In the talk, we will present persistent efforts to provide modern mathematical education to children aged 7–10 years in the period of the partitions and the two-decade interwar period. Partic-ular attention will be paid to the works of now-forgotten Jeske (1836–1875), Jeleńska (1885–1961), Rusiecki (1892–1956). We will also underline the commitment of university professors of mathematics to mathematical education of younger children, including Banach (1892–1945). We will refer to the modern conception of teaching mathematics to younger children, among others, to the concept of children;s mathematics developed by Gruszczyk-Kolczyńska. We will observe the metamorphosis of the role of the decimal system of counting in the mathematical education of children in Poland in the period under discussion. An expanded paper was presented by the author at the 36 International conference of History of mathematics in 2015 in Poděbrady (see Domoradzki, 2015, p. 25–44).

The text defi nes such notions as culture, cultural studies, fundamental sciences, and culturalism. It argues that cultural studies are fundamental sciences in three important senses: 1) theoretical (the object of research of science has its inevitable cultural dimension), 2) practical (the ability to manipulate signs, symbols, information and other products of culture is crucial in the age of cognitive capitalism), and also 3) axiological (in the context of contemporary ecological risks we cannot aim at further conquest of Nature, but we should rather try to understand mechanisms shaping various spheres of culture: economics, religion, tradition, art, politics and science).

Przedstawiona w tym artykule treść wskazuje na potrzebę uwzględnienia w polskich klasyfikacjach nauk dziedziny nauk ekologicznych lub w innym sformułowaniu dziedziny nauk środowiskowych. Oba wyrażenia są wystarczająco uzasadnione, aby je przyjąć i uwzględnić w polskiej klasyfikacji nauk. Ponadto w tej klasyfikacji wyróżniono dyscyplinę: nauki ekologiczne lub nauki środowiskowe. Wprowadzenie takiej dziedziny nauk ekologicznych (środowiskowych) i dyscypliny nauk ekologicznych (środowiskowych) umożliwi uczelniom wyższym nadawanie stopni naukowych i tytułu naukowego w dziedzinie nauk ekologicznych (środowiskowych) i w zakresie określonych dyscyplin nauk ekologicznych (środowiskowych) oraz w kierunku studiów: ochrona środowiska. Wykształceni specjaliści w tym kierunku studiów, w tak określonej dyscyplinie i dziedzinie nauk ekologicznych (środowiskowych) mieliby formalną podstawę do prowadzenia badań naukowych o charakterze interdyscyplinarnym i systemowym oraz do tworzenia jednostek organizacyjnych z uprawnieniami do nadawania stopni naukowych w dyscyplinie nauk ekologicznych (środowiskowych) i tytułu naukowego w dziedzinie nauk ekologicznych (środowiskowych).
The presented essence of this article reveals a need of taking an area of ecological sciences or an area of environmental sciences. in other words, into account in the Polish classification of sciences. Both expressions are justified sufficiently to be accepted and taken into consideration in the Polish classification of sciences. Besides, there was a distinguished discipline: ecological sciences, or environmental sciences. An application of such the area of ecological (environmental) sciences and the discipline of ecological (environmental) sciences will enable academic schools to confer scientific degrees and scientific title in the area of ecological (environmental) sciences and within the range of determined disciplines of ecological (environmental) sciences, and a specialization: preservation of the environment. Educated specialists of this matter, of such the determined discipline and area of ecological (environmental) sciences, may have a formal basis to make researches of interdisciplinary and of system character and to create organizational units with a license to confer the scientific degrees in the discipline of ecological (environmental) sciences, and the scientifical title in the area of ecological (environmental) sciences.

In this paper I will try to look to the past in the present as the possible future of social science. My argument proceeds in the first section to explore a genealogy of social science as planning the future. The planning to design people is visible in the long nineteenth century. This planning to design the child, the family and community joins utopian narratives in the planning associated with the social sciences, linking human agency to effect change with spaces of collective belonging given in the names of democracy, the common good and the nation. The scenario of design in contemporary research is taken up in the second section. The final section turns to a different notion of practice as an alternative practical science, that is, a history of the present. The future of the social sciences as argued is one that takes the present and asks about the conditions that historically make possible what is seen, acted on, talked about and felt. The argument, however, is not against planning but to explore the limits of contemporary orthodoxies.

The paper provides an overview of various perspectives as well as analysis and expectations concerning the concept of 'immature sciences' suggested by I. Hacking in the context of the Michel Foucault's archeology of knowledge. In this context archeology of knowledge is a kind of epistemology situated beyond standard approaches to the sciences, epistemology, whose main question is: 'How is it possible and how should we examine immature sciences?' The main Foucauldian presumption of this question is: 'But what if empirical knowledge, at a given time and in a given culture, did possess a well-defined regularity? If errors and (truths), the practice of old beliefs, including not only genuine discoveries, but also most naive notions, obeyed, at a given moment, the laws of a certain code of knowledge?' Human sciences are the primary field for such an investigations, because of its peculiar history and specific conceptualizations. What is special in their history? Do this notion (immature sciences) suggest that human sciences are immature by their nature, or in the same manner as bygone forms natural sciences. How can these issues be approached in the archeology? What is capacity of archeology of knowledge to answer this questions?

W artykule przedstawiono problemy rozwoju „wzajemnie przenikających się” dwóch, stosunkowo młodych, dyscyplin naukowych: nauk o pracy i nauk o zarządzaniu. Nauki o pracy i nauki o zarzadzaniu, odwołują się często do tych samych prekursorów i klasyków, bazują na tych samych tzw. fundamentalnych prawach: Prawo podziału (Adam Smith), Prawo koncentracji (Friderick W. Taylor), Prawo harmonii (Karol Adamiecki). Do prekursorów naukowego badania pracy, organizacji i zarządzania odnieść można – przede wszystkim - A. Smitha, R. Owena, Ch. Babbaga. Nowe podejście do procesów pracy rozpoczęte przez F. Taylora, K. Adamieckiego i ich kontynuatorów, pozwoliło na wyłonienie wielu kierunków myślenia rozpatrujących różne dziedziny ludzkiego działania ze względu na jego sprawność, czyli wielu nauk ergologicznych (z grec. ergon – dzieło, a także działanie). W pracy wskazano na niesprawiedliwie zapomniany, a znaczący dorobek przedstawicieli polskiej naukowej organizacji pracy, z którego wyrastają nauki o pracy i nauki o zarzadzaniu (J. Joteyko, Z. Rytel, St. Bieńkowski i inni).
The article presents the problems of development of two relatively young and interpenetrating scientific disciplines: work science and management science. Work science and management science often refer to the same precursors and classic scientists, and are based on the same, so called fundamental rights: The right of distribution (Adam Smith), The right of concentration (Friderick W. Taylor), The right of harmony (Charles Adamiecki). The pioneers of scientific research on work, organization and management, are primarily A. Smith, R. Owen, Ch. Babbage. A new approach to the work processes initiated by F. Taylor, K. Adamiecki and their followers allowed the emergence of many lines of thought examining different areas of human activity with reference to its efficiency, i.e. many ergologic sciences (from Greek, ergon – work, and action). The article points to the unjustly forgotten but yet significant achievements of the representatives of the Polish work organization science, which gave foundations to work science and management science (J. Joteyko, Z. Rytel, St. Bieńkowski, and others).

The international community is making increased efforts to tackle the global pandemic of the COVID-19 virus, which is destroying society’s highest protected interest - human lives and endangering the population. The economy of each state are also secondarily affected. Some sectors have created and are creating a potential threat to support the spread of the corona virus. Unfortunately, the Transport sector and the Air Transport sub-sector are among such entities. The article presents the first part of a research study aimed at identifying the research problem of applied research in air transport and a description of the research intention to solve the problem.

Does entrepreneurship can be an independent scientific discipline? According to the author, the teaching of entrepreneurship should be treated as a sub-discipline of management science. The article discusses the methodological problems, which on the one hand do not allow to differentiate of entrepreneurship as an independent discipline in economic sciences, on the other – the convergence of the scope of problem and function of both fields. The result of the analysis is the author’s proposal to include entrepreneurship in management science.
Czy przedsiębiorczość może być samodzielną dyscypliną? Zdaniem autora nauka przedsiębiorczości powinna być traktowana jako subdyscyplina nauk o zarządzaniu. W artykule zostały omówione metodologiczne problemy, które z jednej strony nie pozwalają na wyodrębnienie przedsiębiorczości jako samodzielnej dyscypliny nauk ekonomicznych, a z drugiej – zbieżności zakresu problemowego i funkcji obydwu dziedzin. Wynikiem analizy jest autorska propozycja włączenia przedsiębiorczości do nauki o zarządzaniu.

This article is an attempt to show a possible way to find out, what kind of rationality characterizes history. It bases on philosophical assumption that idea of rationality is always directly connected with idea of truth. Th is connection was presented in the article as an argument for treating the notion of historical truth as the right basis for analyze rationality of history. In light of modern theory of history, historical truth can be see from angle of the notion of truth proposed by Hilary Putnam and Willard Van Orman Quine. It means that it can be understand as the internal truth: truth dependent on its context. In accordance with main assumption, this fact allows history to try to think about its own rationality in similar way: to define it as internal (contextual) rationality, which accurately mirrors the individual character of historical cognition. Th e article points out theoretical problems potentially connected with above conception of rationality. Question, whether history has ability to analyze the rationality by its own instruments, was underlined as one of the most important.

Psychology, as the science exploring multi-dimensional functioning of a man, definitely can be classified as one of the health sciences. Despite distinct ontological and epistemological backgrounds of life sciences – biology and medicine – they can co-exist with psychology, because they have a common focus: a human being. It is likely that representatives of health sciences will have the same moral problems, faced with the same subject: a patient. Due to this, the aim of this work is discussing ethical problems in health sciences, on the example of clinical psychology and rehabilitation psychology. Problems, which psychologists face, originate from the ancient times, when the job of the psychologist was unknown. The problems are primarily related to strong interpersonal influence and the risk of ‘power’ abuse. They can be categorized to four groups, including: diagnostic tests, psychological help, therapy and scientific research, including studies involving the use psychological experiments. Identifying the ethical dimension with the competence one, ethical problems occurring in those areas were analyzed in detail. Therefore we provide the reader with an opportunity to become acquainted with the ideal ethical behaviors model, i.e. the Psychology Profession Act, Mental Health Act and Ethical Code of this professional group. We will also show case common behaviors, which nevertheless are contradictory to the desired and expected ones.

The object of social work are both the individuals and social groups (families or more extended communities). Depending on which groups of people require help, social work arouses various requirements which from the point of view of the social workers’ education create the need for specialisation. One can distinguish several specific groups of the clients of social work: children, the old age people (gerontological nursing), ill and disabled individuals and local communities. Special problems and challenges appear when a child is its object. It happens that because in the case of children separating interim help or long-term financial assistance from the pedagogic influence is impossible, and thus from responsibility for charges’ future. Social workers do not bear full responsibility for the state of child’s future, because they share this responsibility with different subjects, it does not mean, however, that they do not bear it at all. One can distinguish two extreme positions among the theoreticians of social work: according to one of them, represented among others by H. Radlińska, social welfare institutions totally take over the responsibility for the child’s future, what is connected with the limitation of freedom, and according to the latter, such a responsibility, in practice, is not possible.

The purpose of the article is discussing the nature of critical analysis in management sciences in the context of system approach to organization, as a method giving closer view enabling to find the truth about examined problems, phenomena and processes. Important meaning for the development of management sciences has a thorough observation of social-economic reality, which should concentrate on recognizing cause-and-effect dependences between diagnosed facts, paying the special attention to clarifying real motives as well as the consequence of making managerial decisions. Taking into considerations these facts, the article presented the aims and fundamental assumptions of the critical analysis as a research method. Simultaneously, the author underlined its virtues, as well as defects. A crucial element of conducted deliberations is author's model which is stressing chosen problem issues associated with functioning organization for needs of critical analysis in management studies. The presented model is contributing to eliminate divergences which appears between a scientific theory and the management practice.

Is it possible to respond to contemporary challenges of Christianity from the meta-perspective of philosophy and cultural studies? We have divided the articles presented here into three groups: challenges faced by religion regarding science, challenges of secularisation, and challenges in the Church itself. The articles from the volume do not address these problems in totally different ways. The issues of consistency and rationality of religion become reinterpreted, for example when compared to results of empirical sciences, but also in a broadly understood public debate. We shall try to show a close relationship between the Christian religion and such phenomena as: science, media, churches, medicine, war, law, etc. Our point of departure is a search for the current function of Christianity, with the Catholic Church in the centre, but the questions transcend the present state of a particular religion.

Within the last quarter of the century social sciences have been witnessing a quiet methodological revolution. The noticed expansion of interpretative approaches and the growing popularity of quality research may be perceived as a form of academic rebellion against the omnipotent scientistic doctrine with its guaranteed monopoly for setting methodological standards. The movement of quality researchers, particularly in its radical and critical version, undermines a thesis that recognised methodological standards reflect universal rules of the cognitive reason. In this approach the methods of science are a collection of conventions negotiated within reserachers’ communities and social and cultural provenance.

Przed niniejszym rozdziałem postawiono cztery cele. Pierwszy cel to ustalenie podstawowych wymiarów tożsamości nauk ekonomicznych. Drugim celem jest zidentyfikowanie przejawów różnorodności i prawidłowości występujących na „rynku” paradygmatów w naukach ekonomicznych. Kolejnym, trzecim celem jest refleksja nad przejawami i możliwymi konsekwencjami interdyscyplinarności odniesionej do nauk ekonomicznych. Czwarty cel to refleksja nad przyszłością nauk ekonomicznych. Podstawową metodę badawczą zastosowaną przy przygotowaniu tego rozdziału była krytyczna analiza literatury przedmiotu.
Contemporary economic sciences – identity, evolution, classifications Four goals have been set before this study. The first goal is to establish the basic dimensions of the identity of economic sciences. The second goal of the study is to identify the manifestations of diversity and regularity on „the market” of paradigms in economic sciences. Another, third goal of this text is the reflection on the manifestations and possible consequences of interdisciplinarity related to economic sciences. The fourth goal of the study is to reflect on the future of economic sciences. The basic research method used in the preparation of this study was a critical analysis of the literature on the subject.

Identity as a theoretical concept in social sciences has evolved from a status of derivative importance into an essential and autonomous notion performing at present an important role that explains some processes of the contemporary world. According to Renata Dopierała, generally identity can be defined as a reflective attitude of an individual to himself, created by the necessity of self-characteristic building a system of ideas, opinions, convictions, etc., that corresponds with the given social context. However, the answer to the question: What is identity?, is not so obvious as some can expect. The relationship between identity, interests, preferences, and loyalty is also not so clear. Shortly speaking, identity can be also perceived as a self-conception rooted in the society, our attitude and relation to others. Its integral parts are two main components: individual and social.

T.S. Kuhn’s concept of paradigm differentiates between mature sciences and pre-paradigm sciences. In the case of the latter, it is possible for various approaches to compete with one another. Polish security sciences are currently occupied with seeking paradigms. On the one hand, this search may lead to a homogenisation of opinions within the discipline, or to opposing views on the other. This search is a consequence of evolving opinions within the field, which has a relatively short history in Poland, and constitutes an attempt at determining its defining features. This paper presents various approaches to the concept of paradigm posited by researchers of broadly-defined security, which, as a consequence, constitute evidence of security’s multi-paradigmaticality. The research problem is to answer the question of whether the approaches presented in this paper actually constitute the basis necessary to formulate a set of coherent scientific foundations of the discipline, as analysed from a paradigmatic point of view.

The main aim of this paper is an analysis of the region in general form and to look at innova- tion and knowledge in the European Union’s economic growth and social security strategy. The research objectives here encompass the presentation of the innovation system and knowledge in promoting entrepreneurship, the theoretical concept of the innovation system and process at the level of the region, the knowledge-based economy, constructed advantage, the constructed advantage provided by the Triple Helix model, Europe 2020 strategy, Innovation Union and Horizon 2020 as the financial instruments implemented by the Innovation Union. An important result of the research is the conclusion that in the innovation process the connections between science (universities), market (industry) and government are very important. There is a positive dependence between innovation activities and the effectiveness of the innovation process. More interaction and cooperation can be observed on the regional than on the state level. The new programmes of scientific and innovation research, Europe 2020 and the Innovation Union, are very important factors in the strategy of the European Union’s economic growth and social security.

The aim of the paper is to identify and assess the role of economic sciences in relation to competitiveness and globalisation, two basic concepts of the market economy. This role is to explain and interpret their essence but also to determine their potential practical usefulness, primarily in the context of economic policy development. The considerations mentioned in the article are, as a rule, of a general and universal nature and do not relate especially to any particular countries or groups of countries. The basic method employed in the study is a critical analysis of the subject literature. The paper consists of an introduction, three sections, and conclusions. Section 1 contains a basic discussion of the subject of economic sciences and describes their four features: cognitive productivity, practical usefulness, dismal nature and beauty. Section 2 presents the contribution of economic sciences to understanding and interpreting the phenomenon of competitiveness. Section 3 focuses on defining and elucidating the idea of globalisation and an examination of its most important aspects. The paper ends with eight conclusions formulated on the basis of this discussion.

The purpose of this article is to bring closer to the reader a cognitive perspective and the subject of security sciences interest in terms of Polish and Ukrainian. Security as a social phenomenon is perceived in a similar way all over the world, however its scientific interpretation depends on the formal structure of science in a given country and the classification of the research subject into a specific discipline. In the Polish terms, the scientific discipline of security sciences is specified, however in other coun tries the scope of security knowledge is classified differently due to different condi tions for the development and classification of science. In the Ukrainian terms, the discipline of security sciences is not specified, and secu rity problems are considered interdisciplinary in several fields of science, specialty groups and numerous scientific specialties. In the process of developing the article, an assumption was made to explain the prob lem: how are the scientific disciplines in Poland and Ukraine that conduct research on security interpreted? As a result of applying the method of researching the content of the subject literature and the continuous comparison of the perception of security from the point of classification of scientific fields in the Polish and Ukrainian terms, the similarities and differences were specified, which constitute the essence of the cognitive scope of security. The article is divided into two parts. The first part contains: “Abstract”, “Introduction”, “Research assumptions”, “Comparison of the determinants of the evolution of science in Poland and in Ukraine”, “Science about security in Polish terms”. The second part contains: “The sciences of security in Ukrainian terms”, “Comparison”, “Conclusion” and “Bibliography”.

Objectives: The aims of the present study were to identify the anthropometric variables in elite roller hockey players in the 21st century and to compare the results with other indoor sports with similar somatotype. Methods: A descriptive study was performed in 41 elite roller hockey male players (mean age 25.63 ± 4.76 years, age range 19-34 years), including anthropometric measures, body composition and somatotype. A bibliographic review about roller hockey anthropometry was performed, including also other similar sports (field hockey and ice hockey). The results of the articles found were compared with the results obtained in our study. Also, a comparison between goalkeepers (n=8) and field players (n=33) results was performed. Results: The anthropometric results in this study showed higher values in height, weight and body mass index in comparison with previous articles about roller hockey anthropometry, showing similarities with the values of ice hockey players. In our sample, goalkeepers showed higher values of weight, body fat percentage and body mass index than field players. Conclusions: We concluded that 21st century elite roller hockey players are taller and heavier than those players studied in previous articles.

The article attempts to address the issue of the need to distinguish sub-disciplines in security sciences. A scientific discipline is a basic and lowest-order category within the classification system of individual fields of science. Security science in Poland has been classified as one of many disciplines in the field of social sciences. The problem was formulated as a question: based on which criteria can sub-disciplines be distinguished in the security sciences? The aim is to identify the basic sub-disciplines in security sciences and to propose a criterion for their distinction. Critical literature analysis and research design were adopted as the primary methods. There is no established criterion for the division into individual sub-disciplines in Poland. The author proposes to distinguish sub-disciplines based on the following criteria: theoretical, practical, types of institutions, and levels of organization of different security sectors. It is based on the assumption that security sciences require a clarification of the substantive scope within sub-disciplines through which the discipline’s identity can be built up, and research can be carried out as part of further scientific work.

Last years of XX century and the beginning of XXI century have been the era of public relations. Although this discipline is almost 100 year old, and its roots are in the ancient times, the dynamic development has happened in recent years. Globalisation, new technology, new form of communication, better educated people and the development of free market economy in the global world are conditions which foster expansion of public relations practice. All of above make public relations a crucial subject which should be placed in the scientific field. One of the questions which have been raised in recent times is a question about a PR paradigm. This is why, the main objective of the presented paper is to present some conclusions around scientific quality of public relations. The main assumption of the paper is the Jacquie L'Etang's thesis about few different approaches to PR both in practice and theory. The paper tries to answer the following research questions: 1. How do social sciences participate in the theory of public relations? 2. How does economics participate in the theory of public relations? 3. Does public relations theory exist? The authors of the paper make conclusions referring to the recent literature in this field considering as the methodological basis the PR family tree prepared by Jacquie L'Etang.

Apart from the "map" itself, the text of the article also includes explanations concerning the detailed issues of the shape of the "map".

Family sciences constitute a question which is not only exceptionally complex as far as the number of disciplines that ought to be taken into consideration in their analysis is concerned, but also one that is unusually complicated – on account of relations and interdependence between the particular constituent disciplines. The network of interrelations between the particular disciplines composing this branch of knowledge, theoretical and paradigmatic references, specific sensibility of the examined sphere of phenomena, the extreme susceptibility to manipulation and suprainterpretations are just some of a number of problems opening new prospects as successive questions are considered. The present article introduces some basic problems of family sciences as an interdisciplinary discipline in the context of the general methodology of sciences and methodology of social sciences. It deals with questions of the semantic concept of „family sciences”, the internal structure of this branch of science, methodological peculiarities occurring within the examined branch and fundamental philosophical and practical questions that have to be tackled by each scholar.

Writing qualitative research texts often involves the acknowledgement of the researcher being imbued in the systems of meaning that he or she is studying. This provides a background for incitement to reflexivity, i.e. how one’s own life history and broader cultural context is etched in epistemological and ontological assumptions about the object. This article studies the reflexive style of writing in Michel Foucault’s archaeology of the human sciences, which constantly problematises its own assumptions about studying discourses. His style is described with the analogy of a Moebius strip, highlighting the way the ‘outside’ history of the human sciencesturns into the ‘inside’ conditions of possibility for analysing discursive formations in the history of educational research.

The training of teachers of Roman Catholic religion in Poland is carried out at universities – at the faculties of theology – as part of uniform five-year master’s degree studies or two-year (four-semester) postgraduate studies. The Church ensures the quality of both subject matter (theological) and catechetical preparation, as well as pedagogical preparation of future religion teachers. Current ministerial standards of pedagogical education in Poland are considered important. The analyses undertaken in this paper highlight the fact that the presence of religion lessons in Polish schools requires the reliable preparation of future religion teachers to perform didactic, educational and caring tasks. It also raises the need to pay more attention to the personal and spiritual development of religion teachers. It is, above all, the Roman Catholic Church that is responsible for the quality of theological and catechetical and pedagogical education of those people to whom it gives a mission to teach religion in Polish schools. It is supported in these activities by external entities (e.g. the Ministry of National Education and Science). The above-mentioned activities ensure that the education of teachers of Roman Catholic religion in Poland is integral and, at the same time, adequate for contemporary educational tasks. In the training of Roman Catholic religion teachers, a balance between theological and catechetical and pedagogical formation can be observed. This is visible both in the content and forms of education, where it is preferred to combine theory with practice. This is achieved by internships of theology students carried out in primary schools and various types of secondary schools. Such an integrated approach to the training of religion teachers seems to be the most professional.

With this paper we try to contribute to the debate on the nature of research intensive universities and the chances to create this type of institution in Poland. Research universities are presented as elite, flagship institutions for educating students mostly at the doctoral level and to produce the bulk of the research output. Examples of world-class research intensive universities from various countries are presented. It is shown that intensified competition among universities exists to prove their performance through global university league tables or ranking exercises and it is discussed whether Poland is at the stage to create at least one such institution playing important role in that competition. We argue that the establishment of a University of the Polish Academy of Sciences could be a solution. This University stands to become a unique research institution in Poland and one of very few establishments of its type in Central and Eastern Europe. The University will conduct scientific research and provide programs of the highest standard, exploiting the research and teaching potential of the PAS institutes as well as the competence and experience of members of the Academy's corporation. It is intended as a higher education institution with a decentralized organizational structure, based on the PAS research institutes. The University of the Polish Academy of Sciences will have a quality-boosting impact on the PAS institutes as well as initiate their consolidation and reorganization in the field of teaching.

A Focus group interview (FGI), the focused group, focus groups or just focus are the definitionsof data collection techniques which, after several decades of development, have become an important part of research plans in social sciences. Placing the focus on communication techniques leads us to combine analyses consisting of interview and observation. It also raises the question whether the focus, which by definitioncombines and directly expresses the strengths and weaknesses of communication techniques and the strengths and weaknesses of observation techniques, allows achieving some kind of methodological synergy. In addition, the essence of measurement in science and – more closely – in social sciences seems to be an important context for the empirical functioning of the focus and for researchers preferring this technique of data collection.

In the article, I discuss the title opposition nature–culture in the perspective of is-sues presented by the interdisciplinarity of science. I attempt to elucidate the definition of interdisciplinarity utilising certain ways in which the notion of science is construed, and indicating three levels of potential integration of interdisciplinary research: on-tological, methodological and theoretical. Apart from that, the article addresses the standpoints of reductionism and anti-reductionism as well as the questions of classify-ing scientific disciplines. The final parts of the text outline the possibility of conduct-ing interdisciplinary studies in the light of the language of action theory, which may become a concept which integrates various domains of scientific knowledge.

Artykuł stanowi argumentację na rzecz metodologicznej odrębności nauk prawnych. Metodologiczna odrębność (swoistość) nauk prawnych została przedstawiona w trzech wymiarach: 1) przedmiotu; 2) metody i 3) celu badań naukowych. Analiza może być wykorzystana zarówno jako argument przeciwko braku tożsamości metodologicznej nauk prawnych, jak i pozytywnie dla całościowego i integracyjnego modelu nauk prawnych. Ze względu na złożoność przedmiotu i celów nauk prawnych należy stosować różne metody badawcze. W dalszych badaniach wskazane byłoby ustalenie ich możliwych systemów w określonym problemie badawczym.
The paper is an attempt to argue for the methodological distinctiveness of legal sciences. The methodological distinctiveness (specificity) of legal sciences has been presented in three dimensions: 1) the subject; 2) methods and 3) purpose of scientific research. The analysis can be used both for the argument against the lack of a methodological identity of the legal sciences and positively for the comprehensive research and the integrative model of the legal sciences. In view of the complexity of the subject and the aims of legal science should be used various research methods. In further research, it would be advisable to establish their possible systems in a specific research problem.

Rationality, intersubjectivity, and objectivity have been conceived as primary epistemological categories from the begining of modern epoch. They characterize knowledge or subjects of knowledge, or even their activity - cognition. Epistemocentrism - in P. Bourdieu view typical to modern thinking - and supporting it epistemological fundamentalism are nothing else but limitation of the meaning of these categories. In the bygone times, epistemocentrism was useful, but now is a simply anachronism in the face of modern roles of knowledge in societies and in the face of growing progress of social sciences. Today, science and its contribution in the social worlds are not the same as once. Therefore, the need arises for revision of epistemocentrism as well as for the fulfillment of the 'epistemological gap' which emerged from collapse of epistemological fundamentalism. I think that there is a room for the new 'philosophical partition of reality' emancipated from Cartesian despotism of ego cogito and recovering intuitional insights in the social life of the ancient thinkers as Aristotle. In the paper, I concentrate on thesis that epistemocentrism is an epistemological obstacle in the social sciences and source of their crises.

Pedagogy is not unique among related social sciences, such as psychology or sociology,whose end (as a science) has already been announced many times, not only by a numberof its representatives, but also by its opponents. Although the phenomena of scientificrevolution and resulting paradigm changes have affected all areas of knowledge, includingsciences, pedagogy is not going to disappear because it represents humanities and socialsciences, and it is understood as the knowledge on education and training of a man.The assumption of a criterion that determines which knowledge is scientific and whichis not (positivist approach) would lead to the conclusion that pedagogy could not failas a science as being in statu nascendi paradigm itself. Thus, how can anything fail if itdoes not exist? Therefore, I deal with the problem that perhaps the belief that pedagogy, not fulfillingall methodological requirements of empirical sciences, is not and will never be the scienceunderstood as such (the thesis supported by scientologically oriented psychologists) waspremature. There is no place for complexes, not only due to the fact that other socialsciences and humanities have similar dilemmas, but also because of profound changesof Polish pedagogy in the past two decades of III RP. Behind those changes there isthe heritage of great thinkers and practitioners and the world-class development of basicresearch, comparative research, socio-educational research, paradigm research, historicalresearch and research in the field of special education.
Pedagogika nie jest wyjątkiem wśród pokrewnych sobie nauk społecznych, jak psychologia czy socjologia, których koniec jako nauki był już zapowiedziany wielokrotnie przez wielu jej przedstawicieli, jak i oponentów. Wprawdzie zjawisko rewolucji naukowych i zmiany w ich wyniku paradygmatów dotknęło wszystkich dziedzin wiedzy, także nauk ścisłych, to jednak pedagogika nie zejdzie tak łatwo ze sceny jako jedna z humanistycznych oraz społecznych, a szeroko i interdyscyplinarnie pojmowana wiedza o wychowaniu i kształceniu człowieka, Gdyby przyjąć za kryterium rozstrzygające o tym, jaka wiedza jest naukowa, a jaka nie, a takie konstruował pozytywizm, to należałoby stwierdzić, że pedagogika nie mogła skończyć się jako nauka, skoro sama jest w tym paradygmacie in statu nascendii. Jak więc może skończyć się coś, co jeszcze jako takie nie zaistniało? Właśnie dlatego podejmuję problem tego, że chyba zbyt szybko przyjęliśmy jako pewnik – za wielokrotnie podtrzymywaną przez scjentystycznie zorientowanych psychologów tezę – że pedagogika nie spełniając wszystkich rygorów metodologicznych nauk empirycznych, nie jest i nigdy nie będzie tak rozumianą nauką. Bez przesady. Nie musimy mieć kompleksów, i to nie tylko dlatego, że podobne dylematy mają inne dyscypliny nauk humanistycznych i społecznych, ale z powodu niezwykle głębokich zmian polskiej pedagogiki w okresie minionego 20-lecia III RP, za którymi kryje się dziedzictwo wielkich myślicieli i praktyków oraz na światowym poziomie rozwój badań podstawowych, komparatystycznych, społeczno-wychowawczych, paradygmatycznych, historycznych i w zakresie pedagogiki specjalnej.

This paper gives an overview of the potential integrative function of religion from the evolutionary standpoint. In order to fulfill those aims, the work first addresses the characterization of the use of an evolutionary paradigm for the study of religion. In this section, the most prominent evolutionary hypotheses of religion are discussed: the sociobiological view, memetic approach and cognitive perspective. Subsequently, the article also introduces several conceptual difficulties of the whole program of Darwinian religious study. In the final part of the paper, a couple of the most important religious mechanisms of social integration are shown.

In the countries of Middle and Eastern Europe the collapse of „real socialism” was followed by the annulment of political and ideological supervision over scientific researches. Since then the political theory has been developing in an unembarrassed way, drawing investigative patterns with the tradition of western political sciences. Form this perspective, the expression „westernization” used with regard to political theory signifies the process of going away from Marxism and historical materialism. The article focuses on two essential trends of this process. The main consequence is the pluralization of theoretical bases of investigations, which signifies not only differentiation, but also the lack of predominant theory. The international program for monitoring the development since 1990, shows that new investigative trends disclose a division between the traditional and current model of politology, which demonstrates the topicality of arguments raised in western academic debatesover the theoretical condition and status of political science discipline.

The presented study aims at increasing positive attitude of students as good citizens through the integration of character education in social studies with CTL approach. This research was classroom action research and the subjects of this research were 38 fifth-grade pupils of Elementary School SD Negeri 07 Panreng Sinjai. The study involved collaborators that were fifth-grade teachers who acted as the implementing action. Data were obtained through a test scale of attitude as the main data and supporting data were collected through observation and self-report. The research showed some findings. First, the integration of character education in teaching social studies is conducted by instilling the values of character education in learning with the social studies content and applying some of the components in the CTL. Second, there is continuous improvement of the integration of character education in social studies with the CTL approach from the first cycle to the third cycle. Based on the results of attitude tests on the citizenship subject in the first cycle, there was no student classified as very positive (0%), 44.73% of students were classified as positive, 39.47% negative, and 15.76% very negative. In the second cycle, there were 23.68% of students classified as very positive, 44.73% positive, 26.31% negative, and 5.26% very negative. In the third cycle, there were 18.42% of students classified as very positive, 78.94% positive, 2.63% negative and 0% very negative. Thus, the integrated character education in social studies can improve the attitude of a good citizen in fifth-grade pupils of SD Negeri 07 Panreng Sinjai.

Subject and purpose of work: The study aims to explore the role of social capital in the new concept of “effective” cluster, by exploiting not only its human and financial assets but also the social networks with the cluster. Materials and methods: The study presents the case-study findings of the five life-sciences clusters which were conducted in 2018-2019. Additionally, the article discusses the role of social capital and the collaborative efforts within the life sciences clusters during the Covid-19 pandemic. Results: All the analyzed cluster environments have their own social dynamics. Considering the scale and scope of social ties, the Cambridge and Medicon Valley clusters conform with the concept of the "functional clusters", while the Bay Area and Seattle clusters can be classified as “effective clusters”. Conclusions: All the cluster ecosystems have evolved from different origins and they follow different evolutionary paths. Yet, clusters with richer social capital achieve higher collaborative synergy, leading to an increase in knowledge spillovers and innovations. Public policies should focus on the active promotion of social networks and market-oriented intermediaries connecting main cluster partners.

Aim/purpose – The main aim of the present paper is to identify the problem of uncertainty and risk in research carried out by the Nobel Prize Laureates in Economic Sciences and its analysis by disciplines/sub-disciplines represented by the awarded researchers. Design/methodology/approach – The paper rests on the literature analysis, mostly analysis of research achievements of the Nobel Prize Laureates in Economic Sciences. Findings – Studies have determined that research on uncertainty and risk is carried out in many disciplines and sub-disciplines of economic sciences. In addition, it has been established that a number of researchers among the Nobel Prize laureates in the field of economic sciences, take into account the issues of uncertainty and risk. The analysis showed that researchers selected from the Nobel Prize laureates have made a significant contribution to raising awareness of the importance of uncertainty and risk in many areas of the functioning of individuals, enterprises and national economies. Research implications/limitations – Research analysis was based on a selected group of scientific research – Laureates of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. However, thus confirmed ground-breaking and momentous nature of the research findings of this group of authors justifies the selective choice of the analysed research material. Originality/value/contribution – The paper includes a selection of research achievements in uncertainty and risk of the Nobel Prize Winners in Economic Sciences previously not presented in scientific papers.
