Opis:
In two field experiments, the effect of some weed control treatments (citric acid at the rate of 10, 15 and 20%, acetic acid at the rate of 20, 30 and 40%, oxadiargyl, oxyflurfen, rice straw mulch, hand hoeing and an unweeded check control treatment) on weed growth and onion productivity in sandy soils at the Agricultural Experimental Station of the National Research Centre, Egypt was studied. The results indicated that all weeded treatments reduced the dry weight of broadleaf, grassy and total weeds as compared with the weedy check. Oxadiargyl, followed by two hand hoeing, rice straw mulch and acetic acid 40% recorded the greatest weed control efficiency. Insignificant differences were noticed between these treatments. Applying rice straw mulch increased bulb length, bulb diameter, bulb weight and onion yield by 67.52, 57.55, 45.74 and 66.22% over the weedy check, respectively. The highest values of N, P and K were obtained from rice straw mulch treatment followed by hand hoeing, oxadiargyl and acetic acid 40% treatments. It may be concluded that farmers can certainly depend on mulching or acetic acid at 40% instead of using chemical herbicides especially in organic farm systems for controlling onion weeds.

Opis:
The adsorption of Diphenolic acid (DPA), 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), and 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) were examined in aqueous solution using activated carbon rice straw. The rice straw was activated by using two reagents, zinc chloride and phosphoric acid and named as RSZ, RSP, respectively. The results showed that both carbons have a relatively high adsorption capacity. Concerning the adsorption kinetic, the second-order model has better fit than the first model to experimental data. The adsorption yield of both carbons increased in the order: DPA < 2,4-D < MCPA. The pore volume diffusion model satisfactorily fitted the experiment on both carbons. Furthermore, solution pH has a high influence on the adsorption capacity for both carbons. The adsorption mechanism of selected pollutants onto carbon samples has been controlled by dispersion interaction π-π electrons and electrostatic interaction, moreover, the contribution of pore volume diffusion is the controlling mechanism of the overall rate of adsorption.

Opis:
The main purpose of the study is to explore the effect of the plant fibers having different volume fraction on the fresh properties of the mix design of SCC such as filling ability, passing ability and segregation resistance as well as its influence on the compressive strength of the hardened SCC. The study started by conducting preliminary test on the aggregates needed in the construction of SCC. The aggregates were mixed together until uniform consistency was attained. Different volume fractions of CN and RS fibers were added on the mix design and molded in a cylindrical molder. The concrete were dried for 48 hours then placed in curing tank. Filling ability were tested by means of slump flow and T500 test. Passing ability were tested using J-ring while segregation resistance were tested using V-funnel and T5min. Hardened SCC with plant fibers were tested for its compressive strength. Based from the collected data, the filling ability were significantly affected by decreasing the slump flow of self-compacting concrete while increasing the time of SCC to spread to a diameter of 500 mm (T500). Furthermore, the passing ability and segregation resistance of SCC increases upon adding various volume fractions of CN and RS fibers. Statistical analysis further proves that there is significant difference between the normal SCC and the SCC with different percentages of CN and RS fibers. In addition, most favorable compressive strength were found when 0.05% CN fiber and 0.10% RS fiber were added to SCC after 7 and 28 curing days.

Opis:
The effect of addition of NaOH on the pyrolysis of rice straw and properties of its product were investigated. The pyrolysis was examined by means of the thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, and the pyrolysis product was characterized by the elemental analysis, GC and GC-MS. The result showed that addition of NaOH can significantly change TG and DTG peak of the pyrolysis of rice straw. As a result of the catalysis, significant difference in the properties of pyrolysis products was also observed. The addition of the catalyst promoted the increase of the hydrogen content of the gaseous product (from 1.6% to 53.37%), as well as that of the H/C and O/C ratios of solid residue. GC-MS analysis indicated that the liquid product was mainly made up of ketones, phenols and furfural, and NaOH addition did not change the main constitute of the liquid product, but changed their relative content.

Opis:
The basic problem with composites filled with fillers of natural origin is the high susceptibility to humidity and processing temperature. The studies on the possibility of use of grinded rice straw as a particulate filler, which characterizes an especially high content of SiO2 (silica), which probably will reduce the moisture absorption of the composite were done. The composites of the filler could be then applied for the technical products working in an environment of high humidity. For future applications the influence of the filler content on the processing and the processing properties of the composites such as melt flow index, degree of filling a spiral mold and shrinkage were analyzed. The static tensile strength and impact strength have been measured. It has been found that the use of these fillers preferably affects the properties of the composite, reduced shrinkage and mold filling is subjected to the filler concentration in the composite and processing conditions (injection pressure, the injection temperature).

Opis:
Cadmium (Cd) is toxic for humans, but its effects on the yield and quality of rice under contaminated irrigation conditions remain uncertain. In this study, paddy soils in the Red River Delta (Vietnam) were selected for experiments with the purpose of understanding the effects of Cd contaminated irrigation water on growth, yields, and grain Cd accumulation. In addition, biochar was produced from rice husk (BRH) and rice straw for preventing Cd infiltration into rice was also studied in this experiment. A field experiment was established with applicated BRH and straw into polluted paddy soil, as a result the Cd content in grains reduced significantly. The Cd contaminated soil was added to the BRH and rice straw (RS) with six ratios, including: (1) RS 2.5%, (2) BRH 2.5%, (3) RS-BRH: 1.25–1.25%, (4) RS 5.0%, (5) BRH 5.0%, (6) RS-BRH: 2.5–2.5%, (w:w). Besides, three content levels 0.01–0.05–0.5 mg/L of Cd in irrigation water were applied throughout crop season. The results showed that the Cd accumulation in rice was in the following order: roots > stems > seeds. With 3 contaminated irrigation levels which were applied, the Cd concentrations of 0.05 mg/L and 0.5 mg/L affected plant height and yield. However, the Cd content in grains under contaminated soil condition can be controlled from 82.47–83.94% by applying a BRH ratio from 2.5–5% (w:w).
