle drives. The contact patterns are the result of complex interactions in the production process. This is due to many process steps, numerous influencing factors and interdependencies. In general, their effect on product variations is not fully comprehended. This impedes the design and control of the production process based on a holistic analytical model for new variants fulfilling the acoustic requirements. The approach with self-optimization is possible but can take a long time for the training of the artificial neural networks and the necessary iterations until a satisfying precision for the predicted process parameters is achieved. Also it can occur that the algorithm is not converging and therefore no satisfactory result is turned out at all. In this paper an approach is presented combining the flexibility of self-optimizing systems with the higher precision of delimited solution finders called the Cognitive Failure Cluster (CFC). The improvements provided by the clustering of the optimization program are evaluated regarding the training time and the precision of the result for a production lot of bevel gear sets.

Opis:
Today, value chains are considered fractionally and on the basis of simplified model assumptions. Interactions between processes, materials, means of production and individuals acting in this environment as well as the effect of changes on the product usually are not known exhaustively. In order to take corrective actions towards these deficits, self-optimizing production system technologies can be used. They provide systems that emulate the "human" ability of reaching a decision with technical architectures. The goal of these approaches is to steadily analyze and evaluate the actual status in technological as well as in organisational areas and conduct a system adaptation to alternating objectives. Central questioning in this field of research is how to survey production data in order to detect correlations of production parameters and their influence on product parameters, how to derive decisions from this knowledge and how to learn from the consequences. Application technologies capable of taking on these tasks of self-optimization to emulate intelligent behaviour are analysed. The aim is to identify the competencies of these technologies, in order to build a cognitive system architecture based on applications especially suited for each task that has to be fulfilled to emulate cognitive human decision making processes.

The production of automotive rear-axle drives is a complex process. This is due to many involved process steps, factors and interdependencies between processes, materials, means of production and individuals acting in this environment. In general their effect on product variations is not fully comprehended. Hence, a holistic analytical model is only possible in parts of the production. In this paper a modular approach is presented to make the production more flexible and enable it to react faster on product variations. This is achieved by a Cognitive Production System (CPS), which is based on accumulating, storing and processing of process knowledge so that it can be applied to similar cases. Through the combination and interaction of Cognitive Tolerance Matching (CTM) and Agent-based Systems the performance of the CPS is enhanced. The work discusses the set-up of such a CPS for the production of automotive rear-axle-drives with the focus on the failure state agent.

In order to overcome the shortcomings of the dolphin algorithm, which is prone to falling into local optimum and premature conver-gence, an improved dolphin swarm algorithm, based on the standard dolphin algorithm, was proposed. As a measure of uncertainty, information entropy was used to measure the search stage in the dolphin swarm algorithm. Adaptive step size parameters and dynamic balance factors were introduced to correlate the search step size with the number of iterations and fitness, and to perform adaptive adjustment of the algorithm. Simulation experiments show that, comparing with the basic algorithm and other algorithms, the improved dolphin swarm algorithm is feasible and effective.

This paper is focused on the adaptation of control parameters in differential evolution. Competition of various control parameter settings was proposed in order to ensure self-adaptation of parameter values in the search process. Several variants of such algorithm were tested on six functions at four levels of the search-space dimension. The competitive variants of differential evolution have proved to be more reliable and less time-consuming than the standard differential evolution. The competitive variants have also outperformed other tested algorithms in their reliability and convergence rate.

In Adam Smith’s Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations the term ‘rational’ occurs only twice. Neither of these uses assigns the property of rationality either to human beings or to economic agents. Despite that, Smith is widely recognised as the founder of modern mainstream economics, a science which is defined by the assumption of the rationality of an economic agent. This paper aims to locate and discuss the notion of rationality which is implied by Smith’s work. To achieve that a double-track approach is taken. First, the current paper reconstructs Smith’s general view on human nature which was presented mainly in his earlier book The Theory of Moral Sentiments. This is followed by a discussion of Smith’s theses on selected mechanisms which drive the economy as presented in The Wealth of Nations.

Opis:
For a simplified sonar dome model, an optimization method for internal gradients of functionally graded material (FGM) acoustic windows is proposed in this paper. This method can be used to design optimized FGM acoustic windows with better turbulent self-noise suppression and sound transmission performances. A theoretical model of FGM acoustic windows to evaluate the reduction of self-noise caused by the turbulent boundary layer (TBL) pulsating pressure and the sound transmission loss (STL) is derived through the double Fourier transform and the wavenumber frequency spectrum analysis, respectively, based on the transfer matrix idea and the classical elastic theory. The accuracy of the theory is verified by the finite element results of COMSOL Multiphysics. Utilizing the genetic algorithm (GA) and taking the monotonic gradient as the constraint condition, the internal gradient optimization method of FGM acoustic windows obtains the optimization variables in the Bernstein polynomial when the optimization objective is minimized by iterating the optimization variables in the deviation function represented by the Bernstein polynomial that is introduced in the gradient function. The STL, the turbulent self-noise reduction or a weighting function of the STL and turbulent self-noise reduction of FGM acoustic windows is chosen as the optimization objective. The optimization calculation of the sound transmission or turbulent self-noise suppression performances is carried out for the FRP-rubber FGM (FGM with fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) as the substrate material and rubber as the top material) acoustic window. The optimized results show that both the sound transmission and turbulent self-noise suppression performance are effectively improved, which verifies the effectiveness of the optimization method. Finally, the mechanism of the sound transmission and self-noise suppression characteristics before and after optimization are explained and analyzed based on the equivalent model of graded materials. The research results of this paper provide a reference value for the future design of FGM acoustic windows for sonar domes.

The paper proposes a new dynamic model based on the LuGre model and an electrical equation to describe the hysteresis phenomenon for a magnetorheological (MR) damper. In addition, a sliding mode observer (SMO) is proposed to estimate unmeasurable states of the MR damper. The parameters of the MR damper are successfully identified by using the self-learning particle swarm optimization (SLPSO) algorithm. The contributions of this paper are: i) a new dynamic model based on the LuGre model and an electrical equation for an MR damper is successfully formulated to fit for the hysteresis behavior, ii) the exerted damping force can be practically adjusted by using input voltage for the dynamic model, iii) the SMO is proposed to estimate the internal states and current, and iv) the unknown parameters of the MR damper are successfully identified by using the SLPSO algorithm with a numerical experiment.

Opis:
Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) variants have become popular in recent years. The main idea of these adaptive PSO variants is that they adaptively change their search behavior during the optimization process based on information gathered during the run. Adaptive PSO variants have shown to be able to solve a wide range of difficult optimization problems efficiently and effectively. In this paper we propose a Repulsive Self-adaptive Acceleration PSO (RSAPSO) variant that adaptively optimizes the velocity weights of every particle at every iteration. The velocity weights include the acceleration constants as well as the inertia weight that are responsible for the balance between exploration and exploitation. Our proposed RSAPSO variant optimizes the velocity weights that are then used to search for the optimal solution of the problem (e.g., benchmark function). We compare RSAPSO to four known adaptive PSO variants (decreasing weight PSO, time-varying acceleration coefficients PSO, guaranteed convergence PSO, and attractive and repulsive PSO) on twenty benchmark problems. The results show that RSAPSO achives better results compared to the known PSO variants on difficult optimization problems that require large numbers of function evaluations.

Self-adjoint extensions are constructed for a family of boundary value problems in domains with a thin ligament and an asymptotic analysis of a Lq-continuous functional is performed. The results can be used in numerical methods of shape and topology optimization of integral functionals for elliptic equations. At some stage of optimization process the singular perturbation of geometrical domain by an addition of thin ligament can be replaced by its approximation denned for the appropriate self-adjoint extension of the elliptic operator. In this way the topology variation of current geometrical domain can be determined and used e.g., in the level-set type methods of shape optimization.

This paper serves as a tutorial on the use of neural networks for solving combinatorial optimization problems. It reviews the two main classes of neural network models : the gradient-based neural networks such as the Hopfield network, and the deformable template approaches such as the elastic net method and self organizing maps. In each class, the original model is presented, its limitations discussed, and subsequent developments and extensions are reviewed. Particular emphasis is placed on stochastic and chaotic variations on the neural network models designed to improve the optimization performance. Finally, the performance of these neural network models is compared and discussed relative to other heuristic approaches.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and Strontium titanate (SrTiO3) are well-known photocatalysts. Today, the photocatalytic activity of dyes on fabrics has attracted much attention. Therefore in this study the photocatalytic activity of nano strontium titanate mixed with nano titania was examined while being coated on cotton fabric under UV irradiation at different nano material concentrations and various pHs. The Central Composite Design (CCD) was used for different variables based on Design Expert software. The crystal size and phase of nano titania and strontium titanate were characterised by XRD. The cotton fabrics stained with two common synthesised dyes were treated under 400 W UV irradiation for 30 hours and their self-cleaning properties were investigated by reflectance spectrophotometer. SEM photos show the pervasion of nano materials. The results show that samples treated with SrTiO3 and TiO2 have higher values of ΔE* as compared with those treated with TiO2 or SrTiO3 alone.
